Aya Japanese Cuisine

"The life of sushi chef Juraci Pereira, affectionately known as "Jura", is one that shows a true culinary vocation. Having started out as a valet, he went on to work in countless restaurants before becoming Jun Sakamoto’s right-hand man for 11 years. Today, his talented hands work with the finest ingredients in his own restaurant. If you like the idea of a tasting menu, ask for the Omakasse Especial; alternatively, ask for suggestions from the à la carte. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on the tuna with foie gras or the yellowtail amberjack sushi dishes." - Michelin Inspector

Dis a tasting menu here 7 courses then ordered 3 sushi after. I had one dish of fried corn and I didn't like it and then they replaced it. Thanks! Spoke English which helped. Food fresh. Tasteful. Properly cooked especially certain dishes such as cod and squid. Great atmosphere. Great service.

The Omakase experience at Aya Sushi was unforgettable. The dishes are expertly crafted from fresh local ingredients with a slight French twist that produced so many amazing creations with the most incredible combination of flavours (e.g. squid sushi with a tangerine sauce and fleur de sel). The vibe was very chic and the servers were some of the most refined, attentive and cultured servers we have ever seen. Moisés was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and explained every detail of each course. He and Antonio were very courteous and provided a 5 star service to compliment 5 star dishes. If you are in São Paulo and love Japanese cuisine (or delicious food frankly) it would be criminal to miss out on the experience here. We will be making visits here every time we are in São Paulo.

Had high expectations for this place but unfortunately it failed to impress. Ordered the aya omakase with lobster. All sushi protein tastes like refrigerator. Shouldn’t this kind of places know this before serving? Top sushi bars will store their fish in wooden boxes right before serving. If I’m paying premium I expect premium. Service was OK although we wanted to sit at the bar an were told it was reserved. The bar was not completely occupied from the begging of our dinner till the end. For a 600+ reais pp dinner this definitely fell short.

3.5 lunch not bad but nothing amazing Had dinner there, not a good experience. Fish was not very fresh, ambience was very odd.

This was the best Japanese food we ever had! the sushis are made with so much care and with special flavour that each one was an explosion of flavour in the mouth! the chefs are great and explain each one of the dishes! Get a table in the bar for a more unique experience!

Quality varies depending on the sushi man, but very good in general. It not a traditional Omakase, they use truffle and foie gras in some of the nigiris, but the fishes are well selected and prepared and very limited usage of salmon.

Yelp
I was a bit skeptical about Japanese sushi in Brazil. I get it that there's a lot of Japanese in Brazil, but it takes a lot to ensure freshness in the sushi fish, and much of it has to do with the quality of the staff. Aya was a great place. Not very big, so definitely call for reservations. We had the "chef's choice" in terms of menu. The sushi was very fresh and of high quality. There were many creative and also traditional preparations. They're also reviewed by Michelin so many people talk about that, but I think there's some good food behind the local hype!

Yelp
When you think of Brazil it's not likely for the Japanese food or even sushi. Well this place is different and changes that for me. This place is doing everything right from the service to the food. The service is comparable to any five star Michelin restaurant. The food will leave you speechless. It's true! The fish is clearly high quality. I tried just about everything thanks to my friend Daniel. They have Toro, Foie gras, uní, hotate, tobiko, quail eggs to your hearts desire and yes the classic tempura cooked to perfection. This is not some Safeway sushi spot. This is a place to enjoy a fantastic night out with friends drinking great sake and wine.
