"This small Thai and Malaysian counter-service spot near the border of Long Island City and Astoria opened back in April. They serve chicken rice, nasi lemak, pad thai, and more, and the shop is conveniently located around the corner from a movie theater." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

We’re so excited to have Malay chicken rice so close to our home now. Every bite was mouthwatering and delicious. We had the murtabang, pad Thai, And combo chicken rice with steamed and fried chicken. It was so good, highly recommend A visit here. Will be back soon.

I am a huge lover of indonesian / malay food, which can be difficult to find outside asia, so was so excited to see Ayam coming to astoria. The design is very cool and the selection of dishes is great. Wonderful to see murtabak on there. My only small gripe is that for the price I would expect a little more effort in some of the dishes or bigger portions. The quality of the chicken is great, but the grilled chicken plate is esentially just chicken, rice, and a few cucumbers. Another vegtable or some aromatics would help.

This is a great little casual Thai Malay spot. Nice simple design. We liked the funny chicken themed decor and posters. There are a couple tables for 2 people to sit in and a high top bench area. Otherwise its ideal as a quick takeout spot. We ordered the Murtabak, Pad Kra Pow, and Fried Chicken Rice. The food was very tasty and filling. The Murtabak was especially flavorful and unique. Service was friendly and great, and pricing was very reasonable.

Google
Flavor and execution wise, one of the best nasi lemaks I've personally had. The chicken was fried perfectly and was so tasty with the sambal and coconut rice. I do feel the portion is a little small for what you pay for, as I wasn't really full. Since I can't do 4.5 stars, I will give them the full rating as I do believe people should give them a try and support this new local business. It was really delicious . I want to return to try the other things, but the portion size may keep me away for the time being.

I went there for the first time and really love the Fried Chicken Rice. I would to go back again and try different items. I would really recommend to try without the sauce if you don’t like like ginger sauce SAUC

Google
Such a cool aesthetic and the food is just as good. Nasi Lemak and wonton chips are to die for and I love the drink selection. The employees are so kind and hardworking too, will definitely be stopping by whenever I’m in the area

Google
Friendly staff! A fellow Malaysian myself, always hunting for a good nasi lemak, as authentic as possible to home country taste. I definitely felt closer to home here. Sambal 8/10!! Murtabak pun sedap.

Google
I tried Murtabak and Nasi Lemak and it is the exact taste of Malaysia you'd be looking for. Do try!

Yelp
Nice find - a small easy simple but homey option across from a children's park, the bus stop, on the same block as a laundromat and bike shop. One block from Kaufman Astoria Movie Theater & PC Richard & Sons. Better & healthier option than the chain sandwich cafe, pizzeria & American fare near the theater. I think the space was formerly an empanada place. The chicken broth rice is delish! I got the $16 combo (steamed chicken & grilled chicken). It was enough for 2+ meals. The chicken is dark meat, and everything is Halal. I don't expect the chicken to come deboned & without skin (other Hainan Chicken Rice / Khao Man Gai places keep everything intact). The grilled chicken was tastier with a marinade/sauce on it. The texture did taste a little like it was cooked in a convection oven. The broth that came with it tasted like it was made from bullion powder. The 2 sauces were very tasty & made the meal. There was a sweet chili one and the funky/spicy one - make sure to ask for both. I guess I had a high expectation seeing 3 Malasian-Thai Aunties working there / hanging out on break. The staff was SO friendly. The menu is Malaysian with a few Thai dishes. There was actually a slow steady stream of delivery and pick up orders around 5 PM on a weekday. The owner said that his son (a graphic design student) designed the branding and the menu - it looks great! Very fun, professional, up-to-date. Wouldn't mind coming back to try a noodle dish or drink.

Yelp
Small, causal restaurant serving halal Malaysian and Thai food. The menu is pretty small. The nasi lemak is popular here. It consists of coconut rice, fried chicken, fried anchovies and peanut. Pour on the the sambal. It's tasty and mildly slipcy. The container seems small but there is plenty of food. I wasn't able to finish mine. It was very good. The murtabak (meat filled flatbread) and pad thai was also pretty good.
