I Heart Halal fest returns to Chicago’s Navy Pier with more food | Eater Chicago

"Last year was a learning experience for the organizers of I Heart Halal, an event that debuted in 2018 at Navy Pier and was billed as America’s first halal lifestyle festival: organizers expected 5,000 attendees over three days but about 17,000 showed up, causing vendors to run out of food after long lines. Through feedback, food emerged as the top reason people came (followed by meeting friends and hanging out downtown), so the festival returns April 12–14 with a footprint increased by 50 percent, a bigger food court, performances (including Lupe Fiasco), and Top Chef– and Cake Boss–style competitions using halal ingredients — all intended to capture a spirit of inclusiveness and be ready for much larger crowds." - Ashok Selvam

Kashif Khan, the proprietor, is always pleasant, quick, and dependable. The food is consistent. I'm a regular patron at this food cart. Check his Instagram (@ayat_halal_food), or X (@AyatHalalFood) account for daily updates.

Chicken and lamb combo over rice with chickpeas is delicious! You can tell this food is made with love. Those chickpeas are the best I've ever had! Most food trucks make my tummy a bit unhappy, but not this one! Plus it feels like a good way to spend my money. Supporting local hardworking kind people while getting a delicious meal out of it is a win/win for me!

Simply delicious and tastes so awesome. I drove past by so many times but never gave a try at this food truck. I was surprised by the quantity and quality of the food. Must try chicken over rice, I have posted the picture of the plater as well.

Tasty Halah dishes. Chicken tasted fresh & well seasoned. However, $11 price didn’t include a drink. Saffron rice would have been a welcome addition. There was a nice park near the cart, with shaded benches & tables, to sit & eat.

Outstanding food! He recommended the combo platter with rice, gyro, salad and chickpeas. It was absolutely delish! Think Cava but better! Very clean truck and food handling. Give it try. You will not be disappointed.

Loved this place! The guy was so incredibly nice and really quick. This is the combo rice with potatoes. I was hesitant to try the lamb cus I'm picky about how its cooked but this was delicious and not at all funky tasting!! Definitely give it a try

Phenomenal food and the person running the cart is very polite and kind. Had lamb and rice. Quantity was a lot, worth 2 servings for me!

Yelp
It looks like a one man operation since it's a food cart but guy in there works fast. And he gives you a ton of food. About as much ambiance as you'd expect from a food cart. Kinda out of the way and no real places to sit and eat near it. But the food is good. Highly recommend. It's unclear when this dude decides to open the cart for the day but you can check Twitter to see if he'll be there. Probably one of the few things I'll follow on twitter
