Chicago’s West African Frozen Food Brand Is Shaking Up the Grocery Game | Eater Chicago

"Launched by Hyde Park couple Fred and Perteet Spencer in July 2020, this frozen-and-boxed West African food brand adapts traditional low-and-slow stews into convenient, quick-prep meals (many reheating in under five minutes). Perteet’s Liberian-American family recipes and her background as a brand manager shaped the product approach as they balanced authenticity with manufacturing constraints. The line has expanded into grocery chains, added hot sauces, and partnered with chefs (including Eric Adjepong and Zoe Adjonyoh) to introduce dishes such as chicken yassa, egusi seed soup, jollof rice, aboboi (a vegan bambara-bean stew), and groundnut (peanut) stew. A social-impact arm called the Moonboi Project works with nonprofits like Girl Power Africa and helped rejuvenate 15 acres of farmland in Monrovia to grow ingredients; the brand’s name means “joy” in Yoruba." - Naomi Waxman

Didn't find any rocks, don't support businesses based on any affinity towards a ethnic group or any social ideology. I had the Groundnut Stew and liked it very much. Being a Mexican/ Indian food fan the spice of this particular dish was very satisfying. This is the first time I've tried "African" food, specifically West African, I liked it! I would expect the real thing, fresh cooked would be much better as everything is not out of a box.

Tried the Chicken dish today and it was super flavorful! Im a new Yorker and well travelled, so knowing all the flavors from different cultures has stuck with me and this was truly a well seasoned African dish!! I was amazed first because of it being a frozen dish but it certainly will be a staple in my household now..Yum Yum

I got the chicken yassa. Its packaging is very interesting, with lots of info on ingredients from just looking at the front of the box. Honestly I thought from looking at the box that there would not be much inside but I was fooled. Very easy instructions. Microwave time was spot on. You can smell the west afracan flavors. The rice was delicious, I had never tried this kind of rice before, very flavorful and aromatic. Shredded chicked also had the burst of african flavors and spice. Its that kind of spice that you cannot stop eating. I was very delighted with this option. I recommend this if you like spicy foods and just don't have the time to cook one day. You'll enjoy it very much.

The chicken yassa and waakye beans & rice are all i've tried so far, but I drove back to the store the same day for several more portions. Very glad I can get such amazing flavors without having to drive to my states capitol.

I bought the product from Target. High quality, great tasting frozen meals. High in fiber and low in carbs. I was actually over stuffed for my lunch.
