A Norfolk institution for a reason, Azalea Inn & Time Out Sports Bar delivers a reliably satisfying experience that feels like coming home. It’s the kind of comfortable, no-frills spot that manages to be a great family restaurant and a lively sports bar all at once. The extensive menu is a major plus, offering everything from hearty Greek specialties to what is, without a doubt, one of the best pizzas in the city.
On our last visit, we went for the classic "Azalea Special" pizza, and it was loaded with toppings, boasting a perfectly cooked crust and generous layers of cheese. It’s clear they haven't cut corners over the years. The atmosphere in the dining room side is relaxed and family-friendly—you can see why it's been a local favorite for generations. On the other side, the Time Out Sports Bar is buzzing whenever there's a game on, with plenty of screens and a great energy.
The reason it doesn't quite hit that perfect five-star mark is some minor inconsistency, particularly with service speed on very busy nights. While the staff is always friendly, things can slow down when the place is packed, leading to a longer-than-expected wait for your food. It’s a small wrinkle in an otherwise fantastic neighborhood gem.
Nonetheless, for its comforting food, welcoming vibe, and the sheer reliability of a good meal, Azalea Inn is a cornerstone of Norfolk's dining scene that rarely disappoints. It’s a must-try for anyone looking for authentic local flavor.
