The 16 Best Restaurants in Sardinia | Eater

"Located a short distance from the Alghero airport, Sa Mandra is a working farm owned by a family from the rural Barbagia subregion 75 miles to the southeast. Over the course of more than 30 years, owners Rita Pirisi and her husband, Mario Murrocu, have transformed a dilapidated property into a thriving 100-hectare farm with accommodations. The restaurant, which is open to agriturismo guests and other visitors, serves meals showcasing the produce and meat from Sa Mandra and surrounding farms. The earthy, land-based dishes include handmade maharrones de pungiu — textured gnocchetti with tomato, sausage, and pecorino — and porcetto allo spiedo (also called porceddu), spit-roasted suckling pig." - Katie Parla

We pre-booked dinner here, but I had no idea what a lovely and elegant place it was. We were so impressed that we wanted to return, but knowing they book far in advance we doubted our chances. They said to call the next day to check for a cancellation, and were lucky enough to call just after someone cancelled! Both times, it was an outstanding experience. The food was amazing! Warning: don’t eat all day because they give generous amounts of delicious food and you don’t want to miss a bite. The staff was incredibly friendly and kind, making the entire experience truly memorable. The location is gorgeous and steeped in history, creating a unique atmosphere.

So much delicious food! Strongly recommend this agriturismo. Food is traditional and of high quality. Best porceddu we’ve had in Sardinia! The staff is great and always ask if you want more, but we could barely finish our meal as is. Very generous. The wine is also very good.

What an absolute feast we had here. Stunning location, service and let's be honest - value, €60 per person for the set farm to table menu is outstanding given the amount and quality of the food. The staff were amazingly attentive, the food was absolutely top tier (the best pork I've eaten in my life) and the overall vibe of the location definitely means this place is worthy of it's Michelin Gourmand. The meal was well paced, we dined from 20:15 until 23:00 and never felt rushed. If you're in Alghero, you need to try this place, just be sure to book in advance!

This was hands down the best dining experience we had during our time in Italy. The food was absolutely AMAZING (and there was so much of it, definitely come hungry!). The service was just as wonderful, and the property itself was beautiful, we even had a chance to wander around before dinner and highly recommend saying hello to the horses, who love being petted. This place gave us such a warm and fuzzy feeling inside that I honestly want to come back to Alghero just to eat here again. It’s truly a special place.

Hands down our favorite restaurant in Alghero. From the moment we stepped onto their grounds, we knew we were in for something special. The exhibitions scattered throughout the property had us wandering around like kids in a museum, and then the food... oh my goodness, the food was absolutely incredible! At €60 per person for the tasting menu (bottle of wine and water included), we thought we'd died and gone to foodie heaven. The staff kept asking if we wanted seconds of each dish. Our hearts screamed "SI!" but our poor, overstuffed bellies had to sadly decline. The whole atmosphere felt absolutely magical. They have an adorable resident gattina that has clearly mastered the art of the puppy-dog eyes and knows exactly which tables are the softest touches. She's basically the restaurant's four-legged marketing team.

We were really excited to have dinner at Sa Mandra, as we had read so many glowing reviews beforehand. We visited with our two teenage daughters, who – to our delight – tasted almost everything and enjoyed the meal as much as we did. The setting is absolutely beautiful, and the food, prepared with fresh local ingredients, is truly delicious. That said, a few aspects left us disappointed. The dessert course was underwhelming: we weren’t told that what was served was actually the final dessert, and both the portion size and presentation felt more like a small tasting than a real ending to the dinner. We kept waiting, thinking something else might follow, but it never came, and towards the end the staff seemed to lose interest in our table. To add to the confusion, I only learned from another guest where payment was supposed to be made. The biggest letdown, however, was the payment process. My credit card had already been charged the full amount a few days before the dinner as a pre-authorization. Even though I mentioned this, I was asked to pay again on-site. I was assured that the first charge would be reversed, but two days later the amount was still blocked. After further follow-up, it turned out I had indeed been charged twice. While I eventually received the refund, it only came through after almost two weeks, partly due to slow processing by my bank. Overall, the place itself and the food are outstanding and well worth experiencing, but the payment issues unfortunately left us with mixed feelings.

We discovered this restaurant through the Michelin app and were lucky to get a table with a reservation made a week in advance. We enjoyed several courses, all of which were absolutely delicious. On top of that, the location was truly beautiful, and we were allowed to explore the entire estate, which made the experience even more special. We can only recommend dining here and would happily return anytime.

We had a wonderful stay at Sa Mandra during our honeymoon. The setting is lovely, and the service is excellent - everyone we met was so warm and helpful. Also, the food is absolutely gorgeous and having dinner there was a very special experience. We definitely hope to return again someday!
