Atlanta’s Restaurant Openings June | Eater Atlanta

"Opened as a permanent brick-and-mortar in Brookhaven on June 3 (with another outpost expected in Buckhead and a kiosk at Lenox Square planned for later this summer), the Cuban food truck by Alvaro Carta serves Cuban sandwiches, loaded fries, empanadas, piled-high pan con bistec, coffee, and desserts." - Henna Bakshi

Google
Excellent authentic Cuban food. Recently I had lunch and enjoyed Chicken Empanadas which was outstanding. The atmosphere is fun and chill. I like the fact they use real silverware that not flimsy. I encourage folks to check this out for a good Cuban meal

Google
Lovedddd it! Went for the first time and it was a cute spot. Very clean! The service was GREAT! Mateos was our server and Brian was the bartender. They provided the most amazing service. The food was delicious! Very flavorful and fresh and so were the drinks. Unfortunately l didn’t get photos of the food. I was too busy eating. Already planning to go back to try different menu items.

Google
The restaurant is pretty and the atmosphere very nice but the food was disappointing. I do not see the Cuban authenticity. The milanesa was not a Milanesa. The moro rice lacked flavor. The Ropa Vieja was okay. We ordered a drink and we got it after we were done eating. The milanesa is pictured. I do not think the owners are Cuban because this is not a good reflection of Cuban food.

Google
Definitely worth the Drive! I live about 1 hour and 20 minutes but I went out of my way and it was definitely worth every bite! They give you a limited menu, which is the best part you have staple cuban foods to choose from and they are DELICIOUS! The portions are big! The food is made perfectly. The food has authentic Cuban flavors. If you have had Cuban food before you know the flavor says it all. Their drinks are really tasty, and well made, Hats off to the Bartender ! The staff is really nice, has great customer service, they make sure you are doing well and have everything you need, including the famous colada, cortadito, or even their desserts. Who is going to pass up guayaba con queso?!?! Or una croqueta?? I DIDN'T!

Google
The has beautiful decor and great music. They were playing salsa so I was reminded of my years living in the Caribbean. The food was amazing. I especially loved the empanada guava & cream cheese. The staff were nice. It was a pleasant experience. You can visit with family and friends. The only thing to consider is that the parking is small and limited.

Gilford W.

Google
I was highly disappointed. The atmosphere is amazing. The service was good. But the food... I had the Misitas de puerco, and it didn't come out the best. The pork wasn't seasoned but was instead overcooked and very dry. The beans, salad, and plantains were fine, with the exception of one piece of overcooked dry plantain. This type of food on the menu is traditional in this culture and many have probably had similar dishes with family. But unfortunately, this was not that. I had never heard of Azúcar before this, but from what I ordered, I can't give this one a recommendation.

Google
Visiting from Texas looking for some authentic Cuban food and this place is the best. Love the tree inside the restaurant is a very unique feature the bartenders are friendly and the food was amazing.

Google
Visited with my daughter tonight and received excellent service from waitress and Brian at the bar! I mentioned my daughter is turning 13 tomorrow and the staff surprised her with a cake slice and candle. So thoughtful! Definitely recommend and we will be back for sure. Our Cuban sandwiches were amazing along with the homemade hot sauce! 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
This place was amazing! Super cute for date night, girls night, anything! Service is quick, staff is super friendly. I had a Piccadillo bowl and my husband had a ropa vieja bowl. I also ordered a side of congri, which wasn't necessary but so worth it! I left feeling stuffed and so satisfied. Definitely recommend this place

Yelp
I really enjoyed my visit to Azucar. I ran across them thanks to social media. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were able to seat ourselves. Upon walking in, you're captivated by the interior. They have a live tree in the middle of the restaurant and is filled with nice lights. We decided to order some appetizers and drinks. We went with the beef empanadas and yuca fries. The filling was so delicious and I loved the crunchiness of the pastry. That garlic and cilantro dipping sauce was bomb too. It also came with the yuca fries and those were too good as well. The drinks we ordered were the coconut mojito and the mango margarita. I don't even like mojitos but I tasted it and it was superb! It www a nice creamy coconut flavor and strong. It was made very well and hit the mark. The mango margarita was delicious as well and I loved it. It too was STRONG and all around tasty. For the entrees we order the skinny pollo and the palomilla steak. Both came with black beans, white rice, plantains, and a salad. When I tell you the meats, black beans, and rice or seasoning so well. Everything was nice and buttery, which made it taste so good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love a good fried plantain and the sweetness from them complemented the steak and onions very well. This was a nice comfort meal and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were nice and the service was fast. I will definitely be back because there are some other things on the menu I'd love to try and the food was phenomenal.

Yelp
So glad I finally visited this restaurant. I liked the decoration, all the lights, the beautiful tree right at the middle, it gives a pretty cool vibe. I came for lunch with a friend and we got some mojitos (delicious and so fresh), we also ordered the lunch bowls: generous amount of delicious food! And we finished with some iced coffee. Service was very friendly and, at the end of our lunch we were asked about our experience, I value when the owners/managers/staff ask you about your visit. Overall, great place, great prices, delicious authentic flavors. I'll be coming back for sure.

Yelp
I came here after work one day on a whim, and I was so pleasantly surprised. This restaurant is located next to other little restaurants and shops. Parking is tight, but I lucked out on a space in front of the restaurant. Inside, the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. There were a handful of customers, which is what you'd expect on a weeknight. My server was prompt and friendly. I ordered a watermelon juice, a side salad, and the skinny chicken (I think?). The watermelon juice was SO refreshing. The side salad was delicious and large enough to be an entree if you added some protein. The entree was just what I expected--all the flavors were there and there was a good portion. My bill was around 40 bucks with tip. They also have outside seating. I had a great experience here and would definitely add it to my list of go to spots!

Yelp
Wow We transported to Miami and "The Real Cuban Food". Enjoyed Cuban sandwiches and were Delicious. Fries came with were plenty a yummy. Bread fresh light toasting. Sandwich melted in mouth. Brian our Server/ Bartender knows his stuff. Friendly and helpful. Atmosphere and music playing was so relaxing. We will be back! Mz

Yelp
Food Was Amazing. Excellent Waiters. Great vibes overall. Would definitely recommend! Great Drinks Too! Especially the summer specials!

Yelp
Went on Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty. Our server was really nice although she brought me a cup with ice when I asked without and brought the churrasco with the wrong side. The churrasco with white rice and the tostones (which was the side that was ordered but I didn't get right off the bat when the order was brought) was really good. I thought one cup of rice would not be enough but it was. The bartender was nice and turned up the volume when he noticed my boyfriend was watching the soccer game on the restaurant TV. The one thing is that the table was a tiny bit dirty, not much, but I could see some bits.

Zulema R.

Yelp
We came here for Cuban food which I was missing so much and they didn't disappoint. The server was very attentive and polite. The decor was very cute and I loved the large tree in the center of the dining area. The music was playing not too loud and it reminded me of home. The food was very good although I was a little disappointed that they didn't have more legitimate Cuban entrees, deserts or sodas. There is so much variety I felt they are missing out on but overall was a nice experience
google avatar

Yelp
Your new go to Cuban spot! They have the best sandwiches here. Super cute on the inside and well decorated. Staff was very friendly and service was quick!

Yelp
Visiting our Son in Atlanta and wanted to have Cuban food. So glad we chose this place. The food was delicious and the service was great!
google avatar

Brooke W.

Yelp
The food and the drinks are amazing the meat is so tender and flavorful. The staff is extremely nice and welcoming . I was here by myself so that was nice its so good got an order to go
google avatar

Niki G.

Yelp
I wanted to like this spot. The yucca fries were over cooked, the Cuban sandwich literally had no flavor whatsoever and service needs some work. Only redeeming qualities were the drinks which if I wanted to just drink it would be perfect.
google avatar

Annika T.

Yelp
Convenient parking, quick service, cute interior, great music, and delicious food! We got the ham croquetas which were lovely & I ordered the chicken Milanesa which came with beans, rice, and maduros. It was a generous serving. The mango juice was refreshing on a warm summer evening.
google avatar

Vanessa G.

Yelp
I will definitely be back! The mango juice was so fresh, the salmon and steak were so well seasoned, and the rice and beans were perfect. The interior is so cute and the vibes are chill and the staff gave stuff good service. Just happened to walk by and thought I'd give them a try and so glad a did. The one down side was my steak was a little fatty but again the taste was great.

Yelp
So this spot has an outdoor in an indoor type of environment. A lot of the places in this little small strip mall have a lot of patio seeding so this is actually on brand. And it's covered so if it's raining or whatever the case may be, you can still sit outside and eat. The way staff was super friendly. I couldn't decide what I wanted on my first time going and I ended up trying to change my order right after I made it and they accommodated. I thought that was really awesome. I went near closing time and they didn't make me feel like they were rushing me so that was really cool too So everybody was super friendly. So they don't have a full bar is what you would expect a place to have but they do have plenty of rum. Obviously it's a Cuban spot so rum is probably their deal lol. You'll see the bottles in the background of the bar area. But if you want to go ahead and have a plethora of drink options this may not be for you. But that's okay! Loaded tostones - For an appetizer these are damn good. I got shredded beef on them. It's basically smash and fried and topped with meat and cheese and it was really really good. El Cubano - see I ordered something different initially but then I'm thinking to myself, let me get what they're known for. Let me get the core item and then I could deviate next time I come if it's good. And it was. Came with fries and the fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned. The sandwich itself was also really good. I could have eaten another one lol! It didn't get inundated with condiments or anything like that, and it was very flavorful. Overall this spot was a really good selection, considering I just came on a whim lol. Will I go back, yes.

Yelp
After several visits I just discovered the Frita Cubana(Cubana hamburger). Fantastic! When you're hungry for a burger and want something a little different. Ground chorizo, Angus beef and pork topped with potatoe sticks, lettuce, tomato, onions and salsa rosata on brioche bun! Oh, did I mention the full bar? Great mojitos and the watermelon margarita is just the thing on a hot day!

Yelp
Such a hidden gem! Came in for a nice bite and was treated to a meal full of flavor and some of the nicest staff ever! Sat in their patio, super cute place! Cannot recommend the food enough!!! Literally so delicious!!
google avatar

Matthew D.

Yelp
Cute place, hope they can continue to grow! Went here on a Friday night shortly before they were about to close. The waiter was kind and didn't turn us away. We got a Cuban Sammy and a Ropa Vieja Sammy. Both were fresh and delicious! My favorite part was the plantains. Definitely will be back to explore the food and drink menu.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to this restaurant when it first opened and was blown away by what they did redecorating the interior and the food was first rate! Went back again today with my brother and the food was actually better! They've settled into their groove and have a beautiful little spot with delicious food. The service is first rate, friendly and accommodating. Had to have the Cuban sandwich again to compare to my first trip, and it again was out of this world. Moist, tender and loaded with pork. Absolutely delicious. If you haven't been here yet, give yourself a treat and stop by!
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Very impressive - good/great service from the moment we walked into the restaurant. Atmosphere is also fun with good inside seating and a great deck area. We ordered the Food Truck Fries and the El Cubano. Food was delivered on time and tasted AMAZING. We will definitely be back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed the ambiance at this new Cuban joint in Dunwoody. It felt like it was very authentic Cuban cuisine. I love going to Calle Ocho in Miami for Cuban food, so this was pretty close to that. I got the "La Playa": grilled salmon with rice and beans and plantains. It was delicious and clean. I just wished they would add beef and chicken empanadas to the menu. Oh and their cafe con leche was delicious too (just would've liked it in a porcelain cafe cup vs paper cup for dine-in).

Taylor R.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was lacking. Overall ambiance could be improved. Note: there is a TV at the bar but it was sitting idle with the typical "sleep mode" screen. You can tell the local community wants this to be a great spot!

Mike ..

Yelp
This is mexiban food. Basically Mexican claiming to be Cuban. Overall terrible. Little flavor just missing a taco to fill.
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
So the place is dimly lit with the salsa music at the perfect volume. The bartender/host/waiter Sal, was cool from the moment we arrived and served quickly and efficiently. The food is very tasty and well portioned. We had pan con bistec, croquetas and maduros. Great restaurant so much better than 90% of the wannabe cuban spots around Atlanta. Definitely recommend

Susan L.

Yelp
Music is too loud! Please turn down the volume. So noisy it's hard to hear. Won't be back.
google avatar

Pat L.

Yelp
I sat at the bar and my server was on her personal phone the whole time. I felt like I was interrupting her personal time. The food was strange. A common Cuban plate served in separate bowls! What? Beans in one bowl, pulled pork in another and a corn salsa in another, rice on the actual plate. The menu says pickled onions, but I got none on my plate. Not Cuban. Probably won't be back.
google avatar

Madame G.

Yelp
Typical Cuban food but the sandwich was a little bland. The seasoned fries made up for that. Drinks are priced at a premium. Nice place to meet for coffee.
google avatar

DeShawn W.

Yelp
It's a sad day when you have to wait thirty minutes for croquettes. On top of that you watch other folks at the bar, who arrived well after you did, get served more complex dishes before you, get their food before you. The staff's excuse for this mistake is that they were crowded. One would think that after over a year of being open they would have worked the kinks out. However, that is not the case here. I had big hopes for this place. Don't fall for the hype though, steer clear.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere, and even better service. We came for a late lunch early dinner. The restaurant is perfectly set up for any type of dining experience you wish. You can eat inside, outside, alone, with your family, or a larger group. The inside is not the biggest of places, but there is plenty of room outside. There is a full bar located inside in which you can sit and order as well. We got the Ham Croquetas as an appetizer. I ordered the Palomilla steak, which comes with white rice, black beans, 2 smaller sweet plantains, and a small salad. We also ordered El Cubano and a kids Quesadilla. Both of those came with a side of fries, which you can substitute for another side for $1.50. To start, the Ham Croquetas were some of the best I have ever had. They were stuffed with a generous amount and had a perfect crunch on the outside. Fried to perfection! The Palomilla was excellent. It is usually my go-to, but it was also recommended by the waiter. There are two steaks topped with onions, which are charred and seasoned. I highly recommend. The rice and beans were delicious and the sweet plantains were a perfect dessert for me. I tried the other items and highly enjoyed them. El Cubano is a perfect combination of flavors. The Quesadilla is a perfect size for the kids. The portion size is enough to take some home. They give you a great sized portion, especially for the prices you pay. I will definitely be coming back to this location and I am glad to have tried it. To make the experience better, the waiter that we had was very friendly and helpful. I will be dreaming about the Croquetas until I return!
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
The food was delicious and I'm from South Florida, I know good Cuban food. The inside was beautiful and the service was very quick. I'm in a wheelchair and had no problems.

Raymond J.

Yelp
I ordered a drink( vodka & cranberry). It came back a pink watered down drink. I ordered a shot on top and it still wasn't tasting like a drink. This place wasn't nothing like the instagram video. I will never go back!. The Cuban sandwich was very dry . I'm Cuban and it was very disappointing......
google avatar

Derek S.

Yelp
Great vibes. Fantastic steak & chimichurri. Mojito was so fresh and strong. The owner was constantly checking and making sure things were running smooth. Place was packed and it took a little while, but that's to be expected.
google avatar

Sade J.

Yelp
Decided to check out this restaurant on a rainy Saturday for lunch. It more than exceeded my expectations. The inside is cute and quaint with cozy decor. It was the perfect spot for a good and quick little lunch. Very casual. Everything we tried was delicious and flavorful. We tried the toastones and media noche. I forgot to take a picture of the guava filled empanada because I was too excited to try it! I really enjoyed this restaurant & will definitely be back again!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
It was just okay. Nothing different than other restaurants in Atlanta. Other Cuban restaurants are a dime a dozen. Matter of fact I like other Cuban Restaurants I like better.
google avatar

Audrey B.

Yelp
Stopped by on the way home from work. Ordered the Croquettas - and they were delicious! I also had the Frita Cubana with French Fries. The burger was perfectly seasoned and juicy & the fries were amazing. I ordered it to go, the service and atmosphere seemed very good, but I didn't eat in the restaurant.

Bryn A.

Yelp
A few friends and I went here for lunch and it was great! The owner was there and super friendly and accommodating! Talked to him a bit and he told us they were struggling with waitstaff so hopefully he can find good folks because the food was delicious and true Cuban food! Super cool with the tree inside and can't wait to enjoy the patio when it's warmer! The lunch bowl specials were great and everyone loved their food! Highly recommend and will definitely go back!
google avatar

Gretchen H.

Yelp
Had a Cuban sandwich that was wonderful. Service was great. We sat at the bar. The ambience was so nice inside. Will go back soon
google avatar

Lisa E.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches!! Had the El Cubano and Ropa Vieja. Warm, crusty bread with perfectly seasoned meats Great churros too! We will be back!
google avatar

Melissa W.

Yelp
Food was good, service was a little slow. The mojitos are TOTALLY worth the wait. Our server was sweet and I would definitely return. We got Cuban sandwiches and our little one loved the fries.
google avatar

Theresa S.

Yelp
Loved visiting! It's a charming space. The service was very personal. The food - Cuban sandwich and ropa vieja - so yum! While crinkle fries were great - would love some other side options for the sandwiches. But no complaints! Loved everything - the bread was legit and the ropa vieja comes with a little side salad

Robin M.

Yelp
This was my first visit, and maybe I ordered the wrong meal. It was a chicken burrito, with fries. I wouldn't ordered it again. It came with a side of fries, which were tastier than the burrito. I might give it another try, however, it won't be for that sandwich. Service was ok. The ambiance was nice.

Apple M.

Yelp
It was a delicious casual cuban restaurant! We got ham croquettes, palomilla steak & the steak sandwich and everything was very tasty. Service was good & food came out quick.

Tristan T.

Yelp
We were so excited to try this place. Unfortunately we left very disappointed. Croquetta appetizer was 4 store bought, premade frozen croquettes and not even freshly made. I believe it's the Catalina brand. Skinny chicken was completely overcooked and dry with no flavor. Palomilla steak had no flavor and meet was very chewy. Both meals came with rice and beans, not very good to be honest. I ordered the pork sandwich, who can mess up Cuban pork?! Well they found a way. Extremely salty and lacking flavors. Told waitress who said she will give feedback to the kitchen but offered no solution, no remaking the plates, no discount nothing. Extremely overpriced at $80 waitress was nowhere to be found several times, no customer service, not friendly but she is polite. She could have made our experience so much better if she wanted to.

Ward H.

Yelp
Had the Cuban sandwich and it was perfect. Skipped through fries and had fantastic black beans - perfectly seasoned! Had a cafe con leche. Great spot, will be back!
google avatar

Salvador A.

Yelp
Great food. Good value. Nice decor. Friendly service. Like their music selection. They really improved the decor from prior restaurant.

E. A. V.

Yelp
Azucar is phenomenal! The food is delicious and the ambiance is so relaxing. I highly recommend their salmon salad. I've tried almost everything on the menu and while it's all good, that was my favorite. The coffee is fresh and delicious. I love the outdoor seating and feeling like I'm sitting outdoors when I'm inside at the base of the live magnolia tree that grows in the center of the restaurant. It's a lovely tropical feeling! A mini-vacation to Cuba in Atlanta!
google avatar

Sameria K.

Yelp
staff was amazing but they have rats. the guy didn't see it at first but i thought it was a halloween decoration

Yvette P.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible! We went in tonight for a birthday party and were met with ONE RUDE waiter. He never acknowledged us, we were there for 15 minutes while he waited on other tables. Someone in our party was LUCKY to have ordered a drink, and as we got up to leave (after never getting service) we went to pay for the drink and the waiter had the audacity to be upset, he was dismissive and ushered us out. I wish I could've written the review without giving this place not even one star. Horrible experience.

Reid T.

Yelp
if you love Cuban food, this is the place. The food and service are fantastic! The service was top notch. I really loved the Cuban sandwich!
