The 38 Essential Berlin Restaurants

"Famous for their fatteh and musabbaha (a well-spiced hummus variant), the Palestinian owners of Azzam, led by chef Hussam Azzam, draw a melting pot of diners from multicultural Neuköllnn. As is the norm in many of Berlin’s Levantine eateries, many menu items are available both in sandwich form or as hearty platters (there’s no wrong choice here). The interior is pretty bare bones, so grab takeout and head to the nearby canal at Weichselplatz." - Tim Forster

One of the best dinner meals I had so far. Generous portions on the plates meals. The employees were very friendly, one of them spoke English and helped me make my order. Very affordable place and great quality of food. Cash only. Highly recommended.

Google
This is my favorite place to eat in all of Berlin. The food is delicious, abundant, and cheap. It’s definitely a place for the locals — I don’t think I’ve seen a single tourist here. It can be cutthroat during a rush, but that’s how you know the food is good. I always leave feeling full (and sleepy). It’s cash only, so don’t get caught lacking.

Google
Just the place to go, and better with friends or family to share. They increased the prices but slightly, is still very fair for the quality and mostly quantity. Their babaganoush is a must to try, trust me!!

Google
We really loved Fetah and Shish Tawuk with its accompaniments. Everything was really tasty in our view. Also the portion sizes are really big. Portion sizes were really big. One portion of any item was enough for two of us.

Google
Great restaurant with authentic food from the Middle East. Portions are huge. And the taste is great. Food is delivered fast and prices are cheap.

Google
Tasty food, reasonably priced and potion and quantity is also more than enough. Also a lot of vegetarian selections available.

Google
Azam is a great spot for a quick and affordable meal. Their food is consistently good, and the prices are very reasonable. I've tried several of their dishes, and I've never been disappointed. The service is also friendly. If you're looking for a good value for your money, Azam is definitely worth checking out

Delicious food and top-notch quality! The staff were polite, well-mannered, and made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I came here three times in one week - that should be a tell all. I don't order meat so I can't speak of that except that the chicken looked fairly greasy. Meanwhile, the vegetables!!! Delicious roasted eggplant and bell pepper, smooth homemade hummus and pickled veggies plus a whole bag of pita bread (a waste for most, not a fan of that). Very delicious halloumi too.

Yelp
This is the neighborhood spot. Day and night, it's busy for a reason. Food is delicious and affordable. Might be hard to find a seat but not impossible.

Yelp
It is a whole " vibe" to be there. There is NO reservations available. But that kinda makes it cool. You sit were there is a place. Sometimes with strangers at a table. But now I will talk about the food. I was told by loads of YouTube food bloggs to go here. So as a sheep without my own opinion I did just that . And boy were they right. The food is really good. Very well prices, and you get lots of it. You get bread and some herbs as a free plate. I do not know if that is with all,.. but I did see a lot of people with that bag of flat bread. The food really tasted SO good, a real flavour explosion. The only negative was that the falafel balls were not well done. They seemed a bit soft and to greasy. But even they did not taste horrible. But I know they could be better. If you want to be doused into a real " Arab experience" you HAVE to eat here. We really loved it We will come again and again. The guy who was sitting next to us had this amazing Yoghurt/hummes dish that I will get next time. He was so sweet to let me try a bit. I have to get this the next time. Do not expect a fine dining restaurant. Expect the most amazing food in a busy cool souk. Go there and let your mouth be amazed.

Yelp
Azzam is a popular spot for mainly Lebanese food, serving all the popular items (Halloumi, Falafel, Shawarma, you name it). Ordering is simple - you walk up to the counter, order your plate, pay, and wait till it's prepared. We've tried the Halloumi-Falafel plate which came with 6 (!) falafel balls, a good amount of hummus, pickled vegetables, and bread+yogurt dip upfront. For 5 Euro - that's something you can't beat. The place was packed indoors/outdoors around lunch time, make sure to get here early.

Yelp
We loved this spot so much when we were staying in the area. Excellent plates, wraps, and a sense of community. Almost always really busy, but highly recommend.

Yelp
GO HERE IF YOU'RE HUNGRY. So much food when you order one plate, and everything comes with a bag full of the most delicious pita bread and a plate of dipping sauces. Only downside is seating (limited or crowded), but that's because this place is a big hit. We really enjoyed the food!

Yelp
A bit stressful ordering (felt very rushed) but best 9.50£ spent while in Berlin. My friend and I ordered a shawarma platter (comes work friends, veggies, and humma, hummus, and a bag of kuboos/pita bread. Super large portions with lots of flavor. We were so excited and hungry that we forgot to splash on lemon juice which was provided at each table. We are positive it would have made the already yummy food more delicious! We could not finish all of our food in one sitting and ended up having left overs for dinner.

Yelp
Got a falafel-halloumi sandwich for freaking €3. And it was boooomb some of the best falafels i've ever had! The place was packed when we got in but we managed to find a table and enjoy our food. Seriously, if you're down for some delicious food, definitely stop by! Edit: it was so good we had to come by on our last day in berlin too!

Yelp
This is a must when in Berlin. My friends were all raving about this place. I finally went with my friend and was so overwhelmed by how good it was. For €6.50 you can get a veggie plate which has 2 falafel, 2 halloumi, 2 grape leaves, eggplant, cauliflower, peppers and hummus. Plus the order comes with a plate of sauce and a bag of pita. It is so much food! We also got a chicken plate and split both dishes. It was plenty of food and I got to try so many things. My friends ordered a four person platter for six of them. It was way too much food! They were all in a food coma. And it was only four euros each. The sandwiches are even cheaper. This place is really fast and always open. Go here! THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO.

Yelp
This place is incredible. They give you an insane amount of food. It's unfortunately been a while since I went and I forgot to review it, but this was one of my favorite joints in all of my 10 days in Europe. The clientele was 100% Lebanese. No german spoken in here. The Chicken Schawarma was the best I've ever had. The Baba Ganoush was 3/5 but still pretty good. They portions are so generous for the price. I would eat here a disturbingly large amount were I to live in the country.

Yelp
If you come here, plan on arriving very hungry. The portion sizes are so enormous it should be illegal. For a measly 5-6 euros, you can get a HUGE teller filled with either falafel, shawarma, halloumi, or more. Plates usually come with hummus and pickled vegetables. Tellers also come with a basket of pita with tahini, yoghurt, and chili sauce! I came here for dinner without having eaten yet that day and I could only finish half of the food. Most of it tasted really good! However, the shawarma was a bit too greasy. I don't think the oil used here is super great quality but can't complain too much given the value. My friend had the falafel and halloumi and enjoyed it very much, so I'd probably try that next time.

Yelp
Believe the hype. The hummus here is crazy good. It's also cheap, at €3.50 a serving, and will leave you feeling full and happy. The serving size is huge, fresh, creamy, and delicious, and comes with bread and a side plate with onion, olives, pepper, tomatoes, and more. The presentation is great, the service is quick, and the people are friendly. They also have tea available for free. I haven't tried anything else on the menu so I can't speak to how good it is or isn't, but hummus is all that matters to me. Try it out. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Brought to this jewel by a good friend. Amazing experience, tasty af ! Took a little while, but the place was packed. Free tea and package of bread!

Yelp
Dear Mr. Azzam! I know, there is no chance, you will see this review, but who knows? You have a great place with tasty and cheap food for all nationalities, but, please, ask your co-workers respect white women. It was a really shitty and strange to stay about 10 min near the counter with another white girls and waiting for accepting an order, while ALL your co-workers were free and completely ready to accept orders from another Arabic guys (and they did it!). Hey! It's Berlin, we are not in Arabic country (I'm sorry, but it's true). Nobody wants to stay for 15 min and feel a disrespect! You must respect women's rights and appreciate your clients. The good hummus isn't enough for being the best. Please, explain this simple rule to your staff.
google avatar

Ben L.

Yelp
Incredible hummus, huge portions, low prices, friendly staff, what's not to like? In an area full to the brim of middle Eastern & Arabic cuisine you could do far worse than make this your first port of call. I'm sure pretty much everything on the menu would be delicious. To those who complain about the rude staff, thankfully this wasn't my experience at all. If you're accustomed to Berlin, you know that service in Imbiss style restaurants can be delivered a little bluntly; don't let that dissuade you. Nobody is expecting the service you get in a high end restaurant. Take it with a pinch of salt and get stuck into some chick peas.
google avatar

Daniel A.

Yelp
A crave for a good hummus plate itches those middle eastern mouths every now and then, and I've felt that again not long ago, rumors and tales have brought me here and I must say - I am not disappointed! Good prices, good quality, fast and tasty! I will come back again.

Yelp
This place is just perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch with a group of friends. We order a few plates and then share verything. The top quality plus the amount of food you can get here is outstanding. And it gets even better: it's super cheap. Also to every plate you get a free sala, sauce, bread and limitless tea. So just write your friends asap and go to Neukölln for brunch next Sunday!
google avatar

Susan F.

Yelp
Got 2 plates for €12 to share between 3 hungry fools and we left happy and full. Tea is free. Our plate came with: a pack of flat breads and dump it into hummis, garlicky sauce, tahnini based sauce. Crunchy pickled turnip and chillies. A load of really good Falafel. A few rogue fried potatoes. Slices of mystery delicious meat.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE the food. Service could be better. Be prepared for long queues. Need to work on the ambience though. But food is LOVE
google avatar

Yelp
They used to make food similar to that of my country of birth. For years they were the best out there. Recently the quality has dropped, which is unfortunate. I really like them. I guess it has to do with their popularity. They are still ok but nothing compared to what it used to be. I'm making sure to tell them every time I go, though now I moved to Akroum. The worst is their Tarator (Tahini sauce), they add so much yogurt to it that it no longer tastes like Tahini. #Slap And avoid the "fried veggies" if you don't want a soggy potato drenched with crappy oil. Their chilli sauce is a disgrace (worst of the worse canned slime)
google avatar

Josefa Z.

Yelp
Cheap, delicious, good portions. Ask for the teller if u want to share food in groups. The only thing is that they dont sell alcohol :(
google avatar

Amir M.

Yelp
Don't be fooled. This place is all quantity over quality and now gets most of its business from hipsters who would eat raw sewage if it had the color and texture of hummus or falafel. Go elsewhere on Sonnenallee or Karl Marx Straße.
google avatar

Mareike L.

Yelp
The falafel is really tasty and my girlfriend even says they taste like they do in her homeland Jordan. But the shawarma and all the other things we ordered weren't amazeballs.. Also I think they really gotta work on their service. We tried to order like 10times and he always started interrupting us and talking to someone else. Kinda rude, eh?!

Maria L.

Yelp
I am not exaggerating when I say that this is literally the dirtiest place I have ever eaten in and quite possibly the biggest let-down I have experienced so far in terms of Yelp reviews. I ordered the kefta meal while my friend got a plate with kebab and hummus; here's the thing though - the hummus on my plate was pretty gross (it had clearly been sitting out for a VERY long time) while hers was pretty tasty and definitely more fresh. When you go to order, you may notice that there are some plates (at the glass counter) that are prepped and already have a bit of salad and hummus on them; depending on the meal that you end up ordering, they may just pull one of those plates out and then add the meat you've ordered to it (which was the case for me). The veggies on my plate were far from being fresh and the kefta was very low quality, however, the worst part about my experience was that I found plastic in my food (shown in picture). The prices here are very cheap; I paid 6 euros for my meal while my friend paid 5 euros. However, neither of us ended up eating even half of our meal due to the cleanliness factor and taste (or lackthereof). Do yourself a favor and just go elsewhere. There are so many middle eastern options in Berlin so if it's good hummus that you're looking for, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it in this wonderful & multicultural city.
google avatar

Mohammed G.

Yelp
Well, maybe I was too harsh in my previous review, but in anyway don't go there for grills or Shawarma, rather go for more 'Arabic breakfast' dishes. Ful, Falafel, Fattah, and Makanik are phenomenal.
google avatar

Jia O.

Yelp
I am a addicted to this place. I started off with chicken shawarma wrap (2,50 euro) which is incredible with a pickle, garlic mayo, and thin pita (toasted). The hummus is also authentic (like in the Middle East) with soft chickpeas in the center. Self-serve some tea, and you have an excellent meal for a few euros!
google avatar

Claire B.

Yelp
You get tons of really delicious food at very affordable prices, and the staff is friendly and fast.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
Best shawarma I have had. I was too busy eating to take any picture. The place was packed when we visited last Sunday. Everyone else in the restaurant had the the turkish pizza, and a piping hot bowl of hummus as dip. I really need to go back to try that combination. The shawarma sandwich I had was fantastic though, no regret. Great food, great price, and free tea. I definitely need to come back.

Yelp
Recently reopened following refurbishment, Azzam now a pleasant place to eat as well making great food. However, the last time I went there, the hummus was not quite up to the usual standard still better than any other hummus I've had in Berlin, but a slight dip in form. Hopefully this was just a one-off, and not a sign that they have changed the recipe. Another minor quibble: they no longer serve raw onions as part of the side salad. Nonetheless, this is the best Middle-Eastern place in town. Highly recommended.
google avatar

N T.

Yelp
The hummus was very disappointing. I was hoping after hearing it's good - It is just cheap but really bad quality. Bad shawarma, bad salat, the place looks quite dirty. No. Thanks.
google avatar

Flavor G.

Yelp
don't let the looks fool you, this is an outstanding and incredibly affordable authentic Palestenian kitchen. azzam is the only place i know of in berlin which serves Masabacha and Fetteh. they also serve foul/ful (fava beans). their hummus is real (meaning it contains tahini unlike most turkish places). if you think you know all there is to know about middle-eastern food, you need to go to this place.

Taz M.

Yelp
This is pretty much a let down, we've been in Berlin Germany these past few days and have been enjoying all the great Arabic food they have to offer but unfortunately I can't say the same for this place, the price is right where a full meal for two with drinks only costs 13$ but the taste isn't there, it's bland and oily. Save yourself the hassle and explore another restaurant
google avatar

Qype User (Amselr…)

Yelp
A bit on the dingy and imbiss-y side but nonetheless one of the best Lebanese places in the city the 2 euro falafel sandwich is gigantic and tasty and the hummus is also delicious.
google avatar

Qype User (aqru…)

Yelp
Good Food, best hummus in town
google avatar

Sander B.

Yelp
For the food and price i should give this a 5-star rating. As previous reviews have indeed indicated, it's very good meals for an absolutely bargain price. However, I'm deducting two stars as they have never heard of any customer relations or service. Customers are literally snarled at, and a simple "hello" is not even possible for the owners. There are many hummus places in Berlin these days, and while invariably more expensive than Azzam, I'd lovely pay more if that means I get treated as a human being.

Vikarm B.

Yelp
One of the best middle eastern food in Berlin. Must try , price is reasonable and quantity is good

Qype User (farley…)

Yelp
Friendly, tasty & reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend!
