Flying With Food Isn’t Always Legal, but That Doesn’t Stop Travelers - Eater

"After retrieving a mawa cake from the 100-year-old Mumbai institution B. Merwan, she reverse-engineered her own version, which became a smash hit among her American customers." - Ashwin Rodrigues

First I went at B. Merwan & Co. after Heritage Walk this year. I was amazed with the old charm and ambience of this place. It is reflected in the wooden chairs, mirrors & paintings over there. Their Mawa & Walnut Cakes were delicious ! No waiting (Sunday morning). For sometime definitely, this place will take you to the bygone era.

Went there for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and asked - politely - to the old man at the counter on what are the popular cake items. He replies, aggresively, that the menu is in front of you, stop asking me pointless questions and goes on a rant. The response to such an innocuous question was kind of wild. The rude old man at the counter has a lot of ego and pride that this is a "100 year old place". Uncle - that doesn't substitute warm and hospitable Bharatiya service. Be better. Food was okay. You don't go here for the food but old school charm. Personally - I will not be visiting again.

B. Merwan is truly a gem — one of the best Irani cafés in Mumbai! Their cakes are always fresh and piping hot, especially the iconic mawa cake — simply unbeatable. Other must-tries include bun maska, brun maska, omelette pav, and cheese omelette pav. The only small feedback: the cheese used in the omelette comes in small pieces instead of being shredded — a minor thing, but worth noting. As usual, it’s a cash-only place, though some locations now accept UPI. That said, it’s widely known that traditional Irani cafés usually prefer cash. Overall, the food quality is top-notch, and the old-school charm makes it a must-visit in Mumbai!

B Merwan An old Parsi cafe riding high on the fame of its mawa cake - which is a small egg sized normal cake. The shop opens at 7 and the restaurant opens at 7:30. The owner manager and counter guy are all sullen and the sullen/ busy theme flows top down. Be prepared to he snapped at, and try and keep calm. The operation is built on a frugal and efficient philosophy where nothing extra is offered or provided even if requested - such as a bag or an empty paper plate. Most popular orders, whether dine in or take away, are kept ready and served instantaneously. I ordered a takeaway 6 pack mawa cake and a dine in bun maska and tea. Average serving time is 1-2 minutes. Both bun maska and tea were very good though a warmed bun would have been nicer. The interiors are basic and minimum and mostly original; and one gets that nostalgic old world feeling. There is no toilet in the premises, a wise decision given the location next to CST. The neighbourhood is busy and the location is a back lane. The metro aqua line is 3 min walk. I came here due to the mawa cake’s claim of fame. Will try them later and decide if it was worth it.

An amazing place to go for B. Merwan lovers. No change at all. Bun maska, kadak pav maska and omelette, veg puff ( melt in the mouth), custard, mava cake...ufffff!

Good for a little refreshment during a busy day. The Maska pav is a treat, however Mawa cake has lost its charm.

Spoiled its legacy in post covid. The prepaid coupon way of ordering is so not helpful at least for us customers. Taste wise they've lost the charm. Nothing feels fresh and the experience of having a meal in those retro wooden chairs is absolutely trash.

When i reached there at evening, Mava cake was not there. Bunk muska was superb Akori pav was okay. Self service restaurant and cash only. Owner is a friendly person.
