"Two years ago, Ba-Bite, the fast-casual restaurant I had opened three years earlier in Oakland with my then-husband, was going strong, but a conflict with our landlord forced us to shut both the restaurant and the catering business we had operated since 2005." - Alix Wall

Amazing selection of Middle Eastern food. I went for the Falafel Hummus Plate with white pita bread. My lunch date went for the Chicken Shishlik and spiced carrot salad. We both had mint tea which is lite and fragrant. If you're in the neighborhood or across the bay, come visit this great restaurant in Piedmont.

Cheerful spot with great Middle Eastern fare (5/5 green stars) Ba-Bite has a bright, colorful interior, plenty of seating, and a great menu of Middle Eastern staples and some interesting variations. We had the Qudsiah Hummus Plate ($9.50) – a very large helping of hummus topped with split fava bean pureé, which comes with a basket of pita and bowl of olives and pickles. The bread was really fresh and soft and the hummus was delicious, topped with pine nuts as well as fava bean pureé, paprika (I think), and olive oil. We also had the fried cauliflower ($4) over saffron rice ($7) which was also very good – the addition of seared tomatoes and green onions added some good flavor and color. Overall, a very good option for a healthy/casual mid-afternoon meal on Piedmont since it’s open all day. I’m giving them 5/5 “green stars” for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: • Middle Eastern food makes very good use of sustainable ingredients. Two of the main ingredients, chickpeas and olives, have low impact on the land and require few agricultural inputs. • For example, chickpeas fix their own nitrogen and therefore require little or no fertilizer, thus reducing the carbon footprint, minimizing nitrogen pollution, and enriching the soil. They also require less water than many other protein sources, if grown sustainably. • Ba-Bite sources organic (and local) chickpeas as well as other ingredients. • The menu is mostly plant-based. • Salmon and prawns are listed on the menu as sustainable. • Water purifier available, helping to avoid bottled water (for people who won’t drink tap water). • Take-out boxes are made from simple cardboard. Didn’t see any wasteful use of plastic in restaurant. • Ba-Bite is part of the sanctuary restaurant movement: while “Sanctuary Restaurant” is not a legal designation, its slogan, “a place at the table for everyone” signifies a growing movement for inclusion, diversity and dignity. • Room for Improvement: Would like to see a bit more info on their ingredient sourcing. Fresh tasty Middle Eastern food with a nice laid back vibe. Wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon. Self serve with open seating. Definitely coming back when in the area again.

CLOSED-what a Shame DELICIOUS! Very reasonable prices!! Great food to share! For vegetarians and meat lovers -much to choose from. Trio of Salads is a good way to taste many -we had the cauliflower, the quinoa with butternut squash and the beet salads -were fabulous. The hummus is amazing as were the original falafel. While we liked the cheese stuffed falafel we found them almost too rich with all the other food we were devouring. Our gluten free diner was delighted with the fresh veggie sticks offered instead of the pita. Not your standard celery and carrots. House-made pickles were wonderful. Both baklava were amazing. We drove 30 minutes to get there and found parking within a short walk. You order at the counter, pay and they deliver the food to the tables. Can’t go wrong. We’ll be back. Thank you for such tasty, and great fresh food.

Flavors are perfectly balanced and ingredients super fresh. As a vegetarian I'm in love with the salads, and I also appreciate that the falafel is gluten free. Hummus is amazing as well. Pretty much everything I've tried has been fantastic. Thank you Ba Bite!
