Why Is Taiwan So Obsessed With Hot Pot? | Eater

"A lively, street-facing spot that serves a ginger-forward duck broth in a hot-pot–like format; seating often spills onto the sidewalk with diners on stools and a bustling, communal atmosphere. Service is casual and self-serve in parts (utensils, beer, squeeze-bottle condiments), with ingredients ordered on a simple ticket and delivered to a coal-heated inset burner: large pots arrive filled with mushrooms, duck meatballs, corn and bone-in pieces while additional duck parts (heart, liver, intestines, meatballs) and vegetables are brought to cook as the broth boils. The soup is richly gingery and warming—valued in Chinese medicine for fighting colds—and adventurous items (such as duck testicles) are available for the curious." - Karissa Chen

This random food find is AMAZING! The food was so delicious I ordered double of everything and more broth. The broth is ginger herb and old duck slow simmer and as you cook more food it adds MORE flavor to the broth! It’s soooo delicious for the winter but I had it in the summer and I still finished a pot and half of the broth. The menu is small and duck only with veggies, dedicated to pair with the broth, it’s great to enjoy with friends, drink and just enjoy an intimate time… staff is super friendly and helpful, the environment and decor is very culturally warming. This restaurant definitely wow’d me.

We queued more than an hour for 10 person ahead of us. We reached there 7.22pm on a Friday night. Two of us - we ate 700 twd of food there. Reasonable price. Food nice. The staff are friendly. The place is rowdy so if you don’t mind, it’s ok.

First time in Taiwan & first try this duck soup, the place is across my hotel accommodation (Caesar Metro). The soup is amazing, no strong herbal & ginger flavor, but still flavourful. The duck is tender, no gamey smell. The frozen tofu and fresh bean curd stick are must try. For those who take innards, try the intestine, cook for 30-60s, the texture will be just right. 4 pax TWD 990, value for money. The boss and service crews are very friendly. By the way, they are usually close during hot summer months.

During a cold day, good choice of food. The soup is up one more level if you order a bottle of sake and pour into the pot.

Certainly the beast and the best as winter food! Tasty and warm! Try to ask for rice wine to pour into the soup to cook together, it improved the flavor dimension soooo much!

Yelp
Getting 薑母鴨 had been on our list for a long time, and now that the cold weather is winding down, we figured we better get to it. We decided on this location because it was closest to where we were. Got there at around 6:30 but there was already a line! We were given a number (and told the wait might be two hours!! Eek!) and then went to 7-Eleven to get a snack before coming back. The wait was actually more like an hour -- by the time we came back we didn't have to wait much longer, maybe around 15-20 minutes. Finally we were seated! Coals placed in front of us, and then the 麵線 came out first. We were waiting for the broth before eating it, so it sort of clumped together -- so I would advise not waiting to put some in the bowl. Finally the broth came, with everything we ordered inside, besides the cabbage (duck meatballs, mushrooms, tofu skin), which we put in. OMG the broth though. SO GOOD. Super gingery and slightly medicinal and very healing. I'm coming off of a terrible flu + bronchitis so this was just what I needed. The tofu sauce that was on the side (along with a douse of spicy soy) was so tasty, but honestly, the broth is so good, I didn't really need it most of the time. We ordered a second round of food (more tofu skin, tofu, corn, mushrooms, and more noodles), including duck intestine, which was the only duck innard we tried (I really wanted to try the testicles but I seemed to be the only person interested, and considering it was 300NT, which was like 6x the cost of everything else, we decided not to get it). The intestine though, was great. Tasteless, mostly, but crunchy in texture. I'm not a blood fan, so I wouldn't have ordered that, but if I went back, I'd maybe just splurge and get some testicles. I mean, when else? The duck meat itself was sort of chewy and tough -- not really that suitable for eating. They kept pouring more soup into the pot, btw, so we basically just kept drinking soup. All in all, this was such a delicious meal -- everything I'd hoped for and more! And also, pretty inexpensive -- 5 people and we each paid around $230NT. As far as I know, these establishments are only open during the winter months, so it may be several months before I get to have this again, which makes me sad. I wish I could just take the broth home with me.
