Meet Chef Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam, the World’s First Thai Female to Reach for Two MICHELIN Stars for Baan Tepa

"Driven by a mission of sustainability and precision, I see this restaurant as a place where Chef Chudaree “Tam” Debhakam channels a deeply personal tasting menu and tighter partnerships with local farmers into cuisine that champions Thai ingredients and producers. The menu has evolved to reflect more of her identity, informed by “Baan Tepa On Tour” trips that embed knowledge from farming communities; when you dine here, you might encounter a dish drawn from the Akha hilltribe or Northern Thai spices you wouldn’t find even in Chiang Mai. Her defining plate is the black squid ink “dong dang” noodles—rice noodles learned in Udon Thani and first pressed through a hacked 7‑Eleven plastic coffee cup—dressed in a squid ink sauce with sun‑dried squid and lemongrass that recalls seaside meals in Ko Samui or Phuket and a happy place. This focus and perseverance culminated in two MICHELIN Stars for the restaurant at the 2024 MICHELIN Guide Thailand Ceremony, alongside Debhakam’s Young Chef Award." - Craig Sauers

The service at this fine dining restaurant was the absolute highlight of our experience. Our host, Chot, provided exceptional care, thoughtfully explaining the menu and guiding us through the vegetarian options, such as the green curry. The presentation of the food was stunning—the pictures truly speak for themselves.

Tucked away on a quiet side street just outside the old city moat, this charming Thai mansion has been beautifully transformed into a restaurant and coffee shop. It offers a delightful menu of traditional Thai dishes alongside select Western favorites — all freshly prepared with authentic herbs and ingredients, and presented with warm Thai hospitality and professional service. Don’t miss the desserts — they're just as impressive. This time, I tried the Crème Brûlée with a Thai twist, and it was absolutely delicious. It’s not the cheapest spot in town, but the quality, atmosphere, and service make it well worth every baht. Highly recommended!

Second time here. This is a beautiful restaurant with a spacious and beautiful courtyard, which is impressive. Because there are many of us, in order not to disturb other guests, we chose a private room with a minimum consumption of 4,000 baht. It is a bit regrettable that the food was overall salty this time, the sea bass was not fresh enough, and the rice of the pineapple fried rice was a bit mushy and too wet. Strictly speaking, the product this time was slightly inferior to the first time, and it was not in line with the standard of this restaurant.

Pricier than most restaurants in Chiang Mai, but everything is just extraordinary. Food was great, service was beyond expectation, and atmosphere was just awesome. I'll definitely revisit it.

This restaurant has an indoor area that exudes a fine dining ambiance, while the outdoor area is more inviting during December with its cool weather. The menu boasts an extensive selection of Thai food, which is generally delicious but can sometimes be a bit too salty. Some of the dishes we tried were delicious, particularly the fish soup. The price is a bit higher than usual.
