Superb boutique style guesthouse at traveller friendly prices in Thewet, a relaxed and picturesque part of Bangkok , yet just 15 minutes walk to the tourist area of Banglamphu. The guesthouse is a lovingly modernised old colonial Thai style mansion, with comfortable en suite rooms, soft and clean linen and comfortable beds with soft pillows. The guest rooms are cleaned every day and complimentary bottles of water replenished.A filling continental style breakfast including eggs, fresh fruits, muesli, juices and fresh coffee is included. Gae's ground floor coffee shop which opens out onto the street offers various good coffees and teas and gives great people watching, and this together with an inside patio with water feature and plants enhances the relaxing atmosphere. Hostess Gae is a charming woman, fluent in English and a treasure trove of information about the surrounding area and history of Bangkok. She took us on a free guided tour of the local wats, including breakfast at an atmospheric local market on the Sunday morning, which was enhanced by her knowledge of the area and its history.
The guesthouse has excellent connections to the rest of Bangkok, being 2 minutes walk to Thewet river ferry pier, also just opposite the start of the free boats up the canal to destinations such as Hua Lamphong central railway station, and buses to Victory Monument, Chinatown and everywhere else. Also taxis, tuk tuks and moto taxis at the boat pier. The area is charming and peaceful, with a lovely flower market alongside the canal opposite the guest house, and various other markets, restaurants and street food just steps from the guest house. Superb value, and most highly recommended.
