Everything You Need to Know About Khao Chae, Thailand’s Summertime Go-to Dish to Beat the Heat

"At this Bib Gourmand spot, a family recipe for khao chae passed down for over a century keeps the traditional key ingredients intact, but the service is tailored for sharing—presented family-style rather than individually so everyone can enjoy it together." - Michelin Guide Thailand Editorial Team

I’m currently staying in this house and I’ve been hearing knocking so randomly it is a old house and one of the rooms has a rocking chair, the house is kind of creepy since its colonial, but one time when I was sleeping in my room alone I hear lots of knocks from my balcony door, keep in mind I’m alone, also I always here knocks from another room that inside is a creepy meeting room covered in window doors with small blankets covering them, this is a Michelin star air bnb but I recommend this to brave people who aren’t scared of ghosts because even my dad who is 43, is scared. Also the kitchen is outside of the house in an alleyway so it’s also creepy to go to the kitchen at night, also the piano is broken. And I always hear the train honking severely, thank god I had ear plugs but couldn’t stop the knocking and there are cats that are climbing over roofs.

I didn't stay overnight, but I attended a wedding over there. I may be a little biased, but my personal experience was that the food was delicious, and the staff very friendly

I stayed here in December and had a great time. I missed my window of opportunity to review on the airbnb page as it was quite a busy season for me, so I wanted to leave a review here because I really had a lovely stay. From the get-go booking on Airbnb, our hosts Jam and Tao were friendly, helpful and receptive. They provided some useful tips for visiting the area. The room itself was lovely, comfortable, well-decorated and the compound was a delight as well with chirping birds and lilting jazz from downstairs. I really enjoyed my stay there and would absolutely love to stay again. The other reviews comment on the welcoming homey-cozy feel and this was definitely true of our experience. The neighbourhood is a sleepy one, with coffee shops a small drive or big walk away, which fit the experience I was looking for. A small note that the building is opposite a train line with occasional tannoy announcements when a train passes through. It was ok for me at night with earplugs, and my heavy-sleeper partner slept through it all so that was not a concern for us although I can imagine it would be for light sleepers. We had lunch on one of the days we were there, too. It was really tasty and the environment was relaxing. We had the flower blossom salad, and it was easy to get vegetarian options. All in all, a top boutique stay!

It is a great boutique hotel with very unique concepts about home and family as well as having Thai colonial period/culture being presented in every corner of the house. It's elegance, beautiful, classy and with lots of comforts the owner brings to her guests. You may see how much efforts and details the owner puts into every room. Every room has its own character. The food is delicious and the presentation is attractive, which is transformed from the home recipes of the owner into the modern dinning. ||Worth staying highly recommend!

I stay for my weekend get away in Bangkok with my friends and we love the stay here very much. The room is very nice design and spacious. The house is so relaxing and good for small group gathering. The bed is very comfortable. The location is good as well you can easily walk to 7-11 and can find many nice bakery, coffee and restaurants around.

Love it! Overall experience was beyond delightful! The room was well decorated, the bed and pillows were so comfortable. We can tell how much detail the host has put into the design. All the detailed was taken neatly. Loved the smell of the soap and shampoo. Not sure what herb it was made from, but it smells so good The breakfast, egg benedict, was fantastic. We finished it all. Locationwise was also good. Easy to get taxi and close to train station. The area is really a residential area so it makes us feel like home. Doungsawart is a very nice host. She has communicated well to all questions we have and make sure we have a great stay. Would recommend this place to all friends!

Good ambience and nice Thai-colonial-inspired decoration. Taste is okay but very beautiful presentation. However the food is pricey and small portion. Recommended for afternoon tea. If you want to try food, order dishes that couldn't easily find at other place: watermelon/fried fish, namprik (chili paste), Thai dessert.

Secluded restaurant and hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, however, not too far from the city centre nor the old town. Food is authentic traditional Thai, very homey. Menu has descriptions for each dish. Padthai tastes great. Nice food presentation.
