An Authentic Korat Journey in the Heart of Bangkok! My husband and I recently dined at Baannok BKK, and it was precisely the kind of dining experience that reminds you why authentic regional Thai cuisine is so extraordinary. Tucked away on the second floor of Vivre Langsuan, this intimate restaurant serves genuine Korat-style dishes, recipes rooted in tradition, not tailored for foreign palates.
We ordered four dishes, each a masterclass in balance and freshness. The Grilled Korat Chicken with Herbs and Spicy Sauce arrived perfectly executed: the chicken was tender and infused with aromatic herbs, while the fiery sauce delivered genuine heat without overwhelming the delicate proteins. It was served with sticky rice, which paired beautifully, the way sticky rice should. The Rice Soup with Prawns, Minced Pork, and Mushrooms proved equally impressive; this was comfort in a bowl, fragrant with those bold Isan herbs and spices that define northeastern Thai cooking. The Roasted Crispy Rice and Fermented Sausage Salad was a textural triumph, the interplay between crispy elements and the sour, garlicky punch of properly fermented sausage made this a standout dish. What struck us most was how incredibly fresh and tasty everything was. There’s no cutting corners here; you taste real ingredients, real technique, and genuine care in every bite.
For dessert, we shared the Candied Banana with Coconut Espuma and that was an absolutely delicious and delightful finale that showcased the kitchen’s refinement. The tropical sweetness of the banana, the airy elegance of the espuma, the subtle coconut notes, it was the perfect conclusion to our meal. The atmosphere is warm and nostalgic without feeling stuck in the past, and the service is attentive and knowledgeable. While prices reflect the quality and authenticity, the value here is undeniable. This is serious Thai cooking in an approachable setting. Highly recommended for anyone seeking the real thing.
