Baatara Pothole (BP) is an amazing site to visit when you come to Lebanon. BP is one of the most important geological features in Lebanon. It is located in Chatine village in the Batroun Mountains at an altitude of 1480 m. BP is famous for the astonishing 3 natural bridges rising one above the other over a height of 100 m and overhanging the enormous mouth of a chasm plunging 255 m deep in the ground. We were taught about the strategic plan and the different projects of the newly established municipality. One of the project aims is to promote tourism activities in a sustainable way. Despite the bright picture BP is threatened by irresponsible anthropogenic activities. Therefore, the site was protected in March 2004, by a decision (8/1) from the Ministry of Environment, thus preventing unwanted developments. However, this protection measure is not sufficient since many pollution sources are located outside the protection perimeter. Moreover, many efforts are deployed to transform the village into an Eco-Village by adopting different environment-friendly practices. Protection of the natural resources, including the BP site, is an urgent task. Instagram @profnasr

The place is amazing. However, during my last visit, they were building some kiosks. What a great way to ruin a natural beauty.
