Where to Find Nashville Hot Chicken in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"Baba’s hot chicken promises an authentic version of the Nashville speciality, incorporating halal chicken coated in imported spices, fried in peanut oil and seasonings adjusted to either mild, medium or hot. Order the hot chicken in sandwiches, as tenders or sliders, and pair them with fries or mac ‘n’ cheese." - Darlene Horn

So at 1st the short menu made me question our decision to go to this place. Then reading the warning about their super spicy chicken and needing to sign a waiver peeked our interest. We are not suicidal so we went one tier down as well as ordered the loaded fries. The spicy chicken sandwich was Excellent, however, those loaded fries 🍟are the bomb 💣. Plenty of seating and located around a lot of other food venues. Parking is something to be desired though, so grab a drink from 1 of the venues that offer 1 hour free parking and you are set.

Located in the heart of Hillcrest. Lots of foot traffic and pets. Parking was difficult. Watch out for parking signs and curb color when parallel parking. Love that their menu is very simple like In n Out. There’s 4 main food items (sandwich, tender, mini sandwich, loaded fries), 4 side choices (Mac & cheese, fried pickles, crinkle cut fries, grilled cheese), and 4 spice levels (mild, medium, hot, extreme). All items come with sides except for the loaded fries. We got: Mini Baba (mild) with Mac & cheese - the mini is not so mini, it’s like the size of a Whooper Jr. and comes with one chicken tender between the buns. Still a decent size. Loaded fries (medium) - tons of ranch and secret sauce with thick cut slaw and small bites of chicken. It was almost too much sauce that I think if there’s ever a next time, I would ask for the sauce on the side. Hot tenders (hot) with crinkle cut fries - two chicken strips over two pieces of sandwich slices. The chicken was too much white meat for me and bland as in not much seasoning except for the over powering of the outside spice. The tenders spice level was hot. The mild mini was not spicy to me but the medium fries definitely had a kick. I took a bite of the bread that had spice from the hot tenders and my lips were on fire! I would say spice level is on point but the chicken is on the dry side. Don’t forget Babas is also considered halal which is a “healthy/natural/pure” way of prepping the meat . Other than a simple menu, it was standard. The Mac & cheese was with white cheddar and wasn’t so cheesy.

Overall a decent place, not bad to drop by and have a bite, but not worth going for. Ordered Chicken Sandwich and Fries. First things first, the chicken. I ordered Spicy, seasoning is nice and has a kick to it. However, the meat is a little bit dry and tough, not perfect. The bun has a nice texture and is pretty good. The slaw is just plain and had no seasoning at all. It's supposed to be slaw, not shredded veggies! The house sauce is good and goes well the the burger. A note on the fries, it's not bad, but because I ordered delivery, it's gotten very soggy and I had to put it under the Broiler for five minutes. Maybe use a different packaging or don't cramp all your fries so closely to help solve this problem.

If you haven't been, you're definitely missing out. Best spicy chicken sandwich you'll eat. Tried it for the first time in Riverside and got super excited they had one in SD. I always get the Hot Sandwich Combo. Fried pickles are simply juicy, crunchy goodness. Sandwich is *chefs kiss* amazing. The loaded fries are a banger. The cheese at the bottom seal the deal. Surprised it's not always packed. Super clean and cool spot!

This was our first time going there, I saw an add on Instagram so we decide to check it out. When we arrived there was just a few people already waiting for their food two ladies and a group of 3 we ordered our food to go and we waited for almost an hour while people who arrived and ordered after us got their food and walked out, when I asked what was taking so long the guy at the register said it was almost up and the people who who got their food before us was because they had already ordered before we got there which was a lie, we were sitting there and saw them come up and order after we had already been waiting. We finally got our food and we were very disappointed with the quality of the food as you can see in the pictures my sandwich had hardly any coleslaw and the chicken was so dry and over cooked the seasoning was so overwhelming I had to drown it in the sauce they gave me, my $4 side of mack and cheese was not good I scooped some out to take the picture and show how bad it looked. Unfortunately it will be our first and last time going there, I don’t know if the cashier knew the guys that ordered after we did but he was giving them free sides cuz they waited 10 minutes longer than expected while we had been there for over 40 minutes at that point. Not impressed with the food or customer service.

Delicious! Best hot chicken sandwich I've ever had. I love spicy food, and the "extreme" was about as hot as I'd want. They said to try the atomic one off the secret menu, maybe if I'm feeling brave I'll get that next time. 10/10.

First time here, was just walking around looking for something snag real quick. Had the loaded fries medium spice. Was good lots of cheese of course and the slaw and sauce was a great addition, could have used a bit more of the slaw and sauce though! Overall pretty good.
