"This casual, build-your-own bowl style spot found nowhere but Portland serves an array of flavors and mix-ins to pair with a dollop of smooth, creamy hummus. Pros know to double up on the pillowy soft, freshly baked pita bread on the side for dipping. An order of fragrant basmati turmeric rice balances out the hummus’ hardcore garlic taste. Order takeout online for pickup at its Cascade Station and NE Alberta locations." - Lauren Carlos, Michelle DeVona

Google
I have eaten and worked in many Mediterranean restaurants and food carts , I tried many different dishes, but I want to say one of the best Mediterranean dishes and services is Babas Restaurant. I like the organic food that they make, homemade food, and sauces. If I need to eat everyday food outside definitely babas restaurant, you get value for price.

Google
Great food, prices, and service. We got a little of everything and nothing disappointed. The falafel was a particularly highlight, but everything was tasty and the portions were huge for the price. I finished my chicken shawarma pita for dinner because it was so good, but there were plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. I forgot to ask his name, but the man who made our food was super nice, double checked everything was just right, and made some delicious food. I highly recommend it.

Google
Staff was friendly, funny, sociable, polite and informative. I was a little disappointed that the beef & lamb pita's didn't look much like the photo on the main menu page, but the food was delicious & filling. Love the sauce selection! Quick order process, in & out in under 10 minutes. Facilities were clean & modern. Would recommend & will return again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Google
Lovely fresh food! My chicken kabobs were made fresh, and was still very moist. My husband’s pita was packed full.

EAT RIGHT... AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!!! I’m a certified CAVEMAN-MEATLOVING-CARNIVORE... BUT... oh my god the falafel bowl satisfied my hunger sans-meat!!!! I can’t believe it!!! No SALT!!!... No PROCESSED SUGAR!!!! SUPER CLEAN!!!! Excellent friendly service! I would add more but I don’t want to be mistaken as being bought!!! 😂 Excellent Healthy food... Btw... clean restroom too!!! Sammy is running a tight, tasty ship!!! 😋👍

Google
There was no one waiting, so I could order quickly. However, it took a long time to order something that needed to be cooked because there was only one staff. The food was all neat and delicious. Oh, we all togo an order but we were embarrassed because they didn't give us a fork.

Google
This is the one place we picked on the whole street of restaurants left open on a Thursday night after some ice cream. The man there was friendly but he seemed to be confused when making our dishes, then I saw him double checking the order and then simply pushing the correct salad onto the other plate and checking back again. When we got home to eat, my order was wrong, but I didn't mind much as it tasted good, BUT most of the meat was just fat and chewy bits, not meat. I have just finished my gf's leftover from this place from that night and noticed that there are pieces of char that I now realize are flat pieces of TEFLON from their pans, I was eating Teflon thinking I had oddly crunchy bits of char. I will not return here due to this. I can forgive wrong orders but poor quality meat and Teflon sprinkles are a no no.

Google
Yummy 😋 for sure. My husband picked up some falafel 🥙🧆 and chicken shawarma for us for dinner. All super delicious and I barely have leftovers. The staff is friendly and kind. We will keep supporting a variety of restaurants on different days of the week.

Yelp
Baba's Mediterranean Grill is located in Cascade Park Station, which is a great location... lots of parking nearby but not super busy. The staff was super friendly and patient, even though there were lots of customers inside. There is some seating inside, but many bought to-go as well. Their fryer broke when we arrived, so there were no falafels. One of the gyro broilers was broken as well so they were grilling meat on the stove. I love that the meals are very customizable, from the protein to the sauce. It is set up like Chipotle. I got the lamb and beef shawarma bowl, which was tasty and filling. I love the many vegetable options, which were all very fresh and crunchy, cutting the fat from the meat. Would return!

Yelp
A delightful gem in the heart of Portland's Alberta district! I had the Lamb & Beef Bowl here, and it was an absolute treat for the taste buds. Let's break it down: Food: The Lamb & Beef Bowl was packed with flavor. The tender lamb and beef were perfectly seasoned, and the addition of creamy Feta cheese elevated the dish to another level. The classic Mediterranean veggies were fresh and crisp, adding a delightful crunch to every bite. Service: Baba's knows how to impress with their swift service. I didn't have to wait long for my food, and the staff was friendly and attentive. Ambiance: The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout, you'll feel right at home. And the best part? All this goodness for just $16!

Yelp
Food - orders the lamb + beef pita shawarma By the looks of it - put together really poorly. The tzatziki sauce I only on top. Very slim amount for the Rea rid the sandwich. Pita is not warmed. Cold and breaks easily. There's no flavor on this sandwich at all. Extremely disappointing. Service - subpar. Don't really interact with you. But that's okay I guess. Ambiance - the place looks nice Two stars and that's generous. The fact that there's NO seasoning at all on any of the items is kind of wild to me.

Joel L.

Yelp
Man working there was very patient with the kids when they were ordering. He was helpful in letting us know what was what. Food was very good. Loved the special hot sauce toum garlic sauce. Rice and chicken was also chefs kiss

Cassie S.

Yelp
This place should be packed! The falafel is the best I've ever had and the meals are refreshing and delicious. Rami was kind and made a beautiful bowl for me. Everything tasted great and was filling without being heavy. I've eaten there twice now and it's been perfect. Don't miss!

Lynn R.

Yelp
We were looking for a healthy and yummy place to eat on Alberta since we didn't wanna eat outside of the food trucks because it was freezing outside and super windy. We both saw the Mediterranean food option so we went inside and it was nice and cozy with plenty of seating. We liked the simplicity of the menu and the fresh ingredients so we both ordered the lamb and beef. My daughter chose the bowl and I chose the pita bread sandwich. I like that they offer You The options of what you want to accompany your meat or your chosen protein and then they have a kale and carrot salad a fresh cucumber and tomato salad and some other options and then you get to choose between five different sauces so I choose that said Zieke sauce and tahini sauce and my daughter chose the house spicy sauce and so I cheeky. The price was reasonable and the food was very fresh lots of colors and textures . The owner was very friendly and efficient and the whole place was very clean and it had a nice Egyptian mural painted on the wall. The lighting was nice and it was very cozy inside. I would recommend this place if you want something healthy and fresh and quick. The falafel is supposed to be really good but I didn't choose that today for those of you that like a vegetarian option there is also hummus added to everything if you'd like.

Mary Christine D.

Yelp
The menu has a lot of choices and is laid out so that it is very easy to pull a meal together. The service was very friendly. But for us, the biggest draw was the food. I had the platter (pita, hummus, falafel, and baba ganoush), which I shared. My husband had a pita sandwich in which he could choose the ingredients. We also got extra pita and tzatziki. Everything was so good--fresh, great portion size, tasty, and the perfect amount of spicy. But the baba ganoush? It was honestly the best we have ever had! I love it, and always order it at Mediterranean restaurants; my husband likes it but is more of a hummus person. We both devoured it because it was amazing! The tzatziki was especially good, too. We ended up here because the place we had planned to eat in was carry-out only. We are happy to have had this happen. I feel like we found a hidden gem that won't be hidden long.

Celia L.

Yelp
We were in the area and stopped into baba's for lunch and the guy working was sooo friendly!! Food was really good and well prepared. We live in Beaverton but will be back!

Krasimir K.

Yelp
I don't like to write 1-star reviews, but this restaurant deserves it. It's all based on the quality of the food. Ambiance is fine. Service is fine. But the food is not good. All items we ordered lacked flavor - the lentil soup, the felafel platter, and the chicken shawarma bowl. The soup was too peppery, the hummus was watery, the tabouli salad was not dressed and chopped right, the felafel tested like some fried unidentifiable substance, and the rice tasted funky. We also wanted to get baklava, but it looked dry and not appetizing. When I say that the food lacked flavor, I mean extremely bland. Airplane food tastes better. The food at soup kitchens across Portland tastes better. High school cafeteria food tastes better. We have eaten at every Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurant in Portland and the food at this one is the worst. We'll never go back. In a city like Portland, known for its great food and restaurants, this low quality of food is shameful.

E G.

Yelp
Got take out last night and we were sadly disappointed. The food lacked flavor. For example, the chicken was a little bland and the tzatziki was super bland. The hummus was also fairly tasteless. The falafel were too crunchy to fully appreciate the flavor. We will not be returning.

Shimeng F.

Yelp
Find out this place while trying to visit ikea. It locates in the near mall area and I was surprised by how good the food was there. Baba works as chipotle where you. Can build your own bowl. I ordered humus with rice and lamb and beef as my protein. The food are really fresh and people work there are quite generous. Highly recommend their chipotle tahini sauce! If you happen to be around the area, this will be a perfect place for a quick hot mea!

Stephen W.

Yelp
Meh. I saw the great reviews and thought it would be solid. Much better out there from carts around town. Also crazy expensive for what it is. Shawarma thick cut and a bit bland and dry. "Pick your own" style is kinda annoying. I mean, I just want a great pita without having to consider what's going into it. Chef's choice should be tops. My partner said the falafel was good but the rest of the fixings not that great.

Jenna B.

Yelp
The chicken shawarma bowl is top notch. The chicken was so tender and the bowl was so big and filling. Will definitely be coming back again to try the falafel!

Mert M.

Yelp
Iam not sure why it has more than 4 star ratings , food is really bad , we ordered Shawerma beef bowl and chicken bowl, beef was full of fat , no seasoning whatsoever, very hard , chicken was full of fat as well , it tasted better then meat but still , Hummas was bland , rice was mushy and tomato was sour . I do not recommend the food at all, we ended up throwing food away.!

Erika A.

Yelp
We wandered in at opening on a Tuesday for two pitas and a bowl. It's chipotle style in that you order, they assemble, you find your seat with food in hand. The servings were very generous; I opted for no rice, extra veggies in my bowl and I still couldn't finish it. There were all the traditional garnishes and sauces plus more that we found in Israel. The falafel is delicious, and they allow you to do 50/50 on your protein, your options being: lamb/beef, chicken, falafel, pork. I'm not sure if it's because they're new or not, but we weren't able to get a glass of tap water, they only offer case items of bottled water (smart and topo chino), apple juice, and an ACV drink. I would have brought my water bottle had I been privy to the options. We paid $45 or so for three meals and two drinks.

Josh A.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Made fresh to order with fresh ingredients. Staff was very attentive and helpful as well!

Brytannie M.

Yelp
10 star if possible: * chicken shawarma bowl with everything.. tender, so much food. Amazing! * order before picking up - only took 10-15 mins! * the girl working behind the counter was so friendly and accommodating We just moved to the area, can not wait to make this a staple!

Lee K.

Yelp
Great menu, delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices. Just a small, unassuming little place but well worth checking out.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Excellent food. Extremely clean and comfortable environment. Staff is very nice and accommodating and quick. I get the lamb and beef bowl with chipotle tahini and I'm always impressed

Jenka S.

Yelp
This place is so great - the best pork shawarma, best falafel (crispy, not soggy like some places in town). The bowls and the sandwiches are both great! And very friendly service. The mural on the wall is really pretty too!

Emerson J.

Yelp
great food. cute space. nice people and now i'm told that i'm just 48 characters away!

Cody C.

Yelp
Sandwiches were adequate. The 6$ tabouli was tiny and tasted rotten and fermented. The pita is probably our favorite part. Happy at least the packaging was earth friendly.

James K.

Yelp
The food is spot on. Solid 4/5. If they had a few more options definitely a 5/5. Only reason for two stars is every time I come here I'm made to feel like I'm ruining the staffs day by making them work. Mostly because every time I come they are outside smoking and I walk in and wait a few minutes for them to come in. Come for the food but don't expect to be treated like a normal human and you won't be disappointed. You'll find yourself telling them multiple times what you want. At least twice per option. Don't bother ordering online. They won't make it till you come to pick it up so it's much faster to call ahead or just pop in and order subway style. Taste 5/5 Options 2/5 Speed 3/5 Staff 0/5 it would literally almost be better if they didn't have staff.

Anne G.

Yelp
I got falafel, tabouli, humus and pitas. It was so delicious!! I've been trying to find a decent Mediterranean restaurant forever and I'm in Vancouver but I'll gladly drive here! Next time I'm going to try the shawarma.

Joe C.

Yelp
Well this is quite a pleasant experience. I have seen this place down here but have not really wanted to stop in until now. I wish I would have sooner. It is like a chipotle but for Mediterranean food. At least how that's the really nice girl working behind the counter explained it. She also told me it was a family restaurant which is really cool and nice to support. I got the Beef Shawarma with lamb and it was amazing. If you have any questions be sure to ask the staff and they will explain what everything is. They also have multiple housemaid sauces that go really well also. I recommend the chipotle and the hot sauce one. The only thing that really got me was that I was Jones in for a beer to go with the Shawarma and unfortunately they do not have a liquor license. But they do have some cool draft sodas on tap.

Yasmine A.

Yelp
No. I ordered a Chicken Kaboob platter from this place via Postmates and was disappointed. Luckily I was starving so I chowed down, but first off, everything was SO SALTY. Second, the portion size was tiny for an $18 platter. Two kabobs, a 1/2 cup of old rice and a 2 scoops of salad. No pita either.

Josh J.

Yelp
Outside: looks like Chipotle. Inside: tastes like Chipotle. Raisin Bran has more flavor

Will D.

Yelp
This is a good/quick place to grab a bite to eat to go! Friendly staff. The food is perfect for what it is. It's not a super fancy/ritzy spot, it's just a simple chipotle-styled place where you order at the register. The food felt superrrrr clean and fresh. They also sold mexican coke and sprite that has real cane sugar. A tiny bit pricey, but the gyro wrap was fantastic. Also, some of the better falafel i've had! Would highly recommend.

Laura L.

Yelp
I love this place. It's essentially keto friendly if you don't get the hummus. The guy working behind the counter was one of the hottest people I've ever met.

Marie A.

Yelp
We were in town for a quick day trip and saw this from the train. Since my DH is "Baba" we knew we had to try it and we are so glad we did. Everything was delicious and prepared right in front of us. Prices were great less than $25 for both of us and they even comped a falafel appetizer. We will be going back here for sure!

Riel M.

Yelp
Delicious falafal pita sandwich made fresh. It is like a burrito bar where you can see all the ingredients and ask for exactly what you want. Owner said falafel made with fava beans. Makes it more tasty. I can see that. Not dry. I would come here often if I were in neighborhood.

Adrian C.

Yelp
Man.....that was not the meal I was expecting. Got a falafel bowl earlier today and thought the falafel tasted like it had turned, but I ate it anyway, figuring it must just be the way they taste. Halfway in, I got that warm, tingly feeling in my face; the kind you get right before you puke. I then proceeded to projectile-vomit all over my kitchen counter. Me and Baba's are 0-2. I won't be back for a third go.

Sara K.

Yelp
This is great lunch spot (although they are also open for dinner) where you can create your own pita or rice/salad bowl. Is it the best Mediterranean food in town? No. But for the price, portions, flavor, and quickness it certainly hits the spot. They have a few options for protein and then you can add extras to a pita or a bowl, such as cucumber salad, pickled onions, kale, cabbage salad, tabouleh, hummus, etc. The sauces are very tasty, especially the garlic sauce- I highly recommend this one. I usually get the lamb and beef schwarma, which was tender and moist the first time I went, but a little dry when I went for a second time. The portions are generous and you certainly won't leave hungry.

Nikeisah N.

Yelp
Thank you Ramy for reaching out to rectify our last experience with Baba's. I look forward to trying Babas again and will post an updated review after our meal.

Paul M.

Yelp
I came in for a falafel sandwich and it was a great decision. The veggies and toppings are very fresh. The falafel is made to order so its perfectly crispy. Had a chance to also a bite of the saffron rice with some lemon beef and that made me wish I had room for two lunches... The meat was perfectly tender with a nice smoky finish and the rice was very rich and tender. There was even a little rice crust in the bowl (tahdig almost!) Highly recommend!

Sara F.

Yelp
I'm so happy this place has come to Alberta! They have so many amazing sauces, and they were really patient when I wanted to try them all : ). The baba spicy sauce is not spicy but SUPER DELICIOUS. The falafels my friend got were really crispy and my chicken was great. Seriously, though... those sauces. PLUS, a bunch of great toppings to choose from. Please, come here, I don't want this place to go away.

Alejandra P.

Yelp
Authentic Mediterranean food! Great portions and flavor is to die for. I would highly recommend this spot. Friendly staff, very clean and welcoming environment. A must t

Megan E.

Yelp
I used to love this place so much... I don't know what's changed but there's a lot wrong now. The last time I went here I found hairs in both our bowls... I contacted the owner but heard nothing back. I went today to give them one more chance and every single vegetable on my bowl smelled and tasted rotten, especially compared to the delicious ones I have gotten in the past. I had to throw away half the bowl out of fear of getting sick from the bad produce.

Brittany M.

Yelp
I didn't know anything about the restaurant but was craving Mediterranean. This place did not hit the spot. The food just seemed lackluster. We ordered online and my husband walked down to pick it up and apparently the online system didn't update the restaurant and we had to place the order again. Thankfully we were not charged twice.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Super bland and mediocre - grainy hummus, grocery store pita, plain chicken. Definitely not worth it.

Zachary T.

Yelp
Pretty tasty gentrification Mediterranean. Menu is small and out of Chicken skewers when i arrived to pick up my order. Employee was very nice, did what he could to make it right. Everything tasted fresh like it hadn't sat all day. All the sides and salads are delicious and pitas are steamed fresh. Fast and easy to go orders. My allegiance still lays with Nicholas but would definitely eat here again.

Kori S.

Yelp
This is the best Mediterranean food I've ever had! The pita was thick and warm and lovely and the mint hummus was to die for. Will definitely order again!

Ivana H.

Yelp
I went here a month or so ago and was eating outside when the young woman who ordered after me rushing out in shock saying the guy working behind the counter flashed her his genitals while she was trying to pay. We ran away and she was disturbed not knowing whether to call the police. The man behind the counter was middle-aged and had a bald/shaved head. I have had a few friends also share sketchy behavior about this guy with me. Beware!

Ashley L.

Yelp
So my family is Israeli and we are all about middle eastern food, unfortunately this place was a huge disappointment. Flavors are off, food is not fresh. Tomatoes in salad were off putting. This style food needs to be fresh and seasoned properly and would of been tasty. In addition we paid for extra meat in both meals and we barely had any meat. Really wanted to like this place we also always add a tip with take out which we regret since we missed our drink.

Kelli B.

Yelp
Their food is absolutely delicious. The set up of the restaurant is similar to a chipotle where you can build your own bowl, kabob or pita. It's absolutely amazing with a lot of options to make your dish the way you want it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! When I went into this restaurant they were training a new employee and although she was new she was incredibly knowledgeable with everything they offered and super kind. Her and her boss made sure I was taken care of. Perfect spot to take a group of people to and have everyone make their dish the way they want to.

Patrick W.

Yelp
I was a bit late picking up my order and the owner was nice enough to make my order fresh again. I tried to give him a larger tip and he wouldn't take it. He said it was ok I appreciate you coming in. Great service and food just remember when you order online pick up your food on time. It prevents them from having to waste food and lose money.

Emma J.

Yelp
Tried this place out for lunch today, pretty good overall. The pita was very fresh and soft. The gyro was not as flavorful as I was hoping, but was very good. A fast and easy place for lunch in the Alberta arts district.

Jesse L.

Yelp
The bigger chunks of my chicken kabob were still raw. I hate leaving bad reviews but this is a safety issue. The flavor was ok but I would head over to a local cart for a more authentic flavor.

Ben B.

Yelp
Looking for a quick yet healthy meal??? Look know further than BaBa's Mediterranean Grill. My family were out with our small kids and needed to stop for lunch. The Falafel was our choice for all 4! It was quick healthy and delicious! They use fava beans instead chickpeas and you can tell. The fava beans are less dry than typical falafels. We will be back no doubt!

Paul M.

Yelp
As a foody and descendant of people from Palestine, the food was inauthentic. The falafel, while cooked using fava beans (great) was tasteless missing cumin, salt, and flavor. The lamb shawarma was chewy and dry and the beef shawarma tasteless and dry which is super odd given the entire point of shawarma is to guarantee tender and juicy. The line was 4 people in front of us and yet it was 25 minutes before we ordered. All-in-all a terrible experience. Worst food I have had at any Portland establishment in the last decade and over 1000 food experiences in Portland. Two thumbs down. I am giving it two stars in the hope they can fix it.
