3 Charleston Restaurants Offering Aperitivo Hours | Eater Carolinas

"Operated by Charleston restaurateur Edward Crouse and his wife Marie Stitt, this café offers a weekly aperitivo on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to close featuring complimentary Italian-style snacks—boquerones, focaccia, quality olives, spicy cucumbers, marinated white beans, and pickled okra—intended as a way to give back to regulars and appeal to tourists. The initiative is rooted in the owners’ Italian memories and inspiration; Crouse frames it as an affordable way to provide great food, drink, and service, even absorbing roughly $100 a week in food costs to ensure guests have a lively weekend experience." - Erin Perkins

13 Essential Spots to Eat Brunch in Charleston

"Keep an eye on Instagram for announcements of the famous biscuit tower at Babas on Meeting. Gather six friends for a multilayered feast (only available on Saturdays) of fluffy biscuits, fresh jam, thick bacon, cream cheese, lox, and so much more. If the tower isn’t available, Babas still offers generous portions of avocado toasts, perfectly dressed salads, pastries, coffee, and fun wines." - Erin Perkins

Every Charleston Restaurant Opening, Fall 2021 | Eater Carolinas

"A second outpost of a petite café/bar that has taken over a small sandwich-and-soup café within a larger establishment; it continues the original's casual cafe focus while bringing the Babas team's approach to sandwiches, soups, and salads to a new location." - Erin Perkins

If you have an unlimited budget, Baba’s is wonderful. The atmosphere is pleasantly busy at peak times, a pleasant bustle, especially with the delicatessen activity of Goat, Sheep, Cow which shares the building. It is plush feeling, conveying a sense of a place with history, as you might get from a nice museum cafe in Europe. The outside seating is secluded and nice. Today’s experience: 1) the avocado toast. This at once was the best avo toast I ever had. But today, the bread was thin and crisp. I liked it better when it was thicker. Presentation was lovely, thinly sliced avo, red pepper chili flakes, and flor de sal. It was overstalted, enough to burn a bit and overpower the flavor, not enough me to not scarf down both pieces. 2) The 8oz OJ: It’s six dollars. It’s almost worth it. So cold, so refreshing, so flavorful. 3) Chocolate chip cookie: delicious. Bitter chocolate, melted, pecans, a texture and that crunches and squishes. 4) Black coffee: delicious. I had to ask for a cup and saucer as they handed me a paper cup first. The fine in experience is so much better with a ceramic cup. Also, I had to ask for the cookie to be heated. They were happy to accommodate me. Overall, the price is exorbitant: 26.00 dollars for the above items. But I will keep coming back. Lastly, excellent music selection: some African influenced, jazzesque, anonymous background feel. Overall, Baba’s contributes something unique to Charleston with its class and eloquence. Its prices have grown out of proportion to its nostalgic atmosphere, but I will continue to come back.

As a local realtor, I'm always on the hunt for great spots to stop and grab a coffee in between showings and to get some work done. The whipped honey latte is my absolute favorite.

Really nice place to hang out - noticed a lot of people working from their laptops. We enjoyed a light breakfast and coffee before driving out of town. I got the avocado toast and added an egg, my boyfriend got two tacos. We loved it!

This coffee shop seemed to have merged with the goat sheep cow place. Loved the vibes inside, but they also have a small patio. We had a chai latte (hot) and a Iced vanila latte and we enjoyed both. It was so nice to sit inside and relax while its super hot outside.

Richard, Stu, and Anna, were incredible hosts. I wish I were in town for longer to enjoy more of their hospitality and incredible drinks. Can't recommend enough!!!

Google
Awesome spot! They have partnered up with Goat. Sheep. Cow. And the combo of the retail shopping and the cafe really work. I loved my americano and I had Mushroom toast which was delicious. We would happily go back and I would provably make this a frequent stop if I lived in the area! Well done!

The brick walls, lighting, patio, foliage, ambience, etc. were lovely. Definitely liked the style but the food/drinks were just okay. Would go back for the vibes tho.

Baba's is an excellent option for a quick breakfast, brunch, coffee or a meet up place for business. The environment is nice, the food is good, and the service is friendly.

Yelp
Babas is a classic for me. You can find me there at all hours of operation I feel like. They will check off all the box's for a great coffee shop. - perfect seating, it can get really busy but somehow there is always a spot for you- not to mention they are always on top of getting your drinks to you quickly in the midst of a crowd - perfect lighting, yes I said it. I am someone who gets frustrated when I can't see my screen, some places you can't get good lighting to work on a computer, but they do anywhere and everywhere. -food A+, can't go wrong with avacado toast or a class party item recently tried their pistachio brioche bread and loved. It's unique, lots of textures but would get again. - coffee, amazing. A classic for me is the ice peanut mocha- but I tried the whipped honey today and will get it again. - service is always an A+, I hope they know they are rockstars and we appreciate them! Also parking is easy at this location! Easy on the side of road and a small parking lot.

Yelp
I was a bit confused in that I thought this was the old Butcher and Bee spot (which is the next block down and contains a similar cafe). This was probably the right choice anyway though. And it was also the right choice compared to the other Babas location. That one was cramped and chaotic; this one was slower paced but still had a nice atmosphere with a small outdoor courtyard and an indoor deli and market. I came seeking a salad, and the pistachio and parmesan salad, much the same as at the other location, was fresh to the extreme and delectable. From my perspective, it was actually good enough to divert me from eating the pile of donuts I had on me, so that was a win. I got a tea to wash it down, which I was also happy with. Other more substantial options await, but the salad itself was well worth coming back for.

Yelp
Now that I've had a matcha latte with peanut milk, I don't think I can ever go back. It was not too sweet, yet creamy, earthy, and nutty. Easy online ordering through the app and free parking on site.

Yelp
Stopped in just before the new year for an afternoon coffee break. Hubby had an iced mocha and I had a warm chai latte. It's a cute little shop, that shares space with a meat market. Lots of specialty products and wine to purchase. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food menu. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Highly recommend making a reservation for the biscuit tower! Plenty of food for 6 people and every accoutrement was absolutely delicious!

Yelp
stopped by with a few friends for a quick lunch and the food was amazing! staff was friendly and we got served quickly. i got the avocado toast with the jammy eggs on the side and it was perf. the sourdough bread was perfectly toasted and avocados were ripe. the eggs were also super yummy. i also got the peanut mocha and was blown away! it wasn't too sweet (which i loved), but i could still taste the nuttiness of the peanuts and it mixed so well with the richness of the mocha. they also had a wide assortment of cheeses, meats, pasta, wine, bread, etc. inside. definitely a place i'd recommend to anyone looking for a small bite to eat in charleston!
