"An outstanding property in a quiet residential section of Ipanema, whose Italian name (“babbo” is a colloquial Italian word for “dad”) provides an insight into the cuisine served here, a fusion of Italian and “carioca” dishes conjured up by chef Elia Schramm. One of the most popular eateries in the area, Babbo Osteria pays homage to the chef's father, and brings childhood memories and family influences to the cooking on offer. One of the dining rooms, decorated with ornaments reminiscent of a traditional Italian “osteria”, provides the backdrop for handmade pasta dishes such as Uova Pepenara (tagliolini served with small cubes of bacon and a creamy soft egg) – the chef's version of the classic carbonara. Babbo Osteria is probably always going to be my favourite Italian restaurant in Rio. We've been about 4 times throughout the years. This time we went twice, because it's just so good. The decor is stunning. The first time, we sat inside upstairs and the second, on the balcony. My favourite dish is their gnocchi with mushrooms and truffles! The waiters are extremely friendly, as always, the food still holds it's quality and the cocktails are amazing! The wine list is also fantastic! It is expensive as every other good restaurant in Rio, but so so worth it and it's also in the Michelin Guide... Never had a bad experience there and I can't wait to go back and eat that gnocchi again!

One of the best dinners we had in Rio. The food was top notch and the service amazing. The space itself is very cosy and welcoming. Everything from the appetizers to the desert was a delight. The servers were very good at recommending dishes based on what we were feeling like and hit the nail on the head each time. Make sure you make a reservation if you want to eat here.

A charming and fancy Italian restaurant, with good service overall. We were warmly welcomed, but we waited long before anyone took our order, and we even had to call someone twice - to give us menus and to take our first order. About the food, all the plates we ordered were very flavoursome, though a bit heavy on the stomach (the gnocchi with truffle sauce and the appetizer with eggplant and cheese, for instance). It’s nice that the waiters grate the cheese before you, so you can say the amount desired; nice experience! Furthermore, the place itself is very traditionally decorated, has a vintage and antique style, which is attractive and cosy. Overall, it’s a good place (a bit expensive, but worth it), but the staff could be a bit more attentive.

I chose to eat here as the panna cotta caught my eye when scrolling through restaurants, if you are in rio and are unsure whether or not to try please do!! i have to say the panna cotta was 10/10 and lovely combination with the sorbet, the service was very good considering it was very busy and thank you to Fernando at the bar for his helpful suggestions, i chose the spaghetti pomodoro with burrata and although a typically basic pasta they elevated it perfectly again 10/10. also loved the ice tea with ginger!

Babbo gets it right. The steak came out exactly how it should — seared hard, tender inside, and full of flavor. The gnocchi was light enough to ruin every heavy version you’ve had before. The Negroni? Cold, clean, perfectly balanced. You can tell whoever’s behind that kitchen actually gives a damn. No gimmicks, no fake charm — just good food done right. Filetto + Negroni. Worth it.

Really good Italian food; all dishes that we ordered were very tasty. There are menu in English although staff don’t speak English. Friendly service. Price is high but reasonable for food quality. Red wine by glasses were good too. Mocktails were plenty and good. Beautiful casa. One of the best meals in Rio for us. Casual and good vibes.
