The 14 Most Iconic Dishes In Houston - Houston - The Infatuation

"Everything here screams, “This is Texas, pard’ner,” especially the chicken fried steak. Only attempt the saddle-blanket-sized “large rancher” portion if you haven’t eaten in two weeks or you’re dining with your horse. Every bite of this milanese country cousin is crunchy, beefy, salty, and swimming in thick country gravy." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi

One of the best fried chickens I have ever had! The 4-piece meal is huge and comes with salad, mashed potatoes, gravy, biscuits, and corn (refillable!). Honestly, it's a lot of food even for 2 people. The price is surprisingly reasonable, which gives us every reason to come back here again and again to support this business. The staff are super friendly. They started to dance and sing at some point, which makes the dining experience unique and fun! And yes, this restaurant is very family-friendly. Parking (free) is also easy to find, even on Saturday night. One thing I wish they had was to-go boxes. For some reason, they only offer plastic bags, and there was no to-go box available. With the huge portion they serve, I would imagine a lot of people would ask for to-go boxes.

Not a typical full service restaurant. All Meals here are served Family style. Featuring fried chicken, chicken fried steak and buttermilk biscuits. The delicious comfort food menu is one of our family favorites. We have been coming here for birthdays and family celebrations for well over a decade. Highly recommended.

Google
The fried chicken more than lives up to expectations. The sides are delicious and the service great! There was a wait but not long and it’s well worth it. They had good music and the staff occasionally entertains.

Google
Best fried chicken in the world! If I was on death row this could be my last meal. Our server Kelsey was upbeat, friendly and attentive. Great place!

Google
BEST chicken fried steak dinner we've had yet! The mashed potatoes and gravy were so smooth and flavorful, too! Our server, Ava, was just so sweet and made sure our drinks stayed full and we had enough food. I just love her - we've had her before and she laughs at our jokes and makes her own with us! It's always a full house over there with a lot going on around us, but she makes it feel like it's just us, laughing and talking in my kitchen. This restaurant feels like home, and every time we go we always say that it was the best yet. The food quality is always consistent, and Miss Ava is always smiling! Thanks Babe's!

Google
If I could give service more than 5 stars, it would be a 10. I knocked over the water glass and most of it landed in my plate. Our server was very nice and quickly brought me a new plate - and 3 extra chicken tenders since that was on my plate. Would be nice to have green beans instead of corn for a more visually appealing meal. A grilled chicken breast would be a nice option over fried or fried. A great place for families and groups with the family style service for sides- mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. The biscuits are the best ever.

I have been ta two Babes locations but was encouraged to visit this, the original, location. It is nestled in the heart of Roanoke and is surrounded by several other restaurants on the ‘main’ street leading directly to City Hall. It is a quaint yet growing area. The decor is pretty cool and reminiscent of an open country barn with exposed rafters and all. In fact the space above houses quite a bit of history as it is used to commemorate employees with long tenures. At the five year mark, you get a placard with your name and years of service. They are placed on rafters facing the door. The rafter spaces with names facing away from the door are for employees with more than ten years of service. It’s pretty cool and our server Michelle had her own mentioning five years, and she is even a year past that now. It’s really nice to see a place that people want to work and stay, and where owners recognize the loyalty. The walls have playful sketches and the support posts are covered with old time intersection direction signs. The menu here is simple: fried chicken or chicken fried steak. Other locations have expanded their menu somewhat but here it is straight up simple. It is worth mentioning they do not even do the green beans here. No worries! We ordered both. The chicken fried steak was pretty good. The fried chicken batch I got seemed a little dry, especially the white meat. I hope this was just a slight over cook and won’t stop me from returning. The intro salad was ultra simple and appropriate so as to not overstuff you. The mashed potatoes were excellent and corn was just fine (plain coated with butter). We even went in for one refill of the mash! The service was great, Michelle was wonderful and informative, and everyone we encountered was extremely friendly. I do make it a point to notice bathrooms if I end up using it, and this place is on the high end of clean, giving you a positive feeling about the kitchen. Overall I’m glad I came to this location to see it, and enjoyed the dinner. I will continue to frequent their locations when given the chance.

If you have never been to Babe's you are missing an essential part of your life. Babe's has hands down some of the best fried chicken in the world. That is a bold statement but eat there one time and I think you will have no choice but to happily agree. The sides compliment and bolster the meal in every way. From the super fluffy and soft biscuits, to their mash potatoes and gravy, and creamed corn you will find yourself asking for two or three refills. Even the salad is simple yet elegant with a sweet house dressing. Now you may ask, how does the service compare to the food? Expect no less from your waiter or waitress they are all polite, timely, and seem to actually enjoy working for Babe's. They do not judge for the amount of chicken and mash potatoes you go to town on and will even offer to get you a biscuit to take home. I don't want to spoil everything as you need to eat there once to soak in the full experience. The only issue with Babe's is you will need to buy a pair of pants a size up from the copious amounts of delicious food you just enjoyed. Enjoy your finger licking chicken induced food coma once you get home as well. The moral of this long winded review is go to your nearest Babe's Chicken as soon as humanly possible and change your life for the better forever!

Yelp
I need the recipe to this salad dressing! It's a simple yet delicious salad. Great portions for the chicken. Unlimited sides. Love the mashed potatoes and the corn. Wish it was still BYOB!

Yelp
When there is only 2 options on the menu - the food is done to perfection every time! Chicken fried steak or fried chicken - bottomless biscuits (which are worth the trip by themselves!), mashed potato, creamed corn, gravy and lettuce salad. Service is fast, efficient and friendly Used to be a BYOB - not anymore . Doesn't really detract from the restaurant tho .

Yelp
The staff were kind and fun! We loved our food and had a great and unique dining experience with friends from out of town.

Yelp
A local mini chain and staple of North Texas, Babes Chicken is a must stop for anyone that likes a real stick to your rib dinner. Served family style, where can you get bottomless sides and great fried chicken for less than $20 a person? Homemade biscuits, Local, honey, crisp salad, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, white gravy, and awesome fried chicken what you need to ask for! Also available is chicken fried steak in lieu of the fried chicken. Formally a BYOB, this is now a no alcohol restaurant, but Local colas and teas are available with your meal. Several locations in the area all have similar ambience, but the original boasts recycle furniture, signage, and all the trimmings. We stopped in on a playoff weekend, so we got seated immediately however you can't expect to wait during peak hours as reservations are not available and tables are first come, first served. A great place for family or group gatherings. Parking in the area can be a little tight so plan accordingly.

Yelp
Hands down, best fried chicken ever. I visited the Babe's Roanoke location as I was in the area and man, I would go back here in a heartbeat. $20/pp, all you can eat salad, cream corn, mash, gravy biscuits, and a whole half chicken. You can't beat it. Chicken was crispy, seasoned and juicy. Sides were great. I felt right at home and it tasted just like how fried chicken tasted like when I was a kid. Place is cute and spacious with many large seatin options. Service was quick and efficient - they only got three things on the menu so no need for a physical menu! If I am back in the DFW area, I would go back here first!

Yelp
If I were to recommend just one place to eat, it's Babe's Chicken. The fried chicken is as good as it gets. The chicken fried steak is fork tender. They also offer other outstanding meat options at their other locations. To order, simply tell the waiter what meat you want. There's no "menu". They'll bring everything out at one time, except for the biscuits and salad which precedes the main course. The side dishes are served family style, and they are all you can eat. You won't have to ask for refills on the sides nor the drinks. Service is that good. In case you're so inclined, they are BYOB. My wife loves their biscuits. They have honey and sorghum on the tables. The ambiance is fun Texas casual. This restaurant is southern comfort food. On your short list, make this #1.

Yelp
One of the best Fried Chicken in Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. They have many locations but the original Roanoke is the best. Both crispy fried chicken and services. I have been eating at this location for more than 20 years. Their chicken is fresh and juicy inside, crispy outside. They used to have only babe's girls but now there're base's guys which is nice and excellent services including dancing line. It's very nice atmosphere with fancy decorative chicken coops.

Yelp
My partner & I always love babes. We tend to get a chicken fried steak & tenders. She'll have a tender or two (save the rest of a lunch the following as reheating the tenders in a toaster oven is lovely) I'll eat 1/2 of my CFS & heat the rest the next morning with some eggs fro breakfast. I haven't even gotten to HOW AMAZING the corn / mashed potatoes are. We tend to always get AT LEAST 3 refills of each. It's such a personal location. Week nights are such a good time to go. We will always continue to come back.

Yelp
We've been going to this babe's location since it was the only one around. I've not lost any of the fun features inside, but have continued to evolve and improve things like parking and waiting and to go areas. Wish they had handicap parking a little more accessible to the door. My nephew and his whole family traveled from Texarkana to DFW specifically for his birthday. He remembers it from his childhood and enjoyed the entire event. Service was wonderful, even though we had a large group, and the restaurant was of course crowded. The food as always was hot fresh and spectacular! Most of us had the fried chicken but a couple had the chicken fried steak. I always order the fried chicken but it's my goal to one day. Skip the chicken and have the chicken fried steak, but I'm not sure if that will ever happen! The chicken is just wonderful. We have also been to the locations in Burleson Carrollton North Richland Hills. Each one of them have a little bit different menu, but I still like the old-school Roanoke restaurant the best! All of them still serve everything family style. So great! HOWEVER, it is no longer BYOB! They don't have a bar, beer or wine (oh my!). We didn't know this had changed and came packing with a cooler of beer we had to leave in the car. They serve water, tea, sodas, and lemonade.

Yelp
Smaller and smaller Chicken fried steak each year - Tourist trap and not worth the money anymore - It's just not the same anymore - SAD

Yelp
Dakota was our server and he was very good. Engaging and polite. Now to rating my lunch of Chicken Fried steak served family style- Amazingly tender, tasty and practical. Creme style corn, mashed potatoes, milk gravy and homemade biscuits. We are in the cutest town, Roanoke.

Yelp
A staple for us when we're in Texas. Babe's Restaurant has a family-style menu centered around comfort food classics. Among its offerings are delicious chicken fried steak and crispy fried chicken, both staples that evoke home-cooked goodness. Complementing these main dishes are delectable sides such as creamy corn, velvety mashed potatoes and gravy, and flaky biscuits that melt in your mouth. We're getting extra gravy immediately.

Yelp
We've lived in Roanoke, Texas for Tweenty-five years. Over that time we've watch the decline of a local favorite. What used to be a meal almost to big to finish is now almost not worth trying to finish. A decline in portion size i can almost get on-board with, the quality has fallen to instant potatos and lack luster flavor. A meal for two is now $75.00 and just not worth the trip. It really saddens me to write this review, but facts are stubborn things.

Yelp
Food is amazing come here multiple times and it never disappoints. Chicken fried steak is the best.

Yelp
Still great food, love the cane sugar soda they offer now, awesome service. BEWARE (those with kids/grazing plate users): Why did I take off a star? We have a 4 year old who doesn't eat much, so we usually just give her bits of our food off our plate. I understand that they need to make money here, so I'm fine paying a small fee for an empty plate to share our food. I'm not ok with the fact it's 10.99. A child's meal is 7.69. This should be expressed because or 4 year old ate maybe 6 small cut up bites of our chicken and was done. I would have rather gotten a kids meal and had leftovers for tomorrow.

Yelp
Yummy!!! Babe's Chicken rarely disappoints. Great food and fun atmosphere. Get extra biscuits and take them home!!!

Yelp
Love coming here to the Carrollton location during the week when there aren't big parties or too crowded. All the sides and fried chicken are always great. There wasn't any singing or dancing this last time we went, but maybe no one was celebrating a B-Day?

Yelp
In my experiences through the years, if you are craving goooood fried chicken or some southern cornmeal battered catfish, you can't go wrong with Babe's. My 1st time trying it was as contraband when my sister snuck some in for me after a major surgery in a nearby hospital when I woke up with a craving for catfish. I know that is blasphemy to some when they are known for their chicken but I wouldn't change a thing. Now I know they don't just do fried chicken well! If you are familiar with Babe's or have looked at the menu, you know the choices are fairly limited but what they do, they tend to do quite well. From the entrees, the sharing sides to the desserts, you will likely be craving it again before too long. It is a wide open restaurant styled very much like some of the small, local restaurants you find dotted along the way from Texas to Colorado and west along the Gold Rush routes. With it's open floor plan and fairly close seating, decorated with aged looking "buildings" along the walls and raw wooden 4'x4' beams scattered throughout the dining room, it invites conversation and fun between tables and parties. If you are a social person wanting some tasty southern food, this is always a solid choice! TIP: It would get 5 stars from me but for a couple of details that I had to learn on a curve about ordering the fried catfish and togo food: 1. Order the catfish lightly fried for a not overly crispy filet or you lose a lot of great fish to it being overly fried on the edges as opposed to being perfectly juicy throughout. If you are one of the many who like the extra crispy edges that tend to make fish in that part of the breading a bit chewy (I know a lot of folks who do) then ordering it as-is should be perfect. 2. When you get a togo order here.... Always double check the entire order before you leave! I suppose I have been a little spoiled by places that double and triple check take out before bringing it to you, but I consider that part of quality service for any place that offers takeout. They have always offered to correct my orders but with an hour round trip to pick up food here they have instead credited my bill for missing items when I call. Unfortunately, this mishap can ruin an otherwise lovely evening when someone doesn't get their entree so that doesn't quite make up for the time to get a replacement entree somewhere closer, nor account for the tip on items left out.

Yelp
I love Babe's Chicken but haven't been to this original location in quite a few years. I was pleasantly surprised by some of the updates to the restaurant such as better lighting and updated restrooms. The food was as delicious as always. I'm glad they have added chicken tenders to the menu.
google avatar

Yelp
A little chicken in the morning makes for an excellent breakfast. I have never been here before and I loved the ambiance. On the ceiling are previous employees with the time they spent working here. Harley our server gave a tip sheet and history of the place, which I really enjoyed it. All furniture came from other restaurants that closed. They serve three items: fried chicken , chicken tenders, chicken fried steak and unlimited sides: corn, mash potatoes and gravy. All were very delicious and crispy. Be warned, if you have left over sides, no containers were given only a plastic bag.

Linda Truckenmiller T.

Yelp
The ambiance was so fun and cheerful! Besides the amazing food, our server Sadie displayed excellent quality's of attentiveness and tended to our every needs. Very happy with our visit to babes and will be coming back very soon!

Yelp
Comfort food at its best- that's Babe's. But to be honest, if you weren't expecting the large side orders that Babe's is known for, you'd be slightly disappointed. The fried chicken is like everyone else's, with so-so taste (no seasoning whatsoever). For $17.99 for essentially a plate of four fried chicken pieces and sides, I don't know about that. The menu seems to be somewhat limited in food choices. Not only that, but there isn't any beer or other alcohol served here. Strictly BYOB. I thought it was funny when my server indicated that I could run to the local gas station and bring a six pack in. Ummmm, yeah. Ok. The customer service is really good here- no issues at all with this one, as I found every employee to have high enthusiasm and the vibe that they enjoyed working here. The tables are really packed in somewhat tight, which makes you feel you are right up on someone when you are getting up or sitting down. Somewhat darker than usual with the lighting during the afternoon/evening hours, and the music is loud, loud, LOUD! But there is a high energy vibe here nonetheless. Overall, Babe's isn't so bad, sans the beer & alcohol. I thought for the price, the food quality would be on another level of excellence. It was just okay, if you are a fan of mashed potatoes, biscuits, and sweet corn.

Yelp
Babe's... I love ya, I really do. However, you've gotten insanely expensive. Family of 4, one kid meal... Basically, 1.75 chickens, plus corn and potatoes. I'm a restaurant veteran and know food/labor/rent cost very well... Y'all are gouging. Coupled with no more BYOB... Nope. $81 before tip. That's nuts! Sorry.

Yelp
Take out this time. Chicken was just as good at our hotel. Everything was packed perfectly. Very friendly atmosphere.

Yelp
This place rocks! Excellent all around experience. We came in for lunch on Monday. We're seated right away. Our waitress brought us some delicious hot biscuits with butter and honey and a tossed iceberg lettuce salad,. We ordered the fried chick and the sides included were mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. Everything was flavorful, fresh and delicious. Our waitress was awesome too! Zero complaints. Can't wait to return. They also sell their honey, hats, t-shirts...oh you can also buy biscuits to go for 99 cents!
google avatar

Shelley M.

Yelp
I have been hearing about Babes for years so maybe my expectations were too high. The fried chicken was really good however the rest of the meal was not. The salad was a bowl of iceberg lettuce that came dressed with a very sweet, watery dressing, the mashed potatoes were gummy, the biscuits were tasteless and the gravy was also flavorless. Everything but the chicken was served at room temp. I will not be back.

Yelp
We loved our experience at Babe's in Roanoke, Texas. We arrived at 4:30 pm On Friday afternoon in order to avoid waiting in line. They do not take reservations!! We walked right in as they had just opened and were seated near the back . We had a sweet waitress take care of us. I had the bone in chicken and my husband had the chicken friend steak. With the order comes salad, a biscuit, your entree, and unlimited mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. We ate everything except one piece of chicken, which I took home. There are no to go containers for the unlimited sides. They do not offer dessert but the waitress told us we could consider the pie place next door. As we paid and left a bit after 5 pm, ( as you can see we were served quickly and the food came quickly ) there were people seated out in front outside waiting to be called inside. So get there early or wait in line. Are we going again? You bet!!

Yelp
This was our first visit to Babe's at the recommendation of coworkers. The concept and experience is definitely one to try. We experienced the Roanoke location which had a neat atmosphere with the historic downtown buildings that carried to the decor in the restaurant. The service was very welcoming and engaging. We didn't know beforehand there are only four menu options (one being vegetarian) and the meats are all fried. It didn't stop us from jumping right in. Starting off with the all you can eat fresh biscuits and salad (basic lettuce and dressing) was easy to do and yet hard to stop eating so we'd have room for the other food. The biscuits were hot and the available butter and honey made them the highlight of our meal. For the main dish, I went with the chicken tenders. They had a good balance of breading and the flavor was delicious. The actual size of the pieces of chicken were on the smaller side. My husband had the chicken fried steak. The flavor was delicious, however, there was more breading than meat. The all you can eat sides that come with the main meal are pretty simple and served family style with corn, mashed potatoes and gravy. An unexpected part of our experience was when one of the servers belted out a song for everyone's enjoyment. She had a great voice!

Yelp
I last visited the Roanoke Babe's two years ago with my sis and BIL on the way to some airport in the area where they had left their airplane. That was my first visit to Babe's in surely close to 30 years. We all were blown away. My sis and BIL declared this to be the best fried chicken they've had since Hopkin's Boarding House (which served family style like Babe's) in Pensacola , closed years ago. Yesterday was, again, so great... perfectly seasoned and super crisply fried chicken. The breast portion was tender and moist throughout the entire piece. The mashed potatoes are rich and flavorful and the corn is likewise so tasty. The meal is served with a biscuit for each diner. My biscuit got two pats of butter and prolly half the pitcher of the sorghum syrup. LOL. So good! We brought a bubbly, which is a great compliment to fried chicken, and our own glasses. Babe's is BYOB friendly. The meal begins with a very simple super-chilled iceberg lettuce salad that is dressed with a lovely light, sweet vinaigrette. Really, really good. Our server offered us more salad but as tempting as that was I knew that would be unwise in light of what fare would soon belabor the table. We also, thanks to one reviewer's comments, brought a bunch of take home containers for the potatoes, corn, gravy and chicken as the restaurant does not provide these (save for a plastic bag for chicken) and we knew we'd be taking a lot home. Which leads me to my one wish for the store. Being old timers we have small appetites. We each could finish only one piece of the four pieces served to each diner. Of course this leaves lots to take home for subsequent meals, but fried chicken is at its best freshly fried and piping hot. I wish Babe's would offer a senior's sized portion meal appropriate for old timers. But all in all the price for the four piece meal with salad, potatoes, gravy, corn and biscuits is super reasonable. If you're a fan of the fried yard bird, this is some mighty fine fare here in a cool, old Texas feel venue with attentive and gracious service!

Yelp
Good night home cookin' doesn't really get better than this! Had the Fried Chicken and Chicken Fried Streak (thank goodness my friend shared!). You order what you want, then they bring it all with all the fixings to your table like you would at home. Drop it in the middle and dig in. The sweet tea is good. It's not Georgia sweet, so if that's your thing, just be aware. The chicken was moist and tender. The seasoning flavor was all the way into the flesh of the meat which I really appreciated. Often times, it's just in the skin or the crust that has the flavor, and once you eat past that it's just chicken. Not so here! Parking can be spotty in this area, there is some street parking and a small lot nearby. But be prepared to look for a spot. With some fantastic restaurants all in the row, parking is busy. If you're in the area and have a hankering for fried chicken or chicken fried steak, make sure to stop by. It's worth the wait. And if you enjoy adult beverages, keep in mind it's BYOB. There is a service center down the street you can pick up some beer, but it's good to be prepared either way.

Charlotte C.

Yelp
Well here is another wonderful restaurant that is now a franchise Went to original site All the chairs match Cream corn lost Biscuit lost Potatoes marginal Managers dead on arrival Will not go back Will try just north site It's all about money now What a loss

Yelp
Always a great food experience at the original Babe's location in downtown Roanoke. There is a reason for the wait to be seated and it's the awesome chicken fried steak and the chicken fried chicken. We have always received great service which adds to the charm of the rustic homestyle feel. We will return !

Yelp
I heard Babe's Chicken was a staple when visiting the Fort Worth area and had to give it a try! Felt a bit silly asking for a menu and having the waiter respond: we have fried chicken (4 pieces), chicken tenders (7 pieces), and a chicken fried steak! Nothing makes my job easier than limited choices! Our table got one of each menu item. Personally, too much food for all of us, I wish you were able to opt for fewer pieces to reduce food waste. Each table was also served a side of biscuits, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad. Although the salad was just iceberg lettuce and dressing........it was delicious! Easily could've eaten the whole bowl plus more! Will definitely be back next time I am in town. Thanks Babe's!

Carol W.

Yelp
A legendary establishment in Roanoke. My out of town guests always have this on their list of places to go. Love the chicken, but the chicken fried steak and the corn are my guilty pleasures. Friendly staff and service. Love the rustic decor. Expect a line.

Yelp
This was such a cool place to eat. The food and service were superb. So glad it was recommenced.

Yelp
Best fried chicken and chicken strips and a great family atmosphere. It's a place I take family every time they come to visit
google avatar

Yelp
Oh Babe's....y. Where to start... Babe's is phenomenal. We'll just get that out of the way. Babe's offers only three main entrees - fried chicken, chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Additionally, you split family style all you can eat sides - salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn. You can't go wrong with any of it. It's iconic and busy for a reason and worth every penny. If you're in the Roanoke area, it's a must.

Yelp
The chicken here is always good. Today was a business luncheon with about 12 other employees. They opened at 1100 and that's when we arrived, yet they weren't completely ready for patrons yet. They were kind enough to combine some tables, I unfortunately got the wobbly one. If you've never been to Babes chicken, there ins't a menu. You order whatever meats they serve, this location is fried chicken, chicken strips, or chicken fried steak. The fried chicken is good, the order includes half a chicken. The chicken fried steak, which is what I ordered, is usually fairly large. Today was an exception, it didn't' cover the plate like ones I've had in the past at other locations. Usually when the food is served, it's served with the meat on a single plate per person, today this was almost buffet style since there was so many of us. They brought two large oval plates, one full of fried chicken, the other full of chicken strips and 5 or 6 chicken fried steaks. It was a lot of meat. The only sides they serve at this location, which are all endless bowls, was mashed potatoes, gravy, corn pudding, salad, and biscuits. Other locations will have okra and green beans, not this one. The sides are endless, but the bowls they come in are very small. Basically salad bowls, not serving bowls that can feed 12 hungry men, much less a family of four. For us, they had to reflll the bowls several times rather than bring extra bowls from the beginning. Staff was friendly. Manager even checked on us. But the time we left around 1230 it was getting full. This location is small compared to other locations. The wait staff mentioned that this location is the original spot, it does look like an older building. Very good experience, decent food.

Yelp
We stopped at Babe's on our way home from a weekend in Dallas. What a GEM this is, full of history, friendly staff, and wonderful fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and biscuits! The meal is simple and has not changed since the restaurant (this original location) first opened it's doors, other than adding chicken tenders for the kids. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
Great service and such a cute vibe inside. The food was fresh and sides were replenished promptly. I brought several children with me and the server was so helpful by giving advice on how to NOT buy a full order of meat for each child (which would have been way too much food and very expensive). I have been to several Babes, and besides the carrollton livation, this is my next favorite!

Yelp
Enjoyed a big family dinner. Great fried chicken and chicken tenders. This place is a crowd favorite, and the chicken was really tasty. Our waitress was nice, even as a larger table, and a full house. Not really a fan of how they are setup without a menu. It's simple, it works, but don't go there if you aren't hungry, aren't in love with mashed potatoes and creamed corn, or staying where you can't/wont keep leftovers. Super easy to get food for a big party, only 2 decisions: drink, and pick 1 of 3 meats. I think our family over paid considering we didn't want the huge pile of leftover chicken, and only had one bowl of lettuce, 3 bowls of mashed potatoes, half a bowl of corn, and waisted most of the bowl of gravy. We wouldn't have eaten as many biscuits as we did, but we had to pay for them anyway, and we grabbed more at the end for the mountain of leftovers Its only 2 different prices. Full price around $17-18 if you order your own chicken, or reduced price $10-11 if you share chicken with someone else. My wife and I were initially going to split a 4 piece (plenty enough), but the up charge for unlimited iceberg drenched in dressing, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, biscuits and gravy was to the point, might as well get the chicken tenders for later. It's 100% family style. The unlimited sides come in bowls and the chicken all comes out on a big platter. The bone in chicken was all on one side of the pile. We had 7 adults and a toddler, didn't order anything extra, and we had so much left over.....2 full plastic bags of tenders. Legit enough to feed us all again. The next day 2 people had chicken biscuits for breakfast. Then we covered an entire pizza pan front to back with tenders to have as a side for a big party that night, to go with our pizza. We got sweet baby rays buffalo wing sauce for dipping to kick it up a notch when sealed the deal. Several people said they liked them on day 2, which I reheated in the oven. 10-12 people had tenders, including one that had a pile, and a couple that had seconds.

Yelp
The Babe's in Roanoke is the original location. Excellent food (as always) but this location doesn't serve green beans. They have everything else- but alas, no green beans. It's only for that reason that I give them 4 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
Food was absolutely AMAZING! The biscuits and other sides were wonderful. The chicken though is the star of the show. Hit, moist and juicy. If I had a small criticism, the breading on the chicken while it had a great consistency and crunch was a bit salty. Overall a fantastic experience. Our waiter was awesome. Very attentive service.

Yelp
If you are into fried chicken you can't miss with Babe's. The menu is basic. The choices are what they are. There's no changes to any of the dishes. That's cool though because it's great just like it comes. As a result less waiting time and less stress. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is fine. Think Cracker Barrel without all the junk.

Yelp
Although the fried chicken is great, I wish it wasn't too salty. Overall it's pretty good.

Yelp
Service was okay all the ladies that worked there spent more time huddled in a group having a yap session there was a table right by us that took forever to be greeted and helped this is not the babes I remember at all. The ambiance is gone. The food was also okay. Chicken tenders more like chicken minis if you're going to charge almost 20$ for some chicken tenders that looked like when they were alive they were starved and make the chicken fried steak smaller cut the price. It was all okay at best which is very disappointing because the place used to have the best service everyone was doing their jobs and not huddled in a corner giggling while there were tables to be taken care of. I hope that things improve here.

Yelp
So fun! Crazy busy place but worth the wait for great southern comfort eats and drinks! Served family style and only 3 mains. Fried chicken (leg, breast, and thigh), fried chicken tenders, and Chicken fried steak. All are served with a yummy large salad, fresh hot biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy and southern cream style corn. Remember, family style so you serve yourself the sides you'd like with your entree choice. If you leave hungry, that's on you!!! You'll enjoy Texas decor and if your timing is good, you'll be treated to the staff line dancing to a song in which you are free to join in! Chicken Fried Steak, Chicken Strips, Deep Fried Chicken

Yelp
Huge portions of three items-fried chicken, chicken-fried steak and chicken fingers. I would say these are standard American fare. There are a few features that distinguishes Babes. First is the country-style atmosphere which together with the friendly wait staff makes this a welcoming place. I like the biscuits and their homemade honey mustard dressing. They give a generous amount of dressing. Finally, their old-style sodas are a delight.
