The Best Hotels in Copenhagen, From a Boutique Urban Retreat to a Repurposed Brewery

"More Copenhagen hotels we recommend Located near Kastellet, a 17th-century fortress, the 98-room Babette Guldsmeden—part of the Guldsmeden Hotels collection—is a quirky, eco-friendly property that, much like the rest of the portfolio, fuses Scandinavian and Indonesian design sensibilities. The decor is a real blend—Oriental rugs, shells dangling from curtains, white bath tiles, stone sinks—but somehow the motley approach works. Wood floors and wingback chairs add to the homey, oasis-like vibe." - Lauren Jade Hill

Babette Guldsmeden

"What's the story here?Located near Kastellet, a 17th-century fortress, the 98-room Babette Guldsmeden—part of the Guldsmeden Hotels collection—is a quirky, eco-friendly property that, much like the rest of the portfolio, fuses Scandinavian and Indonesian design. Does that extend to the rooms? All of the rooms (except for those with slanted ceilings) have four-poster beds topped with sheepskin throws and draped in billowing fabrics that nod to Southeast Asia. The decor is a real blend—Oriental rugs, shells dangling from curtains, white bath tiles, stone sinks—but somehow the motley approach works. Wood floors and wingback chairs add to the homey, oasis-like vibe. Are there any good food options on site?Brick-walled Bar’bette, the onsite organic restaurant, is a relaxed hangout. Order beetroot carpaccio or pan-fried cod, or simply sink into a Chesterfield with a glass of bubbly. Say we need a pause from all the touristing—where should we go on the hotel premises?Warm up after a brutally cold day of sightseeing in the sauna and steam bath, both located on the hotel's rooftop terrace. When the weather is pristine, there are several outdoor perches; snag a seat on the front terrace or in the greenery-laden Orangerie. With comfy lounge furniture, the glassed-in courtyard, meanwhile, is another lovely hideaway." - Alia Akkam

The Babette Guldsmeden is one of the most charming hotels we have stayed in, in one of the most amazing cities in the world! It is a gorgeous property that embodies "hygge" with its stylish and cosy rooms and furnishings, its eco-friendly philosophy and its Scandinavian roots. We had a Junior Suite which was thoughtfully appointed with everything we needed during our week-long stay. It had a spacious living area as well as a bedroom with a lovely four-poster bed. The bathroom was also big with both a bathtub and shower, and a rustic feel. We loved the bathrobes and the toiletries provided which can be purchased at the reception. Breakfast was provided at the Skagen restaurant and we enjoyed the simple but delicious Danish fare in a lush green secluded courtyard. Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, and the rooftop terrace is a wonderful bonus which we enjoyed on most afternoons. The Marmorkirken metro station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel, as is the Langelinie promenade where you can while away an evening in comfy chairs overlooking the sea. We absolutely loved our stay at the Babette (and in Copenhagen!) and would go back again in a heartbeat. If there is one thing that can be improved its the storage (only a small cupboard is provided and no drawers) and the countertop space in the bathroom is limited. The suite also overlooks the road so there is a bit of noise from the traffic. That did not bother us at all and we slept soundly but for light-sleepers, a room facing the back would be preferable.

I am currently staying at the Babette and it is a well appointed hotel with in large pleasant staff in a great location. However…||I had booked two double rooms for me and my daughter. However, on comparing both rooms one was at least a metre wider, has a wardrobe and comfy chair that was absent from the smaller room. Suffice to say that the room featured on the website is the bigger version. ||On raising the matter with reception the pleasant young man told me that the hotel was an old building and not all the rooms were the same - this I understand but the price should therefore reflect the differences. He did offer to move me the following day but having unpacked and ironed and with a busy day ahead I really didn’t want the hassle. I asked him to raise the matter with the manager and revert by the morning - which he promised to do. ||By the following evening I’d heard nothing so raised the matter with a different receptionist. He looked on the system and told me my complaint had been “noted”! Again I was offered a move the next day - and again I’d rather but out seeing Copenhagen than moving rooms. ||I eventually got an email from the manager later evening - despite asking that she called me. She said that the smaller room had been “carefully selected” so that I was near my daughter and on the quieter side of the hotel - neither of which had been requested and that “compensation” was not appropriate. To me it’s a bit like having ordered two Mercedes but the garage deciding they think it’s best to give you a Mercedes and a Golf as they think that’s best but still charging you the price of two Mercs! ||The hotel chain seems to pride itself on its ethics but this plainly doesn’t extend to the honesty and transparency of its pricing policy. I had not requested compensation but simply pay a fair price for the room I had been given.||Deeply unimpressed by the attitude of the manager.

Enjoyed this hotel. Ideal location. Had a nice view of the park area outside our room. Close to restaurants and nice walks including a stroll to the little mermaid. Next to the design museum which is well worth seeing. Rooms are comfortable. Nice breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.

Google
Really impressed. Rooms are well appointed, staff are friendly and the location is good. My only negatives would be that we would believe from photos that all family rooms have a balcony and this is not the case, indeed with the lower floor that we were on it doesn't have a balcony and is directly above a smoking area. The lack of air-conditioning means closing the windows is not an option.

Google
Charming, boutique hotel in a fabulous location for exploring Copenhagen. The suite we had was perfect for our family of three. The rooms are beautifully decorated and finished, with nice touches thrown in like the bathrobes and eco products. We would definitely stay here again when returning to the city.

Google
Staff was VERY nice. They (Camilla) helped us get settled after a long flight from the US arriving before check in. Breakfast was pretty good, mostly vegetarian but still a good buffet. Everything seems to be high quality. Our room was pretty cramped so there's a lot of walking sideways to get around but it did look like other rooms were better set up. Pillows were terrible though for those sensitive sleepers. The location was really good and there's are nice amenities like parking (limited) and umbrellas.

Worst hotel IMO. NOISY SURROUNDING AND IN HOTEL. SUB PAR 3 STAR SERVICE ( with confronting staff) Edit: the hotel probably hidden the review about fake view and blood stained sheets.as i can't find it anymore. More evidence of review manipulation Hotel staff is ignorant towards the problems and says guest did not tell them. It's word for word when they only 1 staff tending to almost 100 rooms at night. ( imagine staff being rude where no camera is present and you're to blame) Just got confronted by the staff about a review about fake review. She insists that the reviews on google are not fake. Then argues with me that the noisy surrounding is my own choice of room. It shows how the hotel probably have fake reviews if the staff is so defensive and ask guest if they left the review saying they have fake reviews. It is an Understaffed hotel, with 1 reception for almost 100 rooms at night. NO Air -Conditioning. FAKE reviews. Staff said ' the hotel is just not a match' when i complained about their inability to provide service or inform guests about the noise. It is astounding how proud they are about their level of service that is far below an OYO hotel chain. Providing sub par service and saying 'it's just not a right match' ; feels like a legalized scam, when they can just say 'oh i don't hear that noise' or ' the staff said you didn't inform him' .AVOID if you want good service and actual 4 star hotel.

Google
A beautiful hotel with such thoughtful details. We loved our stay. Only negative was that although I booked side by side rooms, for some reason they assumed only one guest. Not sure why you would book two rooms for one guest?? Also, would be great to have more info on the bucket over the bath on the rooftop. Adored using the rooftop facilities. I wish all hotels were as environmentally conscious as this one. It was charming. Especially strolling to the Little Mermaid at night, sans the crowds.

Yelp
Great hotel, great stay with a few minuses. The Babette is one of a few hotels around Scandinavia and other few in Germany/ ICeland all based on their green/ sustainable practices. First, the hotel is located on a great neighborhood in Copenhagen close to everything you want to see as a tourist. There is a food market across the street and a metro station a couple blocks away. The hotel is a boutique hotel and even though there were some people checking in when we arrived, we were checked in pretty fast and our room was ready for us. The bar/ lobby area is small but well thought out. There are cool and comfy chairs with small rugs for warmth in the winter. The restaurant is to the side and the orangerie was a plus. Beautiful, cozy area full of hygge for Danish and tourist alike. It's warm in the winter as it is enclosed and full of lanterns and plants where you can enjoy a drink or dinner. We didn't try the breakfast as it was outrageously expensive! ( as it later everything in Copenhagen), but with so many great restaurants in CPH there's no reason to. The room was great. We had a small suite and we loved it. Complete with seating area, a desk, Apple computer, nice bathroom with tub and shower and 4 post bed representative of their Balinese style it was a great respite after a day of walking around and exploring the capital city. The only minuses I can think of are that the room doesn't have AC , ( but it was the winter so not needed) and that the room faced a street and a park. Even though the last days of the years there was not a lot of traffic and it was quiet, after the 3rd of January we could definitely hear the traffic firm the street so we kept the windows closed. In the summer, however, I could see how this could pose a problem. Another issue was the hair dryer: obviously you have to was your hair, and it was the winter so no way I could go out with my hair wet in the cold so drying was needed. What I didn't get is that damn dryer!! It was small and it had only one button which you had to keep pressing and couldn't let go of in order to keep the dryer on! So your finger would get tired obviously and the dryer would keep turning off. So on/ off, on/off, on/off.... you get the idea... that's a lot of power consumption! Not very green or sustainable is it now??? Another minus would be the front desk people. I did find the Danes a bit cold and standofish but front desk people need to be nicer to clients. The bartenders at the bar by the lobby however were super nice The roof top spa access was included with the small suite so we took advantage of it. In the winter roof top is closed but I can't imagine a lot of people there in the summer as it is quite small. Cute though! Good view The sauna and steam room were nice and there was only a couple people there so it was perfect for us. There's also a cold water bucket but it was way too cold to try that. Overall a great stay, would stay here again in the same room. We had a great time!

Yelp
Fantastic boutique hotel. Wonderful location in an amazing city. Get an upper floor suite with a balcony. We loved this eco friendly gem of a hotel and would definitely return. Close walk to everyone and a great vibe to the place. Excellent staff & friendly service! Thanks for an enjoyable time in Copenhagen!

Yelp
i normally don't write yelp reviews, however, i felt compelled after my recent stay at Babette Guldsmeden. i tried my best to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt during my stay. i was willing to overlook the extremely small (cozy?) accommodations that at best fit a twin size bed (maybe my booking agent thought she was getting me a great deal?). i ignored the sub par food (my fault as i ordered at the bar?); the lonely chicken breast + oddly tangy burrata salad doing a well enough job as i was exhausted from my travel day. Overall the location of the hotel was lovely (right next to a park) and they're eco friendly (although could have benefited from using reusable cups instead of disposable paper). what i can't overlook, however, was the response of the receptionist when i called to report that my iphone was missing from the bag i had left in the hotel's storage locker. i asked if i had left it in my room ('no one has reported anything + we have finished our cleaning service') and again if it had fallen out in the luggage locker ('i checked and there's nothing'). He informed me simply that 'this sounds like a pick pocket situation'. his blasé attitude toward the situation makes me think that this either has happened in the past, or he just didn't care. shame on me for forgetting the phone was in the bag in the first place, however, in a city safe enough to not lock your bike up in the street at night, i didn't think twice (clearly) about leaving an iphone 7 in my bag unattended in a locked luggage room for 3 hours. i had an off feeling about the hotel ever since i arrived but truly wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt as i absolutely loved my time in Copenhagen and wish to return for longer. when i do, however, i most definitely will not be staying at this hotel and i would suggest others do not as well.

Yelp
As it was raining badly, just after going to the Little Mermaid, we decided to have a "drink" (understand Beer for the boyfriend) in the Brasserie Babette, the bar under the Guldsmeden hotel. The setting is just super cute, design and danish. We sat at the bar and ordered a Little Mermaid's Kiss, a rhubarb cobbler and Rhubarb Mojito for me and a beer for the Boyfriend. Although the waitress forgot about the Mermaid's Kiss, the mojito was just amaziiiiing and when we finally got the cake, it was really really good (and she didn't make us pay, which is really good customer service). Overall, a cute little spot, just in front of the Churchill Park and not overly priced for Copenhagen.

Yelp
Go to Spotify and hook up to the Guldsmeden playlists. If you are a music freak I think this is one of the best playlists ever. Let me know. This is the best thing I take way from my visit to CPH. Onward.....Did I luck out. Somehow I picked the perfect hotel for me for my CPH visit. It is the best "bulls eye" location EVeR; it just cannot be beat. Whichever direction you go from this location, you will find all and everything good, much within walking distance. A couple of museums around the corner, the Metro, the train station, the best shopping and bars, the queens castle, historical buildings all around, Magasin, the Mermaid and her sister just a lovely walk through this amazingly beautiful park filled with statues, waterfalls and daunting views in every direction including canals , +, all which await you. The lovely Christine upgraded my room after four days cause I told her I was getting a crook in my neck for being in one of the "attic" rooms where you have to slant your neck to shower and to safely move around. She then appointed me to a beautiful room overlooking Churchill park for the rest of my stay; that surely made up for things. Get a room with the park view. I often stood there and looked out and with the cool breezes at night and being tucked in a feather bed made it a lovely combination for good sleep. Watching the snow blanket the park and the city made me feel so good. I still have the smell from there on some of my unwashed clothes and it makes me feel as though I am still in CPH when I close my eyes. The are known for their organic food and also offer raw dishes at the morning buffet (you would never know it is so good). This meal will fill you up for the day. I took a few pieces of the fantastic bread with me so I can enjoy a little munchie in the afternoon. It's a cozy little place and was alright, alright, alright for me for the whole duration of my stay. Elizabeth squeezed me in for an extended stay even though it was becoming fashion week. I love her. It is a sustainable hotel which I love about it. Bamboo toothbrushes, toilet paper and napkins which you can eat, windmill driven power, organic q=tips and safe cotton make up removing pads and wood floors etc. The rooftop spa is a wonderful plus and one should try to fit in this relaxing " chore" each day. All of the staff couldn't do more for you, even holding the elevator door open. The New York Times is available each morning. There were a few glitches that happened which are not really worth mentioning. They happen everywhere. The PARAMOUNT thing about this place is the music which is pumped into this hotel (REPEATED COMMENT). When I couldn't sleep I would go and sit in their cozy sofas and read the New York Times and super enjoy listening to their stream of music. When I go back to CPH, I will not hesitate to revisit the Babette and see all my friends there again. Can't beat the value for the price. Best thing ever..your COCIO fix is available just a few steps away right across the street . P.S. Don't forget to tip...it's the nice thing to do for a staff that goes out of their way to please.

Yelp
Very small rooms (barely fits a bed), rugs in the hallway that make you trip up and your luggage get stuck (I mean, seriously... did they not realize guests would be hauling luggage that would get caught on the rugs?), poor food quality (chicken was very raw in the middle), and is extremely expensive, without the quality. Stay somewhere else.

Yelp
I booked a Suite here for myself and my boyfriend. i have to say it was exactly what I expected! The location is smack in the center and across from a beautiful park. Room: Spacious actually very spacious for a European hotel..quick tip bring conditioner! They offer shampoo but no conditioner which was a bummer. The room was beautiful, I loved how authentic it was. I would absolutely stay here again. Service: Everyone was so friendly and great! They have a bar downstairs and everyone was just so friendly! The staff was so friendly and provided a map so we could have a great time in Copenhagen!

Yelp
Good place & nice comfortable rooms, but some rooms are too small. Compare to cost and comfort bit pricey

Yelp
We came here for some light lunch after seeing the Little Mermaid statue. I really wanted to give this place five stars because the decor is striking, the concept cool and the food good quality at a reasonable price. However I think they need to tighten up a few things on the training side for the server that we had. She just seemed a bit aloof and like she felt she was too cool to be there generally, but more specifically was a bit rude at a couple of points. The main one was that she didn't offer us to select from the choices aligned to our dishes (e.g. which bread for the panini, which sauce for the side), but then when we realised we didn't select later on and asked her, she quite sharply said that we should have said. She never came back to give us the bill either. In the end we got up and paid at reception.

Yelp
I ate a light lunch at the restaurant, did not stay at the hotel. It was a GORGEOUS sunny 70 degree Friday in Copenhagen, and everyone was out in the parks, sunning on the canals and generally in a grand mood. Our first day I. Copenhagen we were exploring and a bit jet lagged and decided to stop in for a late light lunch. We shared a Pig and Goat Panini which was Prosciutto and Goat Cheese. It was the perfect small bite we were looking for. And did I mention the hand cut fries? They were delicious as well. All from an organic, green local sourced restaurant. Top it off with a local Copenhagen beer that we loved so much we went and visited the brewery!

Carter P.

Yelp
Great boutique hotel. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The bar and restaurant has excellent food and friendly staff. I'll be back.

Diego P.

Yelp
Very nice with a extreme Green lifestyle / organic theme. Room is comfortable however the price is rather high in my opinion for the accommodations offered.
