"What's the story here?Located near Kastellet, a 17th-century fortress, the 98-room Babette Guldsmeden—part of the Guldsmeden Hotels collection—is a quirky, eco-friendly property that, much like the rest of the portfolio, fuses Scandinavian and Indonesian design. Does that extend to the rooms?All of the rooms (except for those with slanted ceilings) have four-poster beds topped with sheepskin throws and draped in billowing fabrics that nod to Southeast Asia. The decor is a real blend—Oriental rugs, shells dangling from curtains, white bath tiles, stone sinks—but somehow the motley approach works. Wood floors and wingback chairs add to the homey, oasis-like vibe. Are there any good food options on site?Brick-walled Bar’bette, the onsite organic restaurant, is a relaxed hangout. Order beetroot carpaccio or pan-fried cod, or simply sink into a Chesterfield with a glass of bubbly. Say we need a pause from all the touristing—where should we go on the hotel premises?Warm up after a brutally cold day of sightseeing in the sauna and steam bath, both located on the hotel's rooftop terrace. When the weather is pristine, there are several outdoor perches; snag a seat on the front terrace or in the greenery-laden Orangerie.
