Hands down best quinoa salad I've ever had.
We needed a quick bite before our winery tour and the hotel guide suggested Babette's on a long list of cafés with outdoor seating.
On the outside, it looks like any standard coffee shop / café, but the food was definitely a step up. The bf and I split a smoked salmon BLT and sides of quinoa salad and mac & cheese. The sandwich was fairly standard: bacon was crispy without being too crunchy. The salmon had enough body and smokiness that added a layer of complexity to the American favorite. The sandwich as a whole was a little thinner than I would've liked, but it was of good quality.
The mac and cheese was disappointing. We appreciate the fact that it was made with real cheese, but the portion was underwhelming for the price. The quinoa was the complete opposite, so fresh, perfect textures, and we could not get enough of it. The kale was prepared properly (massaged) and it was nicely dressed: red wine vinegar was the only ingredient I could get out of the cook.
We sampled their cookies too. We still don't know what is in the signature, but it was chewy, sweet, ad a great finish to the meal. The lemon cookie had a lot of zest, so if you're not a fan of that, be wary. The double chocolate was my least favorite of the three, but it still held its own. I would've liked a few more chocolate chips though.
All in all, Babette's is great if you want high-quality, casual cafe food. Make sure to grab the table outside for a nice meal in the quiet village.
