London’s Best Greek or Greek-Cypriot Restaurants for Mezze and Souvlaki | Eater London

"Ask a member of North London’s Cypriot community where the most classic taverna is, and all ages are likely to shout: “Babinondas!” The mezze here is one of the most famous in the area, and starts at £25 per person. But there’s also do a midweek “mini” mezze of seven dishes and a main which costs a more-than-fair £14.95, if not exceedingly hungry. In some ways, Babinondas is more than a restaurant. Many people hold birthdays, or engagement parties, here when parties are allowed: Various Cypriot organisations have monthly get-togethers in the large dining room; and there’s a locally famous “Greek Night” with a special mezze menu, a band, and the inevitable dancing. One to look forward to in 2021. The Babinondas name has become so legendary, that they’ve even branched out into making their own wine." - Chris Cotonou

We arrived on a friday evening. You could hear the sound of music from the back and the smell of meat in the air! It was brilliant from start to finish. Friendly and helpful staff alongside delicious fresh food.what more could you want!?? We had the meze for two and it didn't disappoint. From the salad and dips at the start, course after course until the meat grill at the end finished off with fresh fruit and baclava. Well worth every penny and time. Will 100% be going again.

Very high quality food, fresh and bright flavours , definitely one of, and in my opinion no1 Greek resturant I have been to. The warmth , love and kindness they showed me and my family was like nothing I have ever experienced . What a beautiful kind hearted wise soul the elderly man and his team are. The salad and fresh dips were exploding with flavours unlike any I have had elsewhere. They take great care in preparation and aim to impress guests. The fruit, baklava was so fresh. I loved the music too. I will be back 7 stars.

I came to Babinondas tonight with my family. We had two mini mezedes and my children both had a kebab each. The food was excellent, tasty and full of flavour. Their hospitality was fabulous too with nothing being too much trouble. I will definitely be returning! Thankyou for a really wonderful meal!

Did my partners surprise birthday meal here and had mezedes! Priced at £30 per person is fantastic. A buzzing atmosphere, good food and drink. I was allowed to decorate the area too

Had a lovely Fish Meze at Babinondas. We had the he usual Greek/Cypriot starters followed by a good selection of fish dishes...the highlights being the grilled Octopus, Red Mullet and Sea Bream. We finished off with Kataifi. The service and atmosphere is always good here and definitely worth a visit.

Babinondas is the best Greek restaurant I have ever been to. Authenticity is the heart of it. You are welcomed with warm hospitality and friendly and hardworking waiters like Andreas (Andy), Kyri, and the owner. You are invited into a community, as well as flavourful Greek food. Babinondas' food is bursting with flavour and accompanied with smiles it is no doubt a 5 star experience.

I've been going here my whole life with my family and it's still some of the best Cypriot food in the area. Went here with friends a few months ago too and we enjoyed the lovely live music as we all had mezze.

Yelp
Goodness gracious! We got here due to a recommendation from a Greek friend. As such indeed we expected good quality but actually such phrase is an understatement. We had a big dinner with a few people, so luckily we got to try different stuff from the menu. Everything was SUPERB! We had a mixed meze entry of hoummous, tarama, tzaktziki, olives, potato salad, pitta, some seafood and so on and every single thing was superbly exquisite. All the entries were high quality, well balanced flavor and great consistence in the mouth. The different mixed meats we tried in the mains were excellent too. Perfectly cooked fish, pork loin with halloumi, exquisite squid and calamari in batter just at the right point (not overtly oily in the pallate) lamb-chops that were super fresh and tender along with other kebab-style meats and fresh salad on a delicious balsamic dressing, all exquisite! Last but not least, we hit dessert. Limoncello ice cream which was delicious! and very well presented, right consistency and not feeling too heavy. Then fresh fruit served on a flaming bowl of sambuca, to dip the fruit on before eating. I had never ever tried such! In short, stunning food, good ambient which feels nice and cozy yet not overtly formal. Better yet, prices are very reasonable. I can hardly imagine getting a better deal for top-notch Greek food anywhere in London. The location is pretty much apart from commercial locations and a bus from Wood Green to the site is anywhere from 10-12 min aprox But no matter where your point of departure is, trust it will be well worth the visit!

Yelp
Staff here very welcoming and friendly. Had the Meze and after previous experiences with one of these mammoth eating sessions, decided to pace myself through the first courses. They were all fab but then got to the meat course, which i had saved myself for only to be very dissapointed. It was very small and the meat was very dry. it consisted of a lamb chop, a piece of chicken breast and a small greek sausage. What an anti climax. Would i go again, probably, but wouldnt have the meze.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant with my husband and was absolutely disgusted, The food tasted off and i saw the chef picking his nose when walking through the restaurant ( stomach churning ) and the service was dreadful with the waiters outside on their phones, when i went to the bathroom the waitress was crying and told me she hadn't been paid for working there and they had even taken her tips, A dreadful place that belongs in a third world country, i certainly don't recommend going there
