Babis - Popi

Was looking for a seafood place for the evening and someone at the beach this afternoon recommended I try Babis & Popi tavern in Frangokastello . A great family run restaurant with plenty of parking across the street made it easy to get the car parked . Upon arrival restaurant was packed , but the kind staff quickly assembled a table and brought it for me to the outside patio . Score ! Started with a ouzo since I wanted seafood this evening and moved on to review the menu . Many choices for appetizers and main entrees , so I asked my server his opinion. Octopus salad was the first recommendation as a starter appetizer . So fresh and light ! Something I had not tried before prepared like this . Usually octopus is grilled or lemon vinegar . This was perfectly seasoned and prepared with fresh herbs that brought the dish to life . Perhaps my favorite appetizer on the entire trip . Bravo guys ! For a main I wanted something fresh and not frozen … so I got recommended either the tuna or the swordfish. Both happen to be on the catch of the day on the menu . I opted for the swordfish and it was delicious. Well prepared and cooked perfectly , accompanied by a light yogurt sauce with olive oil and lemon and a grilled sweet pepper . Finally as is traditional in Crete , a raki and a watermelon were the ideal ending to a summer light seafood dinner . Great service - great food - great vibes . Will be back next time I’m in Crete.

Probably one the few places worth visiting in the area and the only one serving local “creative”dishes. The chef definitely k owns his craft and everything we tried was cooked at the appropriate temperatures and all dishes were balanced. I definitely recommend trying the fish of the day, the beetroot salad, the splendid octopus salad and the pork steak.

Enjoyed an excellent seafood meal at Babis & Popis Tavern! The dishes were fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend for seafood lovers!

We had a great dinner at sunset at Babis&Popi. The food was great, the service was seazoned with Alexis' sense of humour and the lovely Greek music was inviting and at a decent intensity. It is very close to the beach, so you can hear the waves. The staff speaks English and German and they too, alone, deserve 5 stars. A must try when in Frangokastello.

Amazing place, lovely outside eating area. Food great, lovely octopus salad, saganaki, swordfish and souvlaki. Kids play area viewable from the table also.

We loved the pergula with the vine tree, leaves and grapes creating this beautiful ceiling to the sky! Service excellent. They even asked us many times if everything was fine. The food was nice and tasty. Unlike other nearby taverns, here things were fresh, not frozen. Calamari and tuna were good, next time I will probably try the swordfish.

Our meal really was the definition of perfection, it was incredibly delicious and I'm already looking forward to my next visit with you!

Great food and amazing service. Prices are reasonable, the atmosphere and breeze are really nice, the Restaraunt is about 30 meters from the sea. We ordered a few appetizers and 2 main courses for 3 people, our fish was amazing and the pork belly also. The service was unbelievable, the waiter was knowledgeable, kind and responsive. I highly recommend this place to both families and couples. 10/10
