Babycakes Bakery Returning Home to Hillcrest - Eater San Diego

"Babycakes Bakery is returning to Hillcrest after leaving its original location on Fifth Avenue. The bakery, established in 2008, is known for its specialty cupcakes in flavors like salted caramel and tres leches. It also offers full-sized cakes, brownies, cookies, and creme brulee cheesecake. The new store is expected to open this October and may include soft-serve ice cream, frozen yogurt, wine, and beer." - Candice Woo

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE EVER. We asked for a cake with a Vanderbilt logo for a graduation party. We received an incorrectly colored boomerang shape instead of a “V” that looks like a child made it. The decoration wasn’t even flush against the cake and was moving around. It was also off center. The main icing and siding on the cake were also jagged/not smooth. Again, I think someone’s child made this cake… What’s worse is when I contacted the store for money back, I was told it was “unprofessional” to engage in “back in forth” with a customer. Can you imagine not taking a customer’s complaint seriously in your business? This bakery provides crappy products and won’t speak with you when you’re dissatisfied. What a joke.

EDIT: After the experience below I emailed the manager who explained that they work with many third parties, including door dash and 1800flowers. They also wanted to make things right. I received a replacement fruit arrangement this afternoon and everything looks great. The fruit is fresh and the kale was not wilting/mushy. Thank you for making the situation better. I received a delivered fruit basket for the birth of our daughter and everything smelled like cigarettes, the driver must have been smoking in the car. Not only that but there was ROTTING FRUIT AND KALE in the arrangement. When I called to let them know that the fruit was rotten they told me I was wrong and there's "nothing they can do" to make it right. I would not recommend this place, take your business elsewhere.

Got some strawberry cupcakes from here the 4 pack. Got home and ate a cupcake until I seen it was molded. This store shouldn’t even be open. It made me very sick and I’m so glad my daughter did not grab one before me. Never again will I ever go back

Old stale cookies were given to me. They are brick hard and taste terrible. The banana pudding had spolied and smelled terrible. The bananas were black. See photos. They were all purchased today . Why would you sell old expired food? I don't want an apology I want my $20 back. I will be coming by in the morning for my refund.

Paid $70 for two dozen cupcakes that were hard, stale and the smallest cupcake I believe I’ve seen. The sprinkles were dissolved into the icing which told me how long they’d been sitting. Not worth it. We also got the banana pudding, a piece of caramel cake, and a piece of honey bun cake. NONE OF IT was good or fresh. The banana pudding had an overpowering banana flavor it was soggy, and the bananas were black. The honey bun cake was hard dry and syrupy. The caramel cake was just a bundt cake with what looked like “icing” poured over it and the icing was “crunchy”. We did also get a chess cake square and it was decent. When we walked in to get our order they didn’t offer to help us, we had to wave to them in the back for help. This is not an over exaggeration of our experience we will not be going back and do not recommend.

I didn’t want to write this review, but the cupcakes are awful. They taste like blended sugar and raw dough. So disappointing. First time there and last time. I was hoping for a really good whipped buttercream frosting, different flavor frosting ect. Nope 👎- just a blob of sugar . Milk is 1 day away from expiration

I ordered a cake for my daughter. I don’t live in Nashville so I asked one of her friends to do it for me. The fact that they charged $165 for a cake that looks absolutely childlike is astonishing. When I asked for a partial refund, not only is this company nonprofessional, But they actually threw in that they will report me, Over a cake. I wanted something awesome for my daughter‘s birthday. This looks absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention the price was Outrageous. I have always supported small businesses. But I’ve never been treated with such a lack of respect. Whatever happened to the customers, right? The cake on the right is something that I usually get. The cake on the left where the dress starts at the thighs is what we received. Next time, I can do this myself for three dollars with a box cake. So instead of the owner trying to make it right, she threatened to call authorities, Now that’s just hysterical. There’s 1 million bakeries in the world, and I certainly would never get anything from this one. PLUS, not edible. Completely undercooked. $165. In the garbage. Horrible.

BabyCakes Bakery is so nice. She made two cakes for Janet Jackson, when they came to rehearse for her tour. Luke Combs bought Four cakes. They all were amazing!!! The food was so good. The customer service was so good and the owner is amazing. BabyCakes Bakery is amazing. YOU WILL LOVE IT!! ❤️
