Delicious 😋 cupcakes & coffee! Great ambience. Nice covered outdoor patio to enjoy. (And it didn't smell outside) Just North of the IB Pier, which is a nice short walk away to watch the surfer's and the sunsets. Definitely recommend!

I fell in love with this little bakery. At first, I thought it would be an overpowering sweet, but then, when my family tasted it, we bought more! I especially have to compliment on the lemon cupcake. The lemon curd on top was citrusy, and the whipped cream on top was also a bit sour, but not too overpowering. Others I have to recommend are the red velvet and the blood orange. I’m looking forward to coming to this place very often!💕💕💕

I love this place especially if your a chocaholic like me. The offer a good variety of cupcakes including lemon, chocaholic, getman chocalate, vanilla, red velvet, and blood orange, cake pops, cookies, and cheesecake slices. The cakes are super moist and flavorful cupcakes, and the rich and flavorful coffee. The vibe is chill and the outdoor seating is nice and cool by the beach.

Baby Cakes (one of our favorite Dessert/coffee shops when we’re in Imperial Beach! The shop is very clean with a fresh array of bakery selections available. Creme Brûlée Cheesecake is a MUST!

Charming café in Imperial Beach, CA, and it was an absolute delight! The Boston Cream cupcake was fabulous, moist with a creamy, decadent filling. Had the regular coffee/drip. The coffee, rich and flavorful, pairing perfectly with the cupcake. The shop itself has a quaint, cozy vibe that makes it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a treat. seating outside also. I’ll definitely be coming back for more! Highly recommend checking it

This is a wonderful little shop filled with love and sweets. Always greeted with a smile. The cupcakes are moist, filled with flavor never a bad visit. Keep up the great job. Also a good location.

Nice location almost on the beach. Not sure what the fishy smell was. I didn’t think it smelled around Imperial Beach. We ordered a few cupcakes, a blueberry muffin and a caramel Latte with a couple shots of expresso. The blueberry muffin I thought would be a disappointment with no blueberries…wrong. It was made with fresh blueberries and they all sank to the bottom of the muffin. It was great. Full of berries. The latte was made fresh and had a nice kick to it. The cupcakes were great. We will return to try different locations.

Location was cute and had a homey vibe, and the guy behind the counter was super nice. But, me and my husband shared an ube cupcake and it wasn’t that good. The cake was dry and there was too much cinnamon in the frosting. It just tasted like a cinnamon cupcake. There was zero ube flavor.

Am I doing something wrong? I really want to love this place. The customer service is always friendly and neatly located right next to the beach. However, every time I've tried cupcakes this past year , it's very dry. Living in San Diego with so many bakeries and cake spots, this simply doesn't live up to others. Everything is so pretty, but for the price you pay it simply doesn't live up to standard.

YUM!!! What a wonderful spot! My son and his girlfriend brought me here for an afternoon treat, and a treat it definitely was! So many delicious cupcake choices, and a great selection of both hot and cold beverages. The Boston cream cupcake is heavenly!

Love this place! The cupcakes are always fresh and there's so many options available! The parking is free and plentiful. The staff is always very friendly and eager to share with you information regarding flavors. The ambience is clean and very cute.

So my friend and I traveled south to IB to have some lunch at Fernandez. And of course, we had to have dessert after munching some serious Birria and watching the waves, Babycakes was calling. Today, I tried the Boston creme cupcake. It was good. I liked that it was dense and had plenty of cream filling. The frosting was just right. All the flavors were balanced and not overly sweet. My friend picked chocolate raspberry. She wasn't impressed, though. She said she kept searching for the raspberry, digging into the middle, but there was no raspberry flavor to be found. She also mentioned it was a bit dry. I still love you, my cupcake plug. I'll be back....but probably not with her.

I love coming here for the coffee and my daughter loves the cupcakes. Got a Vanilla Latte to keep me warm as we walked the pier, and she got a peanut butter and chocolate cupcake. Both were delicious. We like this place a lot and it's kind of a thing to stop by anytime we are in IB. Also, we always have a great conversations with the employees and excellent service anytime we come in.

Love their muffins, most of the cupcakes too but yikes the price of the mini cupcakes is outrageous frankly!!

I was in the imperial beach neighborhood and wanted to try a new local coffee shop and found Babycakes. It was during the week and I was lucky enough to find parking right in front of the shop but I can imagine it being difficult to find parking on the weekends . The coffee shop has great options , I tried their vanilla latte and the coffee worker was Soo fast !! Next time I will try their cupcakes they looked Soo good! Definetly coming back and recommend ! They have seating inside the coffee shop as well as outside ! Great place to grab a coffee and walk to the beach to!

Wanted something sweet! My husband and I shared a red velvet cupcake and it was delicious!! Perfect amount of sweetness and the cupcake was so moist! Definitely coming back!

Babycakes has always been an occasional treat, ever since I first tried one of their cupcakes at the original Hillcrest location. The Imperial Beach location has a more laid-back ambiance that fits the beachfront area. The clerk was quite friendly and welcoming and patient with all of our "what's in this one?" question. We purchased two cupcakes - Black Bottom and Chocoholic - and a muffin. The muffin turned out to be the best of the three, but the cupcakes were disappointing compared to my prior experiences. What made Babycakes cupcakes special was that they weren't plain "cake" cupcakes, that aren't much different from what you'd make at home using a standard cupcake mix from a box. Instead, most contained a substantial cream or truffle-like filling. The Chocoholic was just a plain, ordinary, and overpriced cupcake, and the Black Bottom had a rather sad white and fruit frosting-like filling as a thin bottom layer. I may return to this location--but only for a muffin.

Great service and prices!! Drinks were delicious, perfect stop after a long day at the bank needing a pick me up.

They get one star because the customer service was good. The food was terrible!!!!!!!!!! Everything was dry, even the flourless chocolate cake. Not worth the price.

Stopped by today hoping not to be disappointed Ike the last time I was there. There was only 1 employee who was making a couple of drinks for the person before us, so we had to wait a little less than 10 minutes. We ordered a chocolate brownie and 3 cupcakes. All 3 cupcakes did not taste fresh at all. They were hard, like they had been sitting there over a day or previously frozen. The only one that tasted fresh was the brownie. Not sure if it changed ownership or what made the quality change, but this will be my last time coming here, at least to this location. Not expecting a response that says thank you, good luck with your research, as that sounds like the advice from customers is not being taken as constructive to make some changes, but that you can really make the necessary changes to bring those delicious tasting cupcakes back.

Coffee and cupcakes are amazing! Gents are awesome as well, great service and atmosphere! Definitely recommend!

The service was cool and friendly but the product was super disappointing. I really wanted to like these cupcakes because of the convenient location and small business vibe, but they just were not good. I mean, it's a cupcake, so I obviously finished it, but, for real, it was no better than a cheap supermarket cupcake. Not worth the price or the calories.

Husband and I stopped by and got an ube cupcake. Cupcake was very dry and had a very not so fresh taste. I wonder how long it was there for...unfortunate since we also gave tip on top of an already expensive cupcake.

I love this place. The damn cupcakes are moist and very flavorful. I was craving cherry chocolate... but they didn't have any. However, the dude working there suggested an Italian soda... cherry and chocolate. He said he had never made it before. I took the risk. Damn son. It was delightful. Like not the same as the cupcake I was hoping for, but oh yeah it was good. Everything here is good. The cheesecake to the cupcakes to the delish Italian sodas. I'm so happy this place exists in IB.

Nice shop in IB. Parking can be a hassle depending on the time of day and day of the week. Caught them as they were getting ready to close for the evening! Worker was very welcoming and patient as we browsed the display case of choices. Nice cupcakes and pretty to look at but unfortunately nothing stood out about them.

Very moist very tasty. The baby cake cupcake is a marble cupcake the taste so good. Not too sweet. Just perfect. Definitely will be back.

I have to say that I've enjoyed every cupcake that I've had from here with the exception of one healthy one, what's better than a nice dessert after you've had a meal nearby Good service and great products

When ever I take my kids out for dinner usually we stop at baby cakes for a good cup cake and a delicious coffee, right on seacost drive, friendly service and conveniently located near bars and restaurants.

Delicious local pastry located on the Main Street next to Subway restaurant. We picked few cupcakes to bring back to our hotel in Point Loma to celebrate the New Year's Eve with sweet and it was perfect. Personally I really liked the cherry pie, but I also liked everything in the cupcakes from chocolate to red velvet.

We ordered via DoorDash our order arrived quickly and was packaged and sealed for added security. The size of the cupcakes did not disappoint. We tried the red velvet Carrot cake Chocolate Crème Brûlée Cheesecake My sweet tooth was satisfied!

Great late night coffee n cupcake shop in imperial beach, close to the border. Staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable about sweets.

This was delicious! I tried an iced white mocha with almond milk and two shots of espresso. At first, I was confused with a certain flavor, then the second taste, changed my taste buds. It was great! I paired it with a peanut butter cupcake, which was very rich in flavor.

I have been wanting to try this spot out for a while now. Pretty disappointed in the cupcake itself. I got the "chocoholic" And friend got the vegan salted caramel. We both didn't enjoy them. Chocolate icing was deceiving- looked like a ganache on top but ended up being a light mousse. Unexpected which was fine but didn't care for it at all. The cupcake itself was also too cold, hard, and dense. Salted caramel- barely had any of the filling inside the middle, too cold, and the cake was even more dense than the chocolate one. Also, there was way too much salt on top. Unfortunately we didn't care for them at all. Maybe it was just because we got them at the end of the night and got what has been sitting there in the fridge for a while. Cashier was very nice and because of this I'll go back to try an espresso and possibly a different cupcake if they have vanilla options since they were sold out when we got there. Will update after my next try!

Came in on 8/2/20 There's absolutely nothing wrong with Babycakes, I just prefer Nothing Bundt cakes. Babycakes is lacking some moisture, and is overly sweet. Also it costs $4 a pop. We got 3 cupcakes (red velvet, chocolate w/mousse "Chocoholic??" and Boston creme) and an apple tart. I've always wanted to try them so I am glad I did! The chocolates were good, it was just a little tooo sweet. I will say that the customer service is on point and the location is in a convenient area right next to some bars and restaurants. Like I said, great staff, semi yum cupcakes.

Great customer service. I love the coffee and pastries at Babycakes. They have dining inside and outside. The atmosphere is really low key and relaxing.

New flavors for cupcakes than what I am used to! Blood orange and carrot cakes? Lol so cute. They have vegan options too today: chocolate fudge and salted caramel. And of course the guys loved the carrot cupcake and I am loving the blood orange cake and my gf loved the salted Caramel.

1 for 2 here! I ordered the lemon Bavarian and salted caramel. Salted caramel was too salty IMO. Lemon was absolutely divine. The bread was moist and the creme was light with the perfect amount of lemon. Iced coffee was mediocre but not bad. $12 total and id say it was worth it just for the lemon cupcake. Over all next time I'll try something else.

My sister door dashed me a cupcake for my birthday and the cupcake tasted like it was old, it was dry and the frosting was so sweet. This was the first time I had ever tasted their cupcakes and after today I will never go back.

I would not recommend this place. The cupcakes are $5 each and are nothing to rave about. You can get better quality and taste at Albertsons, and for a fraction of the cost.

Perhaps I came on an off day-Christmas Eve in the morning.. We ordered two cupcakes (Babycake and Pumpkin Flavors) along with a hot coffee and Chai Tea. The Babycake and Pumpkin 3.5 The little one and I are i agreement, it was very dry. The frosting was a litttle much because the dryness caused the cupcakes to crumble into small pieces so we were left with frosting only. You needed a couple of spoons if you were to scoop up the crumbs. My only guess is that either these were older cupcakes or something happened when they were baked. Chai Tea-2 Stars Very flavorful but served luke warm. It was a cold morning and a real bummer. There was only one worker who seemed a tad short. After we received our order, a few groups came in and she was busy. Otherwise, I would have asked for another. Paying premium prices for dry cupcakes served on plastic dishes and warm tea is a bummer. I seriously rather get cupcakes at Vons if this is the case. I am not sure why those cupcakes were served. Someone must have known. Same with the tea. Yelp ratings: 1 star is "meh I think not" and two stars is "I have had better." My real opinion of the over all experience is the service and quality of the experience are 1 star. Giving the benefit of the doubt that this was just an off day...rounding up to 2.5/3 Stars.

Stopped in after a filling lunch and a long walk, but before boozing it up at the brewery next door. There was only one lady working the afternoon we popped in, so there was a bit of a line. And it was hot up in that small building. It was cooler outside than inside, and she had a large box fan blowing on her to try to cut through the thick blanket of heat. The drink menu is posted on the wall next to the display case, but there is no signage letting you know how much a cupcake costs. Turns out they're $4 a piece (at least, the two we bought were $4 each...) I got the Salted Caramel and my friend got the Tres Leches. She put them in a small box and we headed to Hess for some beer. I know my friend immediately fell in love with his Tres Leches cupcake, which apparently had a frosting middle that took him by surprise. My Salted Caramel cupcake was equally as delightful - moist and tasty, with a decent frosting that was not overpoweringly sweet and with just the right amount of saltiness. We are fans!

Cupcakes are on the pricier side but they're huge!! Such a cute place right by the beach. My brother and sister love it!

You know that feeling of relief, after you vomit from food poisoning? Yah, I had forgotten about how good that relief is too. Until recently. In my previous review, you'll see I ordered cupcakes for an epic celebration. Fast forward one day, I have Super strong abdominal pain No fever Chills About 20mins later I am heaving over the sink... barfing Soon as I vomited, I felt better. We went through, narrowed down the food and eliminated what everyone else had. What was left was... a cupcake from here. So. Sad.

I was finally able to make my way to this location, I am a HUGE lover of cream brûlée anything so I was excited to try the cream brûlée cheese cake. The cheesecake portion was good, it was creamy. What ruined the dessert for me was that the caramelized sugar was more on the burnt side, giving off a vet bitter taste. It was frustrating because it wasn't like this on my entire slice, I ended up scrapping it off and the taste was better. For me what saved the day and might consider going back was the tres leches cupcake I as well got. It was airy and the filling in the center creamy. It was not an overwhelming taste of treat leches nor was it drench like you would expect in a cake. The buttercream on top definitely complimented the sweetness of the bread and filling.

My family and I bought 3 cupcakes, they are about $4 per cupcake. The Lemon cupcake was beautifully done and tasted delicious. Wouldn't recommend the Boston cream, but the Ginger Cupcake was yummy. My family and I split the three cupcakes and I tried the ginger one last, so my taste buds were a little wigged out, but I think this place is worth a try.

These cupcakes just unfortunately aren't great. Maybe because I'm a baker by trade I'm not sure. The frosting tastes like pure shortening and no butter what's so ever. The cake itself tastes like a low quality grocery store cake that's pre frozen for months before it's assembled and out on a display that also sits for a while. The only thing that made it semi ok was the sweet girl behind the counter.

I came for the coffee on a cold night to watch the sunset and will be back for the cupcakes !!! It was the only thing open coffee wise in the quaint little neighborhood. The storefront looks like a house , quite adorable setting! Indoor and out door seating available , the minute we ordered I turned around and there was a line of 5 people - they get busy fast! The coffee was delicious, and I know my coffee. Not too dark not too light , just perfect!!! The staff was friendly and helpful when choosing something out. The cupcake list is extensive they have something for everyone! Every flavor under the rainbow !! Super excited to come back!!!

Baby cakes is in a great location. I found it after I took a walk on the beach. There is a lot of outdoor and indoor seating. All cupcakes look amazing, I tried the Boston cream cupcake and I loved it - not too sweet, it was perfectly balanced. I bought the pistachio, white w/ raspberry & carrot cupcakes as well.

Very nice cute location right on ocean blvd we had 2 espresso and 2 cupcakes the beans are top notch and the baking skills were real nice

My fav place to get cupcakes! Perfect for birthdays or any special occasion. This place is right by the beach too. Wish they still had the Mexican mocha.

Another great find in IB. Make sure to check this place out. They have a killer chai. They had an assortment of drinks and pastries. We tried the Caramel Brulee Cheesecake, which was fantastic. Not too sweet or rich just right. Poppy was really friendly and welcoming and recommended many things. I highly recommend you check this place out. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars was because the mocha drinks could use a different sauce. Poppy made the drinks correctly but the sauce that was used for the white mocha or the regular mocha was not flavorful enough.
