Bacareto da Lele - Review - Santa Croce - Venice - The Infatuation

"There’s nothing over €2 at Bacareto da Lele. Spritzes and draft beers are cheaper than most cappuccinos, and a glass of red or white wine filled to the brim costs even less. There are great tiny sandwiches filled with prosciutto or salami, but you’ll have to get there before 2pm or they’ll probably be sold out. Go inside to order and then find a spot at one of the repurposed wine barrel tables outside and make friends with your neighbor. This place is close to the train station, making it a perfect first and last stop on your trip." - Gillian McGuire

Gentlemen, you are wonderful, the service is top class, very friendly and family-like. I was sorry to go home. Everything is very fresh, you can even see the hard work with the naked eye. Bravo bravo. Thanks to you, I want to come back to Venice. Fabio ❤️ I love you man

Google
Bacareto da Lele is such a gem, hidden just off the Grand Canal near San Pantalon. We’ve been coming here every single time we’re in Venice for the past ten years, and somehow Lele is still as full of energy and as young as ever! His mini sandwiches are hands-down the best in Venice, the wine is always delicious, and the prices are crazy cheap. I totally recommend stopping by early in the morning—it’s the perfect way to soak up the vibe of this amazing little place. Once you try it, you’ll want to come back every time!

Google
Delicious and affordable in a cute little square! We asked for an 8 piece 'surpresa' which included cheese, meat, and fish bites.

Google
For me it was disappointing. Still half an hour of program, a lot of people come and go but the blinders were closed even if the waiter was inside. No food no drink This was good for me though because I had the opportunity to find my own place to have an excellent Aperol Spritz, the next day Campari Spritz, the next day .... and it was better.

Google
They only sell small sandwiches, some of the fotos are bot from here. Authentic Venetian. Sandwiches are very delicious, BUT the stuff! Be prepared for having just something but not you have been told. I did get some sandwiches, but not what I was told. The sold my sweet muskat wine instead of Pinot Grito, that I wanted and asked. As if I can't distinguish between sweet and dry wine! I don't like to be fooled. However food was good, with a taste of deception.

Very good place. There you can drink some local vine . Very nice 👌

Google
10/10 would recommend food, drinks and vibes. They have a variety of small sandwiches and spritz like many other places in Venice, it was ideal to tour around having different varieties. Prices were great, and contrary to judgement by first look, they take card. In case you don't believe me, I went twice in the day, in the morning it was quite empty and chill, closer to the evening it was quite packed.

Google
This is the best quality to price place in Venice for cheap but delicious small sandwiches and wines. We tried cheese and spinach and variety of meat sandwiches, all of which satisfied us. If you need a quick pit stop for food and drinks, this is an ideal spot.

Yelp
This is the best find in Venice. Little tasty sandwiches, small glasses of wine and a crowd of locals waiting. Standing room only and off you go with a few sips of wine and a lil Sammy. Simple, tasty, inexpensive and wonderful.

Yelp
We came for a quick breakfast. We got the little sandwiches to go. They were cheap and delicious. What more can you ask for? I would have loved to go back when they had more things available. I loved the overall ambiance of locals just standing around sipping wine (early in the morning) and enjoying their rolls. Service is fast and efficient.

Yelp
This is a gem of a find. 1.20 Panini and 1.00 vino. Been around for my entire life time and worth coming back again and again. You must come here!!!!!

Yelp
When in Venice this is a must stop, all the local water taxi guys eat there, the locals and many many people frequent this place. Where else can yoh get two delicious sandwiches and a beer for under 9.00 Euros! Super friendly staff and the food and drinks were spot on.

Yelp
Cheaper than making your own panini's. Great little place, with lots of locals enjoying a break. 3 small panini's and a glass of red wine, 4.20 euro, lol. Pick up your food and eat it outside. Large selection. Wow.

Yelp
I had to make my way to this little spot since I had heard so much about it. This bar literally made it to any local Venice persons blog/recommendation. So when you are on a little bar crawl, add this one. When me boyfriend and I arrived here it was packed ! It's literally I tiny spot with a counter. You don't eat or drink inside. You go to the counter, order, pay, then head outside. There's are small tables to stand at. It is along the canal so you can easily sit right on the ground near the canal. The menu is directly on the wall with glasses of wine for $.70. This is definitely the cheapest place you are going to find ! They also have different little sandwiches to snack on for $1. This is a mix of tourist and locals. The best part was that even though it was busy, they are fast ! I'm glad we got to stop in.

Yelp
This was easily the most local, authentically Italian eating experience we had on our trip. We first saw this place around 1 pm and it was so packed that people spilled outside around the small square. The first time I entered the storefront to order food, I saw garbage workers and a pharmacy owner socializing. Bacareto da Lele serves Venetian Cicchetti, or small snacks/sandwiches, and wine by the glass. The workers there are kind and good-humored even to tourists (me). Sandwiches are €1 and wine costs between 70 cents to €2. I ordered a salami with funghi and a porchetta sandwich, along with a glass of white wine glera (Prosecco). I'm not a wine fan, but this was the best wine I've ever had in my life and it only cost €1. The sandwiches are unbelievable. You can do an ASMR video on their bread because they're so crunchy. I personally lean towards the salami sandwich- the mushroom complements the savory salami flavor so well. Be sure to visit Bacareto before noon; they tend to run out of sandwiches early on because it's so popular (we went the first time around 12:45 and the locals said they're out of bread). Check this place out if you're near the train station- you can get drunk AND full off less than €5.

Yelp
You cannot go to Venice without passing by here. Eat like a true local amongst the locals. A couple glasses of wines and two orders of the serving of cured meat, mozzarella, and mini breadsticks set us back only a few euros! And it was the best mozzarella and cured meat of the trip! Not even sure exactly what kind of meat but it was superb! The wine was called Raboso and is local to the area. Little places like this don't provide tables but just take your wine and cheese to the outside plaza to take in the view. While there, some locals who had just graduated from college were also there (I knew this based on the leafy crown on their heads which I googled to discover it's a ceremonial graduation tradition in Venice) and they all ordered the same as what we ordered. They hung out in the plaza, celebrated with Italian singing and dancing, and even had an accordion. Perfect small dishes with a glass of wine in hand and locals singing in the background. It was most definitely a Venice highlight.

Yelp
This was a fun, local gem in Venice! Loved every minute of visiting and in short, can describe it as entertaining as heck, cheap and great place to get a small glass of wine and appetizer before your dinner. If you're not a local, you will be overwhelmed. I was until I watched what was happening for a bit. There were a bunch of people and no semblance of a line forming. Jump in, pack patience and eventually, you will get to the counter. Don't expect uber friendliness; it's so busy I wouldn't expect it. Have your money ready and basically, everything on average, is one euro. Make sure you look at the chalk board and pick from the available wine choices. I posted a picture of the menu so you can get an idea of what to look for. They also have small paper plates with snacks. The day I visited, they had a small plate with cheese, salami (I think) and crackers for one euro. There were only two people working the counter and although not too friendly, kept everyone moving in and out fairly quick. There are no tables or chairs. A few barrels are just outside the business so if available, it's a good place to set your food down. As a side note and a bit of comedy, the day I visited, there were so many people that they sprawled to the local church steps. To my amusement, a man with a hose quickly cleared this area out. For those of you from South Florida, a great way to describe this place would be the equivalent of ordering Cuban Coffee from La Carreta, on steroids. In summary, this was a fun and very local treat. So grateful to the person that recommended it to me.

Yelp
Before returning to Venice I bookmarked Bacareto Da Lele, and I'm really happy I did! The sandwiches are outstanding and the wine selection is top notch! Tip: The raboso poured here is quite good, and it's also an excellent value at less than a Euro per glass :-) This place is VERY popular, but don't be discouraged by the crowds. Once you're in line, start checking out what the offerings are that day so you'll be ready to order when your turn comes. All the staffers working the counter are very friendly and quite nice, but they're also very efficient so the line moves quickly; don't be timid when your turn comes or you'll get missed. Bottom line: Bacareto Da Lele is an outstanding place to come for an excellent snack and a glass. All their ingridents are fresh, and whatever time of day you decide to head there, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy some great food, inexpensive wine and to socialize with dozens of like-minded people, all proximate to Venice's beautiful canals.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while walking back to our hotel one night, and we're so glad we did. For nearly 5 euros, we got two glasses of wine and a plate of ciccetti, which consists of cheese, meat, and some crackers. The food was nice and fresh, and the wine was GOOD!! Come and get some good food and wine and sit by the sidewalk and enjoy the beautiful view Venezia has to offer! There is no seating at this place, so there was a lot of people eating and drinking outside, as well as a long line waiting to order. The line moved quickly though, so that was not an issue at all. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Yelp
We accidentally stumbled upon this place. It was nighttime, and was PACKED and we saw no tourists around...first plus. We approached, saw the prices on the chalkboard with NOTHING over €1.20...second plus. We nudged our way in, ordered 4 glasses of wine and 2 cicchetti...our total was around €7-8...third plus. We took our wine and sat on the steps leading into the adjacent canal...fourth plus. Spending American Thanksgiving Day on the edge of a quiet Venice canal and sipping wine...equals...5 STARS!!!

Yelp
This place is lovely always full of local/tourist. The food and drink was good for the price. My Italian friend actually recommended Bacareto Da Lele to me as "you will be full and drunk with 3 Euro." I mean considering my small Asian body type, it'd take only half of that. If you are a person traveling on a tight budget and don't mind sitting outside, this is a place for you. They have a good vibe, the view outside is great. It is located about 5 minutes from Piazzale da Roma bus station among other expensive touristy places. I definitely recommend this place to my friends.

Yelp
I was so mad that I found this little spot so late in the game! ARGH! When in Venice, finding a good bàcari/cicchetti* spot is IMPORTANT! Why? Because it is inexpensive, usually freaking-fantastic and a good way to eat/drink a little with the locals. This bar is located VERY close to Pza Roma so if you are pressed for time it is quick and close by. At this specific spot, you could get two panini and two "swallows" of wine (see my pic) for under 4 euro... which is pretty awesome when you are completely burnt out on paying 15+ euro for lackluster pasta or pizza (Venice is very, very expensive and it is hard to find quality food aka non-tourist traps). I found this spot to be very useful for lunchtime because the summer heat really zaps your appetite (well, at least mine) and eating something small, DELICIOUS and inexpensive was a major convenience. They serve paninis in the morning and then again in the afternoon... once they are out, the food is done! So, if you are going in the evening, 530 is a good time being they close around 8pm. There are a few other spots around Venice that serve other types of cicchetti but depending on what time of year you are visiting they may be closed (for holiday, etc). So do your research and make your own CICCHETTI CRAWL! *cicchetti is to Venice what tapas are to Spain
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
Worth waiting in line! The porchetta and mustard was light and went well with the Prosecco and the cheese & sun-dried tomato cicchetti was perfect with the Cabernet.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Wow what a find! My fiancée and I found this on a recommendation by a friend and this place was amazing prosecco going for .90 cents! Wow and it tasted really good! It is on the outskirts of Venice itself but if you ever have a chance of running into this place I would highly recommend stopping by! I wished I could of been there all day!
google avatar

Lynne W.

Yelp
Mini sandwiches and cheap good wine. What more could u want? Great for a quick lunch or snack with a great view of a less crowded canal! Got a glass of Prosecco and 3 mini sandwiches for under 5€.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Delicious meats and bread. €1 for a sandwich (4-5 bites for large male) and €0.20 gulps of wine
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Cheap & Amazing....can you get better than that? Mini baguette sandwiches for €1 and wine for €.80, I started each day here because it was so good. There is no seating and it's always packed but moves quite quickly, I always sat out by the canal for the view that was in front. I will warn you of the birds though....my last day there a bird swooped down towards my head and knocked my sandwiches out of my hand so that they could eat it, even they knew how good they were! Thankfully with the inexpensive cost of the sandwiches I just bought another and laughed at the new story to tell. My favorite sandwiches were the porchetta then the salami & formaggio.
google avatar

Sara O.

Yelp
The best place we visited in Venice! Love the tiny tiny space inside, the bartender drinking with the crowd, and the tiny glasses of wine. Ya the portions are small but just get a couple. We walked all the way from our hotel on the near opposite side of the island and was totally worth it. Even if there is a bit of a line it goes fast!
google avatar

Andrii P.

Yelp
A good and popular spot for cichetti and wine or aperol spritz (€5 for 2 cichetti's and aperol spritz's).
google avatar

Courtney M.

Yelp
I'm not sure why there are so many 5 stars. It was a great place, don't get me wrong, but 5 stars? Its great to grab a little sandwich and glass of wine for cheap but it wasn't the best thing I've ever had like people here are saying. I enjoyed my experience here and it is perfect to pop into when coming off the train - but it is what it is, a drink and a little sandwich.
google avatar

Sameer C.

Yelp
Dirt cheap cichetta (small Italian dishes). Delicious panini and meat. And insanely cheap drink prices (small servings of prosecco, spritz, different types of wines, etc). It's right next to the bus station so if you're coming into (or leaving be city) that way you have absolutely no excuse for not stopping by and dropping a few euro on this marvel. Be warned though, they run out of food quick and you're most likely to only get some in the morning until early afternoon.
google avatar

Yelp
A terrific little find without the tourists in Venice. Stop by for inexpensive house wines and small plates before dinner or at happy hour. This was a unique stop for us - hanging out with the locals, standing around, drinking wine by a small canal. At 0.60€ per glass of wine, you can get a head start on pre-dinner festivities. Only a 7-10 minute walk from the train station. A real gem.
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
At 5PM on a Monday this place was packed! It's easy to see why, with ombre for 1E or less and sandwiches for around the same. It's a little hole in the wall type place, without much room to do more than order. Most patrons quickly grabbed their wine and Panini to enjoy along the canal just outside the bar. Definitely include Bacareto Da Lele as part of your cicchetti tour, or consider it for a quick snack while exploring Venice.
google avatar

Sue K.

Yelp
Sadly out of all the food available in Italy, I enjoyed the salami and cheese mini panini from this hole in the wall bar the most. It was so cheap at 1 euro. As I was leaving Venice, I got lost, desperately trying to find bacareto da lele again. I found it at dusk but there were no more mini paninis left and tourists and locals bombarded the place trying to get a glass of vino. I will return one day.
google avatar

Sean R.

Yelp
I'm pretty sure I got here after the normal time for cicchetti, because they were mostly cleaned out of food! Thankfully there were some little salami/parmesan panini left, so I got one to try along with a glass of prosecco. It was so good! It even drove the regret of under-preparing for my cicchetti search out of my brain. Next time I will be better prepared, and this place is on my list. I can't wait to try their other food.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
I was used to go to Lele so many times when I lived in Venice that now I miss that place so much! Simply and cheap. Just get one panino (anyone, they are all fantastic and fresh made) and an "ombra" (glass of wine). That's perfect!

B H.

Yelp
I guess the review isn't necessary since they have five stars but I will tell you this place has it all together great service great price and delicious sandwiches. And they're extremely friendly to American tourists so heads up you got to try this place
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
Right across from our hotel and reasonably priced mini sandwiches. I think we got three sandwiches me for 3 Euro. It's a tiny shop that sells wine and small sandwiches. It felt very authentic and I was so happy I tried it. There's almost always a line but it goes quick and at these prices it's a great place to stop for lunch.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
Yes! This was my favorite sandwich experience in all of Italy. It was a little bit hard to find, away from the immediate hustle and bustle. The sandwiches are small, but perfect so you can taste lots of different concoctions. And at 1-2 euros, it's well worth it. We asked for the chef's recommendations. We loved his recommendation which had a soft cheese and maybe a cucumber? All of the meat sandwiches were tasty as well. The bread was crusty, but not too hard. The little glasses of wine are genius. We tried so hard to go back to this place again to grab some sandwiches to go for the train - we weren't able, but I highly recommend this as a great train or to-go meal!
google avatar

Mallory G.

Yelp
Fell in love with this place. Tiny glasses of wine, super Italian enviornment, fair prices, good tastes, and a great cultural experience.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Great place for cheap food and drinks! Many different types of wines offered for less than 2 euros per glass. The food they offer is a simple plate that consists of 2 pieces of cured meat, 2 pieces of cheese, and bread (good portions of each). I paid 3.30 euros for one plate and two glasses of wine. Your price will be different depending on the wine you choose. People buy their food and drinks and then eat and drink outside. I went around 6 pm and the place was packed. Plan on waiting in line for at least 10 minutes.
google avatar

Brandie I.

Yelp
Off the train, grab a nice lavender gelato then stumble across this gem. We weren't even hungry but who could say no to a cute little ciccetti. Everything was so fresh and it was the best way we could try a few typical wines of the area at such a reasonable price. We sat along the canal and chatted away with one of their usuals who spoke a very little English as we tried to put together the little Italian/French/Spanish each of us knew. Great dine, marvelous experience.
google avatar

Elaine N.

Yelp
Thanks to Yelpers, I found this place and it was close to where I was staying. Small sandwiches, plates and cups of wine; all Very Good and a REASONABLE price! And they offer "Take Away." No place to sit, and since I was there in January, Take Away was more convenient for me!
google avatar

P B.

Yelp
Nice stuff. Many students ( the unversity is nearby). Small glasses of wine from 60 cents to 1 euro (2014). Little snacks - fun to be here!
google avatar

W C.

Yelp
This place hits the spot. I ordered six ciccetti's and two glasses of wine, about €7 euro. Get there early, I arrived around 5:30pm, ate on the steps by the church and enjoyed sunset. Perfect spot to go when you're low on Euros and want some good quality small bites.

Cathy K.

Yelp
Great place for fresh mini sandwiches & glass of prosecco or wine - for about 1 euro each!
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
lol some things you just cannot explain to friends who want to drag you off to Starbucks or whatnot...
