Great Underrated Restaurants in Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Prolific local restaurateur Julian Barsotti opened this spot in 2023 and it’s been quietly attracting low-key local celebs and devotees of live music, which is on offer several nights a week. What goes under appreciated is the food menu. The club shares a kitchen with his beloved Italian restaurant Nonna and serves an excellent tapas menu that includes wood-oven pizzas, charcoal grilled meats, and even a few of Nonna’s “greatest hit” dishes." - Courtney E. Smith

The 12 Hottest New Cocktail Bars in DFW

"Enjoy a little taste of Miami (and live music) inside this small bar that serves tapas and hosts live music. In-the-know guests will find the secret door between it and Nonna. Order from the sophisticated cocktail menu and pair it with sharable dishes of Italian-inspired bites focused on pizza, grilled bites that lean towards seafood, and antipasta from the shared Nonna kitchen." - Courtney E. Nonna Chef Julian Barsotti Will Open Two New Dallas Restaurants | Eater Dallas

"A new Italian outpost opening next to Nonna will offer pizza and Venetian-style tapas, such as lamb meatballs, with much of the cooking done in a wood-burning oven; the menu centers on small, shareable plates inspired by Venetian bacari. The restaurant is slated to open in Fall 2021." - Brittanie Shey

If you're craving the vibrant energy of New Orleans with a touch of Spanish flair, this spot is a must-visit, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. The live jazz music sets the perfect mood for an evening of tapas-style dining. Every dish we tried was exceptional, bursting with flavor and creativity. While the wine selection could benefit from a few more quality whites, the overall experience more than makes up for it. Highly recommended for a lively, memorable night out!

Avoid. Went here on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and were so excited for the live music. The owner came in right behind us and sat at the table they were about to seat us at. We were told the owner took our table for their friends and that we needed to wait for another to open up. The waitress apologized and said ‘sorry, it’s highland park’. The manager David tried to make excuses, saying they were asking the band to shorten the set so some of the tables would turn.. but that’s just ruining other people’s night. Any restaurant that doesn’t put paying customers first won’t have my business and shouldn’t have yours.

Bacari Tabu is an unexpectedly delightful venue with tasty food items, a wonderfully bespoke cocktail menu, and a pleasant atmosphere to the tune of live music most of the week, with jazz on Fridays and Saturdays. Andrew is a top-notch bartender and conversationalist. He and his fellow mixologist, Mario (not pictured) do a great job of attending to patrons. Mario has done an amazing job at crafting a wonderful cocktail menu and can make almost any drink just by telling him vague ingredients and a desired taste - and gets it exactly right.

1980’s club reborn in original location. Food phenomenal. Great bartenders particulary Andrew knows his stuff. Cool take on Caesar salad. Great vibes. Entering in the rotation.

We recently came for a long awaited visit to celebrate my mom’s birthday. My parents used to frequent Strictly Tabu (which this restaurant is based after) back in the day and we couldn’t wait to come check out the new spot. Amazing atmosphere and Marisol provided us with great service! Everything we tried was delicious. For tapas, we had the Endive Caesar, Gnocchi alla Romana, and the Rissoto which is their specialty dish. For pizzas, we had the roasted broccolini pizza which was great! We had the cannoli for dessert which was good as well! I strongly recommend getting at least 1 pizza if there’s 2+ people as it’s the best value for your money, since all of the other dishes are tapas (small servings ranging from $16-$40 a piece). The fried olives they put out before your meal were super delicious as well! The live music was great and we enjoyed our time but are disappointed they do not plan to have live jazz like Strictly Tabu did, as that was our sole reason for coming. Would definitely return in the future for a light bite and cocktail before dinner. The music doesn’t start until around 8, so it’s better to make a later reservation than an earlier one if you’re going for the music!

1. Did not get greet 20 mins after we sat when our reservation is at 7:45pm. 2. 3 dishes ordered, took the restaurant 2/30 hour to finally sit on the table. Thus, we were getting too full to order more since the food took too long. Wait for a while for drinks as well. *The check came out quicker than the meal/drinks* (that's funny). 3. The staffs are not friendly, no proper greet. The staff also lost my credit card toward the end, and assumed I didn't put the card in. No apologies, nothing. This is my second time here, I hyped this place up with my friends since last time I had so much fun here. This time has disappointing me tremendously.

Great place to enjoy your evening with well crafted cocktails, the jazz band is playing at 9pm. If you want to sit at a table, make sure to make reservation ahead of time, otherwise you can grab a seat at the bar (if you’re lucky).

Early on a Friday….Im almost the sole patron…sat at the bar. A small. It respectable cocktail offering. The Gansta Paradise is a serviceable if somewhat watered down old-fashion. The fried olives and spicy sausage pizza was delectable. Dark, moody, lush dining room appointments. The main attraction would obviously be the live music acts featured on a jewel-box stage. Can only imagine that this place is packed to the gills during showtime. Worth a visit.
