It appears that Baccarat Rouge has either lost or chosen not to renew their liquor license, which isn’t a promising sign. In addition, I recently had an unpleasant experience with one of their employees. When I visited the store, I was genuinely interested in purchasing a set of wine or champagne glasses. However, the woman assisting me — a white lady — was condescending throughout the interaction.
When I mentioned that I had seen the glasses online, she immediately implied that I might have been on the wrong website. Each time I expressed interest in buying them, she repeatedly emphasized the price, saying, “You know they’re $270 each,” with extra stress on the word each.
The entire experience was such a turnoff that I’ve decided to either purchase the glasses elsewhere or order them online instead. Regardless of who walks into your store, no assumptions should be made about a customer’s ability or intention to buy. It was an unnecessarily unpleasant experience — especially ironic given that I happened to be wearing a pair of $800 earrings at the time.
