Back A Yard Review - East San Jose - San Jose - The Infatuation

"Popular Caribbean joint Back A Yard cooks up some ridiculously good jerk chicken. Since opening in 2004, they’ve added three more locations, including our favorite, a brick-walled fast-casual spot on the Capitol Expressway, and one with an outdoor patio adjacent to San Jose State. The atmosphere is easygoing and virtually everything is worth ordering—from the jerk chicken and beef oxtails to the Jamaican fried cornbread and daily specials like ackee and codfish. With plates and combos that range from $11-19, and snacks and sides under $10, you can (and should) try a little bit of everything." - Shoshi Parks

DIAMOND in the Ruff ! ! First and Foremost, the food here us EXCELLENT! If you are into authentic Jamaican cuisine, then look no further. . I was very impressed by menu and more impressed by the taste, from the Caribbean! The Curry Chicken was prepared to perfection! Rice peas and cabbage mouth-watering . . EVERYTHING was Fresh and cooked right ✅️. Will definitely be back! Don't Let the Neighborhood Scare You, Just Use Common Sense, You Will Be Fine, Trust Me . . . BACK-A-Yard keep making slamming Food ! ! !

At 9pm on Sunday this place had everything on the menu , that made me happy because I stopped at top taste first and they only had curry chicken and rice. Anyway very authentic Jamaican food here I had the curry goat mac and peas and rice. (Pictured) my sis had oxtails . They had oxtails 9pm on a Sunday !!!!! Some places barely have them 3pm on a Wednesday 😒. I recommend Back a yard. I seen in another review someone said slow service but their food doesn't sit under those heat lamps she takes the time to reheat every platter on the stove . Now that's great service !! And it's flavorful. Little portions of meat but filling and delicious 😋. Visit this place!!

I live this place. Authentic, large portions and tastes like home cooking. Cash only. Friendly. No seating only takeout

I ordered a medium oxtail platter and the lady literally gave me THREE oxtail. I asked her did she really just only give me three and she told me three big ones. I literally just paid $16 for an oxtail gravy and rice platter SMH I will not be back this is a rip off literally. If there was a negative star option that’s what they would get.

First time here and WOW jerk chicken VERY flavorful & not too spicy💪🏽 and usually getting Mac n cheese as a side isn’t that good at Jamaican restaurants but this is actually really good too.

Yelp
Food is good but the hygiene practices could definitely be improved. Watched the lady prepare my food with no gloves. There were 2 other employees in the small kitchen with her and no one had on a mask. Even though this is a little hood Jamaican spot they have to do better.

Yelp
Never again. We ordered a LARGE oxtail and we got a giant plate of rice. Wtf? Next time I crave Jamaican food, I'll book a flight.

Yelp
Good staple if you live around here locally. Good food for a good price. Absolutely love the Oxtail and if you get rice, you're pretty much set for dinner and leftovers for the morning.

Yelp
I ordered the oxtail w rice n beans w cabbage. Everything was very tasty! Oxtail very tender cabbage delicious n customer service was very pleasant (from my hubbys words lol he went in n picked up). Large oxtail platter was $14 she also had cornbread for $1 but I passed on that. Great experience I'll be back!
