Placed a large order & everything was ready for pick up very quickly. Great customer service. The food was delicious, everyone was happy with their selection. The stuffed shrimp & crab cakes are definitely items I would order again - great quality & flavor.

Google
Didn’t know what to expect. Takeout only, placed my order for 5:55pm pickup. Arrived early and asked if I could add one cooked crab cake - no problem. Little neck clams, stuffed shrimp, beet and goat cheese salad and crab cakes. Highly recommend this place for the quality of the food. Everything was delicious.

Delicious food and great portions for the price. This place is definitely worth the stop

Staying at a hotel for our Stone Harbor vacation, my husband and I have eaten out for every meal. We’ve had a lot of great food, but this was our favorite seafood so far. The crab cakes and fried shrimp were seafood at its finest. The french fries weren’t just a filler, they were cooked perfectly and we were given a very generous portion. I could only finish about 1/4 of my fries! It’s take out only, but delicious. If you are looking for some of the best crab cakes and seafood you’ll ever have, this is your place!

A delicious taste of summer with an old fashioned, down to earth, friendly vibe. Fresh made crab cakes cooked on the spot

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here and it was delicious! We ordered the crabcakes, muscles, as well as clams. Everything was extremely delicious the sauce for the mussels and clams was to die for. I wish we had extra bread so that I could have chunks more in the clam sauce. We called in for a large take-out order and the restaurant even called back and we're talking to us about if they can do it family style or other things like that to cater to the party better. I thought this was an extremely genuine gesture that not every restaurant had to do, and it made our experience some of your dining at home better. I would suggest this to anyone in the area.

Yelp
I will start by saying these crabcakes from Backbay Seafood are the best anywhere. Pure top quality crab meat held together by more crabmeat. No fillers in evidence. Now this is not your $5 crabcake sandwich from a street fair someplace. This is high end fare in a take out environment. My mom discovered this place at least 15 years ago. I've been coming here for the past 7 years and we always treat ourselves to the crab cake dinner on our last night in town. This year they offered a more limited menu than usual but everything we wanted was available. An entree of 2 crabcakes and a side goes for $34. In addition to the afore mentioned baked potato you can choose linguini or fries. They offer other seafood choices like scallops and shrimp, but we have never swayed from the crabcakes. They put to shame anything Maryland or Virginia has to offer. The business is family owned and the staff are as friendly as you can find anyplace. They truly appreciate your business. Now they have limited operating hours off season, mostly weekends. We call and place our order, get a pick up time and they bring it out. Nothing could be easier! The hard part is smelling its deliciousness on the ride home. If you are in the Stone Harbor area, or any of the Jersey Shore beaches, treat yourself to Backbay Seafood, the best seafood anywhere!

Yelp
Back bay crab cakes are a must have when we come to the shore. Doesn't get any better! We like to just order the crab cakes individually. Some of the meals are not the best value. The mussels are great too!

D M.

Yelp
As always delicious. If you're lucky you'll get Tim on the phone to take your pickup order. Most entertaining pick up order ever placed.

Renea F.

Yelp
We've been ordering from Back Bay for years and it never disappoints! Usually just get the crab cakes but yesterday we had the clams, shrimp risotto balls and clam chowder special. Delicious! The salad are also fresh and big. A rare occurrence in town. 5 stars for Back Bay!!!
google avatar

Jim R.

Yelp
Wow - it's been a year since we've been here and the rating is just as good as it was. All of the entrees were above average as well as the portion size. I had the fried seafood entree and again found the clams something to skip - too chewy! You must call to reserve your pickup time. Don't wait too late to call because they seem to always be busy and I understand why. An above average take out only

mary w.

Yelp
The seafood lovers in my house were impressed with the scallops and the fried crab cake dinners. Delicious and generous prtions
google avatar

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Very bad experience here. For $39 you get 5 scallops and 3 stuffed shrimp only on the combo seafood platter. The scallops were small and gritty. The shrimp were also medium sized, not large, and the crab filling was slo gritty. Nothing special about the preparation was nothing fancy, breadcrumbs and fat, but also really bland. No seasoning at all. Not even salt. The chicken parm, the only non-seafood menu item, was a very large portion for $25. There is a charge to use a credit card. This is takeout only but they would like tips. There is much better seafood to be had in this area for a lesser price. For instance Rick's in North Wildwood is an excellent choice.
google avatar

Mai R.

Yelp
So yum! While the prices are on the high side, its super fresh seafood so its worth a splurge. Great lobster roll & fries! The staff is cheerful & clearly love what they do. Its on my regular list whenever Im in the area.
google avatar

Ron J.

Yelp
Wow, amazing take out!! Was shocked to see how small this place was. I have been told to go there by several people on the island as I am new to Stone Harbor and Avalon. By far, the best crab cake I have had in some time. Tons of lumps and absolutely delicious. My brother got the chicken parm platter and it was enough for 3 people. Now that I am down here, I will be a regular!!
google avatar

Kristin N.

Yelp
I swear to you - if you love crab cakes, you'll love Back Bay Seafood! The platters aren't inexpensive but are large. Check out the crab cake sandwich with fries to go. This includes coleslaw, too for about $16. Parking is limited and this is not a dine in restaurant, but it is perfect for an easy dinner after a day at the beach. Pro tip: choose either fried or broiled crab cakes (the only answer is fried).
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
Ok, there were several hic ups in the ordering and ready processes (only reason it is not 5 stars this time), but it was clear they were unintentional and that they wanted to make things right. Regardless of the process, the food was fantastic and perfectly prepared. 6 orders and all perfectly delicious at reasonable prices for the shore. Their broiled scallops are the best around I believe. The Lori's Combo got rave reviews as well. Too much food to eat and enjoy!! Lori, the owner, is great. She understands the importance of each and every customer. It is because of her focus and the quality of her food that I will be loyal to her company.

Marie B.

Yelp
BEST CRAB CAKES!!! this is always our first dinner in Stone Harbor. They're rich and filling so I eat one and save the other for the next day. Great to make with eggs. Love the linguini in marinara. They charge $10 to use a credit card.

chris d.

Yelp
This place has gone SO downhill. I used to frequent back around 2010s, went to every so often since then and the last two summers the product has been brutal, specifically last weekend. We got three crab cake orders, so 6 crab cakes in total, all broiled. Every single one of the cakes had MULTIPLE pieces of shell in them. Totally disgusting. And their is literally no lump meat in them anymore, all mush. Not every the exterior is coated in lump. I used to talk down on all the SIC seafood places, etc. in favor of Back Bay, but they are now WORSE quality - you never get shells at those places - and cost more. The fries at least were still good, but they forgot a side & they barely give you any with the crab cake order. Will never go back.
google avatar

Clarisse B.

Yelp
The previous reviews are spot on! Ordered the Crab cake Entree, Scallop Entree & Chicken Parm Entree. All 3 meals were delicious. The Crab cakes are truly the best I have ever had! Each portion was very very generous. Even the baked potato was supersized. Also, the coleslaw was really yummy - and I'm not a big coleslaw eater. If you are looking for a place to eat definitely try Back Bay Seafood you will not be disappointed! (Side note - it is take out only. Don't let that throw you off. We walked there, brought it back to our hotel and ate on the deck patio. The food is well packed & was still hot & delicious!)
google avatar

Den M.

Yelp
I always love the potato salad and crab cakes but tonight tried the shrimp arancini balls!!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
AMAZING crab cakes!! My family and I ordered here the other night and we were very pleased. I'd recommend the broiled crab cake - all crab no filling, it was delicious! The lobster bisque soup was also a 10/10. We loved everything except the calamari -I wouldn't recommend. If you're looking for takeout seafood down the shore - look no further. We will definitely be ordering here again!!
google avatar

Ankit D.

Yelp
Long time Stone Harbor favorite. Great crab cakes and other friend local fish items. Nice people, doesn't look like much but one of the best on 7 mile
google avatar

Brandon H.

Yelp
Place is phenomenal. My wife and I ordered the Lobster Bisque and Crab Cakes entree with Crab seasoned french fries. We were not disappointed. The soup was delicious. Only thing I'd change is to add a bit more lobster chunks. The lobster in the soup was more finely grated. The flavor of the soup however was a 9/10. The highlight of the meal was the grapefruit sized crab cakes. Hands down the biggest and best I've ever had. Most places give you flapjack style crab cakes, that consist of 60% crab and 40% breading. These cakes however are 95% crab and you can get them broiled or fried. Deelish. Get you meal to go and watch a sunset on the bay or have a picnic on the beach.we will be back!
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
This place has amazing crab cakes but they are so inconsistent about keeping their hours that it is a source of consistent frustration. We have literally tried to go there or call ( yes, we learned that lesson) during the hours posted on their website 4 times and they are either not open or are closing early. And they impart this information with a special kind of rudeness. I'd love to see them get their poop together because we love their crab cakes Edit: down to two stars because, once again we called earlier in the day and were told they were open until 9pm, but when we tried to order at 7:30, we were told they were closing an hour early at 8:00. Ridiculously Unprofessional.
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Crabcakes are one of my favorite foods on earth and these definitely hit the spot. They are rather pricey at $12 a pop but FULL of huge chunks of sweet crab meat. None of that red pepper, breadcrumby filler nonsense that many places use to stretch them out. I liked them so much, I came back to buy 7 more to bring home to Northern NJ with me in a cooler. I had some leftovers after that and made a fantastic crab lemon garlic pasta with them which was absolutely divine. If you are staying in the area, I recommend having them broiled for you prior to your time slot.
google avatar

Laura H.

Yelp
Sometimes you just need a lumpy, hearty crab cake. And that's why you guy to Back Bay Seafood! My boyfriend and I ordered one crab cake each, that was all we needed. The only reason I'm giving this place five stars is because it is pricey.

S S.

Yelp
Mediocre! Crab cake probably best out of everything , shrimp cocktail, flavorless, rubbery, poor quality shrimp. Fried calamari too heavily breaded, some pieces overdone some under. Honestly nothing tasted particularly fresh or of good quality. Reminded me of the seafood you get at a diner. Needless to say will never patronize again.

Judy C.

Yelp
This place used to have the best crab cakes around here, not anymore. I paid for a "bread cake" for dinner--I looked for crabmeat, but didn't find much. Also, some of the shrimp in the Mediteranean Salad were raw! Could have made us pretty sick if we didn't know better. We've been loyal customers to this place for years, but never again. It's just awful.
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
These crab cakes are to die for! They're the size of a baseball and full of large chunks of crab. Last year, I got a couple shells but they're so good I overlooked it. This summer I've had no problems with shells.
google avatar

Dan F.

Yelp
Incredible place, worth almost any length of time on line to get your hands on this incredible seafood. Raw bar and cocktails while you wait is a big plus and plenty of room with a great flow.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
This is probably our favorite place to eat in Stone Harbor. I like how you can call during the day to place your order to pick up. We stay on 89th and it's a nice 20-minute walk. There are a few great spots to eat outside nearby on the Bay as well. The service is very friendly and has always gotten our order right. The food is really good. We've had the stuffed flounder, crab cakes, crab soup, and fried shrimp before. Everything has always been amazing. French fries are yummy and crispy too. It's exactly what I want staying down the shore--fresh, incredible seafood. Deducting one star because it's pretty expensive for a seafood shack. Yeah, it's Stone Harbor, but spending over $60 for two people to eat out of styrofoam containers is a little crazy. We will always come here for every trip despite the price.
google avatar

Raksha M.

Yelp
The BEST crab cakes I've ever had. No competition. I wait till the time they reopen and freak out every time I visit Stone Harbor. I wish they'd have frozen ones I could online order from NYC.
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Understand there is usually a long wait, so plan for 60-90 minutes in advance... we happened to get lucky with a 45 minute wait. The crabcakes and coleslaw were delicious. Fast friendly service.
google avatar

Meghan K.

Yelp
We got take out around the fourth of July. We ordered off last year's menu and noticed after we paid that the prices were much more expensive compared to last year ($6-$7!). They do give you a lot of food. I got the scallops and french fries and couldn't finish the order of scallops. They probably give you around 15! Most meals (crab cakes, flounder, shrimp scampi) were definitely shareable. The scallops were broiled and had some type of cheese on top. They were cooked and seasoned perfectly. All of us were very happy with the taste and quality of the food. Next time we will probably get less meals for less leftovers.
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
We had take out from Back Bay. It was fresh and crispy! Linguini with Garlic Sauce was sumptuous! A very enjoyable meal!

Tasha B.

Yelp
Crab cakes were delicious! Huge portions! Ordered the crab cake entree and could only eat one of the two. The other was just as good heated up the next day.

N Z.

Yelp
Had the Mediterranean salad and it was great! 7 large jumbo shrimp, a heaping serving of fresh lump crabmeat, over romaine and kale salad, topped with calamata olives, sun dried tomatoes, and Parmesan (maybe it was pecorino?) cheese. Dressing is an olive vinaigrette with diced herbs and olives. Very tasty! Personally I like a bit more acid in my dressing, but they must have anticipated this because there were 2 lemon wedges! Remainder of my group had the crab cake sandwich with fries, which I don't need to elaborate on beyond "it's the best crab cake at the shore." I didn't try it, but they enjoyed theirs. This place is only pickup, and they have rules if it's between 5-9pm, but check out their website and call ahead. Pickup was easy, our lunch was ready in 15-20mins. Bit pricey, but expected for the shore/vacation.

R C.

Yelp
I stopped to get crab cakes after the reviews I have read here, they were mostly breading very little crab. I don't know if the people on here have ever had a really good crab cake.
google avatar

Jeff F.

Yelp
My daughter's first crab cakes were from this place and I'm so glad. They're phenomenal! Broiled delectable yummy goodness!
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
These are, hands down, the best crab cakes on the east coast. That includes the entire Chesapeake Bay area. Get the U-Cook-Em and throw them in the oven at 400 for 20 minutes. They are pure lump crab meat and at $8.50 a piece, they are a steal. Their chicken parmesan is enormous, enough for two or even three people for sure. The lobster bisque is excellent; buttery and full of bits of lobster. Come for the crab cakes though, they are amazing. The place is small, but the flavor is huge. Do yourself a favor and stop in if you are in Avalon or Stone Harbor.
google avatar

Jed P.

Yelp
We crushed this place. Crab cakes were solid, filled with moist fluffy crab meat. Fries were the breaded kind, which the whole party enjoyed, and the garlic bead was crunchy and well seasoned. I had the shrimp with marinara, and it was great and tasty, but I needed more sauce to give this a five star. We placed our order the night before for 5:15, it was ready at 5:30. We will hit this up again.
google avatar

Alexandra L.

Yelp
Delicious and fresh food! It was over an hour and a half wait time, but the shop is so small they can't handle a ton of orders. Their time estimate was accurate to the minute, so they ran our food out to our car. There was a bit of a mix up with the name on the order, but they quickly resolved it. The chicken tenders were crunchy served with cole slaw and BBQ sauce. The shrimp was perfectly fried and huge. The lobster bisque was a bit of a disappointment- too tomato-y tasting. All that food for $38 and the location was perfect. We'll definitely be back this week while we're staying here!
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
I've eaten crabcakes pretty much everywhere and this was the best I've had. Please don't insult it with tartar or cocktail sauce because these crabcakes are perfect by themselves. Had crab soup, lobster bisque, shrimp Cesar salad, linguini w/ marinara, all very good. But it's the cakes that are the star. Will go back every weekend I'm at the shore...even if I do have to drive from Wildwood to Stone Harbor for this.
google avatar

Kyle H.

Yelp
The crab cakes were absolutely amazing tonight but we did have an issue with our order. The manager, Eric, more than made up for the mistake. Highly recommend. We will be back.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Fresh seafood, prepared right. Crabcakes - I found the filling a bit more soggy bready than I had hoped, and was left wanting some lump, but still a very successful crabcake, whose flavor profile more than compensated for these shortcomings. Stuffed shrimp were a real winner. Tender to the tail. Wonderfully prepared and a reasonable shrimp for your money. No pushing margins here. It was a sizeable, succulent shrimp. Clam strips pretty much stunk. Really a disappointment, but the only one. Nice lobster bisque, with a strong sherry flavor coming through. Not too much - but close. Nicely done. Call ahead!

Frank M.

Yelp
Stay away from the cream of crab and the lobster bisque. There is so much salt that that you could melt the ice off you driveway. in the winter. Waste of a drive from pennsauken.

Anne C.

Yelp
BBC offer the best crab crake this side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. I live in Annapolis and recommend this establishment if you are in search of a damn good cake with no filler and twice as much crab meat as you would find in my hometown. Note, I was torn between giving this rave review or withholding it to keep my favorite seafood spot a secret. I couldn't be selfish so here it is. Think twice before ordering elsewhere. Bravo, BBC!

John P.

Yelp
I almost feel guilty leaving a negative review because of all the good ones. Had a very disappointing experience this evening. Called around 2pm for a 645 pickup time. The website tells you how important it is for you to be on time so I got there a few minutes early. They were running behind. One of the regulars in line commented on how he had never seen it so busy. Ok, no big deal. Several of us are waiting for our orders when all of a sudden they've run out of baked potatoes. This place offers a limited number of sides, but right at the the dinner rush they're out of potatoes. Ok, so a little annoyed but no big deal..I choose fries instead. Dinner for 5 is ready a little after 7 and I head back, eager to try the (hopefully) great food. Except that I can't, because they forgot my entree. So I call ahead and let them know, and to their credit, I was able to pick it right up. The food was pretty good overall. I had the crab cakes, which were great. My wife had the fried seafood combo, which was good. The fried clams were great. Two of my sons had crab cake sandwiches, which they enjoyed. The cole slaw was ok. The frozen fries were fine. Unfortunately, it wasn't all good. My other son doesn't really like seafood, so we ordered him the $26 8oz filet mignon, cooked medium, with asparagus. (Say what you will about ordering steak from a seafood takeout place.) What we got was a tiny (maybe 4-5oz) hockey puck of a steak that was cooked well done. It was in a container with the asparagus, both swimming in some mystery garlic sauce that is not mentioned on the menu at all. I really wanted to like this place. However, there were just too many issues with our experience tonight. I'm not writing this review to bash the place, but with the hope they will take the criticism constructively and offer a better experience in the future.
google avatar

Louise P.

Yelp
Definitely the best crab cakes I've had outside the MD/DC area, just like the other reviewers say. If this review was strictly for the crab cakes, I'd definitely give five stars. We also got mussels which were HUGE. Seriously the biggest mussels I've ever had but they didn't lose any flavor. I highly recommend them! The broth had tons of minced garlic in it, which was so delicious. Fries were perfectly cooked, nice and crispy. My friend didn't think her baked potato was prepared very well - it looked like it was just thrown in the microwave. Also the "steamers" apparently weren't like real steamers. They were served in a broth instead of being dipped in butter. Also, the woman who took our order over the phone was extremely rude.
google avatar

William Thomas C.

Yelp
Menu touts "Everything made fresh daily." I don't believe that for one second. Dreadful! We ordered crab cake sandwiches and fries. The person taking the order never mentioned that fries and cole slaw come with the sandwiches. So, we ended up with the sandwiches, fries and cole slaw and two orders of fries. I'm sorry, but when i was in the restaurant business, i would have mentioned to a customer when a sandwich comes with fries. Use your head man. Why in the world would i want fries when something already comes with them? As for the crab cake sandwiches. They're ok. Certainly not as good as they claim. Mediocre as best and nothing to write home about or make a special trip to Stone Harbor to pick up. First thing I noticed was the smell. The crab cakes didn't have that freshly cooked aroma. The smell was reminiscent of something cooked in oil that hasn't been changes in weeks. The taste was similar. Burnt oil really doesn't make for an appetizing sandwich. The texture of the crab cake seemed more fill, less crab. The french fries also had the old burnt oil taste and were soggy and salty. Cole slaw tasted as if it were fresh from a jar. Simply the worst. :(

Yelp
Take out only, no seating. No real seating in the surrounding area either. The fried seafood and crab cakes were OK. I would drive here because of the lack of seating. We made the mistake of walking several blocks to get here, and it was damn hot! Our fault for not planning ahead.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
The crab cakes are as good as advertised. Chicken parm was good, not great and very large. Chicken fingers and fries were more than my 15 year old could eat. Did I say the crab cakes were damn amazing!?!?

Emily M.

Yelp
My ex-boyfriend and I used to always get crab cakes from here when vacationing in Avalon - we would get them uncooked and cook then ourselves. I still pop in and grab some when I'm at the shore. Best around and absolutely NO FILLER!!! Great seasoning and very moist (sorry, I know people don't like that word). You really only need a squeeze of lemon and that's all! I've never found any shells in mine but hey it's a crab cake so it's def easy to miss a shell now and then. Great place to grab and go and bring your food to the bay nearby and relax!
google avatar

Leslie R.

Yelp
Giving 4 stars not 5 because the price went up a $1 and the crab cakes got smaller. Good crab cakes though!
