"Tuck into a barbecue plate in this tucked-away spot near the mall — tourists won’t find it on their own. All the staples are here: beef ribs, pulled pork, and smoked chicken, and this spot earns raves for its potato salad. Pull up a picnic table and have a down home meal after a big day of luxury shopping." - Courtney E. Smith

For 25 dollars I got the basket plate with a drink and 2 sides. The place is clean and roomy. At 1230 I was shocked the place wasn't busier as it's solid bbq. The brisket was tender and smoky. The bbq sauce is AMAZING with just the right blend of sweet and spicy. My only complaint was the Mac and cheese was cold and weirdly peppery. Overall though I would definitely come back.

Google
Disclaimer; the meal only come with two sides but I paid for the extras...Nothing but good things to say about this food. Everything was delicious! The people are kind and friendly. The restaurant and restrooms are clean as well!

Google
My favorite bbq spot in DFW! Great people and great food every time my husband and I go here.

Google
Everything about this place is great!! Had the brisket and pork ribs which were both some of the tastiest 🤤 I've had in a while. The place feels very homey and it probably has to do with the trophies that were donated by a long time customer because his wife made him deconstruct his man cave 😬😕😞 and the pretty stained glass windows. Sides were all so tasty sounding it was hard to choose but I settled on the cream corn and baked potato casserole both again🔥🔥🔥. Have had other more expensive "big name" BBQ places that didn't come close to this flavor. Definitely a hidden gem. The staff was all so friendly and welcoming I'll definitely be making this my regular Dallas area BBQ joint whenever I come to town.

Google
Myself and 5 of my coworkers are here for work and we wanted to find great BBQ. We stumbled upon the best place! The gentlemen helping us make food decisions and chatting with us were absolutely wonderful! The food was SO good, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for!! Thank you for our dinner (and my special treat of my mac and cheese)!

RC Woodshop

Google
Worst Sausage I've ever hand and the brisket was dry. Sides weren't much better the potatoes tasted like they had been left over from last week. The beans were decent but anyone can open a can of beans. The one highlight was the staff was super friendly and the sweet tea was on point!

Google
Great staff. Accommodated our senior singles group so well. On first Saturday of month, a banjo band plays. Great group. I had stuffed bake potato and peach cobbler. A friend had the ribs. All excellent. Love this place!!

Donna Boyd

Google
I chose the catfish, fries and Cole slaw. When I say it was bland… you could find no seasoning by looking at it. My husband ordered baked beans and he never received them. He also had the corn which looks like baby food with bits of corn. The fries were old and over cooked. The staff members was kind. The portions were small for the price. We wish them luck but definitely won’t come back.

Yelp
YUM! Had dinner at Back Country BBQ. Best Pork ribs and love their high quality brisket! The side dishes were excellent too-had the BBQ Beans and Cole Slaw. I don't always like Cole Slaw but theirs was really good. QUIET too. I love being able to hear my dinner companions! Great place for a large crowd too. They have some large tables for groups. We are long time patrons and they are consistently good. Get yourself on over to Back Country BBQ-one of the BEST BBQ restaurants in Dallas!

Garrett S.

Yelp
Solid and affordable. I came here with my family at 5:00 on a Saturday and there was no one in here. Food was very good though. I recommend.

Aubrey C.

Yelp
This place is fantastic! The service was probably the best I've ever had a bbq place. I had the Turkey dinner with greens and Mac n cheese. Great experience. Will be back.

Victoria E.

Yelp
Best meat ever, when you walk in the door you are engulfed with the best smoked smell of Barbecue meat. Tiki Hubby and I got beef and pork ribs, coleslaw baked potatoe and some yummy corn dish. The meat was smoked to perfection and their tangy sauce was perfect. The ribs fell off the bones we tried to decide which was better pork or beef both won! Causal large dinning room. The guys behind the counter were so much fun taking our order and delivering the meaty wonders.

Keyona D.

Yelp
Got the loaded baked potato with brisket meat and side of chili. It was sooo good . I need a nap now lol. Thank you, I will be back soon.

Yelp
Long-time family-owned BBQ joint I must have driven by 100 times on Greenville Avenue while in Dallas visiting family, so I stopped in finally to check it out while free for lunch over the last visit. The first thing that strikes you is just the vibe of the place.....it FEELS like a barbecue joint. Had a ribs lunch, everything was quite good though not world-changing. Restaurant clean and staff very friendly. Would vote 3 1/2 stars for food quality but rounding up to 4 for the ambience and friendly staff.

Carlos Daniel C.

Yelp
It's the worst plate I have tasted in a long time. They are not kind people. Worst beef ribs ever.

Raúl C.

Yelp
Celiac's beware. Back country barbecues whole chicken comes with bread on top. It's not specified on the menu, and it's not anywhere on the website, but if you order a whole chicken, they will send it to you with two giant slices of bread on top to add a heavy dose of gluten to what is otherwise a normal chicken. We called to complain and request that they make good on the order as we just wanted chicken not a giant chicken sandwich. Every other meat item we've ever ordered from them comes without the bread. They told us to talk to Uber Eats, not their issue. Too bad for us. Don't make the same mistake we did. Be sure to specify gluten-free on EVERYTHING, including the pickles.

John C.

Yelp
Best authentic BBQ - old school! No fancy or crazy spices, just good old fashioned sweet BBQ. Best sauce in town and it's sold by the jar to-go. Love the lean brisket and awesome ribs. Sides are good too. You will not leave hungry! GO!!!!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Once is a mistake, twice is a pattern. I just returned from the restaurant even though I used one of their delivery services to order dinner tonight. Of the four items we ordered, one was missing and one was wrong. The bag had the safety seal, so apparently it was the restaurant's fault. They were very apologetic when I called but ultimately I drove over to get the missing item, despite paying $15 for delivery fee and tips. And like I wrote above, if this hadn't been the second time I'd had a problem, I'd probably have left it alone. The first time I placed an order with them, it was a phone in pickup. I did count the items after picking them up but when I got home, my dessert was wrong. I called and they said they were out of the dessert I'd ordered, so they replaced it with one they "thought" I'd like. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't just call me back and ask what I'd like instead! (I didn't like what they gave me instead so it was a total waste of money). So that's two orders where I've lost money and had my time wasted, so I will look elsewhere for BBQ. Luckily good barbecue isn't hard to find in Dallas!

Jordan S.

Yelp
This place is great if you are seeking the country style diner. I love taking friends visiting from out of town on our last "hang-over" day. They have really REALLY good food.

Tandra M.

Yelp
First time going I got chopped beef sandwich and I loved it! This time decided try potato w/chopped beef. It was loaded w/flavor. I've been back several times for chopped beef sandwiches. They offer banana pudding but I'm picky about my banana pudding. It was made the night before so Nilla wafers were soggy. I could tell it was homemade, I just didn't care for it. Pinto beans are good.

Charley K.

Yelp
Always great Texas bbq in the traditional Texas style. Friendly service and usually room for groups to meet for Sunday lunch or other.

Steve O.

Yelp
It was my first time at this BQ restaurant and I ordered the food to go for 3 people. I ordered one chopped brisket sandwich , one regular baked potato with chopped brisket and one bake potato with double chopped brisket for $40.05. Sounds like a lot of food, Right ! Well, when we got to the house, surprise, surprise ! The chopped brisket sandwich was a sandwich for a child, the stuffed potato was big but were was the brisket ! Maybe we had a 1/4 cup of meat. Then the stuff potato that should have had double meat, No, it had the same amount of meat as the regular potato. Food only tasted okay, service was okay, No big deal. I'm sorry to say that I won't go back again, there is to many other better BQ restaurants to choice from. My two cents.

Kyle O.

Yelp
I've tried almost everything here and it is GREAT. I come on Saturdays for lunch and it's not very crowded at that time. I think beef ribs are my favorite meat here. Fried okra, vegetable salad, and greens are all good.

William C.

Yelp
After many years, ownership has changed to new but seasoned BBQ restaurant manager of many years. The interior has been completely upgraded. Stainless steel surfaces from floor to ceiling in the areas where food is being served and prepared. Beautiful new tables and chairs, the hangings on the walls -- primarily college banners -- have been replaced with new and more additional school banners, and they are tastefully hung. Restrooms have new tile throughout and brand new fixtures, and every time I've been there, the men's room has been whistle clean. The place is downright spotless and with an enormous amount of paved parking. And with the superior amount of parking, the updates, the nice size party room became the perfect destination for birthday, anniversary and retirement parties. The food, of course, is what it's all about, and the meats and the sides are equally inviting. Stop by and see for yourself.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Terrible not even worth a star the sides are trash the beans are a nasty pooh color and taste like they mixed tamarindo in themand dont get me started on the sauce. There's no middle ground whether it's under season or not seasoned at all. The meat was okay but not worth the price $$

JD M.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a teenager back when it was on NW Hwy at Ferndale. Today was really good. I had the half chicken with two sides and couldn't finish it. Is there better BBQ out there? Yes, but not at these prices. My dinner was $14.00, less than a brisket sandwich at OAK'D. Service from Theo is always awesome, but not for long as he is retiring in September. The menu here is large. If you don't want BBQ, there are other options. The place is clean, restrooms are clean. I'll be back. Hopefully before Theo retires.

Jessica G.

Yelp
So delicious, every time! I always get the brisket, and am never disappointed. Also, don't forget the baked potato casserole on the side. Can't leave without it!

Kim H.

Yelp
Brisket was brown and dry. Hard and had no taste at all. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but it looked like they gave me some 3 day old brisket or it just is overcooked. Wanted a refund but instead threw it in the trash. It needs to stay in the backcountry. Never again...

Scott H.

Yelp
OK - this has been my default BBQ place for about 30 years now. I got to know Big Mike, Mr. Frank and Mr. Earnest over the years. Several years ago, Mr. Frank sold out and new owners took over. In this COVID shutdown environment, I'm sensitive to trying to support my local and favorite places when their traffic has slowed significantly and their costs have gone up. However, on Friday, 2/5/2021, I reached my breaking point. The restaurant was poorly illuminated. There was no "welcome, how can what can we serve you today." approach. The lady manning the cash register said she had just started working and it showed through her lack of training and her personality void of any type of warmth or engagement for customer service. The line and kitchen staff were disorganized in trying to communicate and manage the preparation 4 different customer's orders, including mine. When I got back home with our order, some pieces (ribs, turkey) were as good as usual. Others (sausage, fries) were either off their standard (different sausage vendor) or didn't travel well. The overall quality of their food has declined consistently to just mediocre or slightly below average at best. Lastly, while I stated I'm sympathetic to the plight of local restaurants; local restaurants have to understand that my income isn't going up and there's a breaking point. Back Country BBQ reached that breaking point with me. I can no longer afford to eat at this restaurant. Over $40 for 2 - 2 meat platters and an additional 1/4# of sausage - no drinks. I've seen their prices creeping up over the last year compared to their competition; but, no more. I can find better customer service, better food, and better pricing with not having to drive more than an additional 5-10 minutes. Sorry Back Country BBQ - you're off the list as your menu prices are trying to cover too much of your survival mode ... your customer service "bang to hype" ratio is out of proportion ... and your food taste and quality is currently just average. I hope you survive; but, your future is grim, in my opinion.

J M.

Yelp
Horribly incompetent staff/management, overpriced, and TERRIBLE food. Easily the worst BBQ I've had in a LONG time. Avoid at all costs.

Cherell D.

Yelp
Never Again! Drive a little further. Order incorrect and Big Boss asked if we ate the incorrect food from days ago, no I'm sorry your order was incorrect in sight. OK food but terrible customer service!

Amy W.

Yelp
We have been coming here for over 20 years and I don't know what has happened to this place. Yes things have been upgraded but the staff serving food was rude and did not have a staple bbq item. I am super disappointed in this place that we used to love.

Andrea C.

Yelp
I guest if you're not a loyal customer they'll just give your food away to their favorite customers/friends. I ordered first and that's the reason the sides were ready with the rest of my food. But oooh no, that wasn't enough for the owner. I told him what I ordered. It was what you were holding and decided to give to your "friend" and made me wait for another side. Which came out extremely greasy. The other employees were actually fine. It was once the owner came from the back "trying to help" and clearly didn't. Just do better.

Cinda S.

Yelp
Wow! I've been on a hunt for best beef ribs. I believe I found my spot! Fabulous amount of meat on 3 ribs, more meat than fat; which on my quest has been a hard find. Generous portions cooked close to perfection ~ flavorful and price is so reasonable @ $14.99 a plate with yummy salad and green beans. The Texas toast looks great but I am a no carb ~ in bread form ~ girl. My Sexy Pants had the brisket which again he said is worth every bite in price! Yep our new go to for BEST beef ribs!

Jay S.

Yelp
Dallas is full of overrated BBQ joints. There's Pecan Lodge. There's Lockhart BBQ. Shall I continue? I'm not sure if Dallas natives just don't know good BBQ or if they just grow up on thick BBQ ribs that are chewy and tough. Either way, our tenure in Dallas has been a huge disappointment when it comes to doing BBQ right. So when I saw a place languishing in the Greenville area with a 3.5 star average, I wasn't totally yoked to go there but I also knew that Dallas doesn't know good BBQ so maybe it would be worth a shot. On my way in I passed a guy walking out carrying a bunch of bags and asked him if he 'came here often'. He said 'Every Sunday!' I took that as a good omen. I'm really REALLY glad I took a chance on Back Country BBQ. It's set up where you order from behind a counter. We chose the ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken and a few sides. Everything was sensational. I mean like BEST IN DALLAS. My whole family was shocked. How could this joint be so amazing and so unknown. So I read through some of the reviews. Mostly weird complaints -- cold green beans, menu inside was different than the online menu, blah blah blah. Very few complaints about what YOU CAME HERE FOR!! The ribs were tasty, fall-off-the-bone tender meat. The pulled chicken and pulled pork were great but even better with a bit of house BBQ sauce. The vibe here is very relaxed. No waiters bugging you while you look like a walking dead zombie with red and brown goo smeared across your entire face and hands. Just grab an empty table and chill. There's a DIY soda fountain as well. We don't make it to this part of Dallas often, but next time we do, we'll be sure to stop in at Back Country again for the best BBQ in Dallas.

Emily C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed their sliced brisket! The mac and cheese and greens were good too! The staff was very nice and welcoming and the establishment was clean.

Lmn N.

Yelp
If you have had KC Missouri BBQ still no comparison. I ask the young man behind the counter for a loaded full meat Baked potato. What meat he asked? I said "burnt ends" we don't have burnt ends!!! WHAT! So the older man behind the counter showed me "burnt ends?" I said, YES:) OMG!! So then I order side of ribs for $10. They gave me these little meatless ribs already cut up on a little plate! I looked at theses 5 rib bones, & said no thank you! I'll have sliced brisket instead, please! So I got 5 slices for the same price!! They said it weighted the same!! I said really the cashier said yes!! She said Ribs are more expensive BUT you gave me 5, 1/2 slices of 1/2 inch thick brisket!! Anyone know of a good BBQ place on PLANET TEXAS!!!???!!! The Bake Potato was good, with BURNT ENDS:) I heard Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse is good. CATTLEACK BBQ I really like, but their hours are selective.. free beer while waiting the line out the door, 10:00 on Saturday?

Talina L.

Yelp
I've lived and worked in the area for many years. I finally stopped my rushing around to try this place and the meat was fantastic! This review is for my wife who has been in the hospital down the street for 10 weeks! This is her first non-hospital food! The order was on time and delivered hot! Thank you for being there to serve during these difficult times. Soon as she is out and businesses are opened again for sit down dining, we we both be regulars!

James A. S.

Yelp
My wife and I have eaten here a lot and enjoyed it very much. Went there last week, and the quality of the chopped barbecue has gone way down. I don't know if someone else is doing the cooking, but it is not good. Probably not going back.

Courtney O.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped in after he had a hankering for BBQ but we'd never tried this place out. We will definitely be back! It's such a cute environment, reminds me of going to school in west Texas. The music is great and the staff is helpful and friendly. The sweet waitress/checkout lady told me the juice may be sweet but the koolaid was PERFECT! I couldn't stop taking about how good it was. Definitely recommend!

Kathleen M.

Yelp
This is my stop on the days when I have been out busy with errands and cannot fathom the thought of going home and cooking. They have one of the best baked potatoes with chopped BBQ brisket that I have eaten. Their counter service is great, friendly and just a short wait. Doesn't hurt that it is less than half a mile from home so my food is still hot even after dragging all my groceries and other purchases into my apartment. One day when I have time I will try some of their other items on the menu!

Thaddaeus D.

Yelp
Went here with the family, the place seemed nice, but the food was not... We'll start with the meat. It was bland, cold, and not trimmed well at all. There was almost no actual meat on it, just fat and bones. The sides were also cold and tasted like they had been sitting out for a while, even tho it was only about 5:30 in the afternoon. Everything had tons of salt on it but very little flavor. The BBQ sauce itself was runny and tasteless. The only good part of the meal was the soda, which is REALLY sad for a BBQ joint in Texas... I would not recommend anyone going here at all! I paid $45 for 3 plates and one drink (2 got water), it is overpriced and not good for what you get.

Ray F.

Yelp
This used to be a great place for great quality BBQ for many years. The ownership changed and unfortunately, the food just doesn't seem as good as I remember. The brisket is well smoked and that flavor rings true, but all else seems to be of a lower quality, especially the ribs. I will still come here for the brisket and potato, but I'll pass on the beans and coleslaw on the next visit. The price is still up there and the service is better under the new ownership as they do aim to please. The items on the walls remain and it is a tribute to the customer base and previous owner.

LaToya M.

Yelp
I just been having a taste for bbq. I usually don't eat here even though it's 2 blocks away. So got the 2 meat plate w/ ribs and brisket. The meat was good but the ribs were a lil salty. The sides were good but potato salad was a lil salty too. 17.32 w/ tax. I think they upcharge for ribs. I'd return for sure. Oh customer service was good. They used to have pickle spears and other self serve continents but since people were coming in and taking a load of stuff, they got rid of it. Those pickles spears were the bomb. You just ask for condiments now.

Barb S.

Yelp
We love their lean bbq. no fat. delicious sausage and ribs, the Best coleslaw. Have been using them 35 years. Never disappoints us.

Aldo Q.

Yelp
This is an underrated BBQ joint. Their brisket is soft, tasty and all around great. My go-to plate is the Three-Meat Platter: brisket, pulled pork and hot links. You can't go wrong with any meat, really. One of the best features is that the restaurant is literally a block from my office. So I can walk a little after a great lunch. Their service is great too. You will be greeted with a "Welcome! What would you like, young man?" No matter your age. In summary, what makes Back Country BBQ one of my favorite places is its winning combination: great food, friendly service and a very convenient location.

David L.

Yelp
I'm glad we got dessert. They honestly were terrific and made sure we didn't leave completely hungry. I wanted to go and my friend went despite telling me it was really not good. The BBQ and sides really were not good. he was right. It's been around a long time, but it seems its the only BBQ place in the area. Order desserts. Skip the rest.

Delisa S.

Yelp
I had the loaded baked potato to go. It was perfect and ready as soon as I got there.

Elena G.

Yelp
All I can say is omg. My husband and I were feeling like a cheat meal today and with covid-19 around we knew we wanted to support local restaurants. We were craving some bbq and I came across Back Country BBQ on Uber Eats. I typically don't get the pork or brisket because I feel like it's always dry where ever I go. BUT today I was feeling myself. Stimulus check came in so I was in a mood for something different. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and when I say this sandwich touched my soul. IT TOUCHED MY SOUL. I don't think I have ever tasted something so magical. It melts in your friggin mouth! If I get BBQ this is where I'm going to start going. It's just life changing tbh. God bless you Back Country BBQ you shined some light during these dark times and thank you for working hard and putting love in the food. We all needed this.

Caroline G.

Yelp
Love coming here because it's quite and food is always delicious. The brisket has No fat!! There is never a wait. The staff is super friendly.

Vermaurice B.

Yelp
I went there today and the staff was very welcoming . The food is always great. You must stop by and talk to the staff believe me they will talk with you

E N.

Yelp
The Beef ribs were rubbery leather dog toys. The Pork ribs were grey centered and salty and fell off instead of holding a bite. Sauce was runny, sides lacked flavor. It's a Tuesday....but we won't be back any other day of the week to try anything else, ever. You'd HAVE to be in the "Back Country" without any other options for dinner, to want to come back to this place. Unfortunately for this establishment though, this is Dallas Texas, and not the only smoke spot in town.

R. W.

Yelp
Good basic barbecue place, friendly cashiers. Decent selection and plenty full condiment bar and hot sauce containers.

Ryan J.

Yelp
Oh man the sausages were so good I can't wait to get back to Dallas to have more! They close early so don't dilly dally! The MAC was great and the chili was also excellent. Will be back many times.

Charlene G.

Yelp
Whenever we come to Dallas to visit family, we go to this place because the brisket is so good! I also love their spicy beans and the condiment bar. Prices are very reasonable, too. The owner is very hard working - bless him!

Terry H.

Yelp
Very good BBQ. this is a great place, the ribs were fall off the bone tender. The brisket was tender and had good flavor. I thought it was a little dry. But put some of those good sauce on it and you have a winner. Beans were good also. I would enjoy visiting this place again.

Eduardo C.

Yelp
Very good ribs, but when I checked the online menu it said they serve corn on the cob and mashed potatoes and when I arrived neither were served.

shari s.

Yelp
Ribs are greasy and tough. Beans are canned. Cobbler and rolls are definitely not home-made as the waitress, Debra, who has a major attitude issue, said they are. She did not wear gloves to serve my food during a worldwide pandemic. French fries, which Debra recommended as "We peel the potatoes every day" are so bad I threw them out. They LOOK and taste like they've been sitting in grease for hours if not overnight. They are a blob, not individual fries. They are inedible. Everything is overpriced. I intentionally bought enough food ($50+) for a few days of the pandemic isolation & so looked forward to it. I would never go anywhere near there again and highly suggest that you spend your hard-earned- or not- in a pandemic at someplace reliable like "Ds" or "SJs" or "BAs'" Who needs additional problems from an "essential" restaurant during a worldwide pandemic? Many other barbecue restaurants are open and serving today, Saturday, May 2.
