The Best LGBTQ-Friendly Bars in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Back 2 Earth rose from the ashes of former queer hangout Local Lounge, keeping a robust calendar of events like dyke night, vinyl Sundays, and game nights. Food options range from fries and mozzarella sticks to more substantial fare like barbecue fried chicken sandwiches and burgers. The bar’s namesake cocktail is a fruity refresher, combining chamoy vodka and watermelon liquor with a Tajín rim." - Thom Hilton

Meet the Cooks Redefining What It Means to Eat at Portland’s Queer Bars | Eater Portland

"At the queer bar Back 2 Earth, Jay Maas—who moved to Portland after working farms and roadhouse kitchens in Alaska—has taken over as kitchen manager and launched a drag brunch program that features items like corn flake–crusted chicken and waffles (with “fresh fruit at every table”). Maas is planning a first‑birthday menu overhaul focused on American comfort with original touches, including poutine, mini vegan corn dogs, an arugula and shaved fennel salad with gluten‑free croutons, and caramelized onion dip with potato chips; Maas says caramelizing onions makes them “more puss” while cutting down on onion breath. Maas also swaps store‑bought aioli for one made with in‑house garlic confit, which he adds to a buttery tomato soup that’s paired with a grilled cheese that quickly became the bar’s best seller—personal, hand‑made details Maas says help ground the chaos of high‑volume nights like bingo and make the food about more than just soaking up drinks." - Thom Hilton

Incredible food and a gorgeous atmosphere. Dozens and dozens of live plants cover the walls. The services just as warm as the atmosphere. Food service aside. They have a really clean sound system that's hits pretty hard. Easily fills the space. Really clean with a full low end.

This is a cute little bar that I recently "discovered." Most often not very busy, so come with a friend or two until it picks up. The Tuesday Karaoke is really fun!

My partner and I went to Back2Earth. My partner is a black trans man and we experienced a lot of racism while there unfortunately. Examples being, coming to us last when asking for drinks even though we were up at the bar first. After a while of being there my partner and I went into the bathroom to pee together and I understand having a one person policy, but there was a group of 5 girls who went into one bathroom together, but we were the ones who the staff came to pound on the door telling us to get out. Doesn't make sense to me at all to do that to us and only us, but okay. We were really just not treated nicely at all, and we definitely noticed other people were being treated much kinder. Don't love that. There were lots of rumors about them being racist, but we wanted to see for ourselves.

Really great gay/queer space. Locally owned with a very laid back and fresh, eco modern vibe. The plant wall is very cool and makes the large, black open space much more friendly and tranquil. Two booths, several Large long tables for larger groups, tall round tables with stools for smaller groups, lots of standing room, and seating around the bar. The area near the front could also be a dance floor but I have never seen it used that way. Large video screens play popular shows and events. Separate smallish pinball, video game room. Nice, clean bathrooms for a bar Large, well stocked bar with friendly bartenders. They pour a reasonably strong cocktail and use premium mixers. Garnishes were fresh. Happy hour starts when they open (7PM to 9PM.) Small food menu but everything is reasonably priced, comes to the table quickly, is generously portioned, and better quality than most bar food. It looks like they have some fun drink specials. Different activities, and themes each night. Adequate parking on the side of the building. I really liked this place.

We meet some friends at Back2Earth for drinks and a bite. The staff were so friendly and efficient that our group had our drinks and food right away. Our drinks were excellent, skillfully made, and tasted yummy. The food was a hit for everyone, too. I look forward to heading there again!

Came here last night to watch the Drag Race finale. Unfortunately the way they have their tiny projection screen set up maybe 10% of the bar could actually see the screen. People around us were talking about going to different bars as it was an hour before viewing. Our table gave up and hit the liquor store next door, watched it at home instead on a TV that is literally the same size as their projection screen. Bar tender was very nice and the place is cool, just not set up at all for viewing parties. If they put the screen in front of the windows so the entirely of the bar could see it that would be a huge improvement.

Yelp
We were invited to view some art by someone we know so we stopped in for a drink and to check the place out. It was doing the typical Portland torrential rain when we got there and ended up parking in a public parking lot right next-door. It faces Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. so there really isn't anywhere to park unless you go to a street behind in the residential area and then walk all the way around the block. Upon entry, we quickly noticed the famous Portland airport carpet! If you know you know. The aesthetics in this place are wonderful. There are cute little random cactuses and different plants on the wall. The bar is beautiful and you can order just about anything you can think of there. They have a drink menu in on the other side, some foods and snacks. The food coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good, but we did not have anything to eat. We ordered a couple of cocktails and a couple of beers and they were wonderful. The bartender was so friendly and kind and fun. Had a really good time chatting with her. She told us a little bit about the place and the things they offered during the week. Their website will lay all of that out for you. We enjoyed the live DJ playing some great music, while we chatted with several people that we had just met. The environment was very friendly and fun! I'm not sure how often they do art shows, but it was really cool to see someone we knows art up on the wall. We will definitely return at some point.

Yelp
I'll start with the good. The plant wall was really cool and I loved the PDX carpet on entry. Lighting was fun and funky and decor was eclectic. I did like the vibe of the bar, although the music could have been better. There was two other tables in the bar on a Saturday night. Both were groups of three. The bartender could not keep up with making cocktails for all of us. Even if there are other cocktails to make, two vodka sodas do not take 10 minutes. I inquired about a food menu and was presented a handwritten sign. We decided we were going to be one and done and move on. Dream House bar right around the corner was cheaper per drink and much more attentive/polite service. I can't say that I'll be back anytime soon.
