Google
Great pizza! They were able to accommodate our large party on short notice. We were not disappointed. The gaming room was a great surprise. We were able to hang out and play some games and have some fun after dinner. I definitely recommend eating/playing here!

Kevin Schweiss

Google
Pizza was solid, garlic knots were really good. I ordered take out on what I didn’t realize would be a very busy night, so I ended up waiting a bit longer than expected. Even though I had to wait, the host was friendly and helpful, and so was the guy who brought my food out to the front. No complaints, just be aware they get busy on a Friday night!

Brenden Youtsler

Google
Pizza was great and there was an arcade in the back. Pictured are the Mac and Cheese bites and Buffalo chicken pizza. Atmosphere was very similar to Beau Jo's.

Google
This place exceeded my expectations. I am visiting Boulder and had the urge for pizza. Backcountry rang my interest. 1. lots of locals 2. clean and friendly 3. no fuss Pesto based pizza was our choice. The crust and dough were perfect. High quality ingredients Price was right as well Not too loud just right And leftovers tasted great

Lindsey Jones

Google
Mitchell was an awesome server, super friendly and attentive. Both the garden pizza and Buffalo chicken pizza was great. The beer selection is huge too. I personally like sour beers and they had plenty of options. We’ll definitely be back

Christine Cortvriendt

Google
Love the pizza from Backcountry! Usually order and take home but stay periodically or get a beer while waiting. On Friday, Feb. 14th I ordered a pizza online, assuming they would be busy and that it might be better to order online. The order was wrong, supposed to be a white sauce (due to a newly discovered tomato allergy). Because they were so busy it would take an hour to get a new one made so I just took it as is. When I got to my car James, the manager on duty had come out and knocked on my car window and told me he was sorry for the mixup and gave me a gift card. Whereas the order was incorrect, I always appreciate how someone tries to rectify the situation to make it a bit better. We will be back now because of this effort!

Google
Loved this place on my visit to boulder! Good beer selection, really good food, what else can you ask for from a local watering hole? Honestly, great vibe of bartenders, locals and tourists. Pizza is really really good, takes a while, so sit and have a beer (or two) while you wait. Would love to go back someday.

Eric Schulze

Google
Good beer selection. Service was quick and friendly. Pizza selection was good. Also had the smoked wings and jalapeno poppers, which were both excellent.

Mina P.

Yelp
Our pizza was huge and delicious-the beer selection was more than adequate-service was very good. I will definitely return!

Nicki M.

Yelp
We happened upon this place because we had some time to kill before a football game and it was close enough to walk. I found this place to be way better than the reviews! It was packed and I was able to grab the last table. Our server was efficient and friendly and checked on us multiple times. It wasn't trendy but a great laid back place to hang out and have a beer- which they had a lot to offer on tap. We ordered a pizza and I found it to be really yummy. The base was thick enough to hold all the ingredients but not too thick. The sauce had a nice flavor that married all the toppings together well. The crust was sort of braided and tasted so light and airy. I was impressed overall.

Yelp
Food: hands down the BEST garlic knots I've ever had. Ever. Well worth the 15 min wait. Salads are excellent and pizzas are solid with customizable options up the wazoo. (They don't even care if you do a half and half on a small pie! They encourage you, in fact.) Beverages: amazingly robust selection of beers (they have a beer cellar for large format beers, even). Coca-Cola products!! Woohoo! Service: as alluded to above, they are all super accommodating and kind. Bartenders, servers, expediters, hosts-- all are just really nice and good at their jobs. Ambiance: laid back and woodsy with pool tables and some clutch arcade games. We love the bar where we can watch the games, too. Bonus: SUPER reasonably priced and good music selection.

Yelp
Great place for pizza, beer & a game! There's a food runner named Chloe that is very professional and super helpful with a smile. All the staff was great but this young girl really stood out.

Steven S.

Yelp
Ordered a pizza to go at lunch time. They quoted me a time on the phone and the pizza was ready for pick up at exactly that time. That's big. The pizza itself was fine but nothing special. It looked excellent but flavor was only average. I am a pretty harsh critic of pizza and always looking for a great one. This doesn't sniff great but if you are just a pizza fan this will do the trick. I won't likely return here for pizza but the interior seemed like a fun place to hang out.

David A.

Yelp
Still one of the best craft beer selections you'll find. Had two great beers there. The pizza was also good. Local hangout. The outside could use a facelift, but once you get inside the staff will make you feel right at home.

Jason S.

Yelp
You won't be disappointed with this place. Great vibe and amazing beers Best pizza ever! The end

Claire L.

Yelp
We order take out pizza from this place so not sure about the vibe within the restaurant. But they have great pizzas and many different flavors to choose from. We loved that they actually put enough toppings on the pizza and not just make it like a cheese bread, so that you can actually taste the flavors of the food. Would definitely come here for my pizza cravings.

Michael S.

Yelp
Best pie in Boulder, so far! Great crust and toppings. Happy to have stumbled upon this place. Seems pretty cool inside.

Morgan A.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times usually after a long day of skiing for a hot slice of pizza. We love that Backcountry offers by the slice as well as full pies and other tasty appetizers. I love love love this crust. It's sweet and always cooked just how I like it, not too thick or doughy and not the charred crust some shops seem to go for. I got a single slice of pepperoni and sausage which hit the spot after a big day on the mountain. Now for the big news!! We stopped in yesterday afternoon and boy were we in for a treat. Backcountry was having Pliny the Younger day! I had never seen this beer in CO and have been following Russian River brewing after first hearing of the elusive Pliny the Younger triple IPA several years back. Knocked my socks off and i'm not usually a huge IPA gal. The bartender let us know that it was a super limited guest tap so hurry in for a taste! Great pizza, great beers on tap and awesome service! :)

Joey D.

Yelp
Delicious Food! Don't judge a building for the food. Our server was friendly and attentive. Starting with salads and the dressing was high quality which is a sign the rest of the food will be as well. Garlic knots were jumbo size and fresh. The pizza was so good! I said if we lived in Boulder this would be our weekly pizza place. Plenty of local beers on tap. It was a Wednesday night and they had trivia. Wish I could remember our servers name. She was blonde and really good to us. Highly recommend!

Liz K.

Yelp
Reviews are subjective, aren't they? Relative even. Do we add stars for an experience, an ambience, quality of the food and drink? If one of these is out of whack with our expectations, do the stars go down? Should they? If you want great food (FRESH, enormous Greek salad), beer (no flights - I get the dish-washing issue with all those tiny glasses), and a bartender who, despite being very busy, actually looks at you and discusses the merits of said salad and perfectly checks in at intervals to see how things are going ... if you want that, woohoo!! Don't come to Backcountry, at least not at the bar, without expecting to be part of the crew and privy to some staff hilarity, some under-the-breath complaining or snarky comments about their colleagues. This is not the first nor second example of this I've had in Boulder. College town? Fun over professionalism? Buddies at the bar? Go with expectations of some good grub and brew and get ready for being welcomed into the tribe. They'll share it all!

Christopher H.

Yelp
Met some friends here for lunch and it was excellent. TJ the bartender and the rest of the staff were friendly and attentive. The portions were huge and well priced. We enjoyed our meal, and I would definitely go back.

Ethan B.

Yelp
Prefacing by saying we stumbled on this place because they were selling parking spots for a Dead & Company show, which was $25 and came with a free $10 gift card to the restaurant. Tailgated in the parking lot for an hour and went it to grab food to make use of our gift card. Ordered spinach & artichoke dip & a cheese pizza. Spinach & artichoke dip tasted great. Good assortment of bread & veggies but wish it came with more bread (or chips). Cheese pizza was delicious, perfect crisp to it and was amazing. Wish we had more time to eat more appetizers or try some drinks! Service was a tad slow but I think that was more of the result of everything going on with the dead shows this weekend. All the waiters were hustling you just had to grab their attention. Prices were amazing, super reasonable. And the $10 gift card was the icing on top. Overall a great experience. Thank you backcountry!

Eli W.

Yelp
Well, the food is mediocre. Service is substandard. And the server had some sort of temper tantrum and called my wife a f-ing b$&#h. Needless to say we will never be going back. Plenty of much better pizza tap houses.

J B.

Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up. This is good college town pizza. It's not going to blow your mind. You'll get an inordinate serving of toppings on semi-correctly prepared bread, and you'll come back for the value and the familiar, comforting repetition of the food. They tend to be a little bit more consistent with the smaller pizzas than the giant sized ones. Honestly I like it here and order for pickup every couple months.

Aaron H.

Yelp
My father and I were in boulder when we stumbled upon Backcountry Pizza & Tap House. We were hesitant at first due to the exterior appearance. We arrived right at opening and we were greeted by a host of pinball games and a pool table. We ended up ordering a pepperoni pizza and a meat pizza. Onto the food! The pizza was extremely well made. Fresh ingredients, crunchy and an amazing crust created a deadly combo of taste. The slices were large and pretty cheap considering their size. I was in the mood to try the wings, but I decided to wait for my second go around to give them a try. This will be soon, as I plan on coming back! Overall, Backcountry Pizza was an amazing find and definitely higher than a three and half star. At least this is true to me! Worth the visit!

Alejandro L.

Yelp
"Don't judge the book by its cover" My family and I walked out of here highly impressed with the pizza we all ate! Crust is amazing! Excellent spices they have on the table are amazing! Only need just a dash. we had some sweet potatoes fries with some sauces to go with it. They were superb. I'd recommend getting a couple smalls or of you have a big party/family get a medium. The pizzas are huge! You can get a large for $2 more and two slices more than medium, but plan on taking some home as large pizzas might as well be called extra large. We'll definitely be back.

Amber M.

Yelp
Great spot for a post-hike lunch. Beer lovers will absolutely lose their minds over the selection, pages upon pages of beer. The two guys I had lunch with we're thrilled to be able to add more unqiue beers to their Untapped list. Get them in half sizes and sip til your heart is content. The pizza isn't the best gourmet but it'll do the trick, it's pizza so it's going to be good no matter what so long as there's cheese on it. The small size is a good portion for one person, I had to get a box. They seem to have good specials for students as well!

Andrew E.

Yelp
This was the first time I ordered from Backcountry. The hostess was basically nowhere to be seen, multiple people waited for more than 15-20 minutes because of their incompetence. My order took over 30 minutes for them to complete... not impressed

Bethani B.

Yelp
We were skeptical walking in because the restaurant side was completely empty during the day (more a bar than restaurant), but the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Michael H.

Yelp
The pizza here is good, but the real reason to come is for the friendly neighborhood ambiance, which is something Boulder, for the most part, doesn't possess. Backcountry is like a fun local hangout in your neighborhood. They have ample beer on tap, which is always appreciated. The staff is friendly and unassuming as is the clientele. I love this place and if you like hangouts, so will you!

Sheridan D.

Yelp
Happy hour was great and the garlic knots were delicious. Did open seating in the bar and the staff was very friendly!

Andrew E.

Yelp
Great pizza, sometimes crust is a little thick.. but still decent prices for what you get. Staff have been welcoming.

Glen S.

Yelp
I'm sure you have great pizza and hope to try it soon, but please don't cry about your stolen beer and supplies. Consider it a donation to people in need and keep things positive friends.

Sheyla T.

Yelp
Pizza was delicious! We had a half pepperoni and Mt Hawaiian large pizza. We ordered ahead to get it to go, and the pizza was ready as soon as we got in, which was about 15 minutes. The pizza smelled so good we could not wait until we got home, so we had a couple of slices on the way back. Definitely plan on going back for a dine in experience.

David B.

Yelp
If in Boulder Colorado it's never a bad idea to eat at this pizza place and while you're there you might as well have a beer or five! I sat here at the bar and had a fun time! This place used to be a sea food restaurant called Dolans. I liked this bartender a lot better than Snake the old bartender!!

Karen M.

Yelp
Everything was so good! First, this is during COVID and they were super safe and careful. Masks required, one person in the restroom at a time, floor marked for social distancing, QR code for menus. Our server...can't remember his name but he was from Findlay, Ohio...was awesome. Great suggestions, knowledgeable about the pizza and also the beer list, and funny. We ordered a large supreme pizza. It came out quickly and was gorgeous. Perfect amount of toppings, great crust, yummy cheese. Loved it! A couple of us ordered small caesar salads and they were also really good and very big (even for the small). Plus they had anchovies...you can keep them off if you don't like them, but I do and I was happy to get some. It seems like a lot of places don't have them anymore even on a caesar. The beer selection was really varied with lots of styles and breweries. The menu was separated by type and that is helpful. The bartenders were helpful in picking out a beer as well. Great place to stop for za and a brew.

Aaron R.

Yelp
What can I say? I enjoy a white tablecloth dinner just as much as the next person but, I really enjoy a cozy off-the-path place much better. It's full of locals and hard working people. The pizza was fantastic! The bartender was super kind and helpful. He even gave me some really great pepper flake samples to take home. Warning!!! If you use the extra hot pepper shaker, use it sparingly. Don't say I didn't warn you. We visit Colorado multiple times a year. We'll be back soon enough.

Lauren B.

Yelp
They make my all time favorite pizza so I am a bit biased but I love backcountry for family gatherings, pizza, and new beer releases. They always have an outstanding collection of beers and the buffalo chicken pizza is absolutely delicious. They are doing curbside pickup during COVID and it is just as good as take out and left overs. Can't wait to stop by this week!!

Valery L.

Yelp
Loved this cute little place with a huge patio, easy parking, and great service! I probably would not have stopped in were it not for learning through Instagram that they carry Peaceful Rebel vegan cheese...but I'm so glad I did. The pizza was fantastic and I love the "create your own option".

Kali C.

Yelp
Great food thank you so much. Very courteous and helpful. I come here often and am never disappointed

Denise J.

Yelp
We recently experienced unprofessional rude staff after a year or two of coming here with good service and with great people working here. The change in staff has unwelcoming at best. Businesses should appreciate their customers as they will always return to patronize your business and a Rude disrespectful staff will come and go on a dime. There are plenty of places to eat in Boulder so being customer oriented is critical and employees should understand this.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This place ROCKED for a Covid safe spot. Our server was incredibly kind and chatted with us a ton from a distance. SUPER SUPER yummy pizza that will leave you with a mountain of leftovers or feed a hungry family WELL. We loved using QR code's to view the food and the beer menu! Pandemic or no... keep that practice! Will. Be. Back.

Wilson R.

Yelp
We are just visiting Boulder, and during a severe wind storm, we stopped in and stayed. Great beers on tap and tremendous pizza! My son and I shared the Meatgrinder. We can't wait to go share what's left with Mom later this afternoon! I definitely recommend stopping here for a great meal and a nice beer.

Sara P.

Yelp
Note that Backcountry participates in Yelp cash back. They also participate in the Passport program, which shows that they are actively doing things to engage & attract customers--big thumbs up for that. I think it's important to point out that if you're looking for easy & casual dining with a large group, or looking for a place to eat with your family, this is not a bad spot to do it. The food is underwhelming, but not bad. It's a pizza place. It's a sports bar. It does an adequate job of being both of those things. I always judge the quality/creativity of a restaurant by its veggie sandwich. This was a situation in which the sandwich sounded so delicious on the menu--all of the components are things I love. However when all put together...it just doesn't work. The flavor is just not there. Half of this is my fault...really should've just stuck with what sports bars do best (beer. Pizza. Fried foods.) Reading through the previously posted reviews, I saw a lot of comments about the wait staff. Our waitress was nice. Not overly friendly, but nice. We were there around 5pm and it wasn't too busy so there was no wait. The only less than positive things I'll say is that they served the jalapeño poppers in a basket and didn't provide a side plate, and the busser was like a hawk (swooping in immediately and semi-aggressively as soon as we finished). Little scary. When you have SO many good restaurants at your disposal, it's hard to put backcountry up there, but I have to give them 4 stars when you're calling a spade (sports bar) a spade (sports bar).

Cait N.

Yelp
My family was in town on vacation and my brother-in-law who lives in Boulder took us here. O-M-G the pizza was phenomenal! 2 people split a large pizza and I had a small pizza for myself and there were left overs for everyone. I am not quite sure what the crust is or how y'all make it but KEEP IT UP! My father-in-law who is not a fan of change/trying new things wanted to go back the very next night to try more things. The service was also great and we were seated right away which was really nice for such a cold night. Wish I lived near this place to go more often - then again I am glad I don't because I would be broke and about 50lbs heavier.

Andy T.

Yelp
The burgers lived up to the recommendation we got. The meat was really good and the buns were spot on. The fries were excellent as well. I didn't give five stars because the food came out super duper late. The kitchen wasn't prepared to handle the number of people there.

Ariel A.

Yelp
Backcountry Pizza--the fact that you told me "no politics allowed at the bar" when I requested that the second night of the Democratic debate be turned on out of one of about 5 televisions playing sports is RIDICULOUS. This is likely the biggest election of our lifetime and the fact that young voters want to come out, drink a beer and be engaged in civics is looked down upon by your establishment is hard to believe. It speaks to the unbelievable amounts of entitlement in the Boulder Bubble that sports are valued above civic engagement. (I write this as a lifetime resident) not to mention-- the men smoking weed in your parking lot and your employees smoking cigarette out back-- really does NOTHING to aid your seriousness. Food was good. Beer was good. Nothing wrong there.

Sasha B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food and beer!!! Friendly bar and wait staff as well, which is always a plus. My favorites by far are: 1.) Bruschetta - fresh mozz, balsamic glaze lovingly drizzled on the bright and crisp veggies (recently discontinued BOO!), 2.) Arrogant Bastard Ale Cheddar & Onion Soup (I get this every time, regardless as to if I've already eaten prior to my visit), and 3.) The Psychopath - NY Strip steak bomb with all the fixins ooowee!. If I can make it in for lunch or Happy Hour I always get a half sandwich (Psychopath of course!), a side and soda. Fantastic deal!

Jonathan H.

Yelp
I wanna love this place. I really do. But disappointment is what they serve up best. Arrived on a Friday night about 7:30. Parking lot was half empty, which is to say they were not busy. We were at the host stand for nearly five minutes without anyone greeting us. They did have a booth for us which was nice, but it was another 10 minutes until we saw a waiter. Again, while not at all busy. The beer choices are good, at least. The pizza prices are reasonable but when you're charging $3.50 for one topping, it should be fresh spinach that I can see, not a few chunks of frozen chopped spinach buried under a pile of cheese. And $5 for about a half dozen artichokes? At least the jalapeños were fresh. But perhaps owing to the quantity of cheese, the pizza itself was underdone and even somewhat gooey towards the middle, with the edges not at all browned. If someone invited me here I'd ask if we could go somewhere else.

Brittany M.

Yelp
Great place to watch the game and chat with the staff while munching on their yummy food. I appreciate their food is consistent, the "meat grinder" is soooo good. Honestly everything is good, and so many beer selections including full bar. Great environment, great food, great service.

Keilan O.

Yelp
Food is solid. Got the meat grinder pizza, just didn't expect to be biting into ground bone.

Bailey B.

Yelp
Best gluten free pizza I have had. Delicious! We ordered a regular pizza for the rest of my family and they said it was delicious too.

Jonathan K.

Yelp
I was in the mood for pizza and a buddy recommended this place so we stopped by for lunch. I'm all about finding new pizza, but I'm not too familiar with pizza places in Boulder. I was told this was the best so I was excited to try it out. I can't say he was wrong because it was VERY good. We ordered a small works pizza and it gave us 3 slices a piece, which was about the right amount. The food came out relatively quickly and our server was very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be going back.

Blake S.

Yelp
One of the best sours ive ever had. We tried a few wing flavors and we were very impressed. Good atmosphere too

Peter W.

Yelp
I go here for trivia nights, and the beer selection is great. The food is another story. I've had the buffalo chicken sandwich, which was soggy and almost tasteless, and the meatball parmesan sandwich, which was first served as a chicken parm, and then when the meatball parm was finally brought out, it was room temp, formerly melted cheese and all. I've tried the pizza which is pretty good, and the fries are really good too. At the end of the evening I had to call for someone to come and take our cards and cash, as we were the last ones in the trivia room just sitting there like fools waiting for someone to take our money. Service overall was pretty shoddy. Wish there were a better place to do trivia on Wednesdays.

Maeli C.

Yelp
First time getting takeout from here and needless to say we probably won't be coming back. Order took over an hour and they forgot our wings. Ordered half pepperoni and half cheese and got all pepperoni. Tater tots were cold. Garlic knots were good but drenched in oil to the point where it drenched through the box. Very disappointed :(

Sara Z.

Yelp
They have a good selection of beers and ciders. I got the downeast cider, and it was light and tasty. We got the buffalo chicken pizza sub grilled chicken. It was good, but just too much cheese and not enough buffalo sauce and I also couldn't taste the blue cheese. Personally I love cheesy pizza, but this is just a bit over and it is not possible to lift up the slide of pizza without the cheese and toppings falling out. They also have a spacious outdoor patio. Overall I think the food is decent and a pretty good place to hangout over some pizza and beers.
