Backyard Grill

I decided to visit this place for breakfast and relaxation, to enjoy the food, service and atmosphere. What i liked: - friendly staff; - the place is pleasant to be in (not hot, not cold, not stuffy, not cramped); - the food tastes okay, not bad, but not wow either; - Prepared quickly. What i dont liked: - The price is too high for what I got; - the staff doesn't know how much desserts cost, when I asked about the cost they answered "well, somewhere around 7.99" in the end it was 10; - The doneness isn't quite right, I asked for medium well but got a hard well done with crispy edges; - a very small portion, they really skimped on the meat. It even felt like they took half the whites and yolks from my scrambled eggs; - there are no napkins on the table, when they brought the food they didn’t bring napkins either, and after I asked for napkins myself they didn’t bring only 3 small square ones and one wet wipe; - When I asked to bring me another tea bag, the waiter simply placed the tea bag without the wrapper on the dining table. I am 100% sure that the table is not so clean that what I am about to brew in a mug and drink is lying on the table. In the end, I won't come here again. Peace to all!

Ambience was nice. Greeted at the bar quickly, drink was brought to me fast. Order was perfect. Fresh and hot fries. The bartender who was wearing a Barkley jersey shook my hand as I left and told me thank you for coming. Was nice to have someone who displayed great customer service. Chicken Sandwich was great as well. Plenty of TVs to watch your sports, outside patio and bar with TVs as well.

The Backyard grill has been there a long time. The food we got today was good. Nelson was the server, and he was very good. The quality of food was very good, I would recommend the restaurant as it has many different choices of items on the menu. The menu was simple, with many easy to read items. I got a BYG burger it was really good and had a good flavor as well as portion sizing. The fries had a little bit of spice, and they were good as well. The steak and cheese were extremely large. The other person at the party got a pound of shrimp. We had no compliants of the food or the service.

Great Vibes & Delicious Food at Backyard Grill! Had a really good time at Backyard Grill! I tried the Backyard Caesar Salad, sweet potato fries, and pasta — and everything was fresh, flavorful, and spot on. The food definitely exceeded expectations. The place has a chill and vibrant vibe, perfect for hanging out with friends or enjoying a relaxed meal with family. With plenty of drink options available, it’s a great spot to unwind and enjoy good company. If you’re looking for a casual hangout with great food and a fun atmosphere, Backyard Grill is definitely worth a visit!

Backyard Grill helped me host a live music event and it was absolutely stellar. The staff is attentive and quick (and was able to handle a very large amount of people). The food was delicious, and the venue/outside patio is awesome. The calamari was delicious and is a steal especially on happy hour. I look forward to many more visits!

Haven't been in here in maybe 10 years, but in the past only to watch boxing fights. Decided to check out their dinner recently and it was surprisingly great food! Also, the vibe is like an old school local community restaurant/bar - with great customer service and very happy and inviting staff. The bartender will be excited to greet you on the way in and out even if he's not the one serving you. I will be coming here on a regular basis from now on. Thanks for the great dinner!

Cute bar with great service & delicious appetizers/drinks. There is a smoking area outside connected to the restaurant, so if you don’t like the smell of cigarette smoke, don’t sit near that area. Plenty of parking, several gambling machines inside, and clean atmosphere overall.

I got the grilled wings ($17) with garlic parm and hot (+$1 for split) and it was made in about 15 minutes. Wings were pretty average sauce and taste wise. Staff were very nice. And the service was quite quick on that Monday as the restaurant was quite empty. Overall alright food for a sport bar. I probably would only come back just for game days. Food(50%): 6.0 Staff/service(25%): 7.0 Value(25%): 7.0 Overall: 6.5/10

Food: fish with the fish and chips nothing more than fish sticks. Order a Cuban sandwich dry tasteless big piece of pork fat stuck in the middle. Extremely disappointed in both meals doubt I'll ever go back Six other people at the dinner, the person that ordered a rare stack it came well done. He had to send it back, but then he did say the rare steak was very good. Two other people got the margarita flatbread didn't give it a thumbs up put down. I can't remember what the other people got, but they were ambivalent about it. Glad I didn't choose the restaurant I was expecting a better meal though The owner requested the times we were there for the party of seven. Since you responded I arrived early sat at the bar young lady was very polite and engaging with everybody. My drink was fine and I appreciated the kindness shown by everybody. After being in northern Virginia for 49 years, we are always looking for new places to try. Somehow, we had never been here before. We were seated right away. Our server was Nelson who really knew the menu. Nelson is from Africa but grew up in Germany and speaks excellent German. But I digress. Jambalya and beignets were both on the menu; so my wife wanted both. Both were great. Jambalya had some spice but not a lot. The portion size was huge and we took at least half of it home for another meal. The beignets were the best we have found here; still not quite like Cafe De Monde, but great for a local alternative. I also ordered the fish and chips. Another giant portion with four pieces of fresh fish, fries, small corn on the cob that was nice and sweet and cold slaw. The only negative was that the bowl this was served in was not flat and it kept moving when I was picking up the food. All and all, a great experience. We will be back!

My husband and I came here for a Drink NOVA HH event. They have some good HH deals on drinks. What I will say is that they have a nice outdoor patio with a bar. The service here is really good and we're able to keep up with the amount of people that came out. I ordered a blueberry mojito and their Rueben that comes with fries. A group of us also took some shots. Staff and food here is great!

The food was what you'd expect at a sports bar and my server was excellent. I asked to eat out on the patio because it was a nice day out. What I wasn't aware of is that they allow smoking at the bar on the patio. Three patrons were smoking right in front of the bar tender and it ruined my appetite. If I go again I won't be sitting outside. I feel like a sign or something stating that they allow this or telling me before seating out there. I felt incredibly uncomfortable asking to move to be away from all the smoke blowing in my direction. It killed it for me.

Very nice atmosphere. The service was good. Food was ok. Didn't like the smell inside so we came outside. Love the outside vibes. Mimosa were great!! I had the chicken and waffle was decent portion.

Nelson carried this entire experience. Artichoke dip was 2/5 would not order again. California burger came in a little overcooked but the fish and chips were good. Service was great. Honestly about the quality id expect from a place like this. The outdoor patio was nicely decorated. The star was definitely Nelson he was personable and had our party laughing, also extremely attentive.

Good deserts and great drinks. Had two of these and they were on point. Service was great.

My husband and I used to come to Backyard for food and drinks a lot before kids. The most that I see of the place now is lunch with our kids. Our server, Tasha was excellent and so attentive and made sure our kids felt comfortable. My youngest ordered a kids cheeseburger and fries and my oldest ordered an omelette. I ordered the Ka Pow tacos and a Caesar salad and my husband ordered the steak tacos. All the food was prepared well and tasty. We wrapped up the meal with a lava cake with ice cream. They don't have a large number of people in for lunch, but I recommend more people check them out. They have good food.

Nachos: Look you gotta understand, plating nachos is an art. Every time I am presented with a plate of nachos I am closer to understanding why Van Gogh lost his mind and cut off his ear. You look at something and you can feel its potential. This plate had potential. It could've used salsa and guac, maybe a different hotter cheese, veggies could've been diced smaller, tortilla chips could've been thicker. It was fine but it could've been great. All else: bartender ladies were so sweet they must've been heaven sent. this place is a hidden gem with so much potential, it seems to have the 40s+ crowd.. maybe because it's located in a residential area, not close to the city or a university. They have it all: TV's, arcade games, live music. They can definitely do more to bring in the younger crowd. Maybe hire young bands as well, have game nights, collaborate with universities, etc. If I lived closer I would be kicking back here daily.

Once again was so nice to be at Backyard on Chantilly, live music and food were amazing but the service was outstanding thanks Nelson, our server, for make our nigth special. 7/19/25

We went with my friends to get some drinks there and were so disappointed. First, they don't have prices for the cocktails on the menu, which is really weird, and the waiter didn't know the prices when we asked him. He said maybe around $17. Then he came back and said it's $13 for a blueberry mojito, $10 for a regular mojito, and the same price for a non-alcoholic mojito, which doesn't make any sense; it should be cheaper. Anyway, we ordered our cocktails, and this is what we got. I've never had such a poor portion of mint in my mojito, and we couldn't taste alcohol in the cocktails at all. The ambience wasn't bad, however, it would be nice for them to have some cushions on the chairs so sitting there won't hurt you.

Dave and the rest of the bartending crew absolutely rocked Saturday night during the Drink NOVA Meetup with INVASION! Great energy, fast service, and fun vibes all around. Such a great spot--I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Nice outdoor covered patio. Inside a large round bar, full bar with plenty of seats. Very neighborly, many seem to know one another. Happy hours daily. Music and lots of socializing going on.

I was staying in chantilly and this one was walkable distance from hotel. Nice location . There are so many other restaurants and Indian bazaar in this complex . Lots of parking outside . Best thing is - it is open till midnight and not many bars around this locality . Service was a bit slow .. there was a bday party or some party finishing and everyone was busy cleaning that . Wish they just served me beer and then do their stuff. Got a blue moon and it tasted ok. It wasn't as cold or was as good as the ones in Buffalo wings or other bars. Ambience was ok. Some heavy music going on ... I think I should have sat outside . It looked better .. inside the bar it was very average . Overall an average experience...

Last time I was at Backyard Grill was around 1996 when I was driving for Airborne Express on Sullyfield Circle. Kid's dad asked me to lunch for nachos. I suggested Backyard Grill because its on his side of the world out there near Centreville. There's a lot of good places to eat over here now a days. I was impressed with the changes. I'll have to check them out! -We walked into Backyard Grill and were seated right away. Everyone was smiley and very nice. They had a lot of TVs and a huge bar. Lots of room in there. They also have a large area for outside seating. -Look at these nachos. Near perfection! Large amount. Between me and kid's dad, we ate them all. Then we weren't hungry for anything else. I wanted to try a couple dishes but those nachos were great and filling. Every peice of chip had cheese or beans on it. $3 extra for the Guacamole. It was good. Fresh jalapeños! I love when they are fresh cut and crunchy green. I also ordered a Kentucky Mule. This Mule had bourbon, ginger beer and lime. It was delicious. Dare, I say better than my Mexican Mule and even better than my Moscow Mule. We had a great day here eating nachos and sippin' on drinks. Maybe we'll come back to try more one day.

Hey, their Mr. Freddy, I want to start out saying you are a compulsive liar Also if you checked those cameras like you said you did you would've saw me and co-workers get up and get a different sever after going inside an speaking with a manager behind the bar about the disrespect we have received and she got us a new server. So, I couldn't have shorted her on my bill if I never started a ticket with her. Also, I tipped the new server that took care of us along with the others that was with me. For you to type of lies like a kid because I didn't want to give you my number for you to say the same lies you just typed out over the phone and definitely not meeting you in person.No sir bad service=Bad review

What a pleasant surprise! We were transients here and looked for American food. The grill looked okay. My partner said her fajita was as good as she had in San Diego. My ribs were excellent. Beignets for desert were a real treat highly recommended.

The meal was fantastic! The chef is exceptional. Our server Natasha was on point, attentive and friendly. First visit. Will definitely be back!

Service was horrible, and the manager was rude. My friend found glass in her drink, and they did not want to take responsibility. We literally heard the bartender drop a glass over at the bar before her drink came to the table.

Food was fantastic, cooked well without the greasyness of most restaurants. Kids loved their quesadillas and portions were good! Fajitas were also delicious. Will definitely be back here!

I ate outside while waiting on my car at Lexus. I ordered a turkey burger with their regular seasoned fries. The food was delicious. The waitress was very helpful on describing the highlights of the menu. the restaurant was clean and plenty of seating, no waiting. When you walk in, they tell you sit wherever you want to. This is rare compared with other restaurants.

A nice place to dine in with plenty of items in the menu. The place is spacious with comfortable seatings and a bar with wide screens to watch sport events. The property has a terrace for outdoor dining. The ambiance inside the restaurant was great and luckily it wasn't crowded once I popped in. The server was very courteous and professional. I enjoyed the food and I'll surely come back again.

We recently went here to eat and enjoyed our experience in the restaurant, thus my previous good review. Since the food tasted so good before, we decided to order delivery from here today. My husband and son ordered two different burgers and although the burger patties were tasty, the burgers were ruined by nasty old lettuce and very soggy dripping buns. I think the burgers were too soggy from being put in the styrofoam containers, but no excuse for the old wilted dark lettuce. I had fish and chips and they were tasty although they could have been crispier. The tartar sauce was good. We also had chicken tenders and onion rings and those were all yummy. Food arrived in a good time and all that we ordered arrived.

The Backyard Grill was pretty busy and there was a local band playing. It was loud. Our server was excellent and the food was good as well. Restrooms were clean and there was plenty of available parking. Overall it was a very enjoyable evening.

After a long day at the Dulles Expo, my husband and I were exhausted and wanted something good. This was about 5 minutes away so we stopped in. It was a sports bar environment, televisions with sports and a nice selection of music made for a nice dinner. I am normally good about capturing a photo of my food, but I can tell you the portions are plentiful and everything was delicious. I had traditional wings (garlic parmesan) which came with celery and blue cheese dressing. My husband had the cheesesteak and fries. Our wait staff was warm and welcoming. They have a variety of options for everyone, a full bar and some yummy looking desserts. We will definitely be back.

Food was terrible, cardboard veggie burger, tasteless turkey burger, fries dusted in old bay powder, even their famous fajita was not well seasoned and the rice not freshly cooked. They even have the nerve to charge 3% for using a credit card.

A friend invited me to join a band of acquaintances for a quick night out after work. I'm almost certain this is the first bar in Chantilly I've visited since the pandemic began four years ago. Super interesting experience when you're with a regular. There are drinks on the table before you even see a menu, so you just *know* your bartender's been doing his job there even before NASA demoted Pluto from the solar system's planet lineup. Speaking of lineup, there are TVs located right above your noggin running sports ads, and sudden sounds of metal or glass crashing every ten minutes. (Hopefully metal.) I've got an auditory sensitivity thing and I can't linger anywhere for long when cigarettes makes me sick, so tonight was a two hour struggle. Who cares -- I chose to go out. (and i loved the dim lighting!) The food is also really fun. I was pleasantly surprised to see a plate of Mussels and a Grilled Salmon on the menu, both around $20. Both very easy to share. Added bonus that our dual bartender/server was as accommodating as humanly possible. I drank so much ice water. Cons: - Deafening karaoke night, eating area saturated with the smell of cigarettes. People will unabashedly touch your shoulders. Regulars will lock eye contact with you and Start Walking In Your Direction. People sometimes don't adhere to the non-smoking area. Slightly concerning that young people don't get ID'd more carefully. You will come home smelling like the crumbs in my air fryer. Pros: - If you haven't experienced a middle-aged white man in a neon orange jersey belt "Hey There Delilah" in near perfect pitch, this is a good karaoke moment. This experience is sweetened by the fact that the last 15 minutes have broken your ears and mind with appalling renditions of "Uptown Funk" and "Sweet Alabama." Savor it while you can. - This feels like a tight-knit community. A lot of people here are intensely friendly and casual. It is very easy to feel welcome here if you're open to the interaction. Heartwarming experiences abound. - Beautiful trees and patio lights surrounding the open outdoor seating area. Very animal crossing (nintendo switch) vibe. Parking is also straightforward. - Way better restrooms than I expected. Only two stalls, but still.

A great selection for lunch or dinner or a night out, especially on the patio in the spring/summer. Staff and servers are always friendly and helpful, and the food is amazing. The nachos, quesadilla, fajitas, and salmon are delicious. Quality food and service.

This is a local sports bar frequented by locals. The food was excellent specifically the grilled wings. This is a decent size place with inside and outside seating. The service was attentive and prompt. The establishment is part of a plaza with other restaurants and shops with ample parking. There are TVs surrounding the large bar in the middle of the establishment. The ladies room was clean which was a plus.

It is evident when you walk in and are greeted by the stale cigarette smoke leftover from years gone by, that you've entered a bar. The walls are in need of repair and updating. Seeing a raccoon and other wildlife cartoon figures on the walls reminded me of when I took my son to Chucky Cheese. It might be a good place to watch a game and eat bar food. The reuben sandwich was soggy on the bottom and lukewarm. There was a watery sauce oozing off the sandwich making the fries soggy. The cheeseburger was average as were the cheesesticks.

I stopped in for happy hour with friends... The bartender was very helpful and friendly and they have some decent options for drinks. They also have decent bar/pub style eats here. The place is rather decent size, so you can sit inside or outside at bars or tables.

Had the Cuban sandwich at lunch today, which was pretty good. I won't be going back since this establishment has a "service fee" policy to charge for using a credit card. I didn't see any notice on the menu about the charge and the practice certainly wasn't very prominently displayed. I see in another response that the owner thinks a lot of businesses add a fee for credit cards. In my experience it is very rare. There are plenty of other restaurants that haven't resorted to sticking the customer with a processing fee. I'll be taking my business to those places.

Been going to Backyard for years always great food and service. If you're in the area stop by.

Went there on a Sunday evening for family dinner. Overall, it was "fine". Last time there was several years ago for a happy hour. I appreciate that the owner/representative is on Yelp and responds to comments. Food was fine as bar food goes. Broad menu. As mentioned in another review, no cocktail prices on the menu. Curious that there's an upcharge listed on the menu for getting fries with Old Bay, but that's apparently how they come by default as a side when with a burger or sandwich (w/ no upcharge, but also not described that way on the menu). Service was fine. Two inconveniences were that we waited longer than expected for drinks/refills and had to flag down the server to get our check. Ambiance was ok. Large outside area that we thought would be nice to take advantage of on a summer evening. There was a band outside which made things very loud and we had to shout to our table-mates, even though we sat as far away as we could. They allow smoking outside which seems to be a popular thing to do. We thought about requesting to move inside because of the band and smoke, but decided to stick with staying outside. Overall rating would've been a 4 if not for the unexpected 3% "Service Fee" attached to the check without explanation or description, which is honestly what drove me to write this review in the first place. It's apparently for using a credit card, which is interesting since it was on the check when it was handed to us and not after I let them know how I'd be paying. I consider it to be a deceitful way to charge customers more for the cost of doing business (vs. a straightforward way like raising menu prices). (And hey, if I missed the large print on the menu that described what this charge was for and that it would be applied automatically to your bill and could be removed by paying cash, then I guess that's on me. And my wife, too, since she missed it also.) But why not charge more for those sitting inside and using A/C, or a cover for those sitting outside and listening to the band, or whatever cost of doing business you're trying to recoup? It obviously hits a nerve of mine, and I don't expect to return to a business that does it.

Drinks were good Service was fast and attentive food was good. About what you expect from a sports bar. I will return Lots of TVs available for watching the games

Philly Steak was dry but tasty however the service level is outstanding! Great place to watch games and they even have Poker leagues every Tuesdays. Overall: Great place to hang out with friends!

Backyard Grill's covered patio provided a comfortable, spacious setting for our 70-person party with delicious appetizers, yummy burgers of all varieties and great speciality beverages. Our servers were super helpful and left no stone unturned in ensuring each and every participant was attended to in a timely, thorough and warm way.

Food was good, service was fast and friendly and the atmosphere was everything you'd expect in a sports bar. Plenty of TVs visible from just about any part of the room. Downside - expensive, and although they have a place for a band to set up, it is certainly not a band venue. There is no place to sit near the band, or even where they are visible, so I won't go back for music. Final verdict - if you're looking for someplace to hang out, grab a few beers, and watch sports on TV, then this place is great. If you're going for any other reason, maybe choose another spot.
