Bad Martha Farmer's Brewery & Tasting Room is a craft brewpub and biergarten that opened in Edgartown, Massachusetts (Martha's Vineyard) in June 2014. It was founded by Jonathan Blum and Peter Rosbeck. The Bad Martha brand was initially launched as a contract brewing entity in December 2012. They brewed beer out of Mercury Brewing in Ipswich before building their own facility. The name of the brewpub is a reference to a legendary mermaid with jet black hair and a devilish grin (the brewery's logo). Peter Rosbeck left the business in early 2019 to pursue other ventures. A second location opened in Falmouth, Massachusetts (Cape Cod) in September 2019. Blum hopes to open a third location in the coming years (perhaps in Connecticut).
My family and I visited Bad Martha recently when we were on a vacation to Cape Cod. We went for a long family bike ride on the Shining Sea Bikeway and decided to stop at the Falmouth location afterwards for lunch. They had a really nice facility and outdoor biergarten. For drinks, my wife ordered their Watermelon Hard Seltzer and I ordered a flight consisting of a Light Lager, an ESB, a Stout, and a Belgian Quad. We enjoyed our drinks. My wife later ordered a second seltzer and I ordered a full pour of their 508 IPA. We were pretty hungry and decided to order some pizzas: "Beer Bacon" (Signature Red Sauce & Cheese Blend, Bacon Marinated in Bad Martha Beer) and "The Sarah" (Beer Cheese Base, Signature Cheese Blend, Cheddar Cheese, Breaded Chicken, Jalapenos, Bacon, Ranch Drizzle).
Unfortunately, one of the servers accidentally brought our pizzas to the wrong table (who ate almost half of them before they realized the mistake). The staff apologized and offered to make us new pizzas free of charge. They assured us it would only be another five minutes. After 25 minutes, we still didn't receive our pizzas. After checking with the staff again, it appeared that our order did not go through to the kitchen. We eventually received our pizzas, but it took much longer than it should have. We really enjoyed our drinks and the pizzas were delicious, but the whole mix-up with the pizzas left a bad taste in our mouths. We stayed at Bad Martha probably an hour longer than we would have simply because our pizzas came so late (and its really hard to keep an impatient toddler occupied during that whole time). I would love to give Bad Martha a higher rating, but the problems with the service can't be overlooked. A few days later, my family and I were cycling in Martha's Vineyard and we cycled past the Edgartown location. We didn't go in though; we already had lunch plans elsewhere.
