16 Best Restaurants on Martha’s Vineyard | Eater Boston

"This local brewery makes ales, lagers, stouts, and other beers inspired by the surrounding landscape. Their classic Martha’s Vineyard ale is brewed using island grape leaves, English malt, and American hops for a unique local flavor. At their Edgartown brewpub, you can sample the beers or a selection of housemade hard seltzers while snacking on charcuterie boards and pizza." - Celina Colby

Came in on a rainy night needing some good food that wasn’t outrageously priced and was super satisfied. The pizza was awesome (we got a pepperoni well done) and the service was polite and speedy. There’s virtually no places in MV with great reviews for pizza so definitely will be coming back with more friends the next time we visit.

Probably some of the best pizza I’ve ever had!! And it’s a great spot to go to after a bike ride from Bluffing Point

Bad Martha’s is the perfect laid-back hangout. The pizzas come out fresh and hot, the beer is top-notch with tons of variety, and the whole place is super family-friendly. Inside, it’s cozy with a great bar setup, and outside you’ve got comfy seating with a lot of green surrounding you, plus plenty of space for cornhole. Whether you’re posting up for a chill afternoon or just grabbing a quick pint and a slice, it’s always a good time at Bad Martha’s.

I'm glad we made this stopover at Bad Martha's on Martha Vineyard. The only main brewery on the island it was a must-try. With plenty of beer selection, we chose to do a flight. My favorites were their Belgian Quad and Oyster stout. As for food, oh boy, I highly recommend ordering their pizza, plenty of oozy goodness, and they don't cheap out on cheese. Perfect marriage of beer and pizza. Service was exceptional and plenty of outdoor seating on a lovely summer's day.

Amazing pizza, good beer and the best service in a beautiful setting! Like a little slice of heaven!

Bad Martha has been one of our frequent stops when travel to the Vineyard. It’s been quite a few years since we stumbled upon what was a new solid wood construction barn nestled just on the outskirts of downtown Edgartown. Today it still brings joy to settle up with a cold local brewed beer. The structure is immediately adjacent to a local nursery where the scenery is that of an eclectic garden with plant-life just surrounding the quaint patio where both locals & tourist will gather outside to chill & have a refreshing beverage. What a relaxing afternoon or evening to join family & friends. The beer selection is often a rotational effort that may boast a Pale Ale, Helles, Stout, Porter, or even something a bit more experimental. Typically about 7-10 variations or so to choose from & on visit 7/6/2021 they even had a locally sourced ingredient, house made strawberry mint seltzer at 6.4 ABV on tap for light fare. As of recent they have begun to expand their charcuterie & cheese plates snacking to include house made pizza & a variety of luncheon & munching options. If you find yourself in town stop by, have a beer, & tell-’Em Scotty sent ya!

Google
Best pizza I’ve had in a while. My family ordered two pizzas: one cheese and one taco. Cheese pizza is fairly fundamental and they hit high marks in all categories here. Excellent sauce flavor, crust is just crispy enough but not burned, corn meal adds great texture, cheese is perfect. Taco pizza isn’t something I’d normally order but I was impressed when I tried it. The composition is a regular crust, topped with tomatoes, seasoned ground beef, olives and covered with crushed up Doritos. On the top goes a layer of letucce and a chipotle ranch drizzle. It’s good, trust me. They also have a brewery (that’s like the main point). I don’t drink but I heard it’s good.

Yelp
What a place! After a hike and some touring around Oak Bluff, we took the bus to Edgartown and stopped directly at Bad Martha's. We had seen others enjoying pizzas at their Falmouth location and determined that we had to try a pizza. We settled on a beer bacon pizza and some beers. My wife had their Vineyard summer Ale and I had their 508 IPA. It was all incredible! The perfect ambiance for a relaxing afternoon and delicious food after lots of steps and a morning in the hot sun, walking around the island's sites.

Yelp
We've been wanting to go here for several years and finally went with some family members last week. It's a very beautiful spot, in an old barn, surrounded by all the flowers and plants of the adjacent nursery. There's lots of outdoor seating and a couple of games for kids as well. This place would have been great had any service been provided, but there was essentially ONE person working the entire patio. When we arrived, we put in an order for a couple beers with a runner, and *20* minutes later someone else came out only to say that the keg was kicked for those beers. Great! So we went with the summer ales, which miraculously managed to arrive in under 10 minutes. They were good enough. The pizza is OK: thin crust, basic, but nothing that is going to impress you. It's fine. Same with the pretzel bites. So, of the two things we tried, the food seems decent. We'd like to try to go again to have a better experience and be able to say better things (oh, they did have an awesome JAWS 50 display out front!) but we're currently feeling a bit put off. HIRE AND SCHEDULE more staff! We'll see if/when about next time...

Yelp
Great vibe, pizza and beer! Love all the outdoor seating and staff was attentive and kind. We got some beers and started with the cheesy bread. Then we did the margarita pizza added red sauce. Big pizza to share!

Yelp
I finally experienced Bad Martha's. We visit MV every year and the kids always look forward to Bad Martha's for pizza and beer. It was much more than I expected. Great atmosphere, we sat outside. My grand daughter (her first time too) had plenty of things to occupy her. Waitress was awesome and always checking in. Pizza was really good. Had the sausage special and a pepperoni. They had a really goodd ne beer from Zero Gravity for me. Others enjoyed Bad Martha's own brews. A great visit. I'll be back

Yelp
This is a fun brewery with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. They have a good selection of summer beers. The staff are very friendly.

Josh S.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere and friendly service, but the food really missed the mark. Pretzel bites tasted like frozen snacks, boneless wings were cold and seemed like reheated Tyson, and the pesto chicken pizza had dry shredded chicken and bland, mushy tomatoes--not plum. Disappointing overall.

Yelp
This was such a fun place. It was packed on trivia night. It took an hour for our pizza to come out. This was told to us when we ordered that the wait on a pizza would be over an hour. The beer options were yummy and cool. They don't have other drink options. The cheese board was giant. Definitely shareable for 4 people. Really delicious though. The pizza was good but it wasn't the best pizza considering the long wait. The crust wasn't that great. The outdoor seating area was really nice. Service was good as well. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Such a beautiful, and relaxing place to have a beer. The weather was perfect when I went and everyone working is very nice. I got a flight with - Vineyard summer ale , Wit or witout, Martha's Vineyard ale, and Citromic bomb. This place did have a couple darker options but not many. Not sure if they change the menu around but if you're a dark beer drinker, I'd say still come and enjoy this place- it's very peaceful. They serve food but we didn't get any when we were there. The place is right next to a nursery so it's very pretty to sit and watch the plants. They also have a few non-alcoholic options which is always great to have. Overall if I'm back on the island, I'm definitely coming back to this place!!

Yelp
Such a beautiful and relaxing place to have a beer. The weather was perfect when I went with my in-law over the summer. The energy was very laid back and inviting. The establishment was busy and live music was playing, which made us take a seat. We decided to order a pizza and a few beers for happy hour. I ordered the Vineyard Summer Ale. It was extremely refreshing and crisp. It was the perfect beer to sip on while sitting next to the nursery and admiring the plants next door. We got our pizza and quickly gobbled it down - between the four of us. It was really nothing to write home about, but we weren't necessarily there for the food. One thing that was disappointing was the service. While I am totally understanding of being busy and taking their time to approach us, I am an advocate for at least identifying that we are there. We spent 30+ minutes waiting on even an acknowledgement. It came to the point that my husband actually went up to the bar for drinks. Next time on Martha's Vineyard, we will likely try a different establishment.

Yelp
An absolute must-visit when you're in Martha's Vineyard. They have lots of beer options, including flights. The pizza is also super tasty. There's plenty of outdoor seating with a great playlist in the background. Everyone working was very friendly and we were served quickly. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I was not impressed with the beer here as it was not memorable and I don't recall the names. Our bartender was a bit short and not super friendly which was unfortunate. The theme is awesome and the outside seating is cozy and quaint. My sister in law really enjoyed the beer so maybe you will to. Definitely worth a stop in for the cuteness of the place.

Yelp
We ended our trip on island here and so glad we did. the staff was beyond friendly, the manager even brought out a doggie bowl with water for our pup. The beer flights (4 beers) were perfect. We got the beer bacon pizza- YUM! Overall a great place, atmosphere and definitely recommended

Yelp
Bad Martha's is such a fun and beautiful spot to enjoy some great beer, play some games, and enjoy your company. The staff was super helpful and let me sample the beers before making my selection. They were unfortunately unable to pour the lager the day I was there but I really enjoyed the summer ale since I'm not an IPA gal. The pizza looked great but we had dinner after and didn't get anything to eat. We also went for some music Memorial Day weekend but found out the hard way that the fun events were for the Falmouth location. Live music would have been perfect but it was a beautiful day and we played Jenga and made the most of it! It's also next to the cutest nursery with the most beautiful plants surrounding the area. Great vibes all around!

Yelp
I love that this place is attached to a plant nursery, so so cute! We rode our bikes, plenty of bike parking in front. Lots of cozy seating options outside. We got beers and pizza. The 18" pizza is bigger than 18", so yum! I got the lil mermaid seltzer, very refreshing and comes with maraschino cherries on the bottom.

Yelp
This brewery was a hidden gem tucked away in a small town, we were on our way to the winery and took a quick look and honestly thought it was a strip club (adult gentlemen's club) until we left and my wife mentioned about this brewery and we pulled up and said it's not a strip club. This place is nestled right outside of Martha's Vineyard. This brewery has an interesting story, when English explorer Bartholomew Gosnold led the first European expedition to Cape Cod in 1602, he said that he encountered a mermaid named "Bad Martha" who guided him to an ingredient that he ended up using in a batch of ale for his crew. Bad Martha's still uses that ingredient to this day, but the brewery is also not afraid to experiment to create new, innovative beers like a jalapeno-cucumber lager or a dark IPA -- a blend of an IPA and a porter. This place had an awesome vibe to it. The beer were amazing. I loved the Pale Ale more than the Hazy IPA and took (2) 4 packs home to Pittsburgh, PA with me. Great service. Cheers!!

Yelp
I was really disappointed with this place. The beers weren't good, tasted flat, prices were way too high, and the servers/bartenders weren't friendly - they came off as annoyed and unwelcoming. I'm going to give this place 2 stars instead of 1 because of the ambiance - very lovely outdoor area, had a garden feel. I'd recommend skipping this place and going to a brewpub instead.

Yelp
This review is for take out pizza. We called around 6 pm on a Tuesday evening and ordered one 18 inch pizza, half pepperoni and half mushroom. $26. It was ready for pick up at 7pm. The hostess told me it was trivia night (from 6-8) and that is the reason pizza takes an hour to make. It was very good pizza, but the toppings were stingy. If they were more generous with the toppings, this would have been 5 stars. We would have eaten inside, but they don't serve wine, so we opted for take out.

Yelp
We stopped here during a bike ride around Martha's Vineyard. Beers were very good. The place has good atmosphere and plenty of seating. We ordered a pizza, a lobster roll and a pretzel. I give it four stars because the service was a little rough. The servers/bartenders were nice but seemed quite aloof and not very well organized. Our pizza was forgotten, we had to ask about it and finally we revived it much later than our other food. All the food was very good. Luckily we got a lobster roll because we were informed that they only had one left (it was noon??). So in the end good food, good beer, ok service.

Yelp
Great veggie pizza! Love the setting, friendly staff, Donarama's nursery next door and relaxed outdoor area.

Yelp
This review is just for the pizza. Quick and easy thin crust pizza made with good ingredients. When it comes to pizza in Edgartown this is the best option you have!

Yelp
The pizza is tasty and some of the beers are good but the service is usually quite poor. I have ordered from Bad Martha's a few times and it has always taken an excessively long time for my order to be ready (2-3 hours for a couple of pizzas.) The one time I did dine-in the service was terrible. First, when I ordered a beer flight I was told AFTER I ordered that 3 of the beers I wanted were unavailable. When I asked my server if I could just order a full-sized beer instead, she said "no because they already poured the first sample of beer" which I thought was quite rude. I ended up ordering a beer that I didn't like, and I politely asked the waitress if she could give me a different sample because I was unhappy with it (it was one I was forced into ordering since the others weren't available.) She said "uh okay I will go check" and proceeded to avoid our table the rest of the night. I had to get up and get it myself from the bar, and it wasn't even a problem for the bartender. Once the waitress delivered our pizza (after an hour and a half of waiting) she never came back to our table and we had to actually ask another server for our check. It felt very odd and I know I'll never be back for dine-in As for the actual pizza - it's really good. It is a very thin pizza and it's easy to eat. I will say, however, that the pizza gets cold rather quickly which makes it not taste good. Just be prepared for that. If you're looking for good pizza takeout and have some extra time to wait, this place is a good one. But don't expect good or fast service.

Yelp
I've been looking forward to going to this brewery since I read about it a few days before I got on the island, and I wasn't disappointed. When I got there, I asked the bartender about their beer. So, I described what kind of beer I like, so he recommended their beer called 508 and an order of pretzels. Great Beer! The decor is casual and laid back. The brewery itself is connected to a farm with plenty of parking. Before I left, I picked up a few things from their merch store.
google avatar

Doug L.

Yelp
Fun outdoor place. They make their own beer. The summer ale was great. They had about 8 choices. Got a pizza to eat. The sauce and toppings were good. Got the cauliflower crust. Mistake. It was pre made and under cooked. Get their regular Fun vibe. Give it a try.
google avatar

Morgan K.

Yelp
Great drinks and good food especially considering some breweries have no food options. Highly recommend a flight. The pizza was satisfactory and the staff was very friendly. The outside seating area is clean and very nicely decorated with cute lighting. Dogs are allowed as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Not our first time here! Came back again for beers and trivia. Their appetizers are great, we got pretzels and pizza. Will be back again! Would reccomend to a friend!

Yelp
We found the back patio, surrounded by pretty and large nursery plants in bloom, to be stunning. We sampled and loved their banana bread beer, honey lager, original recipe, peach one, and two of their IPAs. We biked in after a day biking out to Chappy. What a place for celebrating our wonderful day. We highly recommend Bad Martha's tasting barn and patio as a great experience. Started in 2014, Bad Martha farmhouse brewing is truly special. Cheers! Aug 2020 UPDATE Returned for my 4th or 5th visit. Still excellent. Passed their gigantic Falmouth place. Looked successful too. So glad it is grand to be BAD at Bad Martha's. PS Good COVID protocols too. Cheers again.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was so cool and had awesome games and seating areas! However we didn't really like the beers! Our favorite was probably the 508 IPA which was okay but the rest weren't great. Would definitely recommend stopping here though because it had great service and the food looked pretty good!
google avatar

Rozet S.

Yelp
Great brewery, amazing food, and kind staff. We loved our time at the brewery! Staff was attentive and gave us great recommendations for drinks. My husband ordered a couple of beers and I enjoyed the pizza. Their 18 inch thin crust pizza is HUGE! Definitely enough for 4 people. It was sooo delicious! Would definitely come back here just for the pizza
google avatar

Theresa C.

Yelp
I was concerned about not having enough food with the meat and cheese but it exceeded my expectations! Wonderful meal and beer. Pizza was yummy as well.
google avatar

Hakan G.

Yelp
We ordered 2 pizzas for kids (1 cheese with sauce , 1 cheese without sauce ) Both pizzas arrived burnt like a brick ; literally you could throw the pizzas like a frisbee . Kids couldn't eat the pizzas and left the restaurant hungry and when we told the waitress they still charged for the pizzas ! They just gave 25% off the pizzas but we still paid for brick-like pizzas which kids could not eat more than 10% ! Worst pizza ever !
google avatar

Snick S.

Yelp
The beer was awesome but the pizza was the best I have had in a long time!!! Love the ambiance and the staff is great. I highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Lindsay L.

Yelp
I'll start by saying we usually come here for the beer but the ambiance is so awesome. We are also a huge fan of the beer bacon pizza that they drizzle spicy honey on that's (here is a warning) incredibly addicting. You HAVE to try it! We have been there a few times but tonight I wanted to take time to highlight Chris. There was a group of parents who eere enjoying themselves and their kiddos were being destructive (pulling in a ring game almost breaking it, pulling the seems out of the bags from the corn hold, spilling spices all over the table, etc) Chris did the best he could to be responsive and communicative without disturbing other guests experiences. He was overly patient and handled it well. I came with my hubby and 3 little kids to and when we went inside they were super fun and enjoyed my kiddos since of humor and truly enhanced outer experience. Mia the manager(or owner) was so fun too, taking time put of her bust night (it was closing time) to have fun with my kiddos. We go here every time we visit the island but tonight Chris and Mia deserved a huge kudos for both their patience and their fun and caring personalities.

Yelp
We came for the beer and left with our hearts and bellies full. Firstly, the beers are excellent. Sit outside in their cozy garden area and try them all with a sampler platter. Secondly, the Beer and Bacon Pizza, with hot (spicy) honey will send you over the moon. Thirdly, the staff (especially our new bestie, Monica) treated us like friends, which we fast became. Thanks new friends!! We had a blast.
google avatar

Jane M.

Yelp
DELICIOUS pizza, despite the pies looking like they are made of cardboard. I typically prefer some meat on my pizzas but my favorite here was the fire roasted veggie pizza. I would come back and only order the pizza.
google avatar

Connor A.

Yelp
This brewery is set in a nursery garden and it's beautiful! Truly a beer garden! New England barn with large outdoor seating with rocking chairs! The beer is pricier but very good. The summer ale was smooth and crisp! Really cool place!
google avatar

Cheyenne B.

Yelp
Bad Martha's was such a good time and the ultimate outside activity in a time like COVID! Me and my cousin biked from Oaks Bluff to Edgartown, which was the only downfall to this experience lol. I was not prepared for the miles bike ride to then to town over. When we got their it was like the perfect spot that adhering to COVID protocols. It was completely outside with benches and chairs spread out. We ordered a cheese plate with a flight of beers and it was fantastic! Such a great experience speaking about the different tastes, and just enjoying the nice atmosphere. Would definitely come here again and recommend to anyone looking to do something relaxed and not having to worry about the pandemic.
google avatar

Belinda E.

Yelp
Really nice ambiance and fun with music. I did takeout and the cauliflower crust pizza was good but badly burnt.

Bella S.

Yelp
Good food, great ambiance, very affordable given its on the vineyard. We were in town for the long weekend and went here twice. They have great outdoor seating and its a great place to come with family and friends in large groups.

Yelp
Good beer Good food Good service The staff were very accommodating and friendly I was pleasantly surprised that the pizza was so good! I am a pizza snob

Yelp
This rustic brewery in a barn was a great place to grab pizza while on martha's vineyard, we took the city bus right to the restaurant. I loved that there was a nursery right next to where we sat. I wish they had wine, i tried their sweetest brew and wasn't impressed. We got the pretzel bites which were delicious, and the margarita pizza which really hit the spot. The bathroom had a description of how it was founded, be careful of the spiders on the corners of the floor and wooden walls in there though.
google avatar

Sharon N.

Yelp
Off season and quiet but I had a great first visit. Tried a flight first, then settled on Yule Log pint(s). Dennis was friendly and attentive and I loved the space. Enjoyed watching the World Cup and based on reviews I ordered a bacon onion hot honey pizza to go. Though that order kept waiting on me to give it the go-ahead, since I had nowhere to be! Music was surprisingly cool 70s we all seemed to be singing under breath to ourselves, and also the pizza I took back to the hotel was fantastic, If not the size of a flat earth ;) so good I made a trip to find gallon ziploc bags for the tiny fridge! Will enjoy when I get back to the mainland.

Yelp
The pizza was absolutely amazing. They have awesome games and a beautiful nursery of plants. Staff was outstanding service.

Yelp
I stopped by here this past Friday afternoon with my wife. We were in the Edgartown area and decided that we wanted some afternoon drinks and found Bad Martha Farmers Brewery on Yelp. Whenever we pulled up to the brewery there was no parking available and an attendant in the lot sent us around to the park and ride which was fairly close by. The inside of this place consisted of a bar and merchandise for sale along with view of their brewing equipment through a window behind the bar. Then the outside had seating for 30 or so including rocking chairs, high top chairs, benches and regular chairs. On the day that we were there seating was scarce as a mommy and me group was taking up a large portion of the seating. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery I decided to go with a flight here. At Bad Martha's Farmers Brewery that consists of four different beers and I chose the 3 wheats to the wind, MV Ale, Snake Charmer NEIPA and finally the Patio Ale. Sadly I had the order of the beer backwards whenever I was trying to taste them and so even though I wanted to try them in the order above, it actually ended up being backwards. I was definitely trying to figure out why the first two beers were as hoppy and harsh as they were as I knew they shouldn't have been. So for my first beer I tried the Patio Ale which started off with a bit or what I would consider a harsh flavor with that bitterness through to the end. The more that I drank the smoother the front end became but the bitterness was still pronounced on the finish. Then second I tried the Snake Charmer IPA which started off nice and smooth before finishing with that hoppy bitterness you would expect out of an IPA. Third was the MV Ale which started off smooth before finishing with a nice sweetness at the end. Last but certainly not least was the 3 Wheats to the Wind which starts off with a nice mouthful and finishes with a bit of sweetness and a hint of bitterness. Out of the bunch I think that the 3 Wheats to the Wind was my favorite. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. The fact that I had the beer backwards (pay attention to where they have the handle on the flight sheet!) really threw me for a loop early in the tasting but once I understood why the beers were the way that they were, I enjoyed them more.

Yelp
Waiting for the ferry - with a few hours to kill - we decided to stop by Bad Martha's for it's well-known atmosphere, beer, and great pizza. We popped in and immediately were taken back to our first visit to the Falmouth location. The manager to recreate the total vibe in the mainland - that was a cool little piece I learned! Bad Martha's on the vineyard is located next to a nursery that gives the brewery a lush and total oasis feeling. I felt like I was tucked away in a special corner of the vineyard. Tho the nursery was closed for purchases we parked in the back and walked through to make our way to the brewery. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the trees, flowers, and herbs. Once inside we ordered beer. I ordered the Sengie session which was a light hazy beer and my fiancé ordered the jalapeño cucumber beer. I loved mine but could only take a few sips of my fiancés. I could not stay away from the pizza. We ordered the bacon beer cheese pizza with hot honey and that did not disappoint. We loved how crispy and flavorful this pizza was.

Yelp
What a great afternoon. Sat at the bar for a tasting and enjoying another outside playing games. Take home a big bottle for later. Fun atmosphere and great beers. Winning combination.

Ruth A.

Yelp
This used to be a great place to spend a few hours and relax and enjoy the locally sourced beer. It is beyond disappointing now. The 2 dark beers I used to enjoy taste like brown water. The PRICE??? Eleven DOLLARS??? For one nasty beer?? Come on!! Unappealing to say the least. The pizza is ok. But not as good as it was last year. It's so disappointing. This used to be a go-to for us. The ambiance is fun, and servers Ben and Rick are great!! We live here year round and used to walk there...done till they improve.

Yelp
This place is like no other establishment on Martha's Vineyard. The pizza is so good from their brick oven. The vibe is relaxed. You could roll in after the beach or come here as a pregame to an evening outing in Edgartown. There is always parking and it isn't packed. The outdoor seating is cozy and the scenery, being that it is in a nursery, is beautiful. It's a good place to bring kids, as there are some games and the staff is kind, helpful and knowledgeable. I don't drink beer but there is a seltzer (not gluten free) so at least it's a non beer option at a brewery.
