Five Places Worth Trying This Weekend in Denver | Eater Denver

"For breakfast, I favor this family-owned Jewish deli with quick pick-up counter service and booth seating; it's no frills, but traditional preparations shine in items like the chopped liver, chicken matzo ball soup, and stacked sandwiches spotlighting brisket, pastrami, and corned beef." - Gigi Sukin

I’m 65. Some of the best bagels I’ve ever found hands down. All hand made, made fresh each morning. That is very, very rare these days. Go and try an egg bagel, thin slightly crusty outside and just moist soft inside. Delicious. This is 3 days from my refrigerator and 15 seconds in the microwave. I ate there and took 1/2 dozen bagels home.

Google
horrible experience here. So dirty and gross. Bagel tasted off and was so tiny did not fill me up at all. The guy was rude I should have when I walked in. sketchy.

Fred M.

Google
These are authentic bagels -- and I grew up NYC. Sandwiches are fabulous. Busy on a Saturday late morning. Thank you for a great lunch!

Google
Bagels were ok. Very tiny little ones for a high price. Place is very dirty overall i would not eat there again and don't recommend.

Linda P.

Google
Bagels were burnt, cream cheese had a weird funky taste, we took a few bites, the rest went in the trash, place was filthy, I should have walked out, my mom's stomach has been upset all afternoon, never going back, will support other local bagel shops

Alexandra R.

Google
Always good bagels & good, quick service :) Pictured: bacon egg & cheese on a cheddar everything

Google
So many mixed reviews about this place! Overall, it's not a bad spot. The bagels and sandwiches are fresh, made with real ingredients, and reasonably priced. The ambiance is a little...off though. Walking through the door felt like walking into the remnants of an old argument. Somehow uncomfortable without anything happening to make it uncomfortable. I chose to eat in my car. Still, if you are a bagel fan, I recommend trying it at least once. Particularly the egg bagel, toasted with cream cheese.

Google
Place is a wonderful local vibe. Fast/professional/friendly service from the gentleman running the gig. Heartily recommend a bacon egg and cheese from here, makes your morning :]

Yelp
I really enjoy going to this bagel shop. The bagels are delicious, chewy with just the right outside. My wife and I usually buy a dozen and eat them for the week! Sometimes we freeze some and have them over two weeks. I like to pay cash here. This is a small business. This is definitely a place for locals. The egg sandwiches are also terrific.

Yelp
First time I was at Bagels Plus Deli a few weeks back, I ordered a sausage, egg & cheese on a plain bagel. Sandwich was decent, tasty enough. As another reviewer had noted, the bagel itself had a more bread-like consistency, it didn't seemed boiled. My 2nd visit confirmed this, I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. That bagel was very blah & uninspiring. A weak 3 Star Rating for Bagels Plus Deli. My suggestion is to just order an egg sandwich if you go there, they use real eggs, so you'll get a much better sandwich than Dunkin'. But you'll be disappointed if you just get a bagel by itself. Also, they barely toast the bagel when you ask them to do so. And, as other reviewers have stated, the place could be cleaner.

Yelp
this place was so gross inside. initially was going to eat in but was so turned off I ate in my car. first- garbage all over floor in the back kitchen area. it was cold and unwelcoming. I was shocked at the price for 1 bagel with cream cheese. now a bagel is 1.75.....my total cost was $4.50..... so cream cheese is $2.75???????? make this make sense..... and yes I inquired if this was correct.... The bagel was below average, I asked for it toasted and it wasnt. 100% won't be back

Yelp
Great place and best bagels in area. Our go to place for bagels. He aims to please. Reminds me of an NYC bagel deli. Sandwiches are also a treat. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Well this place was absolutely disgusting, garbage all over the floor. And the guy that took our order was more concerned about the game on his laptop, than he was about taking and making orders. The amount of filth blew me away, I should have taken pictures is was pretty bad.

Yelp
The bagels were okay - definitely a step above grocery store, but I'm honestly not sure I'd go out of my way for them. I prefer a crunch to my bagel, and their standard toasting cycle leaves them undercooked for my taste. However, the guy working there popped it back in right away when I asked. The service was not overly bubbly, but I have no complaints. I'd rather a calm "What can I get you?" over cheer and animated friendliness first thing in the morning. The most interesting part of this place is the art on the walls. I didn't ask about it's origins, or if it came with the space, but you don't see many bagel shops with a cherub painted in their alcove.

Yelp
The place is filthy, sparse selection of stale bagels. Owner not very nice. Asked for a napkin, got some paper towels.

Yelp
Competitive bagel space in the Simsbury, canton, Avon area! Some love brook side for the monster bacon egg and cheeses, some love bagel chalet for sausage egg, and the lunch bomb bites - but bagel plus makes the best smoked whitefish spread. Can get to go or spreaded on!

Yelp
They cook on a grille! I noticed the microwave wave ones like lox stalk and bagel are so watery! I love love Bagel Plus Deli! and he has been established there a long time. No frills on inside but definitely a good breakfast bagel!!
google avatar

Samantha K.

Yelp
My boyfriend's mother brought us bagels from here last year. They were delicious. A month or so down the road, I was craving fresh tasty bagels and asked her where she got them? The rest is history. I pick up bagels and cream cheese here regularly -- sometimes as often as weekly, sometimes every other month -- and I am never disappointed. Their cream cheese is definitely worth adding to your order! The strawberry is delicious, with big chunks of yummy strawberry strewn in with the small flecks. I haven't yet tried their other flavors. I also haven't tried their sandwiches -- yet! But will be sure to comment on them when I do :)

Forrest K.

Yelp
Bagels are best in the area, service is great. The location is down to earth and comfortable. The bagels are worth it.

Yelp
Don't waste your time going here. Dirty, over priced, skimpy food and to top it off - really crappy service. How Farmington Valley Health hasn't shut this place down is amazing .

Dave O.

Yelp
Keith and Paige are the best. They're always able to acknowledge a customer- even in the midst of crazy busy; the food rocks and the staff does, too. Forget the big bagel shops- this is a Canton business and we should all be grateful

Yelp
First time at this place and we met the Bagel Nazi ! Got there around noon, the shelf was almost empty and asked if they have more bagels. The baskets weren't labeled except for one which said onion but it was plain with cornmeal. Was told that there is plain coming out of the oven so we said we'll take a bakers dozen This guy, not sure if owner or just employee, was beyond rude and impatient and said to us " This is what we're going to do ......." and took two of each and put them in the bag When he came back from getting the fresh bagels, he threw them on the counter. WOW someone needs customer-service 101. In fact, the next customer actually asked this guy if he was ok! The plain bagels were tasty but they will NEVER get our money again
google avatar

Shawn K.

Yelp
Their bagels are baked, not water boiled. Tastes more like a roll. Little flavor. Not chewy, but flaky. No line.

Yelp
Just had lunch with my sister in law at the bagel deli albany turnpike...chicken salad abd blt were to fie for..

Yelp
This place has so much potential. Great location, just needs a serious cleaning. The bagel selection is sparse but the kicker is , It could be cleaner with a half hour of work. Bottles of sauce with out caps, bottles of sauce that have turned shades of grey, dust, cross contamination ect. Listen if this was my business I would give a shit. Seems like hope may have been lost. Please fix this because we need a place like this in town assuming chef Ramsey taught you something.

Yelp
I really truly hate leaving bad yelp reviews but I've actually gotten food poisoning from this place....so needless to say I will never go back. Also I used to work in the same plaza and on a certain day they would clean their grease trap and it literally smelled like a dead animal. I used to have to hold my breath if I ever had to walk by. So awful. It's a shame because it's a great location but they really have a lot of work to do if they want to make this establishment worth going to.

D D.

Yelp
Fresh bagels they provide advice and tell you which ones they just baked if you ask. Friendly and relaxed. Good coffee nothing crazy just a nice drinking coffee. Bagel with chicken salad. Good size. Total $7. Good value. After reading other reviews: let me add. If you are a snob you probably won't like the place. It is a mess. The woman working there is pleasant and professional.

Zachary B.

Yelp
Congrats, you found the worst bagel place on the planet. The place is filthy, the bagels aren't good and the owner and service are amongst the worst you will find on the east coast. I wish I could give this place zero stars. There are way better bagel places just minutes away.

Samuel C.

Yelp
I don't know why the reviews are so bad. It's a little dirty yes, but I just eat my bagels to-go, and they're solid bagels.

Yelp
This place sits in a plaza and is very easy to get to off of Route 44. They opened up early and and I believe close somewhat early in the afternoon as well. They just have bagels here and nothing else so don't ask for any toast or croissants. They have a wide array of different types of sandwich combinations and spreads. They also have a wide array of different types of bagels which all of our extremely inconsistent. One day you get one that's rather good in the next four days you get one where you're wondering if there wasn't a mistake made in the recipe. Having owns the place for many years the owner has become gruff and angry with customers. After witnessing the owner assault a long time customer I'm done with this place.

Matthew K.

Yelp
We stopped in yesterday and I had a tuna wrap and my daughter had a BLT on a bagel. Very tasty. Both were excellent, my wrap was outstanding and I sampled my daughters BLT and it was very good. Definitely my new spot for breakfast or lunch when I'm down that way. Enjoy!

Sarah W.

Yelp
Wish it had the option of zero stars. Person behind counter was rude. The place was filthy! The health department needs to come in here immediately. I don't understand how this place is still in business after years and years of similar reviews... Shame on me for not checking yelp before I came here. Shame on them for not caring.

Ben K.

Yelp
Food was good service was odd. The man behind the counter made us feel like we were interrupting his day. Very short with us, no smile just an odd attitude.

Olivia B.

Yelp
I don't really know why the reviews for this place are so bad. Not the friendliest staff but who cares. The bagels are extremely fresh and delicious. Coffee is fresh ground, tastes great. You go for the food which is very good so I would recommend.

John F.

Yelp
I've driven by this place 1000s of times but finally stopped by a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I did. The food is well quality, well-crafted, simple and fresh. Now that may seem ordinary and sure you could make the same thing at home but isn't that what you are looking for? They make food like my Grandmother would make it. That puts them above Subway or Panera or those "I don't care about you" delis that dot northwest Connecticut. The staff also seems eager to provide great service as well. Today I saw a staff member make sure the another staff member cut the bottom of the bagel wrapper in half just like the bagel. "It makes it easier to eat that way". Thats the kind of attention to detail I can appreciate. The interior could use some work but its still becoming my favorite spot for lunch.

Andrew Z.

Yelp
Uninspiring decor and food. Mediocre "bagels" which have the consistency of one of those stale 99 cent breads you see at the grocery store. No character ir quality in these bagels. Location is fantastic and they do open early. I drive down to breuggers when I want bagels.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Just terrible. Gave this place another chance this morning and immediately regretted it. Walked in to the usual extremely rude and abrupt owner behind the counter. My husband attempted to make small talk with him and received a grunt in reply. Baskets of bagels with no labels so you have to guess what kind they are (because he sure isn't going to be friendly and tell you). Once you do figure out the flavors, be prepared for mediocrity at best. Such a shame because the place is in a good location. I would much rather travel up the road to Dunkin, Bagel Chalet or Brueggers.

Alison H.

Yelp
Best bagels in the Farmington valley. The food is delicious, the staff is so kind, their coffee is great- CANNOT BE BEAT. Love it here. You can see them cooking in the back which is cool

Marta W.

Yelp
My sister purchased bagels here and accidentally grabbed an extra bag with sandwiches that was next to it. We are giving this deli five stars because not only were the bagels really delicious, but when she called to apologize for grabbing the wrong bag, and offered to pay for the contents, she was told not to worry about it "just come back!" I think that is so kind and we will definitely be back. Thank you so much! The bagels were yummy and the sandwich is delicious too! Obviously nice people too. You can't go wrong.

Michael H.

Yelp
After moving to the area I was in search for a great spot for fresh bagels. I was going to stop here awhile ago but read the reviews and was turned off. I finally decided to stop in the other day and found what I feared from previous reviews. The place looked dirty and unkept. While deciding which bagels I wanted to select there was no signs of the types they had baked. When deciding the person running the place (possiblely the owner?) Was rude and unfriendly. He treated me as if i was bothering him by being there to give him my business. The bagels were inconsistent but decent. Nothing to write home about. Even if they were the best bagel I've ever had I would not go back just based on my experience. There are other places in the area and won't mind driving out of my way to avoid this place. Definitely worth driving past!

Yelp
This place has never got a rating and I must say, I am surprised. It has great bagels, which are always fresh, and a mini deli that gives you many alternatives for breakfast or lunch. My only complaint is that it closes around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Because on a steaming hot summer day, one of their bagels would go down very nice with a cold drink.

Donna c.

Yelp
Not very clean and needs TLC! Oh, and your coffee not so good!

Faith A.

Yelp
I want to love this place because I love bagels, but it's tough. I've gone several times, and each time the bad has overshadowed the good. First of all, the bagels are delicious, and the breakfast sandwiches are tasty. But the food is only part of the experience that keeps people coming back - to the owner I say - Brighten up the place! Add some décor! Update the seating inside, and how about a little patio table with umbrella outside? Direct sun and heat hits those random chairs outside the door! Update the glass cabinet and fill it with appetizing looking food in colorful containers, not a plastic tub of Sabra Hummus, old looking fruit from Edible Arrangements, and assorted mayonnaise based salads in unappetizing containers. Finally, the staff- I have never seen the man who works there smile, crack a joke, even welcome or talk to customers in a friendly manner. And that goes for the women who work there as well, they could not look more miserable and unwelcoming. Is there a staff policy not to engage with customers? As I said, the bagels are delicious. But their appeal cannot outweigh the other negatives, which to me are easy fixes.
