The Best Bagels in Boston | Eater Boston

"What was Leven Bagelry in the Boston Public Market is now Bagel Guild by brothers Lucas and Zach Reckling, who took over the space in 2022. They’re known for their artisanal sourdough bagels made using freshly ground, local grain from Group Up Mill in Holyoke, Massachusetts. In addition to bagels and cream cheese, they also offer a selection of sandwiches." - Valerie Li Stack

Spring 2022 Guide to Greater Boston Restaurant Openings | Eater Boston

"A small bagel stall at a public market built around freshly milled local grain and wild yeast; launched by two brothers who began as a delivery service during Covid and grew through farmers markets. Expect traditional bagels made from freshly milled flour and weekday/weekend market hours." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Firstly, we really enjoyed our food. We had two everything bagels, one with cream cheese and bacon and the other was the Boston lox one on the menu and both were really nice. Our experience was ruined by the male staff member at the till. He had an extremely negative attitude, no hello, how are you, thank you etc. Did not answer questions he was asked or show any interest in the job. Other customers felt the same and reviews clearly state the same. I would have returned for the food, but definitely not after the service we received.

Google
I got the same bagel for two days in a row and the veggies, greens were extremely fresh. Crispy bacon. This is a classic BLT. Although, they don't have a lot of options, I would still come back since the quality was excellent. The staff was very nice and quick service. It’s inside a nice food market with plenty of seating.

Google
this is my pre work breakfast spot :-) staff is always super friendly and you get a great bagel for a great price !! they used to have treeline cream cheese which is my absolute fave as a vegan but since they changed their vegan cc, ive started opting to get their beet hummus filling instead which is SOOOO so good.

Google
For breakfast we both had the B-flat: everything bagel with egg, house butter, secret sauce, sharp cheddar with bacon added. Absolutely delicious, moist, tasty, not drive, tasted devine. Bagels are made and baked on the premises, served by friendly staff. Definitely recommend!!

Google
So good! Bagels were still warm and the wrapped my cinnamon raisin so it wouldn’t get the seasoning from other bagels on it (I bought the 1/2 dozen.) The girl at the register (I cannot remember her name but she had dark hair) was friendly. Will come back!

Google
Mediocre bagels and rude service. Stopped in around lunch and the bagels weren’t even fresh. The staff member (black shirt, gauges, no name tag) was unnecessarily rude and ruined the experience. I ordered quickly first (and tipped) while my boyfriend initially said he didn’t want anything. He came back to the counter and said with a smile, “I changed my mind, I’ll get something!” the employee replied flatly, “I can see that….” When my boyfriend asked for a recommendation, he got, “You have to choose for yourself,” and then after my boyfriend asked “but do you have any recommendations!” He replies flatly, “I like all of them.” We were the only ones ordering and it wasn’t busy. Both the food and service were disappointing—hard to see why this place has such high ratings.

Google
I had the BLT on an onion bagel- another fantastic breakfast option if you want to try something other than the egg and cheese (also incredible). The bagels here have the perfect ratio of chew, with a crisp outer toast. They use bacon from Farmhouse Meats in the market, which is locally sourced. The portion size was perfect to get the morning started, and the staff is always super friendly. Definitely a must try when in this part of Boston.

Google
Bagel was great, seating is difficult to get, so just be aware that they apparently wont automatically put napkins in the bag, so grab some before searching for a seat, otherwise you'll end up with cream cheese all over yourself and no napkins.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped in for bagel sandwiches when visiting the public market. My sandwich was so delicious and made fresh! I do have to say there was some complaining from the staff when ordering. Overall though( the food was yummy and my friends' sandwiches were delicious as well, lox, chicken guild, and a make your own sandwich was ordered. The public market is a perfect location to eat the sandwiches as well!

Yelp
Great place for a bagel breakfast sandwich. The staff was great and took my order then quickly made my sandwich. Food was very good and prepared to either eat sitting inside at one of the many tables or walking around the city. See you all tomorrow...

Yelp
Very good bagel, but the place kind of smelled like fire. Service was super helpful-- I wanted an addition and subtraction on my bagel and he priced it out twice to see what was cheaper. I made up the difference in tip!!

Yelp
Great place to grab a delicious bagel. We had a couple toasted with cream cheese, but couldn't resist bringing some bagels home to try that we had never seen before. The rosemary bagel is great! The veggie cream cheese is fantastic! Nice staff.

Yelp
Staff and speed and quality are always right on. The bagels are fresh and taste like a good proper bagel should. They also don't skimp on cream cheese like pretty much every other spot in Boston other than pavement. Love the bagel flavors especially rosemary salt and four cheese. I've never had a flop and there's ample seating since it's in the haymarket food hall. They're tucked away so it's cozy and nice.

Yelp
The pesto on the Triple G makes the sandwich. The bagels have a slightly sweet taste. Stopping here was a good choice even though the market itself is lacking something.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent breakfast sandwiches for the price ($7.50 for an egg and cheese with bacon, sausage, or veggie patty), but smaller, drier, and tougher than expected. The service is friendly and fast and there is a cute café-style seating area next to the shop counter.

Yelp
Brief Summary: - Great chewy bagel texture - Located within Boston Public Market We came and ate here for breakfast. This one was located in Boston Public Market, and found near the center of the building. There are seats alongside this food restaurant, as well as in front of it, so this was a great place to order and quickly find a place to sit and eat. We ordered two different bagel sandwiches: one was from the special menu: B-Flat. The other was a simple bagel with a spread of chive. I recall ordering one of the bagels with a spicy chili and the other with onion. Both of the bagels had a great chew, and while I have a low spice tolerance, the chili was not too spicy. The special sauce tastes like an aioli. For the sandwich combination of egg and cheese, the sauce that tasted like ketchup was a random flavor.

Yelp
This was a great bagel spot. Located in the Boston Market, they had one of the best bagels my wife and I have ever enjoyed. Just walking through the area, we located the market. Inside were multiple food, beverage and merchandise stands. We saw the Bagel Guild stands which was closed as we got to the market later in the evening. We looked it up and saw that the bagels look great and the place had really good reviews on YELP. We made a point of going back the next morning for breakfast. It was a great decision!!! The staff were nice and seemed to be happy. My wife ordered the everything bagel with Nova. Because this was our annual eating our way through Boston trip, we shared it. The bagel was a definite WOW!!!! Great flavor, perfect pull and texture. The toppings which were red onion, capers, Nova and a dill cream cheese were absolutely delicious. Never had dill cream cheese before, but it made everything just come together and was excellent. It was so good that we actually went back the following morning and had it a second time. I do have to apologize as I've put in some other post. It was so good that we forgot to take the picture because we ate it so fast. If you're in Boston, I recommend making a point of getting to bagel guild. If there's a line just wait you will be happy you did.

Yelp
Went there as they were opening. They hadn't even put out all the bagels, yet. They were super friendly and the food was delicious. I had the Triple G and the flavors were perfect together.

Yelp
The best thing about Bagel Guild? Probably the location. Inside the Boston Public Market, it's always bustling with people ranging from tourists who are walking around downtown to locals who are looking for a quick breakfast option. The bagels are definitely not the best I've had, but they're tasty and I never have left disappointed. I wish they had a bit more cream cheese options, but what they have available is still the basic, good options people usually look for. I also wish the prices were a bit lower, but that's just a complaint of the Boston Public Market in general. Still, I enjoy stopping by on occasion and hope this inspires other bagel shops to open up nearby!

Yelp
Very tasty sandwiches. Try the blt. Good selection of bagels. Freshly made. Staff seems to really enjoy it here.
google avatar

Yelp
Really great bagel sandwiches, service was polite and very quick and good vibes all around in the market.

Yelp
Found in the Boston Public Market, we went to Bagel Guild as my companion desperately was seeking out bagels. Apparently this place had great reviews on Google, and after going, I don't see what the hype is. This to me was a pretty average bagel. The bagels are affordable for their size and they love slathering on the cream cheese. You can honestly do worse, much like you can do better. See for yourself and let me know what you think. /shrug

Yelp
I love bagels. This place was amazing. Ordered a plain bagel as is and it came out piping hot freshly made. Then a BEC sandwich on a plain (pictured). It was really good. This place hits the spot. And a latte from George Howell was the perfect compliment. Stop in Boston public market for some really great food and drink!
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy bagels. Have tried the classic bagel and cream cheese, pizza bagels and sandwiches and everything is always so good! Service is always quick and friendly. Lines tend to get long but move fast.
google avatar

Yelp
Quick service and yummy bagel! It was crowded but not too bad on a Saturday. The market is a great place to walk around. The bagels were a little hard and therefore tough to eat, wish they were a little fluffier. When I bit down the inside cream cheese all came out making it messy. Worth the mess, super fresh ingredients and good portion size. Loved this and want to come back to try more

Suzy C.

Yelp
The service was quick. The food was delicious. A variety of spreads and bagels. I'll be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Wishing 4.5 was a rating option! Great location/ambience, fast service and fresh ingredients. We ordered the b-flat with a sausage patty on a onion bagel, the boston cold smoked on a everything bagel, and a jalapeño cheese with scallion chive cream cheese. The bagels were a little spongy and the cream cheese to bagel ratio was slightly overpowering, but ratio issue can easily be fixed by asking for cream cheese on the side. The flavor combinations of each sandwich and the bagels as standalone items were great. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
They make a good bagel. It's on the doughier and chewier side but not to an extreme extent. It's about 85% of what I want for my personal preference. It makes a lot of sense as a sandwich bagel. Boston Public Market, in general, seems to have underrated shops.
google avatar

Sandra D.

Yelp
This bagel place hit the spot! It's inside the market area which is neat to walk around. I would say the B Flat needs a little more egg, but other than that it was delicious!!
google avatar

Erik B.

Yelp
Bagel Guild at Boston Public Market is a must-visit for any bagel lover! From the moment you walk up to their stand, you can tell you're in for a treat. The bagels are perfectly crafted--crisp on the outside and delightfully chewy on the inside. They offer a fantastic variety of flavors, from the classics to more unique options like Jalapeno Cheddar. The other day I split a B-Flat on a touch of salt bagel and the special sauce was especially good!
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
Such great bagels.! Fresh and various cream cheese flavors available. We ordered the everything bagel with plain cream cheese and the plain bagel with spicy pepper cream cheese. Great flavor for both!
google avatar

Kinjal S.

Yelp
Came here cause I was craving bagels and it was walking distance from my hotel. I got a four cheese bagel with roasted veggie cream cheese and it was delicious. I wanted to take some bagels back home but didn't have the space in my bag cause they were that good.

Yelp
WHO DOESN'T LIKE A BAGEL!? I was in Boston this week and I was walking around in the Public Market when I saw this place. I watched for a moment and these guys are making their own bagels from scratch! Mixing the dough, shaping, boiling, baking. So I thought this has to be a good bagel and who doesn't like a good bagel, and to be honest not sure why this place doesn't have better ratings. I had the "Cold Smoked". It was their version and a pretty classic version of Lox and Bagels. I had it on a everything bagel. It was salmon lox, cream cheese, capers, red onion, and last some fresh dill. It was pretty awesome. The bagel was the star of the show with it crunchy exterior that had a lot of great everything bagel seasoning, and a pillowy, chewy, interior. There was a good amount of cream cheese on it that complimented the rich smokiness of the salmon. The rest just tied it all together with the dill brining in freshness. Probably one of the better renditions of this favorite I have had. Is it a hipster place like some reviews said? Yea it is. Is the staff rude? I didn't find them rude but they were short, but isn't that just Boston in general? Look, don't let rude or unfriendly people stand in your way of great food. This place was fast it was decently priced and it tasted awesome. Keep exploring!

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed bagel guild. We were able to get out of the heat for breakfast and sit inside the market.
google avatar

Ruben S.

Yelp
If you compare this to Boston or New York bagels, you'll be disappointed. But we loved our bagel sandwiches. Nice decor
google avatar

Krista A.

Yelp
Great breakfast sandwiches and bagels! Such a wonderful spot to visit with so many other businesses.

Derek P.

Yelp
If you've ever had a semi decent bagel, don't go here. These bagels are horrendous. Dunks across the street has better quality.
google avatar

Bella L.

Yelp
Great menu including a variety of bagel spread options! My order came out very quickly and was delicious!

Al S.

Yelp
Yes place is on a tourist trap, but the food was way overpriced ($9.00 for a BLT!). The bagels are less than mediocre. Staff was indifferent and non-social.
google avatar

Leigh A.

Yelp
Quite frankly THE BEST Everything bagel I've ever had in my lifetime. Immediately went online as I was visiting Boston & wanted to see if delivery to other states was available & boo hoo no such luck. Service was friendly, too, but the bagels were da bomb. I wish I hadn't been in transit knew before I was on the bus how delicious so I could have bought at least a dozen to bring home with me, I'm still thinking about my bagel experience
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
Insanely good sourdough bagels inside Haymarket Boston Public Market. Super fresh-they even make their own butter!! The rosemary bagel was 10/10-yum. Great sandwiches and a block from the hotel we were staying at! Cant wait to go back!
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Love these bagels! We've been coming here whenever we're in the area and the bagels are consistently delicious and the service is great as well. Much better than your average bagel spot.
google avatar

Nicol P.

Yelp
Pretty awful experience that was very unnecessary. Ordered an everything bagel with vegan cream cheese. Worst vegan cream cheese I've ever had--I couldn't eat it. I asked if I could just have a new bagel with regular cream cheese, the staff kept trying to give me a side of it to add to the bagel, even after explaining several times it's inedible. When the 2 staff members started getting rude a 3rd had to come over. It took 1 minute to replace the bagel after 5 minutes of arguing.

James C.

Yelp
Solid place to grab a bagel. B-Flat on onion with bacon was great. . Cream cheese was tasty. Def recommend this place.
google avatar

Dr. D.

Yelp
True boiled baked bagels in the NY tradition complete with a hint of malt syrup. So welcome after two years in the bagel desert of Maine.
google avatar

Jami M.

Yelp
Yummy bagel with chewy consistency. Really good ratio of cream cheese to bagel. Quick text message to know my order was ready. Joint seating area with other vendors. 10/10. I'm sure it gets busy on the weekend. We went on an early Friday when they opened.
google avatar

Yelp
I had the BLT on an onion bagel- another fantastic breakfast option if you want to try something other than the egg and cheese (also incredible). The bagels here have the perfect ratio of chew, with a crisp outer toast. They use bacon from Farmhouse Meats in the market, which is locally sourced. The portion size was perfect to get the morning started, and the staff is always super friendly. Definitely a must try when in this part of Boston.

Yelp
My Favorite Bagel in Boston. The service and options are excellent. They also use local ingredients.

Yelp
Staying at a hotel around the corner and found this place for breakfast. Some of the best bagels I have ever had. They also do not skimp on the cream cheese, you will need several napkins. Definitely coming back for breakfast the rest of the mornings I'm here.
google avatar

Dennis M.

Yelp
Had the everything bagel with egg bacon and cheese. Decent amount of bacon and cheese was good. But the overall sandwiches (5 of us got them) were just not good.
google avatar

Shaima E.

Yelp
By far the best bagels I have ever had. It will be the first spot I return to when I visit Boston again.

Greg L.

Yelp
Tasty bagels. The rosemary bagel with butter was delicious. The whole market is a great place to start your morning.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Pretty good and cheap bagel sandwiches. Sauce is pretty intense (good but the whole sandwich just tastes like the sauce)

Max L.

Yelp
A great local option for bagels within the heart of Boston. Bagel Guild is owned by two local brothers who are down to earth, friendly and know their food. Service is fantastic with not only the owners but with all of the employees working there. The Bagel Guild is located in the BPM, so there's plenty of other things to explore and take in as well. As for the bagels themselves....fantastic. They're freshly baked each morning, so there's no need to ask to get them toasted. My personal favorites would be the cinnamon raisin and the everything bagel, and the vegetable cream cheese is absolutely packed with flavor. I have bought bulk orders of bagels and vegetable cream cheese and have had no regrets doing so. I have yet to try their sandwiches, but they also look great as well. They have a wide variety of options with the sandwiches, so definitely take your time to peruse the menu. Absolutely recommend the Bagel Guild.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Just had one of the best everything bagels ever. I consider myself an expert critic and their bagel met all of my demands. Crispy ,flavorful, generously topped, and served promptly !

Edward R.

Yelp
These bagels fresh out of the oven are THE BEST in Boston at least in downtown area bar none. Worth the trip, the wait and everything else involved.

Ellie M.

Yelp
Went for lunch and ordered a bagel with egg, cheese, and bacon but ended up receiving vegan sausage instead of the bacon. The two employees I interacted with were also rude and seemed annoyed when I asked a really simple question (just confirming something about my order). The bagel was stale but I went in the afternoon so could explain that. Prices are pretty decent for Boston but overall I wouldn't go back.
