24 Hours in the Plateau and Mile End: What to Eat and Drink | Eater Montreal

"More of a savoury breakfast spot than a dessert stop, Bagel Etc. is the place to go for hearty, savory morning fare rather than pastries, so I’d head elsewhere if you’re chasing éclairs or mille‑feuille." - Tim Forster

Google
Our favorite bagel place in Rhode Island with definitely the best bagels. I normally have to drive to mass to find good bagels but this place blew our minds away. The bagels are always soooo fresh and fluffy but crisp on the outside. We also checked out their iced coffee for their best of Rhode Island competition and their Maui coffee is delicious. Highly recommend these guys and checking them out. We come early in the am before work and service has always been friendly and 10/10. A must try.

Adam

Google
Best Bagels in RI!!! Drinks, wraps, sandwiches, and of course bagels are all superb. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

M.J. S.

Google
Wow amazing bagels!! Crispy on the outside and soft and just right on the inside!! The everything bagel was marvelous as was the garlic bagels. So was the sesame, the poppy, the cinnamon sugar!! All so good

Just left this ghost town of a bagel shop. An employee gave me attitude when I asked to use the restroom. Like it was a huge inconvenience. Furthermore, the bathroom is outside the shop. What kind of place that serves food and coffee not have a bathroom?? Plus, you NEVER know when this place is open. They constantly close for various reasons. Blue Kangaroo has taken away all their lunch business. With employees like they have at Bagels etc. I used to love the place.. It's definitely not what it was ten years ago. Most likely my last time there..

Google
Best bagels I've had in RI.

Google
It's nice to have an independently run bagel shop in Barrington. The counter staff are great-especially Becky! That said, the bagels are just ok. It would be nice if they were made NY style (boiled.)

John M.

Google
Excellent selection of bagels. Highly recommend the LBI sandwich!! One of the only places in the area who serve Taylor Pork Roll... IYKYK!

Christophe A.

Google
Very good customer service. Toasted Almond iced coffee was great. And they are walking distance from Barrington library.

Yelp
The bagel with cream cheese that I ordered was really delicious and we enjoyed the coffee too. It was easy to find, and we had our order quickly. The outdoor seating was super nice since we went on a gorgeous day and the staff was amazing. I have not stopped thinking of the bagel since and we will certainly be back!
google avatar

Kenneth Q.

Yelp
The bagels are fresh and generally in stock. The staff are professionally polite and efficient. The strip shopping area had sufficient parking every time I was there. I live two towns away but happily make the trip here for their bagels.

Yelp
Bagels Etc has always been my go- to spot for any and every type of bagel sandwich. They have so many options and you can also customize your own. If you're going for breakfast I highly recommend the "good morning mikey" specifically on a poppy seed bagel. Also love a "clubber" on a plain bagel during lunch time- comes with the absolute best pickle you will ever have. They have limited seating inside and sometimes gets to be a bit crowded- but I think most people that come here also take their orders to-go. One thing I wish they would improve is their drink selection, they taste different every time I get one- still taste good, but never know what you might get.

Yelp
Been going here for a while now. Bagels are always fresh and a nice variety. The help are always friendly and right there when you enter. The establishment is small but very clean. Continue doing what you're doing and you will be around for a while
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Best bagels + coffee around! Fresh bagels daily with homemade cream cheese, tons of variety and take home options. Deli sandwiches also available. We especially enjoyed the cinnamon sugar bagel with cream cheese and the iced dirty chai latte. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
visited twice as part of RI Food Fights coffee challenge. Had a butterscotch ice coffee, snickerdoodle and an iced vanilla chai. Coffee was excellent and sugar free (brewed). they offer a variety of bagels and sandwiches. they offer a gluten free bagel (stored and toasted separately for severe allergies and celiac). service was friendly. would have given more stars, but the atmosphere is just average, especially when compared to some of the other fun and inviting coffee shops around. it's standard with a counter, tables and a bulletin board with local news.
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Been going here for years. Such a great place to get a real Jewish bagel. Their breakfast sandwiches are top notch. Everyone here is really friendly. It's a really clean place. Go here for your coffee instead of the usual places.
google avatar

Danielle F.

Yelp
Today's stop, brought to you by cinnamon! Cinnadoodle iced coffee - very good! But the bagel stole the show... Cinnamon sugar with cinnamon cream cheese. I was expecting the cinnamon sugar to flake off the bagel, but it was baked in and made for such a crispy glaze. Unbelievable. Located next to the library and playground, near the bike path and shops, so it's a super convenient and charming location. They have also proudly displayed all their little league sponsor plaques and "Best in RI" ice cream award from 2018, so you know this is a good place that's been tried and true. Currently not set up for dine in, but that's ok - it's too beautiful outside!
google avatar

JoAnna S.

Yelp
The bagels are pretty decent. Bring from NY no one has really compared to the bagels from back home, but these are enjoyable. I love that you can get a breakfast sandwich with real eggs made to order. I am not a fan of Dunkin, so I will choose Bagels Etc. in town every time. This place is still a little old school. You order your food ahead of time by sending an email, I'm ok with that. I know recently they've struggled with getting help, so there have been times I've gone there and they've been closed during their normal business hours. Not a knock on them if they don't have anyone to work for them, but it has left me feeling disappointed at times.
google avatar

Don G.

Yelp
The girl taking my order started to have a conversation with a regular who was behind me in line, in the middle of my order. Seems like a hot spot for the local dads to come chat up their daughters' friends who work there... Good food though!
google avatar

Vijay S.

Yelp
Very good bagel sandwiches here. Got the big jack sandwich on an Asiago bagel along with custom cream cheese, tomato, spinach, red onion sandwich on an everything bagel. Everything tasted pretty good. Came upto 17$ for 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees.
google avatar

Yelp
Bagels Etc. in beautiful Barrington is a good spot for breakfast. I've been twice and during both visits I've had a delicious bagel and iced coffee. They have a tasty selection of different bagels and iced coffee flavors. On my last visit I had a spinach bagel with a Cinnadoodle flavored iced coffee. They serve their bagels exactly how I love them, soft and chewy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. They now use greenware compostable plastic cups too. With a cozy feel and friendly staff, Bagels Etc. will now be a must stop when I'm in the Barrington area.
google avatar

Linda A.

Yelp
I'm so excited that this joint was in the RI coffee food fights. Holy Moses, was this a great find. The coffee is delicious, incredibly good. I forgot to ask who the supplier was, but I will find out! I got an egg white delight breakfast sandwich on a super fresh everything bagel. You can tell it's made to order, and the price is right! I'll be back very soon.
google avatar

Jared H.

Yelp
Best bagels. We drive all the way from Riverside to eat these bagels and sandwiches Try the early bird sandwich
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Great little local shop. Had my first experience here today (based off some Yelp reviews), and I'm definitely going to be coming back in the near future. Great small-town feel, with convenient parking, just off the bike path. Food was great! Came with a friend and got the LBI and #17. LBI was great (could've used a bit more pork roll), and the #17 was awesome as well (could've used a bit less cream cheese, got a little messy). Not a big coffee drinker myself, but my friend said it was very good, and the paper straw was an added plus. Will definitely be making a return here in the future.

Wayne B.

Yelp
Every time I go there there closed. They used to be open till 3:00 now its 2:00 next week it will be 11:00 make people happy with a lot of bagels. And be able to sell them to the public when they need them. Not when you need time off. Hire someone to work later that you can trust. You can watch them on your camera from home.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Been coming to this spot for years! A quaint little spot in the middle of Barrington with plenty of fresh bagel selections for your carb enjoyment. I personally enjoy the lox with capers and cream cheese! Fresh smoked salmon nomnom last time I went there though was after the Bristol Half Marathon and I needed protein STAT! I opted for 'the guac' with extra meat on an everything bagel. My muscles smiled as I took bite after exquisite bite!! They actually have a great coffee selection too. Not a single reason to pass this place up!
google avatar

April P.

Yelp
I haven't been here in awhile and there is no reason why to be honest. We just happened to be in the center this am and I was getting HANGRY so i went in for my good old standby, The Blackjack. Nothing better than spicy cheese on an egg and sausage Asiago bagel!!! While it is a "Barrington pricey" place, it tasted and felt worth it. The service is always good. The food is always fresh. They pull bagels out of the back all the time because it's so busy. They always seem to get my coffee correctly and their vanilla chai is sweet goodness. And they now have metal straws for sale and paper straws for free. They're always on top of things. Go, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Jen W.

Yelp
Bagels are always fresh. Good options for breakfast and lunch sandwhiches. Love having this so close to home!
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
I'm from Jersey, so I have a high (often unrealistic/unreachable) expectation when it comes to bagels. Stopped here on a whim and wasn't disappointed! They have a great variety of bagel flavors that aren't too thin or thick. Classic bagel sandwich options with a few standouts! Shoutout to the LBI featuring pork roll! I'll try that one next time. So far I've had the #17 (I recommend with veggie cream cheese) and the NEI and both were delicious!! Also had the iced black tea lemonade and enjoyed that as well. They have paper straws available.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I married a New Yorker. I know good bagels. Tim Gorman's place has the very best around. The sandwiches are weird (in a good way), fresh, huge and delicious. And the service is above-and-beyond, every single time, delivered by local kids who really seem to love what they do. Tim is a business owner who truly cares about giving his customers the very best product. If any business deserves your loyalty, it's Bagels Etc.
google avatar

Chelsey B.

Yelp
My family has been enjoying the fresh bagels, sumptuous salads and stellar service from the team at Bagels, Etc for the past 12 years. The Gorman family who owns this Barrington staple are not only the nicest people on the face of the earth, they support the community through regular donations and event sponsorship. I love the email ordering system and can't wait to order bagel braids with a cream cheese assortment for all of my neighbors this holiday season! My go to - Toasted open-faced multi-grain with spinach, tomato and melted muenster cheese.
google avatar

Wesley W.

Yelp
I love the Bagel Shop! I come here every time I come visit my parents. Best bagels around
google avatar

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab lunch for three people. Breakfast egg and sausage on fresh bagel, Greek salad and a chicken wrap ceasar. All was great. Drinks came in biodegradable plastic cups with paper straws. Service was quick. Food was great.

Amie D.

Yelp
Sadly, this place has gone down hill. It used to be my go to breakfast spot. Now, I hardly ever go. The service is absolutely terrible!!! I waited 25 minutes for an order I had called ahead and pre paid for. Food is good but not worth the trouble. Really wish they would find some better staff!
google avatar

Rick N.

Yelp
Bagels Etc makes good (not superb) bagels consistently - plus all the fixin's to go with them. It's worth going out of your way a few miles if you need to satisfy a bagel craving. The staff is always friendly too.
google avatar

Alma C.

Yelp
This place makes their own cream cheese and bagels which makes for a very satisfying spinach bagel, lox and cream cheese sandwich. I am actually amazed by the number of times I've gotten a blank stare in response to me asking whether or not they sell lox at every other bagel place I've been to in RI.....sacrilege!
google avatar

Jaclyn P.

Yelp
I go for the onion bagel with lox spread while the hubster gets the onion bagel with straight up lox and cream cheese. We both approve. I've also been tempted by other flavors such as salt bagel, spinach, asiago cheese and even the sprouted grain. Ordering is kind of hectic since there always seems to be too many girls working. I think at one point there were 3 different people making my one bagel....And it's a little creepy that the counter staff are mostly young, pretty girls and the clientele are ALL guys and men....except me. I sort of felt like I was messing up the balance when I went with my husband but at least now I know to make sure I do the Saturday morning bagel run and NOT him. :) So flirting aside and ordering confusion too, the bagels are clearly house made and they have quite an extensive menu of bagel sandwiches. I can't really attest to prices since my husband insists on his fancy lox which always costs an arm and a leg.
google avatar

Tony V.

Yelp
This is a nice little spot. Love bagel shops and this place has a huge selection of bagels. The only reason i dont give it 5 stars is the coffee is just average. But for people who love various bagels and cream cheeses, this is the place for you
google avatar

Celia W.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE AND I HAVE NEVER EVEN BEEN THERE! Quick story, I work with the owner's mother in law and she brings me back his bagels! I am in love! I have to get these bagels shipped to me because these bagels are amazing! I am literally eating an everything bagel right now!! The bagels are to die for - soft, moist, the perfect crunch when toasted, flavorful, etc!! PLEASE open a Bagels Etc in Poughkeepsie, NY! :) Thank you for making my mornings! -Celia

Yelp
All of the employees were standing in the back when I arrived today. I made eye contact with a number of them, but they just continued to do what they were doing instead of coming out to help me. After a minute or two a very friendly young lady came out to help me. Today I stopped in for bagels for the family. I ordered two bagel sandwiches, one bagel with cream cheese and two cans of pop. When they rang me up it was $23!! Really?? I was going to ask for a list of charges, but decided I would just enjoy my bagels from here for the last time. It really is a shame because they have a really good product, but the prices are just ridiculous.
google avatar

Karen S.

Yelp
What a tasty bagel! I stopped in here mid-morning on a Friday. It wasn't too busy and I was taken care of right away. There is a nice selection of bagels and cream cheeses. I went with an asiago with plain cream cheese and I really liked it. The woman who took care of me was extremely friendly and efficient. Since I also ordered a coffee, she offered to start a coffee club card for me, but I declined. They have a decent selection of flavored and regular coffees. I was really impressed with the lunch menu on the board. Lots of delicious sounding wraps and salads. They sell and use Boar's Head meats. I'm going to have to stop in try lunch some time.
google avatar

Mrs B.

Yelp
Bagels are with going and buying a dozen at a time. But, go in prepared to wait as service is slow. The cream cheese is also more than worth it, you'll never but a grocery cream cheese again. Thr bagels peck flavor, even the multigrain and whole wheat... but beware the salt are VERY salty, a little too much for me. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious (though some not healthy). The lunch sandwiches are good as well, veggie options could use a little bulking up though. Coffee is a little weak for my liking but they do offer several regular as well as decaf flavors. If you haven't had their bagels try one with cream cheese and enjoy as close to bagel heaven as you will get in this state!
google avatar

Edward D.

Yelp
The main attraction would be the bagels, which are quite good. There is a good variety, running from standards (plain, sesame, poppy seed), to spinach or asiago. The multigrain is particularly tasty. "A dozen" means a baker's dozen. The Bagel Shop also makes good sandwiches, especially the breakfast bagels. For the traditionalist, the bagel with cream cheese and lox is great. (Be careful: you can order either a cream cheese and lox or cream cheese lox. The first is a bagel smeared with cream cheese and slices of lox on top. The second is cream cheese with lox mixed in.) On Sunday mornings, the line gets quite long as the Barringtonians all come in when their church services let out.
google avatar

Anna A.

Yelp
I would give this place a 5***** but yelp filters all of my 5 star reviews for some reason so I give it a 4 star.... Went in yesterday for the first time, and got the dozen bagels deal. When I went home I realized that the server had put an extra 6 bagels in the bag as a gift! Topping off a great service with mouthwatering ch eesy super soft asiago cheese bagels makes me a fan for sure, thanks a lot!

Tomo H.

Yelp
Bagels are OK. Staff are horrible. When I came in one girl saw me but ignored me completely and continue chatting with her friends. Other girl behind the counter looks like preparing coffee didn't even look at me. I was calling for help for several times and all my calls were ignored. This is not a big shop! There's no way they didn't hear me or see me. After few minutes of waiting and asking for help, I yelled ( more like screamed) for help, then finally I was able to get one girl's attention ( the girl preparing coffee didn't even look at me again!) . If I weren't picking up order, I would just walked out.
google avatar

Johnny S.

Yelp
My lady wanted a breakfast sammy. So I obliged her. Figured I'd take her to the bagel shop in town. Bacon egg and cheese on a whole wheat bagel, cause you know she all about them whole grains. First, I've had better service from the urinal attendant. Second and most importantly, where's the meat? My girl knows how to eat, you gotta put at least 2 pieces of ham on that ish if she gonna be satisfied. She's from Long Island so there is two things she knows true, what a good piece of meat looks like, and what a bagel is supposed to be. They had neither right. Look elsewhere.
google avatar

Leah W.

Yelp
When I worked in the East Bay, this was THE stop I made to get my bagel on. Relatively convenient location, easy parking, great quality and variety, and awesome customer service. The prices are reasonable, too. Whether it's cream-cheese-lox-onion-capers on a garlic, a roast beef sandwich with lettuce and tomato on an onion, or a dozen assorted for the house, it's all good. All of it. They also cater, although that end of their business (beyond the bagel sandwiches) isn't that impressive.
google avatar

Jen C.

Yelp
The bagels are yummy, the bagel sandwiches are great. The service? not so great. I'm not always willing to wait 20 minutes for a bagel sandwich. They have plenty of girls back there making bagels, so i dont understand why it takes so long. Well, I do, the girls are constantly gabbing and it slows them down quite a bit. I am usually desperate for a bagel if I come here.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
I have a certified addiction to Bagels Etc. We have been house hunting and no trip to Barrington is complete without a stop to Bagels Etc for a sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese and a slice of tomato. It's. So. Good. The service is friendly, the bagels come fast, and these little round doughy delights are the closest I've seen to New York City-style bagels in New England. If we move to Barrington, watch out, cause I'm gonna be there on the daily.
google avatar

Zack Q.

Yelp
I have been going to "the bagel shop" since I was young. I have grown to love a number of different menu items. The cinnamon sugar bagels are amazing, and I always make sure I leave with a few extras for future meals at home. The prices have steadily rose through the years, but I think the quality it worth it. As others have mentioned, aside from a few long term employees, the rest could definitely be quicker.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
This place is way too expensive for the quality of food and time it takes for the food to get to you. I had family from out of town visit and they went here for breakfast and they couldn't even finish a bagel because they said it tasted worse than store bought. One time I ordered a wrap and grabbed a soda and cost me over $9 and the size of the wrap was miniscule.
google avatar

Christina V.

Yelp
Asiago bagel toasted with roast beef and chive cream cheese... yum! I didn't think lunch at a bagel place would be so satisfying!
google avatar

Jordan Z.

Yelp
Great bagels. Fresh and unique flavors each day. Great soups and lunch meats. the service is always great here. they have some really fun flavors of iced coffee and drinks of that nature . lunch and breakfast specials every day. if you haven't been here you need to stop in. they're always trying something new with their sandwiches. the owner stops and talks to you if he recognizes you. all around great shop
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
This is where I first fell in love with bagels. An everything bagel with cream cheese. That's all I have to say.
google avatar

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Through reading about Bagels Etc on Yelp I thought I might be able to get a good bagel in the East Bay and I was not disappointed at all. Although the trend for bagels and muffins has been bigger is better, I really appreciate that Bagels Etc sets its own path. The bagels are not huge but are a sensible size and very good. The sesame bagel toasted is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside....the places is bright and clean...the kids working there are all friendly and give a warm greeting...and for a small place the variety offered for breakfast and lunch is fine.
google avatar

Meg M.

Yelp
I tried Bagels Etc. for the first time this week and have been back once already. Its nice to find a place to grab a quick sandwich in this area featuring Boar's Head meats and cheeses. Love the excellent selection of coffee, hot and cold. Excellent service, quick and friendly. Many different kinds of bagels and cream cheeses to choose from all homemade. Try the lox bagel, it's delicious.
google avatar

Jesse B.

Yelp
I've been living in Barrington for 3 years and have missed this place entirely. The bagels here are fantastic! I can't wait to come back and try some of their wrap and salad specials for lunch - the menu for all meals is extensive. Coffee was better than Brueggers but not better than Dunkin Donuts. They need more signage I only just saw their 12 inch yard signs this past week - it's right next to the Residental real estate office. Can't wait to go back.

Michael B.

Yelp
If you're going to put the word Bagels in the name of your business, you better do bagels right. And Bagels Etc does. The bagels are always fresh, always delicious. I saw another reviewer complain about hard bagels but we've been going there for 10 years and I can't recall a bad experience, ever. Lots of varieties of bagels if that's what you like; great bagel sandwiches; great coffee -- somewhere between the overly mild Dunkin and the overly strong Starbucks. Sure, sometimes the young staff can be a little slow, particularly during school breaks when it's sort of reunion time. But as a Barrington resident, going to Bagels Etc is both about the good food and the local flavor. It's hard to not run into people you know -- either behind the counter or on the line.
