"A Williamsburg must for breakfast. The staff is always super friendly, the variety is great, and the service is fast even during the morning rush. You’re guaranteed perfectly chewy bagels with a generous amount of toppings (you’ll never get more lox than you do here), and the feel of an authentic and local shop." - Krrb

This is a pretty pricy bagel shop that also makes some unique sandwiches. However as many other reviewers say, the cream cheese portion is lackluster. Regardless, the staff are so sweet and fantastic.

I've been coming here for five years, and the last two months the service has been abysmal. Normally if you order an untoasted bagel and cc, you know it will get put together quickly. Not anymore. It's like every order is only taken one at a time, started when the previous is done, even if that order is sitting around being grilled. The last three times I've been here and ordered something cold, it's taken 10 minutes, with only one order ahead of me. No one moves with any urgency; today I heard an employee ask what hummus was to another guy. I don't miss the grumpy cashier lady, but I definitely miss the owner and his friendly demeanor. This morning, post rush hour, one 2-bagel order ahead of me, took 12 minutes for a cold bagel. This is just wild. The schmearing is also ultra inconsistent. Often it's way too little to justify the price, sometimes it's enough for two bagels.

I don’t wish to admonish this business because I know the owner is a family man truly giving his all to run a grassroots operation. Bagelsmith has some of the best bagels around, and it’s clear the community loves this spot. However, I hope this review helps to highlight some opportunities that could improve the overall experience for loyal patrons. I’ve visited Bagelsmith five times, and unfortunately, each visit has come with its own set of issues. On separate occasions, my order was lost, given to the wrong customer, made with incorrect condiments, forgotten on the prep table, or delayed by over 30 minutes—even when there were no other customers in line. It’s felt like Murphy’s Law in action every time: anything that could go wrong has gone wrong. The bagels themselves are fantastic, and I genuinely want to see this place thrive, but addressing these operational hiccups would go a long way toward enhancing the customer experience. With a bit more consistency, Bagelsmith could easily become a go-to staple for many more locals.

Google
Place looks cool and has a nice aesthetic, but the service I got was really bad. Waited 20 minutes for a breakfast sandwich and no one seemed to communicate with each other. Ordered a turkey egg and cheese on a bagel and had to tell them 4x that I was asking for regular turkey, not turkey bacon because they kept telling each other turkey bacon. Then they forgot to add cheese after giving it to me 20 minutes later. The sandwich was ok because it was cold despite me asking for it toasted

Google
Small bagel shop in Williamsburg. Went out of the way to come to Brooklyn for bagels but was slightly disappointed. Bakery itself is nice and the service is very friendly and fast, but the actual bagels themselves were extremely dense. Toasted or untoasted, it didn't make a difference as it was hard to chew and impossible to finish.

Google
Bagel Smith at Bedford Ave is our place to go to every time we’re visiting! Their bagels are always fresh and super tasty.. Vegan options are available as well and their coffee is pretty good!🙌

Google
Although the recently not so overwhelming ratings we decided to give bs a chance as we were looking for ’our’ bagel place. Turns out…we live it. We buy there multiple times a week and prepare our lunch bagel at home. Fair price, friendly employees and to prevent any problems with the charging we take the receipt with us every time or pay cash. We really love the bagels

Google
I ordered an everything bagel lightly toasted with regular cream cheese and a small hot coffee...coffee $2.50, bagel $1.50, cream cheese $1.50... but I was charged $8.71. And he didn't listen and the bagel was gummy because it wasn't lightly toasted like I asked and the coffee was bitter... 1st and last time for me

Ericka S.

Yelp
Best advice: Make Bagelsmith your last stop and grab some bagels before entering the L train station on your way back to Manhattan. Chances are good this will likely be the only bagel shop open all hours of the night. One thing I miss about no longer living in NYC or visiting there less frequently these days are the bagel shops, especially Bagelsmith...because it was kind of a rare treat given its location in Williamsburg. I never came here expecting the same quality as H&H, for example, but being an everything bagel kind of person, I always found their bagels to be good. In my opinion, the service here has always been good, and that is one of the reasons I kept returning.

Andy S.

Yelp
this place sucks, was really looking forward to a good bagel but the energy from these boys gave off that they were too cool to be working there and that you were bothering them when they had to do their job. but when talking to each other they just felt like young boys who were giggling and goofing off but then would turn around and be stone cold at you. not a good look, especially for this location. truly ruined my good memories of bagelsmith. not to mention they didn't even warm up my bagel like i asked for. :/

Dipali G.

Yelp
I got the everything bagel with scallion cream cheese and was very happy! The bagels are large and extremely filling. There are several options to choose from

Jack S.

Yelp
got a sausage egg and avo sandwich. bagel was soaked with cream cheese, impossible to eat, messy and super salty.

Thang T.

Yelp
This place was relatively close to my hotel so I gave it a shot for breakfast. They had a good variety of options. However the bagel was just averaged to me. I did not feel like walking all the way towards the bridge to get higher rated bagels. Plus it was like an extra $3-$4 for a small amount of cream cheese.

Yulia B.

Yelp
This place is definitely popular and I see why! I got a whole wheat everything bagel with omelette and avocado and it was delicious! There's only a few seats inside so you have to come early if you want to get a seat. They also have a wide selection of cold drinks and barbells protein bars.

Taj S.

Yelp
Real sad bagel. Could be cool if you lived in the middle of nowhere but if all the bagels are like the one I had, I'm not sure how the place is still open in a city of so many good bagels. My girlfriend and I both could not bother finishing them due to them being so old, super disappointing with how expensive they are too.

Joi B.

Yelp
Bagelsmith has come a long long way from its early days back in the late 'aughts when The Bagel Shop was the mainstay on the Northside (does anyone say "the Northside" anymore?). I remember thinking I'd only come here if the line at the other place was out the door on a weekend morning, because the Bagel Shop had better bagels with more seeds and more non dairy CC options. The other evening, I was fiending for a bagel and popped in here for an everything pumpernickel with olive tofu CC. The guy working behind the counter had to be one of the friendliest people I've ever encountered in Williamsburg! Like so friendly, I'd want to hang out in the store and chat with him and I never want to hang around in stores and chat with strangers. My bagel was perfect, with just the right amount of everything and just the right amount of CC. I did the New York thing that I don't do anywhere else and took a stroll on the cold streets feeding my face and window shopping. It was good.

Ankita B.

Yelp
Oof - such a sad excuse for a New York bagel! I threw the entire thing in the trash. $10+ for an orange juice and a regular bagel with cream cheese.... Make it make sense. The bagel was so chewy and old, and they slabbed a pound of cream cheese in the middle. Not that hard to make a bagel, but they managed to make it disgusting. The woman working at the front desk has no customer service skills. I said "Hi" and she looked down, never told me the total amount of my order, just put out her hand for the card. No eye contact, no greeting.

Ruby S.

Yelp
We bought some non-new Yorker friends here who have always wanted to try NY bagels. Though we were the only ones there at the time, the food and drinks took unusually long to come out. The hot chocolate drinks were very water-like when they did finally come out 20 minutes later. Bagels were approximately $2 with another $3-4 for spreads. I liked the scallion cream cheese on everything bagel. Overall, maybe a good spot if you're in a rush and need a quick bite. In the same time, I get it - it's a store in Williamsburg where the transplants have taken over, who more often than not take anything. Good luck to the business in continuing to attract that type of client, but it's a No from this native New Yorker due to the lack of "wow" factor for bagels, the easiest staple of NY cuisine.

Plotinus B.

Yelp
Don't bother ordering online. If you're nearby, go in and order in person. You'll get your bagel faster. I stopped in on April 6, 2024, after sending in my order and patiently waiting the 30-odd minutes they recommended. The order was ready at least a few minutes earlier than expected but the order webpage never updated; I was just standing inside unaware that my food was waiting until a cashier mentioned my order. The food itself was okay--lox and cream cheese on an everything--but nothing remarkable, and was cold by the time I got back to my hotel. Inside the store is very cramped and can get noisy.

Hiral P.

Yelp
Pretty slow even though there weren't that many people. Also not charged correctly (according to the menu) but I didn't care to say anything for a dollar or two. I didn't like their avocado spread because it was somewhere in between being a spread and being sliced avocados, it was not a smooth spread like other bagel shops. Probably wouldn't go back

Sam A.

Yelp
This place is pretty decent! Friendly staff and never too crowded. It's not the best bagel you can get in NYC, but it's a good enough spot in Williamsburg.

Marie R.

Yelp
Super tasty and definently popular. Although it is a bit pricey the bagels always have weight to them which makes me feel better.

Phil H.

Yelp
Still worth the subway ride from Manhattan to get Sunday morning bagels here. Soft and chewy with a nice crisp outside on their everything bagels today. With the L train stop being right in front of it the convenience is terrific, especially on a 15 degree chilly day.

Philip G.

Yelp
I've given Bagelsmith too many chances, and this is my last straw. The bagels will always disappoint. The cream cheese to bagel ratio is terrible and the bagel itself tastes bad. Fire all those people and hire someone who understands the anatomy of a bagel. Be better.

Kendall G.

Yelp
I have given this spot so many tries. It is always disappointing!! The bagels are always slightly stale - very bready and undercooked. They're never golden, always white. Even when you order it toasted it comes ice cold!!! If your alternative is a Thomas bagel, go here, but otherwise stay away

Barbara M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I ordered an egg, cheese, and hashbrown on an egg everything bagel, and it was perfection. The flavors were spot-on, and the bagel was fresh and warm. Despite the busy morning rush, the staff at Bagelsmith were incredibly fast and efficient. Highly recommend this place for a fantastic bagel experience!

Oscar T.

Yelp
Drove all the way from New Rochelle to order a ham egg and cheese bagel. Waited 15 minutes for this pathetic excuse. Seriously, you'd get better tasting food at half the cost in the fraction of time literally anywhere else. The Bronx, even Midtown Manhattan. Fairly disappointed and won't be returning. This place would be impressive to the thousands of non New Yorkers who live in this area but to the average new yorker... THIS PLACE SUCKS. (I'm basing my review purely on the food and not on any political stance that other reviewers have left as I do not care) Edit: (10 minutes later) Nope, I tried to eat the bagel, it was absolutely disgusting. Had to spit it out before throwing up.

William M.

Yelp
Third times a charm. This place continues to disappoint and will be the last time I go here. Ordered a bagel with cream cheese. There's barely anything on it. Sad day for a ny bagel.

Christine P.

Yelp
A very solid 3 stars maaaybe 3.5. Bagelsmith is located (literally) right outside of the Bedford ave L train station! Super convenient. I have been a few times and each time has been decent. I went this past week on my way to a client and there were ppl in there but the line moved quickly. I recognized the same guy on register, which has always been fast and friendly (thank you, boo)! Btw, I think he lost some weight too! Moving on...the place is tiny. 2 or maybe 3 ppl can eat inside. You go to the left of the store, get online and give your order when asked by the guy behind the counter. I placed my regular order which is an everything bagel with bacon, scallion cream cheese. The bagels are pretty solid! However, the audacity to charge almost $7 for this when there was barely any bacon! SMFH! I think not! Will I go here if I am in the area and have a bagel craving? Probably! lol. DM me if there are any other bagel spots in the area since I haven't seen any.

Aaron F.

Yelp
Here is their $8 lox bread bagel. In the little cream cheese there is, you can't see or taste any lox. Terrible spot.

Daniela L.

Yelp
One thing is for sure - there isn't any shortage of bagel shops in the city. The Bagelsmith location on Bedford Ave doesn't stand out from the pack, but it's still miles above the bagels found outside of the New York/New Jersey area. The prices are reasonable at $1.25 per bagel (by itself, with nothing on it), and the line wasn't terrible on a Sunday morning. There were several varieties lining the bagel bins, and I selected the whole wheat everything; the exterior's texture was spot-on, with a crispy crust, and it was complemented by a soft, airy interior. There was some degree of chewiness to the bagel, but not as much as there should have been, in my opinion. The whole wheat everything did have a relatively even distribution of toppings - there were enough seeds to cover the outer layer without going overboard. Because of the convenience factor, I will probably go back on the weekends occasionally for breakfast, but I won't go out of my way to come here. That isn't to say the bagels aren't good - they just aren't amazing.

Simon Jay K.

Yelp
Bad food, stale bagel, awful service. Don't waste your money - also overpriced and cramped space

Steve A.

Yelp
Bagelsmith is yet another place for bagels. It does them Williamsburg style. That means they're average tasting and cost as if they're excellent tasting. A good thing is having the vegan choices. You can get the fake cream cheese with yours. By the name alone you know they have bagels. It by far is the best thing to get here. They also have a few other deli staples. It gets super busy at breakfast. The array of toppings means you can get something for later too. I like getting the vegan cream cheese, so I like getting here early in the morning. It's $1 for a bagel, and about $3 more to get a spread. The vegan cream cheese is a lot like Tofutti. It may be the same thing, but it tastes a little fresher. That leads me to believe they make this in house, but they may actually not. Get it on a toasted bagel. It helps melt the cheese. The cream cheese is the one part I like, while the bagels usually are forgettable. It should be easy to ignore this with so many places to get bagels. Most places have cheaper and fresher bagels than here. The vegan cream cheese is also becoming more common so not as many reasons for going here.

Craig Z.

Yelp
The blueberry bagel was the best I've ever had. Had the most blueberry flavor and nice juicy pieces. Maybe they use fresh blueberries in the summer. I'll check back, but if not, then I'll definitely go again next year!

Nico M.

Yelp
Cream cheeses have had a sour taste for a while now! But you can't get a better NY bagel.

Shoshana E.

Yelp
My bagel had to be remade twice. The first time, the woman at the cashier begrudgingly went back to let the staff know, and it again came out wrong. The second time it came out incorrectly, I went to let the staff know myself and was met with attitude. Finally got my bagel and it was cold, not toasted, and only half scooped. Don't waste your time or money here, the bagel is mediocre at best anyways.. You'd be better off at pretty much any other bagel place. The woman who works at the cashier is also routinely rude. Get it together!

Tom B.

Yelp
I was gonna order online and just pick it up but they charge a $1.75 convenience fee to do that. It all came to $18 for chicken salad and tomato on an everything bagel!! That's crazy! So I went there to order to avoid the convenience fee and I discovered that in the store the same chicken salad with tomato on an everything bagel is priced at $10.75. Online it costs $15.00!! Plus $1.75 "Convenience fee." They have some nerve charging $4.25 more to order online and then adding on the convenience fee. Long story short- Don't order online. It's a double rip off. Better yet don't even go there. The sandwich was bland and the bagel was hard and tough. If you read my other reviews you'll see I'm pretty positive. If I don't like a place I usually won't leave a review. But I've really had it with this place and I feel they deserve to be called out for this nonsense. Bedford Ave deserves a better bagel .

Ray T.

Yelp
This use to be one of favorite bagel places. I visited today and have to say that it wasn't a good experience. I ordered I scooped out tofu veg plain bagel. When I got it there was hardly and tofu, I mean not even visible. The bagel was hard and didn't seem like the same bagels I use to order. Disappointing for a $7 bagel. Could just be an off day

Ayesha A.

Yelp
hate to say it but taste wise this was honestly the worst bagel i've had in nyc. staff was nice and they moved through the line quickly despite the crowd. bagel was just straight up not good and cream cheese was really bad. the ratio of cream cheese to bagel owas also terrible.

Grace L.

Yelp
I got the everything bagel with bacon scallion cream cheese, lettuce, and tomato. For $5, it was a relatively cheap but filling meal. The bacon scallion cream cheese didn't have as much flavor as expected, but otherwise it tastes as expected!

Emma E.

Yelp
It doesn't take much effort to make a decent breakfast sandwich but they couldn't even manage to melt the cheese, not to mention that it is 99% bagel. I know places charging half the amount for a better sandwich. My suggestion; don't waste your time waiting in line here for a sad, sad breakfast sandwich. Edit* I had felt bad leaving a poor review because I know it's tough times for restaurants out here but apparently their politics are worse than their sandwiches. Will not be stepping foot in here again and when friends come to visit, we'll get food elsewhere.

Alex L.

Yelp
One of the kindest staff I have ever met. On my day off after LASIK, I was craving a good brunch. Unfortunately, nothing was open nearby so I decided to get a bacon egg and cheese on an onion bagel. The staff was super cheery and made me feel right at home. The bagel was soft yet crispy on the outside. Love this spot 5/5!

Cherie L.

Yelp
You can't really go wrong with a bacon egg and cheese bagel in NYC, but bagel smith does some magic to make it really good!! Probably the best one I've had so far, the bacon isn't chewy or too crispy, the bagel is nice and toasted, and the egg is cooked perfectly. The cheese is nice and melty too! Highly recommend

Phil C.

Yelp
Solid bagels. No complaints at all. The breakfast bagel (sausage egg and cheese) is as good a bagel as any. The staff was incredibly fast and efficient. Solid new york bagel shop

Anna G.

Yelp
So Good! I ordered the #9 bagel sandwich on a plain bagel. The bagel was SO soft, and all of the sandwich ingredients were so fresh! The bagel/wich was so big I couldn't get a solid bite, in a good way. It was a big bagel and stacked with turkey and veggies. Only prob is it was pricey. Its not a mom and pop bagel/egg/cheese for $3 type of spot. I ordered the #9 sandwich, 2 black & white cookies and a chocolate chip cookie (all mini sized cookies), chips, no drink and my total was $17. It is small inside, they have a counter with 4 or 5 stools to sit at. And they do have a wide selection of bagels, muffins, cookies, sandwiches, mixed salads and drinks-so you will not have a problem finding something you like, should you choose to try them out.

Hunter S.

Yelp
A local bagel chain that struck my eye while strolling around Brooklyn, Bagelsmith offers the choice of a variety of sandwiches on a variety of bagels. While I'll say that it was a pleasant place to stop, the sandwich was decent but nothing to write home about. It was a little on the greasy side and did not have a great flavor that I expected. I would recommend trying it, but not the classic New York bagel I was looking for.

Tommy B.

Yelp
good baggels they taste god the cheese also i would eat again 10 10. yum yum yum yum.

Clidège P.

Yelp
I went here today based on my best friend's recommendation. I want to start by saying that the blueberry bagel I purchased was solid and worth the trip. The service was absolutely atrocious! I ordered a blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese and received a blueberry bagel with plain cream cheese. I ordered an ice coffee with hazelnut syrup, Oatmilk, and sugar. The first rendition looked like dirty water. The second rendition which had half and half added tasted like water. The third rendition, which I asked to have remade, tasted like ever so slightly sweetened water with cream. Finally, I ordered a chocolate chip muffin which the young man at the cash register asked me to repeat but still managed to give me a carrot cake muffin (I only realized that hours later after I got home). The cashier rang me up and never told me what my total was and didn't offer me a receipt. Maybe others haven't had my experience but I would say that The Bagelsmith will have to be a hard pass for me the next time I have a bag cravin.

JC P.

Yelp
Service just keeps getting worse. I ordered a dozen bagels....and waited and waited and waited. No one else was in shop. I left and will NEVER return.

Rishi A.

Yelp
Almost never leave a review but: - Small bagel - Overcharged me - asked for toasted, did not toast - asked for added jalapeño, literally 2 small jalapeños that seemed like from a jar / not fresh Williamsburg deserves a better bagel shop

Aubrey W.

Yelp
I was super excited to try some authentic New York bagels, and Bagelsmith came highly recommended. However, the meal fell a little short for me. For starters, it was almost $10 for a vegetarian bagel sandwich (I got the eggplant sandwich on a sourdough bagel, which consisted of eggplant, mozzarella, and sun dried tomatoes). Secondly, my bagel was incredibly oily, to the point it was dripping oil every bite. Additionally, there was only 3 counter seats in the restaurant. Given that it is New York, it was very difficult for us to find a place to sit and eat. Overall, the bagel itself was solid but I didn't really enjoy the toppings, especially considering the price.

Devon O.

Yelp
Funny that one of my 1st thoughts was that "this is not where you get a bacon egg and cheese" and there it is, a negative bacon, egg and cheese review! This is a place where you let the bagelSMITHS do what they do best and allow them to craft you something special. I myself was a little skeptical about a bagel with sundried tomato and bagel cream cheese as I love cream cheese, and don't believe you should do too much to it, but sun dried tomato? One of the few things I actually don't like potentially ruining something I love was unheard of. This was something else though. I will say it was great, not my favorite thing in the world, but they did make the sundried tomato edible even for me, and the cream cheese was masterfully done. Almost "pillowy" in terms of cream texture, while being somewhat on the sharp side in taste. Some of the best cream cheese I have ever had. Since then my father in law has driven out just for the cream cheese and a few bagels for a group he hosts Saturday mornings. Thank you. If this were closer to me, I'd drop by regular in the mornings.

AP P.

Yelp
Soooo overpriced! They charge extra for everything. There were literally 3 leaves of spinach (that I paid extra for) on my bagel, I almost went back thinking they forgot to put it on. Never again

Pablo V.

Yelp
They charged me $3.49 for taxes plus a additional 1.22 for god knows what all that on top of the bagel price. My Lox bagel came to 16.97 I will never get a bagel from here again because they are not a about customer service, their about ripping off the customer.

Martin O.

Yelp
Excellent bagels. Just wished they would toast 'em a little darker when I order a toasted plain. Other than that, we are very blessed to have a real bagel shop in the area. And a bonus, you can swipe pay any amount. That's a great convenience, as I hardly ever have any real cash on me - I know I'm not the only one.

Adam F.

Yelp
Simultaneously crisp and soft; good variety and quick service. Good location next to the L as well.
