Two weeks in the Campaina Region of Italy and one thing I've come to appreciate is how different the way restaurants here get the food they serve. Back home much of the food we eat isn't local but imported and shipped to us. But everything from the olive oil to the wine, the tomatoes and all other produce and seafood is from Sorrento.
Delfino takes all those ingredients to provide the best meal of my trip. And while I tried many dishes the two that are a must are the Fruitti di Mare and Risotto Delfino. Here's a list of what I ordered:
Mixed Salad: this is a nice amount mixed lettuce with tomato and shredded carrot. Along with the local olive oil and vino which provides a tangy bite which is very tasty.
Spaghetti Bolognese: portion size is pretty good. They don't drown it in ragu like back home, and I won't lie, I like mine drown in gravy but I enjoyed the Bolognese nonetheless.
Mixed Fried seafood: a combo of fried shrimp, sardines, and calamari. Huge portions of fried seafood, so if thats what you're in the mood for, this dish will hit the spot.
Grilled Swordfish: this is a large slice of Swordfish served grilled like a steak.
Risotto Delfino: this was the most memorable entree of my two weeks in Italy. Just an amazing risotto with all sorts of little treasures of seafood. Squid, Clams, Mussels, and Shrimp. The generous amounts of seafood and just the flavor together make for a great entree. It's like a seafood paella but better.
Fruitti di Mare: this dish is comparable with the risotto. Just a simple light tomato based sauce with a large amount of shellfish and pasta.
Service is very friendly. Expect a little bit of a wait because food is prepared fresh. The views from Delfino are amazing as part of the dining room reaches out into the Mediterranean sea. Afterward Delfino even provides chairs for sunbathing, changing rooms, and a shower for those who wish to lay out or swim with the fishes.
