Baguette House & Cafe

My friends and I came here on a Sunday morning so it was pretty busy but we were able to find a table in the back corner. My friends ordered beef bahn mi’s with sugar cane juice and I got the house special combination bahn mi with cafe sua da (vietnamese coffee). The sugar cane juice was refreshing and the cafe sua da had that nice roasted flavor and was strong- it helped me through the drive back to HTX. Speaking of HTX, I’m pretty spoiled with the Vietnamese food there but the bahn mi here is decent! Overall, the food/drinks were good, the service was pretty fast, and the lovely ambiance was full of Vietnamese aunts and uncles having a great time with their family.

Baguette House in Austin is such a hidden gem. I got the beef banh mi and it was good with super crispy bread, just a little thinner than most banh mis I’ve had, but still one of the better spots in the city. I also grabbed the viet coffee and it was fire, especially after the ice watered it down a bit. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re craving a solid banh mi and coffee!!

Grabbed a sandwich for lunch & was pleasantly delighted! Had the house special & plan on trying the BBQ pork on my next trip. Friendly & quick service, great price, & it’s on my daily route! I’ll be back for more soon! Probably tomorrow. 😄

Baguette House and Cafe is my go-to when I’m craving a fresh, flavorful Vietnamese bánh mì. The baguettes are perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and generously filled with fresh vegetables, herbs, and well-seasoned meats. My favorite is the beef which is savory, and just the right amount of sweetness. The service is quick and efficient, making it great for a lunch break or a grab-and-go snack. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and portions are filling without being heavy. The space itself is casual and straightforward — not fancy, but clean and welcoming.

The Vietnamese coffee was an awkward texture grainy but the flavor was good. It didn’t taste watered down like the other places I’ve been to. A good banh mi without paying $15 at a restaurant. I will 100% be coming back here!

I got the vegetarian banh mi and definitely tastes so fresh. Gotta to be one of the best I ever had. Would come back again.

A nice little Vietnamese Bánh mì Caffe, I think I already visited their Caffe 3 times already. To me shrimp Bánh mì is the best. Also love their coconut & pandan jello.

Ugh. There is no coming back from this ick. Many years ago, Baguette House was my favorite spot for banh mi. Life happened and they fell out of my rotation, but we were in the area yesterday and I was so excited to introduce my young daughter to their sandwiches. Since she is ill-equipped for the complexities of banh mi, I ordered her the ham and cheese croissant. She took a bite, then immediately spit it out and complained about it tasting "like dirt." I thought she was just being a picky kid so I didn't investigate further. Instead, I packaged it up and took it home to eat later. Less than 24 hours later, I just tried to eat the sandwich and the ham tasted absolutely putrid. I, too, instantly spit it out. The ham was a gray color and smelled beyond sour. I am so glad my daughter also spit it out or she almost certainly would have gotten food poisoning. I wish I'd considered the possibility of spoiled meat while we were dining in so I could have escalated this issue to the staff. It's beyond concerning that anyone would put such obviously unsafe meat on a sandwich. For anyone thinking that the ham could have gone bad after I left, the sandwich went straight into a refrigerator within 30 minutes of preparation and was consumed within 24 hours. I cannot in good conscience ever eat here again, nor can I recommend it for anyone else. Very sad decline from what was once a favorite.

A Vietnamese sandwich shop in the MT Market Plaza. One thing I want to point out is that their prices are very similar to Houston, which makes it more appealing to me in the first place. It is a small bakery/restaurant so sitting can be hard to get at times. I can see that they make their own bread as I was waiting for my order. The bread is slightly smaller than what I am used to from Houston, but the texture was also on point. I got the #6, which is the grilled pork and a sugarcane juice. The wait can be a bit long as most things are made or put together after you order. Overall, a good, decent spot for banh mi if you aren't looking to break your bank like some other locations around Austin.

I'm from California and love banh mi's. This place is my go to for the house special baguette with pate. The bread is always fresh and the pork is always top notch. Anytime I'm home sick I love coming to this place. Also, I always call ahead to make a To go order and the service is always seamless.

I'll give them this, from the moment I swiped my credit card payment, my banh mi and coffee was handed to me in under a minute. With that being said, that tells me they don't make it to order. The cafe sua da was probably one of the worst ones I've ever had, and I've had more than plenty in my lifetime. The banh mi was below average. the bread is very thin and long, like a breadstick, not like the fluffy crusty French baguette style you'd normally get. I'd compare it to Ba Le bakery (from the east coast), it's good, but seems to cater more to tourists and not Vietnamese people. $12 for a special and iced coffee

Food: * #1 House Special 4/5 - solid banh mi choice. Thin narrow baguette that's like a foot long with a crunch to the crust and a soft interior. 6ish slices of meat and pate with crisp veggies. * #7 Meatball def not what I expected and overly salty 2/5 Service is fast and the interior is super clean and bright. I'm not raving to go back, but it's very conveniently located if you just went shopping at MT supermarket or are grabbing a drink at Bambu! Plus there is plenty of parking with no need for parallel parking.

Came here with a coworker to pick up some food for lunch and got the grilled pork bahn mi sandwich. The bread was good and the meat was tender but I wish the veggies were pickled more. They didn't have much flavor to them and I'm used to bahn mi sandwiches having some really good crunchy pickled veggies in it. The service was great, very fast and the staff was nice. The restaurant itself is smaller but has some seating inside. My coworker got a strawberry smoothie and let me try it and it was sooo good.

It's not the best baguette I've had- their vietnamese mayo doesn't stand out as this other place Ba Le in Philly, and the bread could be fluffier and meat less dry. Their banh mi is actually tinier and skinnier than other places. However, you can't really beat the price! If you're hungry and want some decent food, this place is it.

The #1 house special combination banh mi from Baguette House is my FAVORITE sandwich in all of North Austin. From its perfect ratio of meat to fresh veggies, to the rich Vietnamese mayo and liver pâté spread inside, I find myself craving it almost weekly. A simple café located in Chinatown Center, it's hard to resist stopping in after doing my groceries at MT Supermarket - especially when the cost of their menu items are so low! I also highly recommend their pâté chaud (savory puff pastry), iced coffee, and avocado smoothie! Will continue being a regular here until I move out of the neighborhood.

I need to come up to north Austin wayyyy more often. Their service was fast and the packaging was convenient and efficient. I got the #1 house special banh mi sandwich and it was so good! The bread was fresh and I noticed that some people came in JUST to pick up baguettes. Also the honeydew smoothie was soooo good. I did a happy dance when I tried it lol. Great experience for my first banh mi! Will definitely come back.

We've been on a Banh mi tour and figured Baguette House was the perfect place to start! The beef inside wasn't too memorable but I loved how crispy the bread came out. The jalapeños are very hot so be warned.

My favorite banh mi shop in Austin. Not only is it affordable, but it is delicious as well. You're not going to find a place that will sell you a banh mi under $7 anymore. I've been coming here the past few months and the food is always consistent and I never really have any complaints. My usual is the dac biet special sandwich, an order of goi cuon with nem, and an ice coffee. I would say 10/10 times it taste the exactly the same as I ordered last time and it never disappoints.

My favorite bahn mi in the city, house made baguette makes for a perfect spongey bread with a hard crunchy crispy outside. The pork and traditional toppings make it the perfect lunch spot or meal prep option.

Baguette House is my go-to place for Banh Mi whenever I need a quick meal! I got the combo with ham, carrots, cilantro, etc. It's fast, delicious, and inexpensive. It's located in the Austin Chinatown so it's convenient to go to the supermarket or get a sweet drink

I went out of my way to try to get a house because let's face it I love bread and I love baguettes. I was really excited because I haven't had bahn mi in a long time. I heard that they make their big expression house hence the name of the restaurant but unfortunately I don't think this was the case as the sandwich I ordered was mids at best. I'm used to crunchy on the outside soft on the inside baguette. This was dry flaky almost crusty sandwich itself was very mediocre. I don't think the vegetables were fresh no fresh jalapeño on the sandwich. It's a pass for me. I probably won't be back, but I did have high hopes and I do have high hopes that the quality will get better here because it has potential.

The food was unbelievable its was amazing. The service was amazing to they were very sweet and very patient. I've been here for years and its never did wrong. The place is kept clean and smells amazing. You should for sure come here.

Food was good the handrolls or spring rolls have good quality meat in them with lots of vegetables. One downgrade would be the ban mi itself was a little pricey on the sandwich with what you go and the meat you don't really get the best amount of meat for the price you pay. I did try one of the desert the flan and I would say out of 10 it was like a 3 wasn't the best flavor had a sour after taste and just wasn't worth the price for such a small portion. Also one workers was on her phone who handed me food and had here headphones in like it was a gas station store. And I had to come back and grab my dessert because they forgot to put it in my bag.

Fast and tasty. I'm used to amazing, brimming with filling Bahn Mi in Houston. Baguette house has good bread but it's narrow, so the sandwich is narrow which means there isn't much in it. I was not hungry after but definitely not the size and quantity I'm used to at other bahn mi places. (in Houston)

Super authentic place with authentic cheaper prices :) I love how this place specializes in bread because a good loaf makes a quality base for the sandwich. I got the vegetarian Banh Mi. Pretty good, the tofu was scrambled and the vegetables were fresh. Each bite was very satisfying and for $6 the sandwich was really big. The bread was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Not a bad banh mi. Gets kind of busy during lunch time, but worth the wait.

Customer service: maybe 2 stars Food: 4 stars Order: -Grilled pork spring rolls with peanut sauce & duck sauce -Iced Vietnamese Coffee (no ice) My order was part of a much larger order that was delivered. Since I know from personal experience with deliveries from various restaurants how deliveries can go, I was very explicit about my order. The grilled pork spring rolls were delicious and incredibly large .. HUGE! I mean, OMG! I could not finish the order. That alone earns 5 stars!!! No peanut or duck sauce, but I'm still pleased with what they did include, which was hoison sauce and chili. As for the (no ice) Iced Vietnamese Coffee ... two reasons I said no ice: I like a strong flavor, so I did not want it diluted with melting ice, and, more importantly, I wanted more coffee since I was not paying for ice cubes. Coffee flavor earned 3 stars. I was ripped off on the coffee! I paid too much for a few sips. Customer service: Failure to provide me with what I ordered and paid for: 1.5 stars. I will gladly order the spring rolls again. No more beverages unless I'm there to watch them filling the order and can ensure I get what I pay for.

Main staple in Austin for banh mi but man do I wish the bread was fluffier and crispier! I can't knock it too much since we will never have all the options that Houston and even Dallas has, but it scratches the itch.

One of the better banh mi sandwiches we've had in town. Good bang for your buck, $6.50 is not too bad especially here in Austin! Simple design but it has all the essentials to make for a banh mi sandwich. Crispy roll, well-cooked meat, cilantro, jalapeño all done well. No pate which I'm ok with, although I think there were some other banh mi sandwiches with pate if you're interested in going that route. Overall great value banh mi!!

This is my long time go-to for banh mi in Austin. I know the classic is pork, but I dislike one of the types of pork on their house combination sandwich (it's a pork loaf with mixed textures, one of which is hard enough to keep making me think I've just bitten into some cartilage, so I tend to skip that one.) I usually go for the rotisserie chicken as a result, and it's delicious. The baguettes are always crispy outside and pillowy inside, and the veggies have a nicely pickled quality. The banh mi always taste fresh here, and are an excellent value--2023 price hikes haven't hit here yet. Service is friendly and fast too! I'm always a happy customer here.

Lots of Vietnamese people live and work and own businesses up here, and they are served well by this wonderful Vietnamese sandwich shop with cheap Banh Mi that are delicious and excellent. I can't give it any less than a 5.

I've been here dozens of times for their tofu bahn mi and it's always been great! Make it vegan without the mayo/paste. Today I got the tofu spring rolls as well and they were hefty and delicious. I love this place!

One of the few places that banh mi is not exorbitantly priced. Baguette is tasty and meat portions are decent here. They got my order wrong, but that is fine since the two banhmi were the same price. They gave me their grilled pork instead of the meatballs, but the grilled pork was still pretty good. Would come back to get the meatballs in future

Tried Baguette House for the first time and was not impressed. Also, my husband and I both had some tummy trouble after eating here. The banh mi was okay. I liked how the baguette was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The meat was not as flavorful as others I've had. The carrots didn't taste very pickled. Spring rolls were mediocre. Our search for our favorite banh mi place continues!

Stopped in for lunch today, haven't been here in quite some time so we thought we'd check it out and get some baguette sandwiches. I ordered the #3, pork meatloaf and pate baguette. Overall, the sandwich was really good, but I have this thing about looking at a sandwich and seeing what appears to be slices of sandwich meat instead of pieces of protein instead. Some of the other Vietnamese restaurants I've gone to actually serve chunks of pork and or chicken. For me it gives it a more realistic Vietnamese taste experience. No doubt though the French bread was very delicious, it's just that I seem to have a mental block against a sandwich that has slices on it that looks like you could have gotten it at any store to make that sandwich. While it was very good, it's all about texture and appearance for me to make this a five star.

A close to perfect day for me involves a Vietnamese sandwich and coffee. Baguette House has a good bit of both, along with a number of other awesome baked items. Situated on the corner of a strip mall, I was ready to dive right in with all that this place had to offer. Like many cafes, Baguette House has just enough seating for a small groups to convene. Since the front door opens to a narrow space, the bottlenecking hazard can get nutty during their busy hours. Thankfully there is a large enough parking lot to accommodate the demand, as well as a robust staff. Their ca phe sua da is nice and sweet, if not a tad potent with the coffee. I am always hoping a little more liquid and less ice, but they fill it to the brim here. Their banh mi is really solid as the bread is baked in house. Every Viet sandwich is under $5, with the exception of the cajun shrimp. ($6.50) The paté chaud ($2) is really good and the bánh bao is a tad on the dry side. They have a few miscellaneous things here, such as croissants and Americanized sandwiches that feature deli meats like smoked turkey and pastrami. They have Vietnamese beef stew (bo kho) here and even started serving Hainanese chicken (com ga hai nam). I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to want to the latter, especially in a place that is more cafe oriented than a food stall setup. Service seems amiable, but they are a tad on the slow side. Some cafes are pretty automatic with coffee drinks, but I know they're rocking the drip and thus everything is made to order. While it might not be my go-to spot in Austin, I'm comforted in knowing this place has most of everything I could want in a Vietnamese coffee shop.

We decided to give Baguette House a try because I wanted to see what the bánh mì in Austin was like. Well, to say the least, I was a bit disappointed. We ordered the House Special Combination Baguette, House Combination Baguette, BBQ Pork Baguette, Meatball Baguette, Pork Steam Bun, and Avocado Smoothies. To give a little background about myself: I absolutely love bánh mì and have tried a variety of them, from different places -- Vietnam; Dong Phuong Bakery in New Orleans, LA; Quoc Bao in Garland, TX; and a couple of others in California. There was nothing really special about the bánh mì at Baguette House. The House Special Combination, House Combination Baguette, and Meatball Baguette were fairly underwhelming. I wish it had more flavor. The BBQ Pork Baguette was the best bánh mì out of all that we ordered. All of the bread was also fairly crispy. The Pork Steam Bun was not good at all, and I'd go as far as to say that it wasn't worth it. It tasted old and soggy, though the staff heated it for me right then and there. I will say that the Pork Steam Bun is fairly cheap in comparison to other bakeries, though. The Avocado Smoothie was also not something worth getting. We couldn't taste the Avocado flavor, but we definitely tasted a flavor of vanilla ice cream. Powder or not, it didn't taste or resemble an Avocado Smoothie. Moving on to the customer service -- although the staff member assisted me with my order, I felt like I was unwanted. I walked in, and because it was my first time, I asked her if she could wait a moment. I immediately saw an eye roll -- that should have warranted us to leave, but because we were already there, might as well try out the food. As I proceed to place my order with her, she seemed very uninterested and kept looking at my friends and not me, though I was the one placing the order. There was no one else there except for us, so it's not like something was too interesting that she couldn't even be bothered with. Baguette House was a place I really wanted to visit because I wanted to try Vietnamese food in Austin. Little did I know it was a disappointment. If you visit Baguette House and would like to try a bánh mì, I'd recommend the BBQ Pork Baguette since it was the best I've tried. I also wanted to try the Pate So, but they ran out by the time I came. The big reason for the rating is due to the customer service and then the food. No one wants to walk inside a business and feel unwelcome, but that's exactly how I felt, whether I spoke English/Vietnamese to the staff member who took the order. The bánh mì, for what you get: quality and amount, is fairly expensive. I've been to better places, with cheaper bánh mì and discounts (i.e. Buy 3 Get 1 Free).

We decided to give Baguette House a try yesterday. First off, I thought their prices are quite resonable and service was both friendly and fast and the items we got were very delicious! I got the House Special Combination Bahn Mi ($5.25) which includes more meat and a small bag of baguette croutons for later. I tried to get my daughter to be adventurous but she played it safe and got a Turkey Sandwich ($6.25) and a Strawberry Smoothie with Boba. We were both completely impressed and satisfied with our 10-inch baguette sandwiches. The baguette rolls were soft but crispy and flaky at the same time. With that being said, the fact that we tried to eat in the car wasn't such a good idea (vacuums here I come!). The meats were good and the veggies were so fresh and crunchy. Loved it! The smoothie was around $4.50 and her only complaint was that it got watery fast but that could've been attributed to the fact that it was 106 degrees outside. The croutons were $3 and added a nice crunch and flavor to a salad we had later. I'll definitely be back to try more of their offerings or to get another Bahn Mi!

Banh Mi! :3 Baguette house is a great spot for Vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi). They do have other types of orders like croissants, spring rolls, and smoothies but I usually go there for their sandwiches. The one I recommend is the "house special" since it's just a mixture of multiple types of meat. My friends enjoy their BBQ pork one but I've never tried. The sandwiches averages around to $6 depending on the type of meat you would like. Since sandwiches are easy to make, there's not much of a wait when you put in your order. The other item I recommend is their "pate chaud". Basically a hot meat pastry, they do it really well and I heard it usually runs out! (Luckily not for me every-time I go. Depends on later in the day I guess. ) Would recommend taking it home since it's just more comfortable like that vs the small tables provided inside.

This is truly and I liked mine situation. I ordered the turkey on a croissant while my wife had the grilled for spring rolls which she thought would be a safe choice. Don't.They were how should I say , "different" then what were used to. The turkey slams because they are a bakery so it's a massive croissant with a huge amount of flakiness to the likes I've never seen. little bit on the turkey only one tomato slice. I'm glad I didn't get the spring rolls iced coffee slams.

I'll miss this place when I move. The baguette is the most important part of making these banh mi sandwiches delicious (debatable, don't fight me) and they use delicious baguettes. The ingredients are fresh and proteins are tasty. The food is ready right on time in the time frames that give you and the staff is friendly. There's not a single thing about this place that I can find issue with. If I make it back by soon, I'll probably try some of their baked goods as well. Also, do order a Thai Iced Tea as well. Thank me later.

I happened to stop by here in the morning because I needed a quick snack before heading to an event. It was quite busy when we had arrived. I liked the many different options they have of Banh mi but I always just order the special everywhere I go. I love cold cuts! The bread was nice and flaky. Light and not dense at all! Probably one of the better breads I've tried so far. With that being said, the overall taste of Banh mi was quite dry. Needed more butter. And wish they had added a little more veggies. That would of made the Banh mi less dry. With that said, not bad for Banh mi. I would definitely stop by again whenever I'm in Austin!

The house banh mi here is amazing! Went with some friends and it was super affordable and tons of great food. Their pork bun and spring rolls were also really flavorful, fresh, and cheap. Would definitely recommend

This is the only Banh Mi shop I'll come to in Austin. They offer a variety of Vietnamese sandwiches and little bites that remind me of home. I'm a fan of the simple growing up with these, the Pork Patty with Pate Sandwich. However, for those looking for the more familiar, they also serve the BBQ Pork Sandwich or Combination Sandwich. Warning: not meant for lactose intolerants or those allergic to dairy, we learned the hard way. They use the same utensils to spread butter, and to also grab your meats.

I used to visit the baguette house all the time when I lived in north austin. hadn't been in years. I was looking forward to it. the sandwiches are not as I remember. I most likely won't visit again. there are a few other places I like better. unfortunate but true.
