Yelp
At the end of the day, just OK food.
I've been pleasantly surprised at how good the food has been at many of the restaurant chains I frequented in the past few years, so the standard has definitely been raised for me.
So in comes Bahama Breeze - unfortunately for it.
We dropped in on a random Thursday evening at around 6pm and the restaurant wasn't crowded, as expected, but there were still more people than I would think would dine here on a Thursday.
Before I get into the food, let me start by saying - the staff was very friendly here - from the folks at the front to our waitress. Everyone was great with their greetings, etc. Fantastic in that area.
As the name of the chain suggests, the menu - food, drinks - is Caribbean-inspired, so lots and lots of seafood - mostly shrimp and fish - to choose from on the menu. Also, they offer a happy hour menu prior to 6pm daily, which we took FULL advantage of since it was 50% off of drink specials and appetizers. Actually, because it was 50% off appetizers, we ordered 2 of them for good measure!
We ended up getting the following:
Crispy Conch Fritters
Coconut Shrimp
Skirt Steak Churrasco with rice, beans and maduros
Blackened Mahi Tacos
Virgin Ultimate Pina Colada
First, the appetizers. Good. Solid. The Coconut Shrimp were deep fried and even our kids loved it. The Fritters weren't my cup of tea because I've never been a huge conch fan, but still decent.
For the Skirt Steak Churrasco, which we were really looking forward to, the steak was PERFECT. The chimichurri on top of it was the icing on the cake and really added a nice flavorful kick to it. Definitely a winner there. The maduros were nice and soft too. The beans though were a bit on the salty side.
Unfortunately, we couldn't rave the same way about the Blackened Mahi Tacos. Massive disappointment to say the least. We love fish tacos, but this was an absolute disaster. The mahi was overcooked, dry and not very tasty. It didn't matter what sauce it was covered in. Nothing could help it.
As for the Ultimate Pina Colada. Meh. A bit on the watery side for us. It was a nice attempt to add a little bit of pizzaz to the pina colada, but wasn't close to the best we've had.
Overall, our experience was still decent here. The appetizers and Churrasco were a hit, but the Mahi Tacos and Pina Colada were a miss. The restaurant was plenty spacious, which we liked. Not sure if we'll be back, but the menu did have lots else to offer.
