Beachside Restaurant Landing at the Bahia on Mission Bay | Eater San Diego

"A Mission Bay landmark that launched almost 50 years ago, the Bahia Resort Hotel was one of the area’s first commercial properties; founders William and Anne Evans went on to create the family-owned Evans Hotels group. The 313-room hotel is undergoing a revitalization and already offers multiple food and drink venues—including Cafe Bahia, the Tangier Bar, a Pool Bar & Grill, and a grab-and-go cafe housed inside an Airstream trailer—and will add Dockside 1953 alongside its secluded private beach." - Candice Woo

This is a beautiful resort in an excellent location by the bay. The staff are very helpful and courteous. I had a poor experience at a different hotel nearby which I explained to the management team and they made sure I was completely satisfied with my stay and well taken care of. I want to especially recognize Martin and Seth who are part of the management team at the front desk. They were so helpful and compassionate toward my situation. The rest of my stay in San Diego was lovely due to their understanding and patience regarding my situation. I will definitely stay here again. I would recommend the garden view rooms. They are quiet, have easy access to parking in front of the rooms, and are just beautiful.

We stayed at the Bahia for five days with a toddler. This property is an absolute dream for families who are looking to not be surrounded by chaos, but still looking for a refined beach experience. We dined at every restaurant that they have, we enjoy the cabanas by the bay, we rented a paddleboard from action sports on the property, we went for mini walks, we enjoyed the pool and the hot tub, and every single step along the way of service was exceptional, and experience was awesome. As our housekeeper to keep our room tidying, but not flip the room every day for us, and Miriam did a fantastic job. Patrick and Danny ensured our luggage was stored while we waited for our room and Patrick walked us all the way to the door! We stayed in a Bay view room, that had a 180° view of the bay. On the far side of the property, it was quiet, a little bit of a walk to everything, but the walk was beautiful. Highly recommend this property if you have a kiddo, and are looking to spend some quality time together as a family. The staff made everything pretty easy, and we always felt like we were well cared for. If you have small kids, there is a playground on site. There’s also a massive playground just a couple blocks away. Everything is very kid friendly while still maintaining class.

Im going to start my review by shouting out Seth and Vincent. After playing hotel roulette and having to cancel my reservation at The Dana (due to lack of beach) I was thrilled to find out that Bahia did not charge for parking (vs. Our other option of Paradise Point, where we have stayed prior). I wanted to check in early, but realized it was likely going to be awhile, but I was able to check in before noon with not only 0 problems, but exceptional customer service from Seth and Vincent. Our room was upgraded to a massive 1 queen room on the 4th floor with a great view of the bay and the seals. Everyone has been so kind and I cannot remember the last time I was this happy. I am considering extending me stay for a night just because I am so looking forward to being here. We were at the Hilton Bayside for the previous 3 nights and it was garbage compared to Bahia. Thia stay is also encouraging me to make much more weekend trips from Tucson to stay here and just get away. You dont have to make big plans while staying here, you can just relax and hangout at the resort or take a quick walk to Belmont. I am really happy with the last minute decision and the experience so far Thanks Bahia!

Google
This is such a great place! The private beach with chairs and umbrellas available first come, the rescue seals at the entrance and the pool was nice open until 10pm. The kids loved that! Super close to Belmont Park and mission beach and sea world, all minutes away. We stayed in a studio king, the room was amazing! Nicely laid out, black out curtains and a balcony with a beautiful view. We will definitely come back to stay here again!

This is a beautiful property in a truly lovely location. It is right on the water and has two paddle steamers which are brilliant to out on. The dockside restaurant had amazing food of all kinds and Bianchi Italian serve the most amazing pizzas. The staff here are amazing so lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The only negative I would say is that the rooms are dated and the entrance to the rooms a little dirty but we visited just after labor weekend and the summer so they would not of had time to do a lot of cosmetic maintenance. The rooms although dated were very clean and the beds were super comfy. This is a truly lovely property and I would definately stay there again

Google
My family (kids 7 and 12) had a great time here. Some recs/tips: -For those coming from out of town who might be mislead by the price: This is not a luxury resort. It’s a very relaxed spot for families and those who don’t mind being around lots of kids. Some say “dated”, I say “retro charm.” I also say dated. -The pool has a 2.5-ft section which is so useful if you have a toddler or a hesitant swimmer. I was VERY grateful for this. -The wildlife, such as it is: My daughter was obsessed with the rescue seals and the ducklings. -Dockside 1953 is a legitimately good restaurant. The service was well above average and the steak was excellent. Be sure to make a reservation! -The Italian restaurant serves Neapolitan-style pizza, which I know some people aren’t crazy about but my son loves, so it worked for us. Plus I thought the restaurant itself was charming. -The fitness room is bare minimum with a dangerously wobbly bench, though it does have cold wet towels in a little fridge which to me is the height of luxury, so I left happy. -The private bay access with the little cabana sofa things was so nice. And you can rent kayaks right there. It’s summer cozy.

We had a fantastic stay at this resort. The check-in and check-out processes were so easy. We were so pleased with the staff; they were fantastic! Everyone was so kind and patient; they really paid attention to what we were saying and made sure they got it. It's amazing here. We have a bunch of cool spots: sunset views, fireplace meals, morning coffee in a beach cabana right outside our room, and many more!

Google
This resort leaves a lot to be desired. My room had roaches and spiders in it. I took a picture of one of the roaches with my business card next to it so you all can see the size of the thing! They couldn't move me to a different room because they were full so they sent someone to spray. Which just meant that I kept coming back to the room to dead roaches and spiders. The room also smelled disgusting, like mold and dirt. Definitely hasn't been updated in a long time. The carpet was full of stains and just nasty. The grounds are beautiful, and the location is by the beach, which is nice, though the neighborhood has definitely seen better days.

Yelp
Great customer service, great location. My kids love coming here. They can run and play in the sand, dip their toes in the water. Food is great. The new Italian restaurant is amazing. We love coming here. It's perfect for our family

Yelp
This review is of the resort front desk service and amenities. First I have now learned that you need to arrive early for check-ins, otherwise they will give you any room and tell you it's equivalent in pricing to the room you booked. Front desk was very unorganized and not very familiar with their own policies. I reserved a rooms with 3 pet, and was told the pet fee was a flat rate per room. A change in plans, I took two pets one room. And was told at the front desk the pet fee was per pet. The area we reserved was full booked and they only had the public access side available for stays. Our room was full of non-working amenities. The TV didn't work, called Maintenance and was told he would need to remove the TV to fix/repair. The sliding doors did not open properly or fully without fighting with it. We had no complimentary toiletries in our room. It was a complete disaster. The good this is we didn't intend to live in our room. We so enjoyed the water activities, restaurant and air streamer cafe. If management can get bookings and the front desk together this place would shine! The foodvat both on-site restaurants were really delicious and fresh. The water activities and cabanas were so relaxing. Watching the sunset and rise then getting in a beautiful stroll before the world come alive was amazing. Checking out was just as bad as the check-in, I asked for management and didn't get a return call. So maybe hit or miss, for me, a miss. First impressions are everything and final results determines the frequency of repetition.

Yelp
What a great resort! We had a room in the 400 building that directly faced Mission Bay. We had huge windows and a balcony that we really enjoyed. We didn't eat here as we had family to visit with in the area, but were very tempted to sit in the pretty restaurant and relax...next time for sure! If you go, check out their harbor seals...that the resort saved and takes great care of.

Yelp
Fantastic Customer Service! Both on the phone and at the front desk, Martins was personable and extremely helpful in helping us get a great room after our 12 hour delayed arrival to San Diego. We had a nice room overlooking the beachfront, near the restaurant. The resort is lush and beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast outdoors on their covered restaurant patio. Service was excellent. ( good food, a little pricey). We definitely will return!

Yelp
Super cute hotel .. loved the room w the cute beds out by ocean and the whole 1950s tiki vibes .. some super great staff great girl checked us in was super sweet , we had a car accident on way in and a conference the day before we checked in so my car got towed with our luggage . Night girls so professional helped us get phones charged and just know how to work at a front desk . We have both been in same industry extensively.. girl In gift shop also really cool . Sweet staff in the airstream great coffee and pretty delish bagel . Was fun watching the seals w breakfast :) really sweet man driving the cart who gave us a ride as well .. only bad part of whole trip was young kid at front desk who looked bored and like he could not bother to lift a finger to try and help me figure out a way to charge my phone .. didn't look , wasn't friendly , and should not be working in the public . Assistant manager was a tad better mentioned a usb charger outside which made us think we could not charge as we have new iPhones with c chargers .. kinda dismissive and told me to try gift shop which I did and bought a usb to c which helped me to get a ride called to go get my car from bmw San Diego .. anyways again super shout out to girls at night at front desk (so cool) , hotel , air stream , super sweet girl in gift shop .. the young dude in the morning put a real damper on the whole experience .. you have a well trained staff he needs to go back into intensive training , he comes off like someone who doesn't like job . Bahia is cool though thanks

Yelp
This place feels more like a basic hotel than a true resort. There's nothing "resort like" about it, especially the service. A real resort should feel welcoming, kind, and full of life, but the staff here came across as bitter, strict, and motel like. There are plenty of other hotels within walking distance, many at the same or even lower price point, that are much more accommodating. I do staycations often in this area and decided to try this property for the first time during a special weekend, my birthday with my family. Unfortunately, it just didn't deliver and won't be my go to destination in the future.

Yelp
I came here for a wedding which was absolutely beautiful. This review is on the room. We stayed in a room right near the wedding ceremony. When we first walked in the room has a moldy pungent smell so we aired it out and figured the smell would be gone when we came back from the wedding. When we got back to the room the smell was not gone we found bugs all over. We were not in the room long before leaving for the wedding so we didn't notice the bugs. We ended up checking out and we weren't charged for the room. The front desk lady was very kind and handled the situation very well, she also reassured me that these bugs were termites and not bed bugs. I don't think I will be back as the room was $215 a night and it was smelly and bug infested.

Yelp
This was my second stay at Bahia Resort Hotel in a year, and I was happy to return after having a good time previously. However, this visit was a bit of a mixed experience compared to my last stay. I was given a smaller, more basic room this time around even though I was told to have received an "upgrade." While the highlight was the amazing view of Mission Bay, the room itself lacked a microwave and even basic essentials like hand soap - no kitchenette. The shower curtain was bedsheet-like causing water to leak onto the floor, and the pillows were disappointingly thin on a very firm bed. Upon arrival, the room smelled like smoke, though airing it out helped by the second day. Another issue was that people walking along the beach were very close to the window, making me feel a bit uneasy about privacy and security. What made up for these drawbacks was the restaurant, which was just as great as I remembered. Jose, the bartender, was fantastic--he really took care of my group and made our experience there enjoyable. Unfortunately, the airstream was out of food items, and when I ordered coffee, I was given a half-filled cup, which felt a bit disappointing. Expensive! Overall, I would return to Bahia because of its location, but I do think some updates are needed. The decor feels stuck in the early 2000s, and some areas could use refreshing. Last time, I had a larger studio with a couch and more space, which made for a better experience. This visit was just so-so, but hopefully, next time will be an improvement!

Yelp
Gabe, a cook at the resort, went above and beyond when I was lost looking for the sea lions. He took time out of his schedule to escort me there himself. Awesome service, beautiful resort and the cutest sea lions.

Yelp
I'll say this. The staff tried to make this go as good as possible but then dropped the ball. We had 2 queen 600 sq ft reservation. But, it smelled like cat piss. So they put us in a king beach room but was just too small for 4 of us. 2 adults and 2 kids. So they found a marina king with a sofa bed. This was all great til I got stabbed in the toe when checking the balcony. This just bad remodeling or something but it's exposed and obviously sharp and it's the full strip of carpet where balcony door slides. This where it gets wild. I call to report it and I'm assuming they just crazy busy because i was just told thank you for letting us know and hung up. So I go to the lobby. Tell the guy again and that I need Neosporin or something and was told at first we don't have that here can buy something at the store. Which ok fine but I guess one the other confront desk staff heard the exchange and tells him security will have bandaids and antibiotic cream for him. Great all I needed I guess. But just crazy odd that nothing else. Had to go get treated just in case but man was very disappointing how nothing when injured due to their lack of proper carpeting.

Yelp
I was in San Diego and stayed at this wonderful resort and had a room with the Bay View. It was one of the most relaxing places I have stayed at in a long time. The resort staff is very friendly, professional and accommodating. The resort has a few restaurants on the property, a gift store, room service and is a close distance to Little Italy/Downtown, Old Town and the airport. I definitely will be staying here again the next time I am in San Diego.

Yelp
5 stars to our check in . Thanks to Benjamin at front desk. He is a true gem. Made the whole process welcoming, accommodating and professional.

Yelp
I am reviewing this from the view of this place being a 3-star resort. We had a work conference here for ~50 employees and was overall quite satisfied with the resort. - staff are kind - resort is very close to the beach - parking is very easy - they have a coffee stand in the front that has pretty good cold brews for $7 - WiFi was fast and consistent (critical for business) - pool is easy access - gym is a bare minimum but enough to do a few exercises - conference rooms are large and comfortable (can be temperature adjusted) - food was decent overall; a bit lacking on breakfast options with proteins, but I enjoyed their lunches and meats The rooms were a bit smelly given the weather and being on a low floor, and extremely dark. The safe did not work, and my bed lighting was broken for a few days, but the A/C and heat worked well. The rooms are definitely quite outdated with the carpet, but the bathroom water pressure and cleanliness was good. For a 3* resort, it felt adequate, as long as your expectations are set that way. Overall, I'd be open to staying here again based on the service and location. Not my first choice for resort food and rooms, but they were satisfactory for the price. The staff stood out and were excellent, and their large conference halls made it a good business choice.

Yelp
We feel so lucky and grateful that we got to work with Vida for our wedding at the Bahia. From the very beginning, she was responsive, kind, and so easy to talk to. Month after month, I was in contact with Vida while planning our big day, and she always got back to me quickly, went above and beyond to bring our vision to life, and made us feel so cared for throughout the entire process. Vida is the Catering Services Manager, but she was so much more than that when it came to our wedding. She was genuinely invested in every detail, always making sure everything we envisioned was possible and came to life exactly how we dreamed of it. Her dedication, kindness, and professionalism truly set her apart; she never made me feel like a bother, no matter how many questions I had, and she always looked out for us. Getting married at the Bahia truly was our dream wedding come to life.  Our day was absolutely perfect... the venue was stunning, the food was delicious, and every staff member we encountered was friendly and professional. The prices were reasonable, and we never felt pressured to spend more than we were comfortable with. They were understanding of our budget and helped make everything work beautifully. We got married in the Tropical Garden and had our reception on the beach, it was beyond magical! Everything came together so perfectly that now I understand why people say it's the most special day of your life. I truly believe a huge part of that is thanks to Vida. We couldn't have asked for a better experience or a better person to guide us through it all.  Thank you to Vida and the Bahia Team!! Xoxox

Yelp
My input sent to management Just wanted to reach out regarding my stay at Bahia Resort from Thursday, April 17 - Sunday, April 20. We had planned this trip with some family friends. Last minute, my family wanted to leave a day sooner to stop and see some family along the way. I checked online and you had my room type available so I called to add one more night to my reservation. The lady on the phone was so nice and added the night to my reservation and told me it would be $500 for that night. I asked why it was so expensive when I was paying about $300 per night for a weekend. She told me it was because it was the last room of that type available. I told her to not add that night because I'm not paying $500. My family was bummed but it was fine. I kept an eye on that room and it never sold. Mind boggling that your resort would rather this room sit empty than accommodate me and add it to my reservation. Neither family had been to your resort but we were so excited after viewing the website and all that you had to offer. Oh man were we disappointed. Your website versus reality is not the same. While your resort is really beautiful, it falls short in most areas. The one thing our kids were most excited for was playing on the resort beach and paddle boarding in the bay like the website pictures show. Reality is that the resort beach is unkept and the bay is stagnant. I did a quick Google search and it's not recommended to swim in Mission bay! Your resort is charming but seems to need some updating and changes. We were so excited that you offered a suite for the extra space since traveling with friends and we like to get together to play games together. Upon arrive to our room, we were hit with a smell. I opened both doors to let the room air out. Everything in our room had seen better days and never felt clean. Both doors stayed open while we were at the resort but I just couldn't get rid of the stuffiness and smell. Our second to last day we were there, I found a door hanger on our door that read "pet in-room". That was the smell!!! Dog slobber! I was very angry when I connected the dots because nowhere on my reservation did it state that I was booking a pet friendly room. If I knew this, I never would have booked this room! It's unfortunate that it felt so dirty that we wanted to be anywhere but our room. Bahia's location is great being a short walk to a few nearby businesses. We did wish your resort had a family friendly restaurant whether it be sit down or grab and go. We were hoping to relax during our stay but found ourselves offsite more than onsite due to lack of dining options and things to do. In conclusion, we had high hopes for Bahia but left disappointed. I hope you take my feedback into consideration to better your resort. It can be amazing and I think maybe it once was. Management reached out with a complimentary two night stay. Not sure why they think I would want to go back!

Yelp
Love this resort! We were so happy to find this place! We found Bahia Resort because we were looking for a special place to celebrate a "double bday and anniversary" celebration! We wanted to choose a fancy but also affordable hotel experience. Bahia Resort Hotel looked like a good option because of the rooms right on the waterfront. The view exceeded our expectations. It was so tranquil, inspiring, and nice to be right on the water. The view of the water when you wake up in the morning is really something special. We enjoyed the pool, the hot tub, the little walking area, and even the cruise boat attached to the hotel (extra fee). We had a nice night at the restaurant celebrating all the things and we really enjoyed the beach walk attached to the hotel. The price point was great at Bahia Resort Hotel - it felt like a "you get what you pay for" kinda thing. Upscale vibe but also the right price. There was a misunderstanding with the specific room I purchased and the room they gave us but they still found a room for us so that was good! The parking was very easy - a spot right outside our room. The only thing I will say is that they advertise a "35 person hot tub" and when you do get there, it's kinda like a giant "baby pool" considering there were so many kids in it and it was warm and not hot. That was a little disappointing. It seemed overhyped with marketing on their website but I won't take away from the 5 star review... just something to note. We would absolutely stay here again in the future either way. Thanks Bahia Resort Hotel!

Andrea J.

Yelp
My friend and I were there for Thanksgiving buffet. It was awful! Where do I start? ALL sides and meat were cold. Green beans weren't cooked...not even al dente. Stuffing was slimy and cold. Mashed potatoes were cold. Risotto was cold and flavorless. Brussels sprouts were burned and cold. All the meats were cold. No heat lamps. No turkey dark meat. Beef brisket was so fatty. I wanted coffee with my dessert and I was told it would be an extra charge after I paid over $100 per person. No pumpkin pie, no cranberry sauce. No hot rolls, just stale bread. What was good. Shrimp and wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon. I love blue cheese and there was a bowl of extra blue. The gravy was hot! Waiter was fine. I gave him a tip but I noticed no one else did! I looked at the website again and there was no mention that tip was included. Did others see something I didn't? I will NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. I have already told all my friends not to go there too. One friend went to an expensive Thanksgiving dinner in Rancho Santa Fe and RAVED ABOUT IT! I will go there next year.

Richard V.

Yelp
We used to have Thanksgiving dinner here before Covid and finally went back today. The food quality has gone downhill. My favorite thing about Thanksgiving dinner is the stuffing, and it was not good at all. My son said it was "slimy," and I had to agree. They also had a sweet potato casserole with sweet potatoes crunchier than many apples I've eaten. I will say that the ballroom was beautiful and the service was amazing. The desserts were also quite lovely. But not sure it was worth the price.

Yalisa I.

Yelp
Today I was not happy with my experience inside the gift shop. The grown lady with curly hair was no help at all. Attitude was on 1000%. Definitely will not be coming back. She needs extra extra training and needs a better spirit.

Yelp
I came here for a family reunion that was held in one of their conference rooms. The hotel provided the food for lunch which included a healthy buffet style share of fish, salad, chicken, and white macadamia nut cookies as a dessert. A separate mini fridge of sodas was available but once it ran out that was it. The conference room fit around 80 people. There was a dance floor that doubled as a venue where speakers presented and for actual performances. The hotel property itself is pretty organized. Parking is available on site or toward the bay next to the hotel which has more than available parking. The fact the bay is next to this property makes this place a hot spot. On the second day of our family event we hung out on the bay and I was able to loop around the property on a mini e-bike with permission from security who did not seem to mind. Overall, a good experience.

Yelp
Our family spent the weekend at the Bahia. We had two suites. The amenities were fabulous. We played pickleball and relaxed on the private beach. It was so nice having umbrellas, chairs, and towels provided at the pool and the beach. The location is absolutely perfect for walking to the ocean and Mission Bay. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the kitchenette was truly an added bonus. Beds were very comfortable . We would highly recommend this hotel. Worth every dollar.

Yelp
Went there again for this year's TRS Harvest Ball ( Only to help a friend out who wanted the experience ) -much different experience not having to go in a wheelchair - might be a good place for my Autism gala and awards ceremony when i host it in the future

Yelp
We have been to this location 5 or more times always has been our favorite spot due to cleanliness, great staff, and location. We have recommended this location to many of our friends and family. Our last visit in August was HORRIBLE! Room smelled, The staff up front were not helpful at all if anything RUDE . The maintenance man was so kind and so compassionate!! I asked to speak to a manager, young lady informed me no managers were on staff that evening. I called left a message with no response ever. We ended up coming back home that night ending our little getaway short! Worst service ever!

Yelp
We stayed at the Bahia last year for Labor Day. Upon entering the room we were greeted by the strongest smell of animal urine. The manager was super friendly and offered us 2 nights stay to make up for the issues we had. We checked in during this redo stay and the room does not smell, however, the rooms are just not clean. There is large stains on the carpet and the couch, the rooms are in desperate need of remodeling. Every room here is pet friendly which is just gross. We had a 2 bedroom suite. The AC is in the living room farthest from the bedroom. The bedroom had no fans no ventilation nothing. It was 85 degrees at least in the bedroom. I asked for a fan and was told by the front desk " go to Ralph's and buy one we don't have everything you need" not friendly. We also had 2 large cockroaches found climbing out from under our bed. The grounds and location is beautiful. The rooms are just in desperate need of a makeover!

Meredith K.

Yelp
I got married at the Bahia Resort Hotel and it was absolutely perfect! Rachel Lewis was the event coordinator and she did a fantastic job and made the whole process so easy. The resort is beautiful and everyone who works there is kind, professional and enthusiastic. It was the wedding of my dreams and all of my guests loved the resort. The sternwheeler is also phenomenal. Thank you so much to the Bahia for giving me the perfect wedding!!

Anna S.

Yelp
My husband and I attended an event and booked using a group code. On the day we were supposed to arrive, a friend called me to inform me that my reservation would be canceled and I would be charged a "no show" fee for not arriving the previous day. I called the front desk to sort out the issue and was given a list of tasks I had to do to "fix" the problem. I was getting overwhelmed with everything and so I interrupted the front desk person (Christopher) to clarify the steps. He then responded, "I am not done speaking." Mind you, I had an email from the hotel confirming my correct date of arrival. The customer service at this hotel needs huge improvement. They were snobbish and ill-mannered. Not going back.

Yelp
We did a lot of research to find a good resort in San Diego. And are very happy with our experience at the Bahia. The staff was amazing, very friendly, and helpful. We really, really loved the resort setting with the layout and the opportunity to explore places like gazebos where the yoga classes were held, the sweet little tropical fountain area where ducks would wander in and out, a playground, and Ben the pool and tennis court areas. One negative is - The pool area did seem a little small considering the size of the resort. Of course, most people probably took advantage of the bay and the oceans which are all around the area. The location is great. Not far from lots of things to do and restaurants to eat. We took advantage of the bike rentals, and next time we will rent the fun little Surrey! We stayed in a studio, which was very nice, on the ground floor and on the side facing another side of the bay. We were amused by the groups that set up tents and barbecues from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m.. I guess it's prime real estate for picnics. We also were able to take advantage of the fireworks from SeaWorld, which was across the bay!

Room 212 should not be used. There is a strong small of mildew inside . There was dark mold growing on the carpet and on the bathroom wall.

Yelp
Disappointing stay. We stayed at the Bahia for an event. We were impressed by the location when we first arrived having their own private beach and views of the bay all around. The room itself was okay but extremely noisy early in the morning making it impossible to get a good sleep. We then learned our room was close to some type of maintenance closet - something not disclosed to us when we checked in. I was surprised to see an upgrade fee of $50 and was told it was because I requested two beds. I felt this was unfair since three of our friends in separate rooms also had 2 beds but were not charged extra. When we brought this up to the staff, the offered no resolution. The Dockside restaurant had beautiful views. They recommended chilaquiles for brunch - they did not mention it was spicy. When I mentioned this to the server he was also surprised and went on to say "what do you want me to do?" Not the kind of service you expect. He did bring extra chips and potatoes but the service left a bad impression. Overall, I would not stay here again. There are better options with more transparent pricing and friendlier service. We stayed at the Bahia for an event but I wouldn't return on my accord.

Yelp
I love San Diego, so this already going to be a winning trip for me. We arrived at the resort at 3:00AM in the wee hours, and I was afraid we'd have to wait until 4:30AM to get to our room (check-in opens then), but we called the number posted out front and Brian the security guard came right out and made us feel like it was 3:00 in the afternoon! Thank you! We requested a double room near the tennis courts. This was important because I was playing in a USTA tourney this weekend and needed a place to practice. The kicker was a few of my friends needed to practice too. I truly appreciate the kindness of the Bahia staff for making them feel welcome. We won our match too! This was a stress-free vacation for me because everyone at the resort was geniunely kind, including everyone in the restaurant overlooking the Bay (so peaceful and pretty!). My teen son enjoyed the pool (jacuzzi stays packed with very young kids, so Bahia may need to institute an age minimum for that). I loved walking on the private beach with my chai latte from the silver bus. It was not noisy at night. The resort was full, but it seems most people arrive with small children and they don't hang out making noise. The shower can be heard downstairs (from the upper rooms), but it was too much of a distraction My husband loved the extra large room TV and high speed WIFI. There you have it. For the price point, we were very happy with our stay and do plan to return. Hugs!

Yelp
Great place! Room was nice right on the water. Staff is friendly. Only one pool on the property but it has a huge jacuzzi. I'd love to come back soon.

Yelp
We stayed at Bahia Resort Hotel for 2 nights, and it was a very disappointing experience--especially as a mom traveling with a toddler and a newborn. The room was not clean at all. There were pubic hairs on the bathroom floor, and long hairs on the bedsheets, which made the entire space feel unhygienic and uncomfortable. I expected much higher standards from a resort of this caliber, especially when traveling with small children. On top of that, the check-in process was delayed--we had to wait 45 minutes past the check-in time because the hotel was apparently fully booked and looked understaffed. With two young children, that wait was incredibly frustrating. What made it worse was the lack of care from the hotel staff. I called to report the issues after we checked out, and I was told they couldn't do anything because we had already left. There was no sensitivity at all to the fact that I was traveling with two young kids. As a mom, you do your best in the moment to accommodate your family's needs, which is why I waited to call until things settled down. Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness, poor service, and dismissive attitude from staff make it very hard to recommend this hotel--especially for families.

Yelp
Talk about a disappointment, I booked my wifes 40th birthday to take her on a vacation for the weekend. We arrived in the evening and soon as we got into the room we had a visitor in the kitchen, we were disgusted. We talked to the front desk and they moved us to another room. We found another baby cockroach in the bathroom! We decided there was no way we could stay at the hotel. We were stuck scrambling to find a hotel with occupancy. Way to ruin a 40th birthday weekend!

Yelp
We were greeted by the wonderful Michelle at the front desk. She set the tone of what to expect at the Bahia Resort by being kind, helpful and welcoming! The resort itself was beautiful. If there was one interaction I can change, it was the staff at the coffee Airstream in front of the resort. They overcharged for our drinks and claimed the equipment wasn't working to make food. Just to hear them tell a guest after they are no longer making food because they were closing soon. They made it feel like we were an inconvenience. The view of the harbor, the lush green landscaped paths, and the beautiful pool was amazing. Overall, I would highly recommend staying at this resort to any friend or family member.

Yelp
We love staying here. Every time we come, we have such a fabulous experience. All staff being encounter isvery very friendly. Rooms are older, but kept very clean. We've stayed here at least a dozen times and it never gets old.

Yelp
My wife and I spend a week here for the past 6 years... only missing 2020 because of pandemic.. wouldn't stay anywhere else in SD. Love the private beach, the short walk to Mission Beach, the neighborhood. Or room is always nice and clean... and the view is awesome. We will be there in September again this year and I can't wait

Yelp
Great location, disgusting rooms. Upon check in I notified front desk our room smelled bad. This resort allows pets, and the urine smell was ever present in the building/our room. They said they'd take care of it but could not move us. We were out of our room for an hour that night and went back to room at 10:30pm -Still smelled. Next morning even worse and asked to be moved once again. Later that day we were finally moved to another room. Still smelled- now like mildew (carpets were wet as AC unit was leaking ) but a bit better than urine. The grounds and area are deceiving because it's beautiful, but the rooms need major updates. So disappointing for the cost.

Yelp
The location of the hotel is good for the Mission Bay area. The grounds needs to be kept cleaner, especially the lobby/game room. One big plus is the hotel has its own private beach/sandy area w ample chairs and cabanas. But - there is no server to help take your orders and there is no upkeep of the area. We were there for a few hours and did not see any staff walk by or even cleaned or tidied the area. Here is my complaint and where I am very unhappy. I have stayed at many 4-5 star resorts ranging from Hyatt, Hilton, IHG and Four Seasons. For the price that I paid Queen Suite, the suite did not have a view of the bay. There is no central AC in the room. It was only ONE SINGLE wall unit for the living room area...there was no AC in the bedroom!!! That is totally not acceptable. It was miserable for me and my 6 year old. The bedroom was stuffy and gross. We felt like we lacked oxygen/air the whole night. The room needs updating badly...everything is outdated. And every time I tried calling the front desk, housekeeping or room service there was a busy signal!!! This was all day long even up until now as I write this review at 12:12 am in my room. Besides housekeeping I did not really see staff on property grounds -- so no help at all on answering my questions.

Yelp
Beautiful Resort! Very Well kept from the clean grounds to the clean rooms and everything in-between!! Every staff member you encounter is friendly with a smile, and I am totally not exaggerating!! From the manager down to their latest new hire, they were very happy to assist in any way!! Rebooked for one night and decided to stay for a second and they were very accommodating! Definitely plan to stay there again, we visit San Diego about once a year and have stayed many places, but this Will definitely be a repeat!!

Yelp
Stayed here for the first time last night and absolutely enjoyed everything from friendly, helpful staff to all the many amenities this hotels offers. The rooms and overall ambiance made me feel like I was back in Hawaii which I've been several times. I will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I can't say that our stay here was good. The rooms are dirty and extremely dated. In addition, our room in particular (a bay front suite) had a fire hazard. We didn't notice it the first night because we stayed for a wedding but it was somewhat alarming to see her outlet the next morning .. there had clearly been a fire or something in the outlet that was not addressed. Our sink was also plugged up which was disgusting and our microwave had mold on it . I did inform the front desk at checkout and they comped the resort fee but really the room was not worth even half of what we paid. I will say the service around the resort was excellent.

Yelp
Our 13th stay at The Bahia, our boy Seth, stepped up big to make it an awesome stay! Go to t Bahia and be sure to ask for Seth! Karen and Celeste from the Dockside Restaurant took great care of us!

Yelp
This is THE most relaxing vacation spot in San Diego! We have stayed here twice coming down from OC, and loved every minute of it. The water is perfectly still in the Bay and Belmont Park Boardwalk with actual rides and amazing food 2 minutes away? WOW. A waterfront resort in the middle of it all, but yet tucked away for quiet nights dipping toes in the Bay. Sea World is 5 minutes away driving, the Boardwalk is 7 minutes walking and you have the absolute best of San Diego at your fingertips. Bahia is our go-to every early summer, and every year it gets better. The staff is professional and experts in their field. The rooms are cozy and yet deliver maximum views of either the serene tropical gardens and/or Mission Bay. The resort has it all. I highly recommend a ride on the Bahia Belle! An actual sternwheeler that cruises the Bay, or take a walk around the resort to see some ducks and rescue seals. This resort has all the luxury of a 5 star resort, and yet the charm and heart of San Diego. We can't wait to go back, El Jefe's tacos are delicious at Belmont Park (highly recommend) and there is a cute sushi place literally at the corner of Bahia. If you want a slow paced, waterfront get away that has it all? Let Bahia take care of you.

Yelp
For all the amenities, it's high up there. Came into town for a tournament at UCSD and this was "close to the tournament" with Belmont Park, Mission Bay and lots of food in walking distance. Every time we went to the beach/bay front, we easily found a cabana or seating for me and the kiddos. The bay, itself, was kinda nasty (it's a bay ofc) as it accumulated oil/leaves and such along the beach/sand. Thankful that my son likes the sand more than water! So he was so happy to play in the sand :) Their pool was fantastic. Jacuzzi was HUGE. Pool was pretty warm, considering. Wish we spent more time there! There was a bar and easily accessible towels (as much as we wanted, too). Walked around and found a park WITH PLAYGROUND on property. My son was dying to go but, being from Vegas -- we gonna stick to playing by water! We had a room at the building at the end of resort. Room was good enough for 3 adults, 2 young adults, teen and toddler. 2 queen beds and pull out bed was perfect fit. Small kitchen with fridge was great for the leftovers. Balcony had a table and chairs so, we'd eat bfast or dinner out there. Our floor had a coin washer and dryer. $2 in quarters for washer and $1 for dryer. While staying, we ate to-go at their restaurant (Dockside) and food was ok. One of my to-go meals took so long that the bartenders, gave me a free shot as I waited. Overall happy with our stay. Would love to come back!

Yelp
This place is absolutely disgusting. The closet reeks of urine. There are chips in the couch , there no where to put your toiletries, it's old. The carpet is absolutely filthy. I'm afraid that I'm going to get hepatitis from being in here. No extra pillows. They have us 3 pillows for 4 persons. The pillows are very flat so only 1 person gets to be comfortable, not enough towels,no extra blankets, no extra shower mat , only one mat for 4 people, the fridge is leaking, got wet all our food. Wanted to add another problem to the list, there are people from outside that come to the bay that's part of the Bahia resort. They don't have a room , just random people. They take over canopies and we have to seat in the sand on towel. We are the ones paying for the room and we should be able to use the canopies.

Yelp
Stayed here for the week after the Labor Day holiday. Well first off it looks nicer and more appealing online. My room and my girlfriends both had a musty smell. The staff were very friendly so that was nice. Our rooms were about a 5 minute walk from the front office, not appealing as we arrived to the resort late at night and had to walk that distance. Although we enjoyed our Bayfront rooms I disliked that people loitered around all night, felt a bit uneasy and unsafe. I wouldn't recommend this resort.

Yelp
A little outdated but right next to the water! They have activities, swimming pool, tennis court, little kid park which was right outside our room! My kids loved it. They is also a big park across the street and the boardwalk was a short walk away. I would definitely recommend and will come back.
