This restaurant has been on our list for a long time. We love places that have been around forever. The location is great, the bay views are amazing. We went off season, for a late lunch, were seated immediately, our waitress was friendly and attentive.
There’s a lunch menu, and a regular menu. We ordered from both, lots of selections, pricey.
The restaurant has a long history (since 1917!) and one can walk around and see artifacts and other displays. There’s a gift shop. One can seat in the large dining areas, or outside, or at the bar. Accessible. Parking can be challenging.
Now… the food is just… okay. It’s obvious they’ve been making these dishes for a long time and it shows. Everything was very bland, needing salt and spices. While the food arrived fast and hot, the biscuits could have used more time in the oven, and the calamari could have been crunchier (it was a bit soft). A $25 half lobster roll with cup of soup was disappointing, with the Manhattan clam chowder full of potatoes and no clams and the lobster roll had a small piece of lobster sitting on top - and shredded lobster salad making up for most of the “lobster. The potato pancakes were good looking,”but heavy and dense, and needed salt and taste. The fish and chips, while large pieces of fish, were just … okay.
One delicious item were the chips that came with the lobster roll. I expected bagged chips, but these were hand cut, thin, crispy and delicious! So was the drink we ordered, a tropical punch. So good.
Go for the atmosphere and to cross an old fashioned restaurant off your list. Share an appetizer and a drink! Save the seafood orders for another place.
