The 14 Best Asian Restaurants Where Bellevue Meets Redmond | Eater Seattle

"This local chain may have slipped downhill a bit since its heyday as a hangout for the Thai Airways flight crews that came through Sea-Tac Airport in the ‘90s, but it was atop a high hill; that is to say, the quality remains good, all things considered. The branch in Redmond saves aficionados the travel to Tukwila for noteworthy dishes like gai hor bai toey (pandan-wrapped chicken) and hor mok (salmon and red curry steamed in a banana leaf)." - Jay Friedman

Visited Bai Tong in Issaquah Highlands with a large group, and the experience overall was excellent. There’s plenty of parking available, which was appreciated given how packed some restaurants get. That said, the road setup in the Highlands can be a bit confusing with all the one-way streets. The interior of the restaurant was stunning. It was modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed, even down to the bathrooms. It’s clear that attention was paid to every visual detail. The space is also efficiently arranged for both small and large parties. One small downside was the AC, which made it colder than expected indoors. I did notice the “okay” food safety rating, which raised a slight concern, but it didn’t match the quality of the meal. The crab fried rice was absolutely delicious. It is one of the best I’ve had. This spot is worth revisiting just for that dish. JY review

Google
This was only place that has short wait for Saturday night. Not in the picture, pad Thai was sweet and flavor was off. I cannot point out what is off about the sauce. Penang chicken look like red curry, not red curry, different ingredients in red curry. Steak entree, visual looked good, needs more flavors, it needed spicy Thai sauce. The meat was cook medium well, we used butter knife trying to cut meat into smaller piece. The meat did not cut like a butter. We also ordered Tom yum, it was on the sweet side, should be more sour. The satay and fish cake were good. Those are the only two dishes that we enjoyed. The service was okay. I ate here before and the foods were better.

Nice Thai restaurant. Always can feed cravings of the Asian taste

Google
Great taste and quick service. Keeps up with standards of Bai Tong. Good vegetarian options. Staff were accommodating with dietary restrictions and also shared portion size info so that we could order as needed. Reservations recommended for weekends. Decent parking outside.

Google
Bai Tong has lost its authenticity since COVID hit! I regret every time I order food and come back thinking this time it would be better! Fried rice made with frozen vegetables is not restaurant standards! If you cannot cut your own vegetables then it means there is no authentic folks behind the stoves! Chef’s special should be the star items but this Chef’s noodles has seen far better days! I’m going to stop coming here for sure! Two thumbs down!

Google
We ordered jungle curry and pad Thai to go. The food was awful. Jungle curry ( Kang Pa) was not curry/thick at all. It was like a soup. Pad Thai was very dry. Very disappointed to come home hungry and open the food that is not edible, which went to trash. We had to order dinner again!

Google
Good food. Decent ambiance. Spice level 5 is not smoking hot it is decent level. Good thing is it is not adding chilly on the top. Panang Curry was bit sweet. Fresh rolls were very crisp and good tasting.. Woman restroom could be bit more cleaner.

Google
I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant. This was by far the worst Thai food I’ve had in Seattle. I like to travel to Seattle from time to time, and was left very disappointed in the taste of the food. The green curry was very sugary with a syrup after taste, which is not what I’m looking for in a curry. My pad Thai and Mas-sa-mun curry tasted like ketchup. Authentic Thai cuisine should not be cooked with ketchup. There was also a lack of customer service, which ruined the overall experience of dining in Bai Tong Thai restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour and had a lovely experience! This location may be my favorite Bai Tong. Redmond is also nice, but we felt that this one is unique from the traditional seating option to the design of the bar area. Our food was delicious as usual. The happy hour deal is fabulous- this was our first time doing HH and we will be back! Service was quick and the staff is very attentive. We appreciated how polite they were as well.

Yelp
This location is just as lovely as the rest! So many people I know are obsessed with the spicy garlic chicken, but I personally love their curries. They have many vegetarian and gluten free options on their menu, all clearly marked. They are also flexible with removing an ingredient if you have an allergy. Ex. the pork spring rolls are easy to change out for tofu or shrimp. The place is spacious and calm. It has a great atmosphere for a casual lunch meeting and also is very good with takeout. I love how large the portions are, even though it's a bummer that you have to pay for rice. I have gotten the fried rice to go before and you get a TON of it. This is one of my fave thai places and I feel that it is consistent from location to location! Always a good go to.

Yelp
I had forgotten how good Bai Tong was after my daughter moved out of Issaquah. Happened to be there and got takeout - Spring Rolls and Fried Wontons to eat in the car driving back to Seattle - so good! Then Tod Mun, which I love and can't always get at other Thai restaurants. Just delicious! Finally Green curry with tofu, nicely spicy and really good. Wish there was one closer to downtown!

Yelp
Pretty good thai food and the service was very fast. The food came out pretty fast and hot! The atmosphere was nice with lots of seating and comfortable booth seating as well.

Yelp
Their Panang Curry is great. They've always been a great go to when I don't want to cook. I'd recommend to anyone!

Yelp
Had dinner at Bai Tong in Issaquah Highlands with a big group, and I left impressed. Parking was easy with a large lot, although navigating through the Highlands with its maze of one-way streets took a bit of patience. The restaurant itself is beautifully done. It has sleek tables, well-designed walls, and even the bathrooms had a polished feel. We were seated quickly and the layout handled our group size well. It did feel a bit chilly because of the strong air conditioning, so bring a layer just in case. I did notice the "okay" food safety score posted, which gave me pause, but honestly, the food itself felt like it was handled well. Their crab fried rice was the highlight of the meal. It loaded with flavor and cooked just right. The vibe was modern and inviting without being too noisy or crowded. Overall, solid food and great ambiance despite a few small quirks. JY review

Yelp
Different kind of Thai restaurant. An elegant quality to it and the staff was super supportive. We had movie tickets and trying to get dinner beforehand. They got us our food faster than the drinks came.. Tasty curry and conversational staff. The drinks were good as well. Had the spicy thai tea.

Jeffrey E.

Yelp
Truly great fresh rolls. Better than a burger; better than a sandwich. Always add a large order of the excellent peanut sauce.

Yelp
I've ordered take out from here multiple times and am always very happy with it. Their fried trout curry is incredible, but you can't really miss with any of their curries. Note: Level 2 spicy is only mildly spicy, so Level 3 is probably what you want to order if you want a standard/not too spicy spicy (like what your typical American can handle). Note: Costco has $100 gift certificates for Bai Tong that are like $80 or so regularly. Great deal!

Yelp
Since moving to Issaquah ten years ago, Bai Tong has been a staple in my family's favourite restaurant rotation. We love the taste of their food, the speedy service, and the kindness of the waitstaff. Unfortunately in recent years, we've noticed some significant negative changes in the food. Our go-to entree is the Shrimp in Panang Curry and the number of shrimp that comes in the dish has definitely been reduced. During our most recent visit, we counted only six shrimp in our dish which feels inadequate considering the price of the dish. My mom also complained that in the Crispy Garlic Chicken, there are a lot of pieces of fried batter with absolutely no chicken in them. I'm still obsessed with their Bangkok sodas and in my recent visit I adored the Strawberry Vodka mule on their menu. My dad tried the Watermelon Bangkok soda and loved how refreshing it tasted. My family loves Bai Tong and will continue to come here when we're craving Thai food, I just hope their dishes improve.

Yelp
Stopped in for HH (3pm-5pm M/F) We ordered PadThai (very sweet) garlic crispy chicken (4/5), spring rolls (3+/5) served with peanut sauce, the peanut sauce was very tasty Service was attentive & courteous. Portion size for a HH was pretty good. I will definitely return.

Yelp
So, as I've shared before I will give a place three tries before I review them if they are willing to hear my critiques in person! Well, we have now been there three times, and each time it has been better than the last! The ambience of this place is amazing. It is a mixture of fine dining with a nod to an authentic Thai dining experience. The bathrooms are just a unique and beautiful as the rest of the restaurant. Twice we sat in the lounge area, and this last time we sat at the more traditional areas, where we removed our shoes and sat in a more reclined position. When you first walk in the door you are greeted with beautiful smiling faces, that make yous feel welcome! The service was great! Tony was our server this last time, and he was very friendly, taking pictures of us since it was our anniversary, and even offered to bring us a free dessert! Sadly, we had to decline as neither of us can eat sugar! The other times when we ate in the lounge, our servers were so nice and helpful! I mentioned my food sensitivities and they went above and beyond to make sure my dining experience was good! Now, the food!! Amazing! Rarely have I ever given five stars because that would mean there is no room for improvement. However, if it was possible to give 4.5 I would, because this food has been amazing!! Additionally, the prices are great, the portions are wonderful, and you can also go at happy hour 3-5, and the prices are even better! Lastly, you can go to Costco and get $100 worth of gift cards for $75! That's a deal! Try them out! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Dinner | $20-30 The food is pretty good but the service is horrible and I've ordered take out and eaten in more than 10 times . Service is just head shaking they are always rude elitist and unapologetic it's odd . They are often out of things and the bat staff is young and not equipped. I've seen the hostess staff be rude to others . Food is not nearly as good as it was a few years back . I'll find a new place
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
Food is still great but service has been horrible when eating in and for take out. My husband won't go there anymore because they got angry when he didn't want to give them all of his cash back after paying for takeout. (Just threw the money down on table and walked away)
google avatar

Stesslo S.

Yelp
So good I wnt back a second time. Tried the Panamg Curry and Fried crab wantons. Was not disappointed. I thought the crab wantons were perhaps 20 seconds over done but not burnt or off putting in any way.

Yelp
Quite a surprise from the norm of Thai restaurants. Great menu, beautifully prepared, tasted great. Revisiting Thai fare was a treat here.
google avatar

Carolina A.

Yelp
I like the bar area and decor. Their food is solid but to be honest, must thai restaurants in the greater Seattle area are pretty good, we are very lucky. This Bai Tong location has plenty of parking and it is big. Service is good. Might not be my top thai resturant but it is solid, so if you are in the area and considering going, do!

Yelp
Dining in: Great Take out: Sucks Almost every single time my family has ordered take out an item is missing, which is really disappointing and frustrating. When we eat at the restraunt the food and service are amazing and the interior is very nicely decorated. Don't get take out but otherwise would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Amazing Thai food here with several dishes not found anywhere else, setting themselves apart. The atmosphere has a chic vibe and a good place to meet with family or friends or both. Recommend starting off with some of their signature cocktails and the veggie wrap. Good way to relax while you savor the menu. The restaurant is divided into two sections. The bar area has plenty of tables for two or four people and is the "adult" section. The family area in front is nice as well and there are two large family tables that seat you on cushions and you have to leave your shoes on the step. Kinda neat cross cultural experience at home. My favorite dish was the trout salad
google avatar

Pradeep S.

Yelp
Worth trying the crispy trout curry. Of course another my favorite is vegetable deluxe with brown rice.

Yelp
I don't understand service people! Rudeness=NEVER coming back. The food and the drinks were absolutely wonderful and I wish I could give five stars... But this rating clearly has to do with the customer service we received from the manager Marie We went with some friends last night for dinner to have a great evening. Our friends have a little four-year-old boy. We were seated at a great table that had tons of pillows, and my friends were actually sitting on the side with the cushion. Now let me first go on to say, four year-old have energy, they laugh, sometimes they rambunctious! with my friends little boy did have lotta energy, but he also had his iPad. Our server was absolutely wonderful. Took our drink and appetizer and we were sitting there laughing having fun with our friends. Our friends four year old decided that he actually wanted to go to the table and walks on the cushions over to that other table and sit with the pillows. The Marie went over and SCOLDED my friends four year old, and here's where I have the big problem... She had also said that she felt a little boy shoes were dirty and didn't want them dirty up the cushions. First of all if she had a problem, she needed to talk TO THE PARENTS not the four year old... That was not her place and had that been my child. I would've had words with her!! My friends pulled the little boy back and then we heard Marie say to a server "please clean the cushion from his shoes". . my friends little boys shoes were not dirty and made no mark on cushion... So that was strike number 1. We were sitting at our table eating our appetizers and drinking our drinks and Marie came over and said to us are " are you guys done with this table? We need the table". . We all looked at her & my friends wife said "what are you talking about". . I looked at her I said " ma'am we've been here 30 minutes and we haven't even had our dinner.". She looked dumbfounded and said " oh you haven't had your dinner... ??? ". She walks away and then comes back and says " oh I'm so sorry. I mistook you with another table". By then my fiancé was done and turned to me and said "we are never coming here again because of the service we just received from her". Marie then came over to us later and said " I want to apologize. I didn't mean to offend you... ". Her tone did not sound sincere. and at one point my fiancé just said "thank you we're good... ". He didn't accept her apology he felt it was half ass and fake. we paid the bill and left after about an hour and a half there. We actually wanted to stay a little bit longer and we're planning on ordering dessert, but in no way where we going to give more money to that business. MARIE you need to do better. If you want to learn how to be a great manager and a server you need to go to Dukes in Bellevue and talk to Wendy, she is absolutely incredible and she knows the right way to take care of customers, so they will come back and patronize your establishment again! At this point, we have absolutely no future plans are returning to Bai Tong... Tons of other great Thai restaurants that we can givr our money to.

Yelp
The garlic chicken and pumpkin are tasty. The kids like garlic chicken. The pumpkin curry is seasonal and very delicious. The portion size is large and could easily divide a plate into 2-3 servings. The waiter was friendly and got seated quickly for a party of 6. There is plenty of parking available and is clothes for shopping and the movies. We will be coming back :)

B U.

Yelp
Slow service. Really verryy verry slow. And when asked they would always say that they have plenty of to go orders like why is that my problem when I am here in your table wanting to eat?? We never went back. They always justify their shortcomings. They dont own it. (I am not even asking for them to be apologetic). Their food also is now mediocre. Maybe they changed chef (we ordered salmon curry, crispy garlic chicken). Never went back. Waste of money and time.

Dharam M.

Yelp
Worst customer service. Food was ok too.manager is so rude. They even added extra charges which I had to look at the bill and ask them to remove it. this Bai tong is way different than Redmond one. Please drive to Redmond and eat there.

Chaitanya R.

Yelp
Rude and poor service, bug infested food, very unapologetic and rude manager. This branch of Bai Tong has just gone downhill. We ordered kids' food and a large bowl of soup. Soup came to the table, but no sharing bowls were provided. Took them 10 mins to get bowls, and we had to drink the soup cold. Placed main order with curry and other items. They bring hot rice first, forget about the curry, and then, on reminder, bring curry out 10mins later. We asked them to replace rice since, by this time, it had become cold. The server rudely tells us we could have eaten it with kids' order curry! WTH!! Fastforward, while eating, much to our horror, we find a bug in the food!!! See the picture. We call the manager, who calmly takes it to the kitchen, no sorry, no apologies whosoever! I should report this to health deparment I feel. The manager comes by and tell us that she is taking the item off the bill but then has the audacity to tell us that they will charge 20% gratuity since we were party of 6. In that party of six, we had a 5yo child sleeping all the way. While seating, we accepted a table that could seat only 5 because we knew our child would be sleeping all the way. So they gave us a table that accomodates 5, served no food or water to the child, and then, after serving bug infested food, ask us to pay 20% gratuity?!? No, thanks. This Bai Tong is off my list. Sad as this used to be a decent restaurant before.

Yelp
We visited Bai Tong Restaurant in the Issaquah Highlands for my colleague's birthday celebration and it was a solid meal. On a Tuesday at prime lunch hour, the place was popular. It was about a 20-minute wait for the four of us, so if you plan to visit during a popular time, be prepared to be patient. I've been to Bai Tong's other locations and have always had a pleasant time, with this Issaquah location now being one of them. The space isn't too large, especially compared to its other locations, which is why it can fill up quicker here. It's also next to many other businesses around the highlands, so parking is plenty and walking distance to other shops and restaurants. I ordered the khao soi, my favorite Thai dish, and it was solid. I ordered it with chicken and when asked how spicy I wanted it out of five stars, I chose four stars. But for someone who loves spicy foods, I will likely get five stars next time because I didn't think four stars was spicy enough. But overall, the dish was good and really enjoyed how thick the curry was. If you're looking for Thai food in the Issaquah Highlands then this is the place. The menu had a lot to choose from, with lunch specials that include a soup with your entrée, wine and beer for a more chill time, and friendly staff with speedy service.

Yelp
Food was incredible. Easy to eat here gluten free vegan cause everything is clearly marked in the menu. Got the red curry with tofu. Service was terrible. All the servers just stood around talking to each other and looking out the window instead of serving people. Waters never refilled. No one ever checked back in after the food was delivered till we were finished. The ambiance is nice. Decor is pretty.

Jaron C.

Yelp
Just had a fantastic meal here with my daughters. Every dish was delicious and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. The menu is good sized but not overwhelming. I didn't have a chance to try the drinks but the bar is well stocked and the cocktail menu looks fun. Will definitely be back soon.

Yelp
It's kind of embarrassing to call this Thai food. It was always American-Thai but now it's not even that. Everything is so so bland. We started off with a bunch of chicken satay and crab rangoons, both of which were just under seasoned and didn't taste of anything. We then got pad Thai and crispy garlic chicken. I'd asked for the latter to be maxed out spice 6+ and it came out less then what most restaurants would call a 1 . Again neither dish had any flavor whatsoever. If you enjoy Thai food, like the actual bold fresh herbaceous flavors, this this is not where you want to be. This is a place specifically designed for the vanilla American palate that wants to try a different style of food but play it super safe. Hard pass for me. P.s. The service was absolutely outstanding and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Emmie H.

Yelp
I love bai tong! High quality food for how fast it comes out. I had the mango Thai tea and a pad Thai with chicken. Service was quick and it was decently busy for lunch. While it's not the best food I've had, it's reliable and a good stop.

Sanjay M.

Yelp
Never taking family or guests here again. Probably worst service I have experienced. Disgusting! I would go to Redmond location or other good Thai restaurants in Issaquah.
google avatar

Meagan Z.

Yelp
So I'm a regular. I'll still go. But Tonight I had an experience that made me never want to go back. But I still will because I use gift guards that give me a deal. The person That was my server is a host And is not good at serving. After about five things going wrong , she completely Abandons me. How to get up and ask many people for what I needed. I recommend tutobella and wildfin over Bai Tong 100%. Wild/ Tutta give uba linen napkin. They would Never have anyone " serve" unless a server. It sucked. I need to make sure " she" is NEVER my server. U will have a much better " experience and Issaquah Tutta Bella and Wild Finn. After 3 yrs of going to all 3,...those 2 have never failed And u have a nice linen napkin and a guarantee of an amazing experience
google avatar

Varsh P.

Yelp
Even after reservations it took nearly 15 minutes wait on a weekday. Food was delicious but an item we wanted to try was not available. But taste of food is good always. Crab wontons are my favorite.
google avatar

Dan W.

Yelp
I'm not sure what happened. It used to be good. Now it's average on a good night. It tastes no different than any other Thai food which I suppose is good in terms of consistency. It's the service that's absolutely horrible. Whether you're at the bar or at a booth, prepare for the snails pace. The food comes fast enough but they either lack trained bartenders or just don't care. They are always behind.

T K.

Yelp
This restaurant is consistently good with the quality of food and friendly staff. I wish their portions were larger. I don't like paying for rice when I'm paying for entrees that are $20 plus. I love their wide rice noodle dishes. Always get a take out and don't like eating in due to long waiting time.

Anthony G.

Yelp
We just had an early dinner there, It will be the last time for us. The food was horrible crispy garlic chicken almost broke a crown on, pork belly vegetable was horrible. The beef in noodle dish was horrible. We walked out:-)
google avatar

Xuan Z.

Yelp
Had their Khao Soi. Just wanted to point out: they use chicken breast instead of chicken legs or drum stick. I personally prefer chicken legs. The "soup" was flavorful but it was too thick and dense. Fried noodles were no longer crispy.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Fairly disappointing experience. Came with a group of four and we were seated promptly. A server greeted us and took our drink order and then came back for food order. The crab wonton appetizer was out quickly and then the entrees we ordered to share seemed to take a bit longer, but no worries, it's a Friday night. Of the four entrees we ordered, I wasn't particularly impressed by any of it. The beef dish we ordered, the Pattaya Grill was cooked okay, but the meat was tough. Crab fried rice was pretty good albeit a bit fishy tasting. The pad sei-lew wasn't bad but the crispy chicken was just way overdone. Sadly our server never came back to check on us until we were nearly done, so we missed out on a chance to order another round of drinks. Overall, it was a miss for us.
google avatar

Suyash T.

Yelp
The food was good but the manager here, Marie, was rude. She scolded my kid for being a kid(yes he is a typical 4 year old) and got us mixed up for someone else and asked us to relinquish the table. We were 4 adults and a kid and we were visibly upset due to this. She literally walked over to our table and said, "you guys are done, we need this table". The server at our table was amazing and she did a very good job at handling everything. Kudos to her ! But Marie needs to learn a thing or two about restauranting !!
google avatar

Aanchal C.

Yelp
I have no major problem with the food/ambiance, but I've been here two times & it took me over an hour to get my food & I don't think it's worth that long of a wait. The food itself was filling, it's very safe if you're worried about spices & it was served warmly. Never had a problem with the actual servers, it's just maybe they need more staffing?

Sherana A.

Yelp
Great ambiance and the table with the tree is amazing. Happy hour is great and service is good.

Reviewer R.

Yelp
Yet another mediocre, overpriced restaurant. It's a shame it occupies prime real estate.

Smrithi S.

Yelp
We got dinner from here recently, called in the order and picked it up. We got Crispy Garlic Chicken, Khai Jeaw, Crab Fried Rice, Chicken Fried Rice and Pad Thai. We love the Crispy Garlic Chicken, always get and always enjoy it. Crab fried rice, chicken fried rice, and pad thai were all good. We tried Khai Jeaw for the first time, it was a little oily for my taste. On another visit, we got Spare ribs, along with Pad thai and Chicken fried rice. The spare ribs were good.

Yelp
Restaurant was very cold (in winter). We had to keep our jackets and hats on. Not so nice for eating. Since level much higher than we ordered. When it came back it was thin and watery. Service very slow with only a few people here. Not our favorite. Traditional Thai table was fun, decor is lovely.
google avatar

Lucas S.

Yelp
Really really unique and immersive interior the moment you walk in. The optional shoes off table experience was a highlight. The staff did talk very quietly and were a little hard to understand. The NY strip was very tender and Pad Thai, noodles, rice, etc tasted great

Yelp
Note that Bai Tong IS OPEN for takeout during COVID! My family and I ordered takeout for dinner from here this past week. We ordered the red seafood curry, beef Panang curry, and the crispy garlic chicken. We got everything with 2-star spice. If you love honey garlic chicken, you will also love Bai Tong's version of it. The chicken is perfectly deep-fried, tender, and smothered with a sweet and savory garlic basil sauce. Crispy garlic chicken is definitely the signature dish you MUST GET! The box was also filled to the max so there was more than enough for the four of us! Although the curries were both tasty, we were disappointed by the lack of volume of protein. The red seafood curry came with less than a cup of seafood (shrimp, oyster, squid) total and definitely not worth $15. The Panang curry had more vegetables and beef, but was still 3/4 full of just coconut curry broth. Given a choice between the two dishes, I preferred the creaminess and well rounded spice of the Panang curry over the red seafood curry. I'd come back for the garlic chicken any day, but I guess I'll be adding my own seafood to the leftover curry broth for lunch this week. Overall: 3/5 for food
google avatar

Wennie H.

Yelp
The food and service are good but I just can't get past how dirty it is inside. I'm sorry but we came in right when they opened and there was a bunch of food on the floor (carpeted room), we saw them sweeping the lobby area and the bits/pile was pretty significant. We sat by the window and the amount of dust and crumbs/food splotches on the wooden blinds and wooden structure (design) really ruined the dining experience. Food is good but will say that the garlic crispy chicken is often uneven (super breaded, where I'd get a bunch of just breading or not enough breading that the chicken is just super dry, etc.). Like I said, food and service though overall are good...just cleanliness is lacking.
google avatar

JiHyun K.

Yelp
I am not really sure about this place. The food is generally good and the service is OK, I guess. But the side rice we ordered in addition to a main dish costed like $5. And the rice was so hard and sticky--almost like a rice cake. I couldn't believe it. I don't think I will come here again.

Yelp
Great food, awesome staff!! One of our favorite places!! Be sure and try the Paad Ka Prow - super delish...
