"Basil Thai, a restaurant inside the 900 North Michigan Avenue shops, has closed. They’re not answering their phones and online ordering has been shut down. They first opened in 2005. An Oak Brook location closed in 2015 in the suburbs." - Daniel Gerzina

Excellent food, delicious pad thai. And such a warm customer service. I came in late last night starving just before they closed and they were really welcoming and accommodating.

Our appetizer was fresh spring rolls. They were a wreck, and a ripoff. Someone couldn't even bother to roll the ingredients enough so they stayed inside? Every place we have ever gone gives you double what we were served. Maybe they ran out... The food didn't taste at all like Thai food. We always get the same dish when trying a new place- Beef Lard Nar and Pad Khee Mao (Thai Drunken Noodles) with Chicken. Both are noodle dishes and the texture of the noodles is critical. Both were mushy and im not sure they were even rice noodles. The seasoning was totally off and not even vaguely tasting like Thai. Will not go back. Also, we have no idea what we paid for what. See the photos of our check.

First time eating here. They used to have a TM Basil in oakbrook mall and I miss it! Not sure if it’s the same owners or different but this place is good. The pot stickers were meh.. they need to add some vinegar with the soy sauce to give it some more flavor but the rest of the food was good.

Hello, I always enjoy sharing my experience with local businesses. This was my second time eating with one of two restaurants Rogelio and family own. My 1st was with El Ranchito catered in to my friend Alex's birthday party. One of the best authentic Mexican meals I have had and catered to his house!!! Nice touch Rogelio! Service and love from a great family! another 5 stars:)) Okay, so last night I met Alex and his family at the Baisi Thai restaurant on 63rd st, just west of Cass on the south side of the st. Upon arriving we met Rogelio, Chef Jesus and Chris who was taking care of our party. These 3 gave us the best of the best when it comes to making sure you go home happy and full:) Outstanding food selection and Chef Jesus runs an amazing kitchen! Chris was always available and made sure we were well taken care of. Rogelio, his wife and family made this night extra special for Alex's son's birthday. I was thankful for all there kindness and loving care to detail when it comes to food. Thank you for reading and order your favorites any time:))) Matt

Wanted Drunken Noodles. They didn't have the name for that dish. Had choices the same way Drunken Noodles are prepared, and I asked what one was close? The waiter steered me to the samething and asked if i wanted the wide noodles? To my amazement, they actually had wide noodles. Other places claim wide noodels, and they are not. Excellent wide noodels! The dish was delicious! Ordered #38 medium hot with chicken!

It is a nice place, kinda private - I like it! I was in a lunch date with my wife and we had the whole place for ourselves. Sunday around 3pm is clear. 😉 The food is great and we had a great service as well ✅. Our order was taken immediately, the appetizer came out fast and our meals didn't take long. We will come back many times for sure‼😁👍

Google
The appetizer rolls were not put together well (fell apart easily), and meal was rather tasteless. I was fairly hungry, though, so I ate the Pad Lard Nar. Maybe some of their other dishes are better.

I moved out of the area about 2 years ago. Back then I was an avid visitor. I was very disappointed after driving out of my way to return. I ordered the pepper steak spicy and a cucumber salad. After a while the young guy who took my order came back up front and asked “you wanted no tomatoes right?” I said, I do and I just asked for it spicy. Not even two minutes later he surfaces with my bag to go. I see a cup of chili sauce so that tells me the spicy didn’t happen until I reminded him. No biggie. I get home to find no tomatoes either. This was no longer a mistake now. This was blatant laziness. Why ask me? To make it worse I find a sticker from the peppers in my food and the steak was completely dry and chewy. The cucumber salad was basically just diced cucumbers with no taste. My boyfriend ended up putting ranch on them. I won’t be returning after the intentional laziness. Must be the same crew messing up the egg rolls in the other reviews! Fire him.

Yelp
We tried this place today and everything was delicious . The owner is so kind and the service was great. I really recommend this restaurant. Just 10/10

Yelp
This is a nice-looking small place in a strip mall. There are vegetarian options, as there are in most Thai restaurants. The staff checked to make sure eggs were OK and pointed out that the egg rolls contain chicken. We got the spring roll, pad kee mao and the pad thai, a Thai iced coffee (they brought tea, oops) and a Squirt soda. Service was friendly and fairly quick. The spring roll, as others have noted, was falling apart. It appeared to be fried tofu, bean sprouts and maybe some bok choy, so it was mostly a textural experience. We weren't crazy about the sweet brown sauce it was drizzled with. The pad kee mao was noted as "spicy" but it wasn't. It had a nice variety of vegetables, though I could see but not really taste the basil and the broccoli was a bit undercooked. It was fine, but not very flavorful. The pad thai was basically noodles and fried tofu with the usual accoutrements (peanuts; lime; bean sprouts); not sure if they forgot to add the egg after we said it was OK. Overall, fine if you're local but not worth a special trip, at least not for the noodle dishes. $45 including tip.

Yelp
Kao soy yellow chicken curry is the go-to dish. Very tasty. Beef basil dried rice, pad See ew also solid.

Yelp
For sure this pretty small Thai restaurant in Westmont was better than expected. It looked like it was going to be some cheap counter order place, judging by the strip mall location. Baisi Thai is actually a pretty nice looking one, even though it's clearly run on the cheap. Maybe the food isn't as nice as the pictures, and maybe the portions aren't as big as they let on. The food still tasted better than we thought it would be though. Came at lunch. It was quiet and there was no one else eating inside, which could have been a bad sign. This was also on the weekend. Maybe it's just because of the location. This is on 63rd a ways from the shopping center with Mariano's and stuff. Boring looking area. It's about $11 for an entree. Good prices, cheaper than at many other Thai restaurants apparently. I got the Pad Kee Mao. This is flat rice noodles with basil, garlic, and mixed vegetables. Choose a protein. I got tofu. Good spice but it was a pretty small portion. She got the Pad Thai. Again, small portion. That's why it was so cheap it seems. Better than expected as far as flavor, as it can get pretty hot. It's overall good with the only bad thing about it is they skimp on the portions. There's plenty of choices for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
This Thai restaurant definitely has all other Thai and even Chinese restaurants beat, hands down!! From the very flavorful Basil rice to the Garlic chicken, the flavors do a happy dance in your mouth ‍!! Best Thai EVER!!

Nathan H.

Yelp
I rarely leave reviews unless something is absolutely amazing, but never leave bad reviews. This "Thai" food is a special case though. I don't know if this restaurant is under new management or something, but it's not the same. We ordered crab Rangoon, 2 green curry (one veg, one chicken), pad see ew, and pad Thai. The green curry was sweet. Yes...sweet. It shouldn't be. And I'm not sure how this is possible, but the broth was thinner than water. No Thai flavoring whatsoever though. The crab Rangoon was bitter and tasted a bit like fried matter. No flavor outside of the bitterness. The two noodle dishes were missing every single flavor that we've come to love about Thai food, i.e. fish sauce, peanuts, etc. They didn't have any of those flavors. Think noodles, carrots soy sauce and nothing else. That's what it tasted like. I hate to even leave this review because the Hispanic men and women working there on this particular Thursday evening were so kind. The food was just plain awful though. and I don't want anyone else to waste $60 on their own 40th birthday dinner...

Yelp
I've been on the search for a go-to local Thai place, and let me tell you this will not be it. While deciding what to order we looked at the menu online, which to my surprise had pictures of everything. However, these are stock images and do not at all look like the actual food, which was very misleading and disappointing. We ordered the spicy seafood noodles based on the picture which showed a dry noodle in a bright red chili sauce, and what we got was a beige colored soup that had no spice and lacked flavor (3/5). We also got the fresh spring rolls as the picture showed noddles and veggies wrapped in translucent rice paper. We got a small portion thin open ended rolls with basically just bean sprouts covered in a sauce that tasted funky in a bad way (1/5). Chicken pad see lew was good but not great and the chicken was a little dry (3.5/5). Beef pad kee mao was my favorite of everything we tried. It had good flavor and the beef was good but it had almost no spice and was on the sweater side despite supposedly being a spicy dish (4/5). Except for the spring rolls, the serving size was very large.

Yelp
I recently moved to the suburbs and have been struggling to find "my" Thai place. Enter Baisi Thai! I'm not asking for much out of a Thai place: consistency and a few good options that I can bounce between depending on my mood. My go to is usually pad Thai, but when I saw the Kao Soy on their menu, I jumped at the chance! It is out of this world! I feel like some Thai spots just get it, and baisi thai is on point! I usually place my order for pickup but I have eaten inside their restaurant twice. The staff is fairly young and eager to help. On one particular day, a few of the staff and I were discussing the winter weather advisory and how their schools were closed tomorrow for a snow day:) It was nice to banter while waiting for my pickup. Look no further- this is the best Thai place I've found in the western suburbs. By a long shot!

Yelp
I had the combination appetizer plate. I was surprised that all four appetizers were covered in thick, tough crust--not crispy fried wonton or softer dough (fried usually for the pot stickers). It came with 3 sauces. This combo plate was very filling, but not very good. I have had better food at other Thai restaurants in past years. Ambience was very basic. I don't know whether the restaurant is the same as the one which closed in Oak Brook Mall. The cooking and decor are different. This restaurant was close to home, and I prefer to support local mom & pop restaurants. The service consisted of one very young man running from one table to another by himself on a Saturday night. He could have cut his steps in half had he batched his trips and offered more efficient service. The restaurant needs to wash the plastic-coated menus. They were very sticky. I hope they succeed, but they need to improve cleanliness and cooking.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I don't leave reviews unless there's a reason! We were visiting the area, and the only reason I picked Bansai Thai is because the top rated Thai restaurants in the area are closed on Wednesdays. We love Thai so this is not our first rodeo!! We did take out and ordered the Combo Appetizer, Cold Spring Rolls, Basil Beef, and Chicken Pad Thai, and if your order is over $25, they throw in a free egg drop soup. Totally NOT impressed! Don't do it!! The bill was $43+, and there was NO free soup! The Combo Appetizer was SO greasy I had to squeeze the entire anppetizer in paper towels, and they were still soaked with grease! And the potstickers are not like any potstickers I've ever had! Very thick bread that was not cooked all the way through, not like the typical noodle potstickers we've always gotten. And who serves egg roles without hot mustard? They applied the sauce on the Cold Spring Rolls so by the time we ate it, the rolls had completely fallen apart! So far we've thrown away most of the appetizers, and are scared to even try the meals! I'm SO sorry for the bad review, but I don't want anyone else paying & expecting good Thai food and being disappointed!

Don M.

Yelp
I really wasn't that impressed with the Tom Yum soup there wasn't a lot of flavor as in the triditional Tom Yum soup, the egg rolls were very good, the deep fried pot stickers were a little bit heavy, the beef dish I had was ok, I think if you live near by you would go there, I don't think I would travel to go there.

Sharmila V.

Yelp
We went on labor day weekend. No guests were at the restaurant inspite of that it took the staff almost 45 minutes to prepare our food for 3. the fresh wrap was not even wrapped properly and was falling apart. The food did not taste good also and we left all the food and came home and had cereal for dinner. They dont much of vegan options. The server did not even serve us water till we asked for it 45 minutes later. He was no where to be seen to even request for water.

Bonnie R.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it was delicious. Clean, friendly and nice. Thai egg rolls were crispy and fresh. Wonton soup was filled with veggies eggs and wonton, broth has a nice pepper flavor. We had the spicy basil chicken and it did not disappoint. So flavorful.

Susan K.

Yelp
This place has potential but the food was so greasy. We ordered crab Rangoon's and Thai egg rolls. The oil was pooling on the plate they served it to us on. I wish they would have drained it better. The pad Thai was ok but could have been much better if served mixed together.

Austin J.

Yelp
I had the best Thai Curry w/ Tofu that I've ever had in my life here! I'd say I'm pretty well-travelled, plus I had Thai Curry w/ Tofu the night before from somewhere else. The flavor, texture, spice level, amount of food, and overall first experience was exceptional. The place is new, so do yourself check them out NOW! I'm writing this review while I'm sitting down, trying out their Garlic Tofu. Excellent choice! With these two dishes, I'd say the cook has a good taste for flavor. I also have had their Fried Tofu appetizer. As a vegan, I always request fried rice w/ no egg and they're able to do that for me. If you're vegan, they can change any dish to accommodate your dietary needs. Try them out NOW!

Yelp
Excelente servicio los meseros muy atentos la comida muy rica los recomiendo todo e Selene

Yelp
Ordered today for pick up thinking I was calling TM Basil in Oak Brook. We just dove right into Pad Thai which tasted great but my little one found this metal piece in her mouth. I'm just thankful she didn't swallow it but was able to fish it out. Haven't tried the green curry yet- kinda lost my appetite for now. If they had a website or email address, I would have alerted them. Sorry Baisi Thai, that I have to use this app to alert you guys.

Judy P.

Yelp
They have the best Kai Soi in the suburbs. You can order it mild or spicy. It comes on noodles and has crispy noodles to place on top.

Privat S.

Yelp
I tried the pad Thai & it was quite tasty! I ordered it with chicken and medium spicy and it was a perfect level of spice, for those who enjoy a bit of fire but still want to taste what they are eating. The prices are good and you get your money's worth. The place is clean and very simple. No real atmosphere except a friendly and helpful waiter. Maybe that's to come! I will definitely return to try some of their other dishes.

janie c.

Yelp
Loved the old Baisi Thai and tried this new location. Glad we did. Food as nice as we remembered. Service was outstanding. Great prices for dinner. No complaints at all. I knock it down one star because of ambiance. While the restaurant is very clean, it is no frills which we are ok with, but just want to share because we weren't expecting it. It's not a problem for us and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend for excellent Thai food.

Dania A.

Yelp
Vegetable Egg rolls-5 stars Basil fried rice-4 stars it needed spice and it would have been great Garlic checked-5 stars Cashew chicken- 4 stars it need more flavors and more spicy Pad Thai- 0 stars it was just not it. It lacked everything. It was a disaster not really edible

Uma I.

Yelp
The worst Thai food that we have ever had. We ordered Pad Thai and Basil fried rice. Pad Thai was nothing but shredded carrot. Basil fried rice had no flavor, just rice and some veggies. We will not order from here again.

Caitlyn S.

Yelp
I just wanted to say that this restaurant has finally brought me joy since my husband left me 4 1/2 years ago. The wonton soup was prepared delightfully and is absolutely perfect. The customer service.......10/10, especially that young boy with black hair that works in the front on Friday, such a polite, well raised kid.

Brian S.

Yelp
AVOID!!!! They claim to be associated with the former OakBrook location but the food is not at all the same. The Pad Thai does have the plastic taste everyone is claiming. Also, my beef dish contained two different cuts of meat which was very chewy, leading me to believe that they were some kind of leftover beef cuts! Here's the kicker...I used a CC to pay for the carryout, since cash is frowned upon during Covid. Without any signage, notice or verbal warning they charged me a $1.50 "non-cash adj" that I didn't notice until I looked at the receipt at home!!! Talk about leaving a bad taste in your mouth....once for the food and 2x for the shady fee adjustment!!!!! OMG, never again!

Kelly M.

Yelp
I would say this is pretty much your average Thai restaurant. My husband and I each got a different type of pad thai and we thought it was pretty good but not as good as it used to be when it was the original baisi thai in Oakbrook Mall. We also got appetizers the crab rangoon and chicken satay they were average as well. We dont live close by so not really worth the trip out to westmont.

Gerardo C.

Yelp
Omg!! Amazing food!! You must try, The service is amazing and very kind and friendly! The garlic shrimp is amazing!

A J.

Yelp
Not good food. I ordered the Pad See-Lew. Terrible. It had a weird aroma that smelled like plastic. The taste was bland and texture unappealing. Would not recommend this place. Go to Thai Cafe (Downers Grove) or Cida Thai (Countryside) instead.

Jan D.

Yelp
I have been to many Thai places and I really do enjoy this one. Chris the manager who runs it is friendly funny and courteous. The food is fabulous and an extra bonus it's close to my home!

Abe R.

Yelp
Waited until after my 5th order before I posted. Meals always good and nice flavor. Fair portions, good timing. Always well done with no issues. Very happy

David D.

Yelp
Amazing food, great portions. I'm not a tofu eater by nature or inclination, and I've avoided it for decades. On a whim, I got pad thai with tofu here and was blown away. They completely changed my opinion and won me over. Great food, will be back again!

Daisy P.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place, I don't even mind the 35 min drive from my house to come here.. I Love the pad Thai best one I had

Kathi B.

Yelp
Big disappointment. I love Thai food and chicken phad Thai in particular. This phad Thai had a strange, kind of "plastic" taste. We ordered takeout and live 25 min away so it wasn't convenient to return the food. We also ordered the potstickers, which were flavorless and rubbery. The chicken satay was good. Dishes are pricey...$11 for phad Thai. Go somewhere else. I have yet to find really good Thai food in this area.

Marvin J.

Yelp
I've been here thrice now and everything has been great. I even called 5 minutes before close with a large order and they happily accommodated me.

Julia M.

Yelp
Great food! The restaurant is tucked away - and well worth finding. They were very accommodating with my dietary restrictions; I had curry w/tofu and it was perfectly spiced. I will be returning :)

Shabana K.

Yelp
So happy to see that my favorite Thai restaurant is back and the food is still as good as I remember it!! Incredible service too, we had the nicest waiter!! Some suggestions: basil fried rice, incredible. Kao Nar Gai, Thai pepper steak, any curry. Just all the food is great here, go now!!!

Goose C.

Yelp
We love Thai food. We get the Paenang Curry every time and it is phenomenal!!! Great service, phenomenal food, and the price is right on par! Thank you times a million!

Margaret C.

Yelp
I love the food. The service is also great. It is my go to Thai restaurant. The food is always fresh and exactly as ordered. The owner is a delight and ask him about his story which is endearing. I always support new, small businesses and hope this one remains successful.

Goldie J.

Yelp
First time patron of Baisi Thai. My first impression was how skillfully the chef blended all the delightful flavors perfectly. Delicious food and wonderful service. I was having a little trouble with the double spicy soup (not used to spicy food), the chef noticed and sent out a different soup not as spicy. Yummy yummy in the tummy! I am looking forward to returning to try different dishes.
